Doug “Bubba” Smith III
Doug “Bubba” Smith III, 39, of Fort Smith passed away Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was in real estate and nursing home development for First Health.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Christ the King Catholic Church under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie of the home; a stepdaughter, Cassie Coleman of Fort Smith; his mother, Lynn and her husband, Steve Creekmore Jr. of Fort Smith; his father, Doug and his wife, Connie Smith of Fort Smith; two sisters, Sara Fant of Atlanta and Catherine Merritt of Ponta Vedra, Fla.; a stepsister, Carolyn Creekmore of Dallas; a stepbrother, Steve Creekmore III of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Christian Jr., Greg Wilson, David Curry, Bennie Spears, John Speed, H.B. Fink, Marvin Vann and Bill Hogan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Holland, Rick Griffin, Bucky Roebuck, Greg Spurlock and Stuart Thompson.
Family will visit with friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home.

Rev. Cecil McCannon
The Rev. Cecil Lee McCannon, 78, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Henderson, Texas. He served in the Army for eight years, the Air Force for 12 years. He was stationed at Camp Chaffee and in Germany, France, England and Alaska, where he was appointed chaplain. He served as assistant pastor at Dickerson, Texas Assembly of God, assistant pastor at North Houston Assembly of God, associate at the Miracle House of Prayer Church in Arcola, Texas, served as an evangelist and was affiliated with the Independent Assemblies of Lexington, Okla.
Funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy; a daughter, Carolyn Cantrell of Dallas; a son, Vernon McCannon of the home; three brothers, Willis McCannon of Kilgore, Texas, Russell McCannon of Santa Fe, Texas, and the Rev. Billy McCannon of Midwest City, Okla.; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mike Morrell, Albro Rodriquez, Larry Ethridge, Gary Cantrell, Manuel Jimenez and Brian Shepard.
Nellie Fillyaw
Nellie M. Fillyaw, 80, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, in Van Buren. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Paul Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, a former youth director and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was the widow of Thomas Fillyaw.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Michelle Miller and Tamara Bailey, both of Fort Smith; a son, Drew Fillyaw of Van Buren; and seven grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Joy Group and the Builders Sunday school class of St. Paul Methodist Church.

Kenneth Jones
WALDRON — Kenneth Richard Jones, 79, of Waldron died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, in Waldron. He was a retired water department supervisor, a lifetime member of Waldron Masonic Lodge, past patron of Mount Fern Chapter No. 62 of Georgetown, Calif., a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner of Ben Ali Temple of Sacramento, Calif., and a member of Waldron Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Patsy Estey and Teresa Jones, both of Las Vegas; four sisters, Joyce Green of Fayetteville, Barbara Ronny of Berea, Ky., Sherry Spencer and Brenda Blanton, both of Waldron; two brothers, Jo Keith of Sacramento and David Jones of Boles; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mary Miller
BARLING — Mary Ann Miller, 63, of Barling died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was a member of Ashland Avenue Presbyterian Church in Saint Joseph, Mo. She was part of The Sweet Adelines singing group and graduated from the University of Missouri at Maryville.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.
She is survived by her sister, Lois Elledge of Barling.
Pallbearers will be George Barham, L.C. Goodman, James Dempsey, Raymond Gasper and Frank Booth.

Alice Tabor
KEOTA — Alice Tabor, 85, of Keota died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, in Stigler. She was a member of Lone Elm Free Will Baptist Church and the widow of Lynn Tabor.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lone Elm Free Will Baptist Church with burial at Keota City cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Stigler.
She is survived by a son, Jim Tabor of Choctaw, Okla.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Leo Bass
POTEAU — Leo Bass, 84, of Poteau died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, in Poteau. He was born Feb. 28, 1919, in Ripley, W.Va. He was retired from the Army and worked for Texaco for 18 years.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Vaughn cemetery in Gilmore, Okla., under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; a daughter, Joyce Davis of Poteau; three sons, Gary Bass and Roy Perkins, both of Poteau, and Larry Bass of Shady Point; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Fred Woodruff Jr.
Fred C. “Bubba” Woodruff Jr., 53, of Van Buren, formerly of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, in Van Buren. He was born June 25, 1950, in Pine Bluff. He was a 1968 graduate of Pine Bluff High School, a 1972 graduate of University of Arkansas Medical Sciences School of Pharmacy, was a pharmacist in Pine Bluff at Murray-Hart Drugs from 1972 until moving to the pharmacy staff at St. Edward Medical Center in Fort Smith after 21 years of service and a member of the American Pharmaceutical Association.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Ralph Robinson & Son Chapel in Pine Bluff with burial at Graceland cemetery.
He is survived by his mother, Theola Woodruff; a sister, Jerry Weaver of Pine Bluff; a brother, M.T. Woodruff of Pine Bluff.
The family will be at the home of Harvey and Jerry Weaver at 1902 W. 42nd Ave. in Pine Bluff.

Bernice Dean
Bernice Dean, 85, of Van Buren died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, in her home. She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Fort Smith, a retired license practical nurse at Sparks Regional Medical Center and the widow of S.D. Dean.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Weedman of Little Rock and Brenda Paxton of Barling; two sons, James Ramey of Royal and Dr. Michael Minten Sr. of Columbia, Mo.; two sisters, Nola Cress of Oklahoma City and Norma Gabbard of Fayetteville; two brothers, Harold Skelton of Springfield, Mo. and James Skelton of Siloam Springs; 12 grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bob, Laudell and Bill Roberts, Orvil Gill, Gary Smith and Don Maxwell.

