Norma Lea Kellar
Norma Lea Kellar, 85, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2004, in Van Buren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dumas, Texas. Norma was born in the Oliver Springs community to J.S. and Stella Long Watkins. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was the widow of the late James Wallas Kellar. Norma and Wallas lived for many years in Dumas, Texas. Norma was a beautician and a homemaker.
Norma is survived by one son, James Ferrel Kellar and his wife, Lila of Bastrop, Texas; one sister-in-law, Jewell Whatley of California; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; locally, nephews Jim Hall and Don Watkins; and a niece, Willa Dean Yones.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at the Oliver Springs cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home. The Rev. L. Chester Guinn will officiate. Brother Guinn performed the wedding ceremony for Norma and Wallas, March 20, 1941.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Iva Lee Hearn
Iva Lee Hearn, 91, of Greenwood passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, in Greenwood. She was a member of the Greenwood First Baptist Church and a retired teacher of 40 years. Ms. Hearn attended Arkansas Tech University at Russellville, the University of Central Arkansas at Conway and received her master’s of education degree in education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She taught schools in rural Paris, Jenny Lind and Greenwood and in Charleston, S.C., and was retired from the Fort Smith Public School System. She was a member of the National Education System, the Arkansas Education Association, the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association and had been honored with a lifetime membership in the Parent Teacher Organization.
She is survived by her sister, Wilma Hearn Oliver of Greenwood; five nephews, Charles Hearn and his wife, Ann of Fort Smith, Jerry Hearn and his wife, Launa of Bryant, David Hearn and his wife, Betty of Greenwood, Bob Hearn and his wife, Jackie of Columbia, S.C., and Dale Oliver and his wife, Linda of Greenwood; four nieces, Ione Spearman and her husband, Gene of Greenwood, Margaret Hearn of Charleston, S.C., Luan Moore and her husband, Rodgers of Fort Smith and Gerri Lowe of Greenwood.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in Greenwood with interment at Gilliam cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Pallbearers were Charles, Jerry and David Hearn, Dale Oliver, Brandon Lowe and Rodgers Moore.

Dorothy Marie Hamilton
Dorothy Marie Hamilton, 82, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 15, 1921, in Mena to William S. Bodine and Anna E. Turner Bodine. She was a retired real estate agent, she attended the Gospel Rescue Mission in Van Buren, she was a member of the Van Buren Art Center, R.S.V.P., Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Embroidery Guild. She was preceded in death by her son, Gene of Spiro.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Gillion of Joshua, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Jo Alice Hamilton of Spiro; a sister, Billie Burychka of Denham Springs, La.; five grandchildren, Jackie Hamilton and his wife, Dottie of Jacksonville, Fla., Wayne Hamilton and his wife, Joni of Montgomery, Texas, Donna Miller and her husband, Paco of Joshua, Texas, Mike Gillion and his wife, Vickie of Spiro, and Jody Fanning and her husband, Karl of Broken Arrow, Okla.; nine great-grandchildren, Zachary and Haley Allen of Joshua, Texas, Stephanie and Zachary Hamilton of Jacksonville, Fla., Clay, Mason and Samantha Gillion of Spiro, and Emily and Jackie Hamilton of Montgomery, Texas.

