SALLISAW — Curtis Bill Roberts, 79, of Sallisaw died Friday, June 8, 2001, in his home in the Akins community. He was a veteran of World War II, was retired from Cookson Hills Electric with more than 20 years of service and was a Baptist.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Akins cemetery near Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Savilla Mae Roberts; a daughter, Faye Short, of Sallisaw; two sons, Billy of Van Buren and Ronnie of Sallisaw; two sisters, Doris Richardson of Sallisaw and Callie Killian of Pearcy; and five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Steve Foster, Hobie Jones, Clarence and Duane Martindale, Randy Moore and Ray Armstrong.
The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to noon today.
Honorary pallbearers will be retired Cookson Hills employees.

ROGER CARSON
Roger Wayne Carson, 54, of Fort Smith died Sunday, June 10, 2001, in Fort Smith. He was a regional manager for Cable Network Advertising Inc.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by one daughter, Tracy Dawn Carson of Fort Smith; two brothers, Tommy Carson of Tulsa and Bobby Carson of Clovis, Calif.; four nephews, Matthew, Joel and Adam Carson, all of California, and Josh Carson of Tulsa; and one niece, Anna Carson of Tulsa.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Pugh, Tom Wooten, Tim Garrett, Chan Holcombe, Joel Price and Bill Shannon Brook.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice, 5401 Ellsworth, Fort Smith, AR 72903.

LUTHER BUSH
MULDROW — Luther T. Bush, 72, of Muldrow died Friday, June 8, 2001, in Muldrow.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in Lee’s Chapel Church in Muldrow with burial at Lee’s Chapel cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home in Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; two sons, Tommy Lee Bush and Lonnie Sullivan, both of Muldrow; a sister, Allie Norris of Yuma, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Stephen Bush, Brandi Watson and D.J. Thomas; and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Prescott, Joe Lee, Richard Huggins, John Paul James, Justin Godwin and Derick Godwin.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Gene Doty
Gene Doty, 79, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, in his home. He was born Jan. 29, 1924, in Fort Smith, was retired from the Fort Smith Fire Department, an Army veteran of World War II, of the Methodist faith, a Mason and a member of Belle Point Lodge No. 20, former owner of Doty Parcel Delivery and the widower of the late Lucile Doty.
Private graveside service was held Jan. 6, 2004, at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by a daughter, Bronwyn Brown of Fort Smith; a brother, Harlon Doty of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren, Adam and Erin Brown.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 110, c/o Central Presbyterian Church, 2901 Rogers, Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Ruby Jewell Henson
Ruby Jewell Henson, 88, of Van Buren died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, in a local hospital. She was a member of Van Buren Freewill Baptist Church, a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Crawford County. She was married to Earl Henson and they had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Officiating at her service will be her nephew, the Rev. Gary Crowder.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Henson of the home; two sons, Ray Henson Jr. and his wife, Joyce of Alma and Leon Henson and his wife, Carol of Van Buren; two sisters, Lois Travis and Velta Crowder, both of Van Buren; seven grandchildren, including Vince and Shannon Chaffin and Rusty and Amy Menke; and 10 great-grandchildren, including Landen Chaffen and Rodney Menke; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Rusty Menke, Vince Chaffin, Kerry Garner, and her nephews, Johnny Rice, Jimmy Don Crowder and Burl Crowder.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, 700 Jefferson in Van Buren.

