Irene Branham Howard
Irene Branham Howard, 82, of Fort Smith passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Howard.
Graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
She is survived by her sons, Lynn Howard of Hackett and Alan Howard of Pasadena, Texas; a sister, Nadean Jones and husband, Barney of Florida; brothers, Charles Branham and wife, Patricia of Oklahoma City and Don Branham and wife, Barbara of Hackett; grandchildren, Melissa Yeakley and husband, Charles of Greenwood, Brad Howard and wife, Lynette of Hartford, Andrea Howard of Fort Smith and Alana Howard of Fort Smith; great-grandchildren, Cassie Yeakley of Greenwood and Dylan Howard of Fort Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Nena, Jerry Nena, Larry Nena, Marvin Branham, Stuart Branham, Glenn Branham, Bill Jones, Brad Howard and Charles Yeakley.
Phillip G. Taylor
Phillip G. Taylor, 50, of Alma departed this world Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 while in his home. He was born Dec. 8, 1953, in Fort Smith. Formerly, while residing in Connecticut, he was an experienced machinist. Phillip was a loving husband and father. He was also a wonderful grandfather. Everyone will miss him and his spirit will live on through many.
He is survived by his wife, Robin; and four sons, Phillip Allen Taylor of Muldrow, Donald Taylor of Alma, William “Billy” Taylor of Mountainburg, and Jason Taylor of Alma; three grandchildren, Mason Taylor of Alma, Kali Taylor and Kiera Underwood, both of Muldrow.
Graveside service will be Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 at 2 p.m. Interment will be at New cemetery in Mulberry. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements will be by Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Allen Taylor, Donald Taylor, William “Billy” Taylor, Jason Taylor, Curtis Nixon and Jirad Blankenship. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Joe Rice Sr., Raymond “Bubba” Huff, Billy Joe Rice Jr. and Jason Blankenship.
Nellie Powers
WISTER — Nellie L. Powers, 88, of Wister died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in Poteau. She was born April 6, 1915, in LeFlore. She was a nurse, was a member of First Baptist Church in Wister and the widow of B.A. Powers.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Wister with burial at LeFlore cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
She is survived by three daughters, Marjorie Shoup of Cameron, Mary Chronister of Poteau, and Wanda Roden of Wister; a son, Joe Powers of Wister; three brothers, J.T. Kitchens of Broken Arrow, Okla., James Kitchens of Rushford, Minn., and W.C. Kitchens of Wister; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Wood, Stephen Akins, Mark and Jeff Chronister, Brock Powers and Lance Smith.
Leah Atwell
Leah Davis Atwell, 81, of Fort Smith died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in a local hospital. She was a member of the Assembly of God, a former member of the Women’s Ministry, was a retired employee of the Electrolux Co., and the widow of Nick Rowe and Sidney Davis.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Pearcy Atwell; five daughters, Debbie Griffis of Fort Smith, Nina Jackson of Greenville, S.C., Janet Stark of Atlanta, Glenda Ingalls of Plano, Texas, and Gail James of Marshall, Texas; two sons, Gary Rowe of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Buck Davis of Charleston; a sister, Belva Dodd of Fort Smith; a brother, the Rev. Gilbert Pixley of Van Buren; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tyler and Adam James, Ryan Griffis, Bill Pennington, Jay Jackson and Jerry Foley.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Grace Womack
SPIRO — Grace M. Crowe Womack, 76, of Spiro died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a member of Spiro First Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery, attended services provided by Calvary Southern Baptist Church at the nursing home and a former member of National Secretaries Association. She worked for Hogan Real Estate, Johnson Lawnmower and the John Deere plant in Ottuma, Iowa. She worked for Dade County and was employed in Fort Smith area as a secretary, and was a home caregiver at night.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro with burial at Spiro City cemetery in Spiro.
She is survived by a sister, Helen Childers of Central City, Iowa.
Pallbearers will be Greg and Roger Duncan, Vic Neve and Ed Blankenship.
The body may viewed at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Zetta Post
KINGSLAND — Zetta Mae Post, 78, of Kingsland died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in her home. She was born Oct. 5, 1925, in Cleveland County. She was a homemaker, a member of Barnett Chapter No. 451 Order of Eastern Star, the Mount Elba Missionary Baptist Church, and the widow of Jabie Post.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Buie Funeral Home Chapel in Rison with Order of Eastern Star services following. Burial will follow at Shady Grove cemetery near Edinburg.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Crutchfield of Kingsland; three sons, Jerry Post of Batesville, Paul Post of Fort Smith and Lamar Post of Kingsland; seven sisters, Erma Taylor of Houston, Lavern Hart of Fordyce, Betty Gorman of Cabot, Frances Short of North Little Rock, Dean Hogancamp of New Edinburg, Nedreva Beck of Sheridan and Sue Noble of Pine Bluff; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Lula Holden
WHITEFIELD — Lula Holden, 98, of Whitefield died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, in her home.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Coleman cemetery in Porum, Okla. under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
She is survived by three daughters, Myrtle Purdom and Pauline Doss, both of Whitefield, and Bonnie Likin of Porum, Okla.; two sons, Bud and Robert Holden, both of Whitefield; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dale and Josh Bray, Dusty and Mack Oldham, Justin Wixom, Bob Clarke, Bud Cameron and David Likin.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday.
Margaret Durham
Margaret Alice Durham, 79, of Fort Smith died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in her home. She was a retired waitress for food services at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, a member of Central Baptist Church and of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Good Samaritans. She was the widow of Bobby Durham.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Central Baptist Church with burial at Newberry Chapel cemetery in Alma under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by four daughters, Karla Goodwin, Billie Valentini, and Deloris Biocic, all of Fort Smith, and Teresia Herrington of Midland; two sisters, Delema Eldridge and Odell Keller, both of Van Buren; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James and Alton Keller, J.C. Cartwright, David Reamy, Chuck and Cody Mahar.
Honorary pallbearers will be her Sunday school class, The Truth Seekers.

