Laurene E. Smith

TRUMANN -- Laurene E. Smith, 85, of Trumann died Saturday, March 19, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born in Kentucky, she was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Trumann.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Odie and Laura Jeffries Smith, and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Trumann with Dr. Tad Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the church.

Thomas Jake Smith

CHERRY VALLEY -- Thomas Jake Smith, 68, of Cherry Valley died Friday, March 18, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born at Bay, he was a farmer and employed with Triple Creek Farms and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Smith of the home; two sisters, Pearl Brown of Trumann and Dean McDaniel of Hickory Ridge; three brothers, George Smith of Paragould, Herbert Smith of Bay and Richard Smith of Harrisburg; three sons, Ricky Smith, James Smith and Mitchell Smith, all of Cherry Valley; two daughters, Vickie Pittman of Las Vegas and Pam Butler of Wilburn; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley Smith and Eva Easter Smith; two brothers; one sister; and a granddaughter, Dezma Holt.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Weston Funeral Service Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Allen Quinn and the Rev. Anthony Clem officiating. Burial will follow in Tyre Cemetery in Cherry Valley.

Active pallbearers will be Ricky Lee Smith, Thomas Butler, Gregory Butler, Shannon Summers, Derrick Pittman and William Dawson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Clem, Isaac Webb, Wade Smith, Eddie Smith, Richard Smith and Daniel Potter.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

David W. Springer

HARDY -- David W. Springer, 84, of Hardy died Saturday, March 19, at Eaglecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ash Flat.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel in Highland.

Janette Ione Blunt

TRUMANN -- Janette Ione Blunt, 85, of Trumann died Monday, April 4, at Trumann Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Trumann, she was a lifetime resident of the area, a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two brothers, Vernon Barnes of Trumann and Earnest Barnes of Elkhart, Ind.; and three sisters, Lucille Prince of South Bend, Ind., Dorothy M. Price of Goshen, Ind., and Helen Garrett of Jonesboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Daniel Blunt; her parents, Oscar Joseph and Jennie Ione Buchanan Barnes; one sister; and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann, with the Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Garrett, David Shuburte, Ronnie Jones, Lloyd Jones, Chad Bishop and Brad Bishop.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William "Mr. Bill" Brashers

CAVE CITY -- William Gene "Mr. Bill" Brashers, 67, of Cave City died Monday, April 4, at his home.

Born at Little Rock, he was retired from the Cave City School system. He attended Cave City Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Erma-Jean Brashers; three sons, Bryan Andrews and Bill Brashers Jr., both of Cave City, and Jerry Brashers of Batesville; three daughters, Trish Penn and Wanda Eckley, both of Cave City, and Melissa Foster of Batesville; four brothers, Bobby Tuggle of Evening Shade, Gerald Tuggle of Cave City, Donald Tuggle of Paragould and R.H. Tuggle of Portland; three sisters, Carlene Waddell of Florrissant, Mo., Francis Hughes of Malden, Mo., and Sylvia Breeden of Licking, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Travis Penn, Kaitlyn Penn and David Brashers, all of Cave City, Amanda Foster, Blake Goodman, Dustin Brashers and Derek Brashers, all of Batesville, Preston Goodman of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Kayla Crawford of Judsonia; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cave City First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Allen Brown and the Rev. Lavon Post officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery, located west of Cave City.

Active pallbearers will be Preston Goodman, Blake Goodman, Travis Penn, Gary Bradley, George Rudick and James Ring.

Honorary pallbearers will be Amanda Foster, David Brashers, Kaitlyn Penn, Tom Foley, Bob Brown and Von Dean Matlock.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Mary Bernice Bryant

FISHER -- Mary Bernice Bryant, 85, of Fisher died Sunday, April 3, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born in Fisher, she was a retired bookkeeper for Wixson Brothers Equipment Co. in Fisher and attended Fisher Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sisters, Joyce Sanders of Fisher and Inez Maynard of Jonesboro; and a brother, Ralph L. Bryant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Verna Chamness Bryant, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher Church of Christ, with Sherman Cullum officiating. Burial will follow in Fisher Cemetery under the direction of Langford-Bookout Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Pallbearers will be Michael Keiser, Greyson Sanders, Shannon Sanders, Mark Grantham, Steven Maynard and Travis Grantham.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Fisher Church of Christ or to the Fisher Cemetery Fund.

John T. Buss

MEMPHIS -- John T. Buss, 79, of Memphis, formerly of Weiner, died Friday, April 1, at the VA Medical Center in Memphis.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Langford-Bookout Funeral Home.

Patricia Decker

WALNUT RIDGE -- Patricia Decker, 65, of Walnut Ridge died Sunday, April 3, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Higginbotham Funeral Services of Walnut Ridge.

Hughie Hudgings

GOSNELL -- Hughie Hudgings, 80, a lifelong resident of Gosnell, died Saturday, April 2, at St. Joseph's Mercy Health Center in Hot Springs.

He was a member of Gosnell Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher.

A graduate of Gosnell High School, he served in the Seabee Section of the U.S. Navy. Following the Navy service, he worked as a carpenter in the Blytheville area. He was elected to the office of financial secretary of Carpenter's Local Union No. 884 at Blytheville. In 1956, he became a Blytheville Air Force Base civilian employee and remained there until he retired as chief of planning for the 97th Civil Engineering Squadron in 1983.

He and his wife also operated the Hudgings Motel at Gosnell from 1970-2002.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel Hudgings of the home; his daughter, Karen Green of Hot Springs; two grandchildren, Lynn Quick and Jimmy Bunch, both of Blytheville; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hughie Hudgings Sr. and Kathleen Hudgings Grimes, and by his stepfather, Burl Grimes.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Cobb Funeral Home chapel at Blytheville with the Rev. Eddie Clemmons officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jim Lemons

NEWPORT -- Jim Lemons, 79, of Newport died Friday, April 1, in Newport.

Born in Jackson County, he was an ordained minister and retired from Victor Metal after 36 years.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey Balch Lemons of Newport; a son, Randy Lemons of North Little Rock; a daughter, Linda Wymer of Jacksonville; two stepsons, John Burgin of Little Rock and Charles Burgin of Newport; a sister, Ethel Thompson of Flint, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Lemons, his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Jackson's Newport Funeral Home, with Jim Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Russell Burgin, Greg Burgin, Mike Burgin, David Wymer, Richie Burgin and Gill Newnum.

Honorary pallbearers will include the men of Faith Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