Floyd K. Brannon
Floyd K. Brannon, 77, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was a member of Evangel Temple in Fort Smith, a veteran of World War II, owner and operator of Crown Plumbing. He was preceded in death by his son, Kennith Brannon.
Funeral service will be today at 2 p.m. at Fentress Mortuary Chapel with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred; three daughters, Diana Rice of Anaheim Hills, Calif., Dorothy Breeze of Van Buren and Deborah Brannon of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Patricia Bell of Van Buren and Beverly McIlvain of West Virginia; one stepson, Lester Rose of Fort Smith; three sisters, Mary Belle Grande of Grass Valley, Calif., Jean Myers of Fort Smith and Bertha Barnard of Fort Smith; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Robert E. “Bob” Hough Jr.
Robert E. “Bob” Hough Jr. was a man among men, a fellow traveler along life’s journey who never met a stranger or a person he could not or would not help. Not since his father, the late Robert E. Hough, and never again after Bob will there be a husband, a father, a son, a brother or a lawyer like Bob. There was no one who came into contact with Bob who could resist his cheerfulness, his charm and wit, and most importantly, who did not benefit from his friendship, wisdom and spirituality. With the passing of Bob’s loving kindness, the world has a void, which will never be filled.
Bob was born Feb. 12, 1954, in Fort Sill, Okla. He left us Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004. We miss you and will always love you Bob.
Bob was admitted to practice before the Oklahoma Bar in 1987, and the Arkansas Bar in 1988. He was admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas in 1988, the U.S. Court of appeals for the 10th Circuit in 1989; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit in 1990, and the United States Supreme Court in 1991.
Bob attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, (B.S.B.A., May 1978 M.B.A. December 1978); and attended law school at the University of Tulsa (J.D. with honors, 1987). His honors at Arkansas included election to the accounting honor fraternity, Beta Alpha Psi, and at Tulsa, election to membership in the Order of the Curule Chair. He was also the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Awards for Evidence, Tort 1, Property 11, and Real Estate Transactions, while in law school. Bob became a Certified Public Accountant in 1980, in Arkansas, and in 1981, in Oklahoma. While at University of Tulsa College of Law, he served as a staff member on the Tulsa Law Journal and was the author of “Fresh Groundwater and Tertiary Oil Recovery: Oklahoma Water Resources Board V. Texas County Irrigation & Water Resources Association (Mobil Oil Corp.)”, 21 Tulsa L.J.565, (1986). He was also a co-author of the Continuing Legal Education manual, Collection of Judgments in Arkansas, published in 1992. Bob served as an adjunct instructor of Legal Ethics, and Commercial Law, Business Organizations, at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. In the Legal Assistant Program, where he was recipient of the 1998-99 Luella M. Krehbiel Part-time Excellence in Teaching Award, he served on the faculty Advisory Committee. He was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association. Bob also volunteered his time in the state program known as Arkansas Volunteer Attorneys for the Elderly (AVLE) and did so since 1988. He was the Volunteer of the Week, February 1997. Bob was also a 4-H volunteer leader in Sebastian County since 1994.
Bob was a longtime Christian and member of the Hackett United Methodist Church. Bob was an accomplished shooter and gun enthusiast and as a lifetime member of the NRA and lawyer, he was a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment. Bob also was a shooter in the exciting sport of IPSC.
Bob is missed by his wife of 22 years, Michele; his daughter, Stephanie Hough; his son, Robert E. “Bobby” Hough II; his mother, Sally Hough; his brothers, Stephen Hough and Keith Hough, and many other friends and relations.
Pallbearers will be Dale Pankratz, Doyle Dodson, Robert Ashburn, Mike Mulhern, Clay Binyon and Mark Koenigseder. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his IPSC Shooting family.
The visitation is scheduled from 1 to 9 p.m. today at McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood. His service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at the Hackett United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill cemetery in Hackett.

Lorene Dorzab
Lorene Dorzab, 90, of Fort Smith passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, in Tahlequah, Okla. She was a retired owner and operator of Eaglewood Ben Franklin Store in Independence, Mo. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid gardener, golfer and a pioneer in the crafts merchandise movement. She was a former resident of Hot Springs Village.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Roselawn cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Walker Dorzab; a son, Dr. Joe Henry Dorzab and his wife, Cindy of Fort Smith; a sister, Helen Albertson of Lawrence, Kan.; three grandchildren, Julie Afsah Mohalletee and her husband, Mike of Alexandria, Va., Wendy Dorzab of Tulsa and Amy Dorzab of Fayetteville.