Arvin Massengale Jr.
HARTMAN — Arvin “Junior” Massengale Jr., 67, of Hartman died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, in Clarksville. He was born May 6, 1936, in Alpena. He was a graduate of Clarksville High School, a supervisor for 10 years at Navajo Mining Co. in Farmington, N.M. and a retired maintenance supervisor at Arkansas Nuclear One. He raised registered cattle and horses, former president of Johnson County Round Up Club, was a deacon and member of First Baptist Church, former Girls Club basketball and baseball coach and was owner and operator of AMJ Machine Co. in Hartman.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with burial at West Mount Zion cemetery in Hartman under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; two daughters, Le Aitken of Scranton and Sheila Thomas of Clarksville; a son, Terry Massengale of Alma; three sisters, Wanda Cozort of House Springs, Mo., Ann Smith of Waldron and Rita Vaught of Scranton; three brothers, F.M. Massengale of Green Forest, Carroll Massengale of Cedarville and Garrie Massengale of Searcy; and several grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Donald Meek, Danny Leeds, Tim Swindle, Dane Woodard, Dave Ross and Lonnie Qualls.

Joseph Westmoreland
MANSFIELD, Texas — Joseph Austin Westmoreland, 71, of Mansfield, Texas, formerly of Magazine, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in Mansfield. He was a member of Masonic Blocker Lodge No. 247, a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, served in the 
Korean War, was retired from the Waxahachie Postal Service and a former reserve police officer in Waxahachie, Texas.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Assembly of God in Magazine with burial at Cauthron cemetery near Magazine under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.
He is survived by two sons, Joe and Kenneth Westmoreland, both of Texas; two sisters, Lillie Gordon and Nelda Baird, both of Magazine; five brothers, Kenneth, Billy, Norris, Raymond and Daymond Westmoreland, all of Magazine; and three grandchildren.
Harold Lobdill
Harold Taylor Lobdill, 73, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, in a local hospital. He was an Army veteran, a graduate of University of Arkansas, and attended Butterfield Assembly of God.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Fairview cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; a daughter, Sherry Grizzle of Fort Smith; two stepdaughters, Barbara Burcham of Fort Smith and Beverly Kelley of Cecil; two stepsons, Fred Elder of Killeen, Texas and Carl Kimes of Lavaca ; a sister, Olive Neal of Van Buren; a brother, Robert Lobdill of Van Buren; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mark Chase, Peter Morgan, Matt Burcham, Nathan and Larry Kimes and Bradley Grizzle.

Ruth Hederi Kennedy, 94, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, in her home. She was a Baptist and a retired department store clerk.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Firday at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Verl; and a sister, Camilla McCraney of Richmond, Va.
Russell Ward
MIDLAND — Russell “Rusty” Ward, 36, of Midland died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in his home. He was a service technician for Gregory Salisbury Power Products, a member of God’ Hope Christian Church in Mansfield and a veteran of the Army Reserve.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Midland with burial at Mount Olive cemetery in Midland under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly; a daughter, Elizabeth Ward of the home; a son, Seth Ward of the home; his mother, Mary Ward of Greenwood; two sisters, Lesli Bloomfield of North Las Vegas and Cindy McKean of Greenwood; and a brother, Steve Haymond of Barling.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Bradley, Gerrad McClure, Nelson Nichols, Victor Wallace, Wes Cumbie and Doug Boyd.

Barbara A. Yates, 69, of Fort Smith passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a retired bond clerk and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ellis Yates; a son, Carl Morton Yates; and her father, Eugene Roddy.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean Ann Wilson of Springdale; and her son, Roddy Yates of Fort Smith; her mother, Mrs. Frances Roddy of Fort Smith; and five grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. today at St. Boniface Catholic Church with her good friend Father Bill Elser officiating. Interment will be at Calvary cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

Annabelle Owens
Annabelle Owens, 89, of Fort Smith died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Owens; and a granddaughter, Kendra Pellegrini.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. today at Christ the King Catholic Church in Fort Smith under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith. Cremation to follow service.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and John Mazurkiewicz of Fort Smith, Kathleen and Chuck Pellegrini of Alexandria, Va., and Patricia and Marcos Estrada of Long Beach, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Merry Owens of Wyandotte, Mich.; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