Everett Lee “Mac” McGuire
Everett Lee “Mac” McGuire, age 67, 33-year resident of Oak Harbor, died at his home on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, following a brief illness.
Mr. McGuire was born in Fort Smith on May 20, 1936, to Chester Lee McGuire and Juanita Huggins McGuire. He was raised in Fort Smith. For a time, he was employed for a local meat packer, delivering meat to customers. He eventually joined the Navy and served for 20 years retiring as an E-6. During his years in the military, he served as a tugmaster and boatswain’s mate. His duty stations included San Diego, NAS Whidbey, Viet Nam and Adak, before returning to NAS Whidbey and retirement. He set up a dry dock at Cam Ranh Bay and ran a reefer at Saigon. Mac was married to Arvada Letha Hollister on July 29, 1961, in Las Vegas. The finally settled in Oak Harbor in 1973. Mac was a member of New Covenant Fellowship. He enjoyed gardening, drawing, playing harmonica and woodworking. He was also a member of the Rod and Gun Club.
Mac is survived by his wife, Arvada, at home; two daughters, Laura McGuire-Kent and husband Alan and son Wyatt of Colorado Spring, Colo., and Shannon Kraft and husband, Nicolas and children, Madison, Tanyon, Moises and Tucker; seven brothers, Albert McGuire and Jackie McGuire, both of Arkoma, Richard McGurie and Tony McGuire, both of Fort Smith, Charles, Dickie and Roy McGuire, all of Roland; two sisters, Connie Casey of Muldrow and Doris Haney of Roland; 37 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel. A private family graveside service at Maple Leaf cemetery will be followed by a memorial service at New Covenant Fellowship on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1234, Anacortes, WA 98221. Arrangements under direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.

Willis W. Edwards
Willis W. Edwards, 76, of Roland died Sunday, Jan. 4 2004, in Fort Smith. He was the retired owner and operator of Edwards Excavation, a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Fort Smith, a member of the V.F.W. and an Army veteran.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Edwards of the home; a son, Jamie Mark Edwards of Fort Smith; two stepdaughters, LaRae Cox of Eagle Pass, Texas, and Sharon Bolton of Baton Rouge, La.; a stepson, Gary McClellan of Greenwood; five sisters, Wanda Jones of Phoenix, Anita Wilson of Sherwood, Sally Kinkley of Columbus, Ohio, Alice Lansdale of Groton, Conn., and Carol Marie Allen of Preston, Conn.; four brothers, Rhuel Dean Edwards of Van Buren, Robert G. Edwards of Dardanelle, Dan Edwards of Roland and Randy Edwards of Cleveland; two grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jason Cox, John Bolton, Jeff Bolton, Justin, Terry and Nolen Edwards, Rick Ellison and Mike Morehart.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home.

Martha Irene Barnes
Martha Irene Barnes, 73, of Roland went to her heavenly reward on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, in Sallisaw. Irene was born on March 13,1930, to John H. Asbill and Bessie Bertha Baldridge Asbill in Greasy, Okla. She married James E. “Eddie” Barnes in Stilwell, Okla., on Jan. 24, 1946. She was a seamstress for 15 years.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Victory Temple Pentecostal Church in Roland with burial at Northview cemetery north of Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Muldrow. Viewing will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Agent Funeral Home in Muldrow. The family will greet friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, James E. “Eddie” Barnes of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Bertha and Robert Farmer, Kay and Vernon Davis, all of Muldrow, Kim and Terry Brown of Fort Smith; two sisters, Thelma Waconda of Albuquerque, N.M., and Virginia Vanderburg of Arlee, Mont.; six grandchildren, Eddie Farmer, Mike Davis, Glenna Middleton, Sherri Bishop, Ashley Brown and Heather Brown; eight great-grandchildren; and very special friends, Jr. and Norma Rogers. She was preceded in death by one son, Paul Edward Barnes; her parents and three brothers, G.W., Kenneth and J.B. Asbill.
Pallbearers will be Mike Davis, Eddie Farmer, Daniel Middleton, Brandon Bishop, Mike Barnes and Jay Asbill.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Bishop, Mike Rogers, Mark Rogers, Eddie George, Vernon Davis, Terry Brown and Robert Farmer.

Doris R. Tanner
Doris R. Tanner, 74, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Tanner Sr.; a son Tom Tanner; and a granddaughter, Mary Woods.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Pamela Woods and Regina Cameron, both of Fort Smith; two sons, Michael Tanner of Fort Smith and David L. Tanner Jr. of Dana Point, Calif.; two sisters, Rebecca Bailey of Mobile, Ala., and Norma Jean Bailey of Hornbeak, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jake Cole, John Cole, Brian Tanner and Gaines Woods III.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home.

