Joe Thurman Martin
Joe Thurman Martin, 86, of Booneville passed away Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, in Booneville. He was born March 11, 1917, in Logan County to Jesse and Ida Martin. He is preceded in death by two sons, Joe Thurman Martin Jr. and Gary Lynn Martin; four sisters, Daisy Killion, Hazel Carpenter, Oleta Glass and Dorothy Martin; one brother, Velda Lee Martin. He was retired from Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., and was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Charleston, a farmer and a member of the Coon Hunters Club.
Funeral was held Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at Roberts Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Booneville with burial at Oak Hill Memorial cemetery in Booneville.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Martin of the home; a sister, Helen Herd of Missouri; one sister-in-law, Gay Williams of Lavaca; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Steve Holmberg, Eddie Carpenter, Wayne Glass, Brian Womack, Harold Cantrell and Herman Adair.

Madge Louise Warner Hale
Madge Louise Warner Hale, 96, of Fort Smith passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in Fort Smith. Madge was the widow of Earl C. Hale. She was born May 27, 1907, in Midland, Sebastian County and was the only child of Walter and Mable Warner. She attended the University of New Mexico and the University of Missouri, where she was a member of Chi Omega. She completed school at the University of Arkansas.
Madge married Earl Hale of Krebs, Okla., on Dec. 9, 1941, in Fort Smith where they made their home. She worked in the communications department at Fort Chaffee for many years. She was a member of Goddard United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Gradon Hale of McAlester, Okla.; one nephew-in-law, Melvin Clyde Sittel of Amarillo, Texas; two nieces-in-law, Gail Ratcliff Scott of Amarillo, Texas, and Jane Karen Hale Talbot of McAlester, Okla.
Graveside service was held Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at Forest Park cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Memorial contributions may be made to Goddard United Methodist Church, 1922 Dodson Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72901 or Peachtree Hospice, 4300 Rogers Ave., Suite 33, Fort Smith, AR 72903.

Charles Pigg
Charles Pigg, 75, of Van Buren died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003. He was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Post No. 31, was past grand knight of Knights of Columbus, a charter member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, a retired Navy veteran and was retired from the Department of Human Services in Van Buren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Marie Hoffman Pigg.
Mass will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith with military honors under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by two daughters, Marie Verspille of Van Buren and Sandra Wise of Fort Smith; a son, Charles Pigg of Las Vegas; three grandchildren, Jennifer Wise, Kelly Wise and Charles Verspille; and one great-grandchild, Abigail Bufkin.
Pallbearers will be the St. Michael’s Knights of Columbus.

Harryette Barker
Harryette Barker, 87, of Mountainburg died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003 at a local nursing home. Harryette, (W6QGX), was a ham radio operator since 1941. She had her private pilot’s license and flew in the Powderpuff Derby, a women’s transcontinental air race in 1965. She is a retired senior electronics design draftsman.
No formal services are scheduled. The body was cremated under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Baron, (W6QGP), also a ham radio operator; three daughters, Susan Nordskog of Oslo, Norway, Linda Glover of San Bernardino, Calif., and Nancy Barker of Reno, Nev.; and five grandchildren, Kevin Glover, Alissa Hughes, Sunniva, Idun, and Mathias Nordskog.

Ray E. Wieburg
Ray E. Wieburg, 89, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith, was an ordained deacon at First Baptist Church, a member of Gideons and retired from Ayers Furniture as assistant superintendent. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elma; one sister, Bernice Thronburg; and two brothers, Floyd and Kenneth Wieburg.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by one daughter, Shirley Burkett of Van Buren; one sister, Florine Herren of Midland, Texas; and also several nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Fentress Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to Freedom cemetery, 809 Skyline Drive, Van Buren, AR 72956.

Lillian Allen
Lillian Leona Allen, 82, of Van Buren died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in Van Buren. She was a member of Northside United Pentecostal Church and the widow of Thomas Allen.
Funeral was held Tuesday at Northside United Pentecostal Church with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Crissy Benton of Fort Smith and Lexie Griffin of Longview, Texas; a sister, Velva Parks of Newport News, Va.; 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Elton Benton, James Wagley, Aaron and David Thomas, Gary Henry and Jim Lumpkin.

