Lyman 'L.A.' Brooks

VAN BUREN -- Funeral services for Lyman A. "L.A." Brooks, 80, of Van Buren, formerly of Leachville, who died Friday, April 22, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Howard Funeral Service of Leachville.

David Lawrence will officiate. Burial will follow in Gainsville Cemetery near Paragould.

Born at Portageville, Mo., he was a longtime Leachville resident. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and worked for several cotton gins in Northeast Arkansas. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Fortson Brooks of the home; five daughters, Tina McCoy of Leachville, Mary Lewis of Van Buren, Terrie Broyles of Barling and Joyce Brooks and Judy Brooks, both of Missouri; a son, Lyman Brooks Jr.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son; his parents, Walter J. and Mary Ramsey Brooks; two brothers; two sisters; and a grandson.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Patricia Davis Foster

POCAHONTAS -- Patricia Lucille Davis Foster, 78, of Pocahontas died Sunday, April 24, at Pocahontas Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born at Jonesboro, she was an administrator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Survivors include three sons, Paul Foster and Tom Foster, both of Pocahontas, and Bevley Foster Jr. of Wichita Falls, Texas; a daughter, Catherine Foster of Pocahontas; a sister, Jean Upshaw of Dalton; 12 grandchildren, Dionne Foster, Heather Foster, Jill Hunt, Julie Adamson, Lori Thompson, Bryan Foster, Julie Phillips, Steven Childress, Austin Oglesby, Felicia Oglesby, Mack Foster and Ron Foster; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bevley Elisha "B.E." Foster Sr.; and her parents, Carl and Codia Hepner Davis.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at McNabb Funeral Home of Pocahontas, with Stan Little and Stan Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Reynolds Cemetery at Dalton.

Pallbearers will be Tom Foster, Paul Foster, Bevley Foster Jr., Max Hackworth, Steven Childress and Bryan Foster.

Honorary pallbearers will include Jerry Hackworth, Mack Foster and Ron Foster.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ara Morgan Garner

HARRISBURG -- Ara Morgan Garner, 85, of Harrisburg died Sunday, April 24, at Harrisburg.

Born at Scotts Hill, Tenn., she moved 60 years ago to Harrisburg from Etowah. She farmed and worked at Verser Clinic. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Harrisburg and was active in several church groups, including WOM, TEL, Sunday school and the senior citizens' group.

Survivors include four sons, Travis Greene and Jimmy Greene, both of Harrisburg, Terry Garner of Williamsville, Mo., and Murlen Garner of Carlyle, Ill.; two daughters, Sue Roach of Jonesboro and Ann Mitleff of Harrisburg; a sister, Wanda Lee "Jackie" Seratt of Bay; 17 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Garner; her parents, A.A. "Doc" and Ara Addie Pratt Morgan; three brothers; a sister; and a grandson.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Harrisburg, with Jerry Kausler officiating. Burial will be in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery. Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Tim Moore, Danny Greene, David Greene, Jason Garner, Scott Garner and Anthony Mitleff.

Honorary pallbearers will include James Williams, Harrison Johns, Jim Tom Butler and Don Molder.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Fist Baptist Church of Harrisburg.

Lawrence Grazevich

PIGGOTT -- Lawrence Grazevich, 82, of Piggott died Saturday, April 23, at Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born at Benld, Ill.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Showmaker Grazevich of Piggott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Augusta Grazevich.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home, with Shelly Elkins officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery at Pollard.

Pallbearers will be Bob Palmer, Luke Palmer, Grover Baker, Gary McKenney, Jerry Grider and Bob Lightfoot.

Jane N. Holland

JONESBORO -- Jane N. Holland, 52, of Jonesboro died Sunday, April 24, at University of Arkansas Medical Center at Little Rock.

Born at Jasper, Ala., she moved to Jonesboro in 1988, moving here from Hot Springs. She was a graduate of Harding University and member of Associated Women for Harding. She attended Southwest Church of Christ and was a member of the Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program and the National and American Extension Association for Family and Consumer Sciences.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Holland of the home; one son, Aaron Lloyd Holland of the home; one daughter, Heather Nagle Holland of the home; her mother, Anne M. Nagle of Montgomery, Ala.; one brother, John Edward Nagle of Pleasant Grove, Ala.; and a twin sister, Jean N. Davis of Andalusia, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her father, John S. Nagle.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Southwest Church of Christ, with Dr. Jimmy Adcox officiating. Burial will be in Nettleton Cemetery under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Active pallbearers will be Bo Mitchell, Don Beck, Steve Culp, Eric Grant, Branon Thiesse, Raymon Covey, Vance Morrison and Richard Long.

Max Albert James

BLYTHEVILLE -- Max Albert James, 69, of Blytheville died Saturday, April 23, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born at Marble Hill, Mo., he was a retired truck driver with 30 years at Bush Brothers Trucking.

Survivors include his wife, Nettie Houchin James; a son, Renny James of Cardwell, Mo.; two daughters, Lanita Baker of Nashville, Tenn., and Vickie Parish of Blytheville; two brothers, Larry James of Greenville, Mo., and Jerry James of Marble Hill; a sister, Joyce Young of Marble Hill; seven grandchildren, Jason Parish, Racheal Baker, Joey Parish, Jessica Parish Duncan, Kristyn James, Max Tyler James and Gunnar James; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jerrina Lynne James; and his parents, Johnny and Isabell Lincoln James.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Dogwood Cemetery, with Dr. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Cobb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Doris Jean Ratliff

TEXARKANA -- Doris Jean Ratliff, 78, of Texarkana died Saturday, April 23.

Born at Smithville, she lived in St. Louis in the '40s before moving to Jonesboro and was a Sunday school teacher and preschool aid at Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Earl Ratliff of Texarkana; two sons, Michael Ratliff of Tyler, Texas and Mark Ratliff of Springdale; a daughter, Dr. Phyllis Miller Burton of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, Karen Henry of Tampa, Fla., Kyle Henry of Plano, Texas, Jenny Sawyer of Keller, Texas, Matthew Ratliff and Kelton Ratliff, both of College Station, Texas, Susan Ratliff of Denton, Texas and Julie Ratliff of Tyler; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Juddie Moore and Mildred Montgomery Dent.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Texarkana Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.

Jewell Thielmier

MARKED TREE -- Funeral services for Jewell Thielmier, 79, of Marked Tree, who died Saturday, April 23, at Skill Care Nursing Home at Jonesboro, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Murphy Funeral Home.

Ronnie Benson will officiate. Burial will be in Marked Tree Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Larry Tarlton, Stephen Evans, Michael Layman, Steve Wren, Doug Thielmier, Henry Thielmier, Michael Thielmier and Dennis Thielmier.

Honorary pallbearers will include Glen Swingle, Frank Brunner, Cleo Johnson, L.D. Tarlton, Phillip Brunner, Buddy Lovell, Richard Fleming and Clois Hamilton.

The owner and operator of a Marked Tree retail store, she was a founding member of Beta Sigma Phi and a member of Sioree Bridge Club since 1946 and Liberty Street Church of Christ of Marked Tree.

Survivors include a son, Greg Thielmier of Jonesboro; a daughter, Patricia Dempsey of Huntsville, Ala.; two brothers, Doyle Tarlton of Jonesboro and Bill Tarlton of Cove; three grandchildren, Robb Dempsey, Greg Dempsey and Jessy Thielmier; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Thielmier.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Bernard's Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