Lloyd Stout
Lloyd Stout, 90, of Hartford died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, in his home. He was retired from the Chrysler Corporation, an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Hartford Lodge No. 609 F&AM. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florene Stout.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Hartford with burial at Hartford Memorial Park under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home.
He is survived by one daughter, Judy Hyre and her husband, Reed of Hartford; two granddaughters, Tracey Smiley of Hazel Park, Mich., and Amy Gillam of Centerline, Mich.; three great-grandchildren, Faith and James Smiley and Emily Gillam; one sister-in-law, Mamie Stout of Leonard, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be Thursday, Jan. 8 from 1 to 8 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home in Hartford.
Memorial contributions may be made to Midland United Methodist Church or the Hartford Senior Citizen’s Center.

Dorothy “Dottie” Sprague
Dorothy “Dottie” Sprague, 71, of Cabot passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, in Cabot. She was a homemaker and served as a nondeominational minister for several years. She was born in Greenwood on May 29, 1932.
She is survived by two daughters, Ida McLean and husband, Robert of Cabot and Geneva Renee Sprague of Cabot; one sister, Mary Wofford of Fort Smith; two brothers, Ben Loudermilk of Washburn, Mo., and Charles Loudermilk of Michigan; and three grandchildren, Jody Wood, Alexander McLean and Saunice Sprague, all of Cabot.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. John Hagenbuch officiating. Interment will be at Hartford Memorial Park in Hartford.
The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Syna Rae “Sandy” Kennon Thurman
Syna Rae “Sandy” Kennon Thurman, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer in Fort Smith.
Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Edwards Funeral Home with Mr. Dee Meador and Mr. Homer Kennon officiating. Interment will be at U.S. National cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Sandy Thurman was born and reared in Doniphan, Mo. She was an excellent cook, quilter, furniture refinisher, doll and antique collector as well as a wonderful seamstress who believed the inside of a garment should look as good as the outside. Her grandson, Conrad, was the highlight of her life. She was active at the Valley View Church of Christ.
The family would like to give thanks to Peachtree Hospice, Valley View and Westark Church of Christ member and friends for their loving care.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Elvis Thurman; daughter, Susan Meyer and her husband, Craig of Granbury, Texas; grandson, Conrad Meyer of Granbury, Texas; stepmother, Dolas Kennon of Doniphan, Mo.; brothers, Homer Kennon of McCrory, Ronald Kennon of Doniphan, Mo., Jim Kennon of Rockford, Ill., Charles Mackley of Arizona; sisters, Thelma Green of Newport, Mary Montgomery of Deer Park, Ill., Retta Crosson of Raleigh, N.C., Martha Lueker of St. Charles, Mo., Ruth Friend of Cadiz, Ky., Rita Keel of Van Buren, Barbara Nottmier of St. Louis, Willene Mackley of Doniphan, Mo., Joyce Mathis of St. Charles, Mo., and Laverne Armor of Naylor, Mo. She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

Harold Dean Richmond
Harold Dean Richmond, 60, of Oklahoma City died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, in Oklahoma City. He was a resident of Oklahoma City, of the Baptist faith and an insurance adjuster for Source General Insurance Agency of Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his parents, V.W. and Tessie Richmond; and brothers, V.R. and Bill Richmond.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by two daughters, Dayna Richmond of Fort Smith and Tammy Carson of Benton; four sisters, Katherine Scott of New Mexico, Emma Lou Harrell of Alabama, Josephine Cox and Elizabeth Mason, both of Van Buren; a brother, Paul Richmond of Oklahoma City; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Austin Cates, Randall and Larry Richmond, Ronald and Richard Mason, Tim Neidecker, Jim Anderson and Ian Jefferson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Mike Richmond, John Hall, Berry Warren, Dave Bard, Mike and Don Richmond and Horatio Chocan.

Ruth Speckman
MARBLE CITY — Ruth Davis Speckman, 87, of Marble City died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, in Sallisaw. She was a member of Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’ Missionary League, and was the widow of Loyd Davis and Lorenz Speckman.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sallisaw with burial at 2 p.m. at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Gibson, Okla., under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by a sister, Lena Ginn of Haskell, Okla.; a brother, Carl Hixson of Conway; and one stepgrandchild.
Pallbearers will be Kevin, Gary and John Hixson, Mike Hope, Jimmy Ginn and Craig Fitzgerald.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.
The family will visit with friends today from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