Grace Neff
Grace Neff, 99, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in Van Buren. She was born Oct. 11, 1904, in Huntington. She was a retired owner of Grace’s Flower Shop, a member of the Lutheran Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and Amrita Caldron. She was the widow of Harold Neff.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Hughes of Fort Smith; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Minnie Metcalf
CHARLESTON — Minnie Metcalf, 96, of Charleston died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in Booneville. She was born July 21, 1907, in Charleston. She was a member of Branch Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Potts cemetery south of Charleston.
She is survived by three daughters, Maxine Terry and Wayland Beard, both of Charleston, and Patsy Lairamore of Pocola; a son, Ronald Metcalf of Fort Smith; two brothers, Walt Hawkins of Booneville and Lealon Hawkins of Charleston; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Johnny Moore
SALLISAW — Johnny A. Moore, 43, of Sallisaw died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was born July 7, 1960, in Elkhart, Ind. He was of the Full Gospel faith.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Buffington cemetery in Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy; two brothers, Steve Moore of Tennessee and Jim Moore.

Steve Netherlain
KEOTA — Steve Netherlain, 50, of Keota died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, in Stigler. He was a retired fire fighter for the Keota Fire Department for 21 years.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Iron Bridge cemetery in Keota under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by his wife, Penny; two daughters, Shana Netherlain of Fort Smith and Shelby Netherlain of Norman, Okla.; two sisters, Dortha Self of Keota and Emma Curtis of Splendora, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Bob and Danny Womack, Bob Womack Jr., Tracy Jordan, Rick Nelson, Dennis Winklepleck, Clarence Bruner Jr. and James Young.

Cletus Burks
Cletus May Burks, 85, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker, a Presbyterian and the widow of Alonzo Burks.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.
She is survived by five daughters, Ara Cromwell and Annette Kagen, both of Fort Smith, Terri Biggs of Siloam Springs, Mitzi Van Orsdol of Okemah, Okla., and Jeanette Cotton of Van Buren; two sisters, Jewel Lawton of Coweta, Okla., and Clemmie Buckner of Stillwell, Okla.; 10 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Tommy Garner
Tommy Matlock Garner, 65, of Fort Smith died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, in a local nursing home. He was born April 17, 1938, in Texarkana, Texas. He was a Navy veteran.
The body was cremated under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.

Linda Moore
Linda Mae Moore, 58, of Van Buren died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was born May 8, 1945, in St. Louis. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Gill cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two sons, Scott Moore of Van Buren and Monte Moore of Fort Smith; six sisters, Joan Haven of Desoto, Mo., Pauline McCarson of Prairie DyRocher, Ill., Lillie Huffstutler of Paragould, Kathy Reed of Bonneterre, Mo., Henrietta Sharp of Granite City, Ill., and Marcella Sharp of Marrisa, Ill.; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mark McGuire, Richard Cowell, Pete Syrock II, John Woodward, Charles Suter Jr. and Mark Creel.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Dan Trantham
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Dan E. Trantham, 68, of Springfield died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in his home. He was born July 15, 1935, in Fort Smith. He worked for Ford Motor Credit Co. for 17 years. He owned and operated a live bait and tackle store in Springfield with his wife Ginger for more than 25 years. He was the widower of Virginia Trantham.
Mass will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Agnes Cathedral with burial at Resurrection cemetery under the direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home of Springfield, Mo.
He is survived by two daughters, Dayna Jones of Fairhope, Ala., and Elizabeth Toth of Springfield, Mo.; a son, Timothy Trantham of Mackinaw, Ill.; two sisters, Patsy Patton of Springfield, Mo., and Barbara Pendleton of Tulsa; and two grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with a rosary service to follow at 7 p.m.

Lannie Jackson
NEW BLAINE — Lannie L. Jackson, 64, of New Blaine died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, in New Blaine. He was a retired concrete worker that was self-employed, a Baptist and an Army veteran.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Paint Rock cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by a companion, Ruby Hawks of New Blaine; a daughter, Terry Jackson of Scranton; a sister, Betty Carson of Blue Eye, Mo.; and one grandchild.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Carl Kannady
PAGE — Carl Edward Kannady, 82, of Page died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was retired from the Forest Service, a veteran of World War II and a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Page cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita; a daughter, Suzy McKinney of Whitewood, Va.; three sons, Mark Kannady of Poteau, John Kannady of Page and Bob Kannady of Broken Bow, Okla.; two sisters, Louise Hill of Bakersfield, Calif., and Alma Hickman of Page; and five grandchildren.