BOONEVILLE — Ly Sayavongsa, 51, of Booneville died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2004, in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 17, 1952, in Veintian, Lao. She was a homemaker and of the Buddhist faith.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith. The body will be cremated after the service.
She is survived by a daughter, Caitlin Vansouphet of Fort Smith; two sons, Derek King of Muldrow and Savat Sayavongsa of Booneville; and 12 grandchildren.
Louise Aleshire
BIG FORK — Louise Faye Aleshire, 73, of Big Fork died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, in Mena. She was born Sept. 4, 1930, in Tulsa. She was a homemaker.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Dallas Avenue Baptist Church with burial at Board Camp cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
She is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Karen Miller of Big Fork and Brenda Huff of Mena; two sons, Keith Aleshire of Mena and John K. Aleshire of Big Fork; two brothers, Leonard Edwards and J.W. Hughes, both of Texas; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Helen Jackson
REEDLEY, Calif. — Helen Virginia Jackson, 83, of Reedley, Calif., formerly of Booneville, died Nov. 24, 2003. She was a member of Long Ridge Baptist Church and the widow of Doyle Jackson.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Roberts Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Booneville.
She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Tauer, Janet Lewis and Pamela Scharton; a sister, Nighel Huebert; three brothers, Walter, Adrin and Haskel; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Dwight Garren Jr.
OZARK — Dwight C. Garren Jr., 52, of Ozark died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, in Ozark. He was born Nov. 22, 1951, in Fort Chaffee. He was an automobile mechanic.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark. The body will be cremated.
He is survived by two sons, Dwight and David Garren, both of Ozark; his mother, Donna Garren of Charleston; three sisters, Nora Hamilton of Alix, Marry Spessard of Ozark and Susan Smith of Ratcliff; four brothers, Richard Garren of Battle Creek, Mich., Jefferson Garren of Knoxville, Marvin Garren of Paris and Donald Garren of Ozark.
Edward Brown Sr.
SALLISAW — Edward “Ed” Brown Sr., 58, of Sallisaw died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, in Sallisaw. He was born Dec. 20, 1945, in Sallisaw. He was a laborer for Sequoyah County Water Association, a Marine veteran of the Vietname War and a Free Will Baptist.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Way of the Cross Church in Sallisaw with burial at Brent cemetery south of Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; a son, Eddie Brown Jr. of Mountainburg; two sisters, Ellen Frank of Tulsa and Alta Hayes of Pryor, Okla.; two brothers, Floyd Brown of Tulsa and Jack Brown of Caney, Kan.; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Red and Loren Frank, Floyd, Jack, JD and Devlin Brown, J.O. Dodgen and Bobby Cartwright.

SALLISAW — Albert Wayne Seratt, 50, of Sallisaw died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in Sallisaw. He was born Aug. 30, 1953, in Monterey Park, Calif. He was in sales at Nix’s Medical Supply and served as elder at Sallisaw Chapter of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Sallisaw. Cremation will be under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Aundrea; his mother, Orvaline Graham of Laurel, Mont.; his father and stepmother, Albert and Arlene Seratt of Chester; two sisters, Susan Powell of Fort Smith and Shirley Carney of Lowell; two brothers, Steven Seratt of Mountainburg and Tim Seratt of Lavaca.
Donna Coker
Donna Kay Coker, 47, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, in her home. She was born May 4, 1956, in Dalton, Ga. She was an employee of Tyson Food and a member of West-Ark Church of God in Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. today at West-Ark Church of God in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Darden; four daughters, Jennifer Madison and Jessica Poor, both of Van Buren, Sara White of Alma and Samantha Coker of the home; a son, Cameron Coker of the home; her mother, Frances Smith of Dalton, Ga.; a sister, Paula Gordon of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother, Gerald Foster of Rocky Face, Ga.; and eight grandchildren.

Hubert Scherff
RUSSELLVILLE — Hubert Calvin Scherff, 79, of Russellville died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, in his home. He was born Aug. 16, 1924, in Luna, Mo. He was a retired automotive technician, a Navy veteran of World War II and the widower of Opal Scherff.
The body was cremated under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home in Clarksville.
He is survived by two daughters, Marsha Winters of Fresno, Texas, and Jill Keller of Russellville; six sons, Randy Scherff of Fayetteville, Robert Scherff of Russellville, Chris Scherff of Greenwood, Greg Scherff of Pine Bluff, Michael and Jeff Scherff, both of Fort Smith; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Bettye Williams
Bettye Lou Williams, 72, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and was retired from Rheem-Rudd Heating and Air.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Nixon cemetery in Charleston under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She was survived by her husband, Charles; a daughter, Veronica Williams of Fort Smith; two sons, Kenneth Williams of Tokyo, Japan, and Eric Wiliams of Boston; a sister, Carolyn Cary of Long Beach, Calif.; two brothers, Charles Cherry of Muskogee, Okla., and Priestly Cherry Jr. of Fort Smith; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Leo Good, Mark, Jesse and Robert Ferguson, George Williams Sr., John Willis and Louis Jones.