SPIRO — Roy Stroud, 66, of Spiro died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, in Spiro. He was an Air Force, Marine and an Army veteran and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Keota cemetery in Keota under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred; two stepdaughters, Brenda Dawson of Eufaula, Okla., and Bonnie West of Spiro; two stepson, Jimmy Culbreath of Keota and Jerry Culbreath of Benton Harbor, Mich.; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

James Oglesby
HATFIELD — James Harold Oglesby, 78, of Hatfield died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, in his home. He was born July 7, 1925, in Haworth, Okla. He served in the Army during World War II serving under General George Patton in the campaigns of the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of the Rhine River, was founding member of Hatfield Assembly of God and a board member of Mena-Polk county Senior Center.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Hatfield Assembly of God with burial at Pleasant Hill cemetery in Hatfield under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores; a daughter, Karen Jester of Springfield, Mo.; three sons, Mike and Randy Oglesby, both of Mena, and Steve Oglesby of Hatfield; two sisters, Nell Vaughan of Idabel, Okla. and Norman Franklin of Hot Springs Village; a brother, Harless Oglesby of Texarkana; and 10 grandchildren.

James Stewart
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — James T. Stewart, 55, of Albuquerque, N.M., died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, in Albuquerque. He was a graduate of Poteau High School in 1967 and a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a degree in agriculture education in 1975. He served in the Army from 1968 to 1971, a Vietname War veteran, was employed by the federal government for several years, the Farmers Home Administration and Small Business Administration, most recently with SBA office of Government Contracting in Albuquerque.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Poteau with burial at Oakland cemetery .
He is survived by a daughter, Brooke Shearer of Oklahoma City; a stepson, Chad Webb of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Betty Stewart of Orange Park, Fla., Polly Dudley of Lexington, Ky., and Lana Swad of Edmond; two brothers, Robert Stewart of Poteau and Ron Stewart of Pryor, Okla.; and his former wife, Charlotte Stewart of Oklahoma City.

Terry Frasher
MIDLAND — Terry Frasher, 51, of Midland died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, in Muskogee, Okla. He was a Army veteran and a member of Midland First Baptist Church.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Mount Olive cemetery in Midland under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Earl and Barbara Frasher of Midland; three brothers, Steve and Phillip Frasher, both of Midland, and Jody Frasher of Hartford.
Pallbearers will be Joe Cepeda, Guy Shea, Steve Turnipseed, Dana Williams, Dennis Buccela and Mitchell Kimbrell.

STIGLER — Damon Cooper, 80, of Stigler died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, in Talihina. He was a member of the Church of Christ faith.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Old Cache cemetery in Keota under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by three daughters, Saundra Sander of Murphy, Texas, Ruth Cravens of Tulsa and Sherrye Soliday of Oklahoma; three sons, Bill Nelson of Tulsa, Richard Soiday of Kansas and Ted Soliday of Sapulpa, Okla.; two sisters, Christine Goins and Wilma Admire, both of Tulsa; two brothers, Lewis Cooper of Fort Smith and Doyle McCann of Tulsa; and five grandchildren.
Wilma Stewart Jones
Wilma Stewart Jones, 94, of Fort Smith died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was retired from Hancock Fabric and the Fort Smith School Lunch Program, and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Jones, one son, Carl Damon Jones, four brothers, three sisters, and many friends.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Liberty cemetery.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Bernice Stewart of Fort Smith and Marie Templeton-Adams of Statesboro, Ga.; four grandchildren, Stewart Jones and his wife, Mardana of Tulsa, Steve Jones of Port Aransas, Texas, Jeff Jones and his wife, Cathy of Jenny Lind, and Gwendolyn Crangle and her husband, Larry of Bismark; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Elza Wayne Pitts
Elza Wayne Pitts was born at Jay, Okla. on Oct. 4, 1924, to L.E. and Esta Lorraine Bennett Pitts. He went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and his brother, Bill Pitts. He was a retired oil field worker. He lived most of his life in Jay, Okla. caring for his elderly parents and has resided in Roland for the past two years.
Graveside service was held Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003 at Zena cemetery in Zena, Okla., under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Carter of Muldrow and Connie Jackson and her husband, Robert of Muskogee, Okla.; four grandchildren, Roy Duren of Fort Smith, Miranda Powers and her husband, Mike of Muldrow, Angela Stephens and her husband, Wayne of Muldrow, and Meghan Jackson of Muskogee, Okla.; seven great-grandchildren, Briana Rheanne, Christian Blake and Michael Paul Powers, all of Muldrow, Dakota Marshall Wayne Jones, Hunter Jacob James Hope, Dillyn Wayne and Tymber Marie Shianne Stephens, all of Muldrow; a sister, Betty Burtnett and her husband, Harold of Jay, Okla.; two brothers, Jim Pitts and his wife, Sandy of Colbert, Okla. and Jack Pitts and his wife, Lois of Jay, Okla.; one aunt, Ada Seaborne of Zena, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.
