Inice Ballard Durham, 84, of Fort Smith passed away Thursday, April 1, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Downey, Calif., while living there for 48 years. After moving to Fort Smith she became a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Smith and graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1938.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Ed, Bill, J.T. and Don Stites, Phillip and Gary Watkins, Dick Weaver, Jess Weaver III and Chris Glasco.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Girls Shelter of Fort Smith, 2600 Raleigh St., Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Rex L. Bain
Rex L. Bain, 83, of Joplin, Mo., died Thursday, April 1, 2004, in his home. He was a former resident of Van Buren, a member of Rena Road Church of Christ, a life member of the American Legion and an Army veteran of World War II.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith with military honors under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Bain of the home; three daughters, Janice Heinz of Burlington, Iowa, Sue Flynn of Salado, Texas, and Carla Jones of Nevada, Mo.; four sons, Daymon Barton of Vinita, Okla., Roy Bain of Redlands, Calif., Roger Bain of Nevada, Mo., and Jim Keffer of Walker, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mary L. Bogner
Mary L. Bogner, 66, of Fort Smith took Jesus’ hand on Thursday, April 1, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born July 18, 1937, in Tupelo, Miss., the daughter of the late Dewey and Flora Thomas. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a loving friend to everyone that had the privilege of knowing her. She retired as director of Fort Smith Hope Center, where she touched the lives of many handicapped adults, and was manager of the Tourist Information Center in Dora and a member of Windsor Park Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Ralph of the home; a daughter, Mary Theresa English of Van Buren; a son, Randy Earl English of American Samoa; two sisters, Faye Rudy of Melrose, Fla. and Judy Ballard of Dyer; a brother, Dewey Thomas Jr. of Puxaco, Mo.; six grandchildren, Farrah Shoppach and Chanelle Smith, both of Fort Smith, and Garette, Aaron, Austin and Noah English, all of American Samoa; and one great-grandchild, Savannah Shoppach of Fort Smith. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith. Pallbearers will be L.C. Thomas, Marvin English, James Dicus, Chuck Westcott, Wayne Newell and Ronnie Shoppach. Honorary pallbearers will be B.G. Hendrix, John Ayers, J.C. Hubbs, DVM, and Bill Engles. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers may be sent to Lewis Funeral Chapel, or memorial contributions may be sent to Women’s Crisis Center, 401 Lexington Ave., Fort Smith.

Carrie Hawk
Carrie Lawana Hawk, 90, of Fort Smith died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in her home. She was a homemaker, a member of the Church of Christ, a lifetime member of PTA and a Girl Scouts troop leader.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Quentin; three daughters, Freddi Turcotte of Tecumseh, Mich., Nanci Wheeler of Skiatook, Okla., and Joyce Price of Jacksonville; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Curtis Fox
CHARLESTON — Curtis Fox, 70, of Charleston died Sunday, April 4, 2004, in Charleston. He was born June 29, 1933, in Paris. He was a truck driver for Master Made Inc.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Caulksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial at Caulksville cemetery under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Mozelle; two daughters, Deborah Claborn of Panama and Connie Rogers of Paris; two sons, Curtis E. Fox of Flower Mound, Texas, and Robert Fox of Covina, Calif.; three sisters, Christine Black of Paris, Margie Kirchner of New Blaine and Marine Sullivan of Virginia Beach, Va.; four brothers, Damon Fox of Ratcliff, J.T. Fox of Sun City, Ariz., Wayne Fox of Seattle and Chester Fox of Ardmore, Okla.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Claborn, Daniel and David Rogers, Jason Fox, Paul Culwell and Robbie Christenberry.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

MAGAZINE — Brian Keith Williams, 37, of Magazine died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Aug. 27, 1966, in Paris. He was disabled and attended the Assembly of God in Blue Mountain.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brearley cemetery in Dardanelle under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Garland and Anna Williams of Ozark; his mother and stepfather, Betty and Roy Hutchins of Blue Mountain; three sisters, Brenda Hudson of Clarksville and Karen Yeager and Harlene Thompson, both of Dardanelle; four brothers, Mike Williams of Boulder City, Nev., Rickey Williams of Texas and Ronnie and Larry Williams, both of Magazine.
Pallbearers will be Mike, Rickey, Ronnie and Larry Williams, Ronnie and Terry Fannon and Fred Scott.

Flora Smith
Flora Jocelyn Smith, 93, of Van Buren died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in her home. She was born March 27, 1911, in Greenwood. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Van Buren, where she served as church secretary for 20 years. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Van Buren Public Library, which later became a part-time position. She was the widow of Virgil Smith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren.
She is survived by a sister, Nealy Richards of Van Buren; a brother, Sylvester Scales of Van Buren; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John, Michael, Patrick, Kevin and Kyle Smith, Chris Moquett and Mitchell Blythe.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Women’s Adult 7 Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church.

Roger Watkins
NICUT — Roger Ed Watkins, 53, of Nicut died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in Sallisaw. He was a truck driver for Two States Petroleum and the Fort Smith Sanitation Department, was a maintenance worker for 13 years at Baldor Electric and was a member of New Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Belfone School Gym with burial at Seabolt cemetery north of Muldrow under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; three daughters, Tammy Watkins of Sallisaw, Grace Watkins of Nicut and Betty Tatum of Muldrow; a son, Jimmy Watkins of Fort Smith; a sister, Shirley Coughran of Muldrow; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Don Edwards, Bryce and Bryan Hobbs, George and Tommy Byrd, Bob Anglen and James Armer.
The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Nicut Fire Department.

Robert L. Jones Jr.
Robert L. Jones Jr., 81, of Fort Smith passed away Thursday, April 1, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, and survived by his wife, Caroline; two sons, Robert L. Jones III and his fiancee, Cheryl Cannon and Kenny B. Jones and his wife, Rhonda of Fort Smith; two stepsons, Jim Phillips and his wife, Cynthia of Denver and Bob Phillips and his wife, Robin of Chickasha, Okla.; one brother, Dan Jones and his wife, Martha of Magazine; three grandchildren, Michelle Kooi of Loveland, Colo., David Jones of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Olivia Jones of Fort Smith; three step-grandchildren, Connor and Ryan Phillips of Denver and Robbie Crosier of Chickasha, Okla.; and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Kooi and Sage Kooi.
Bob graduated from Magazine High School in Magazine in 1938, graduated from Hendrix College in Conway with a bachelor of arts degree in 1942, was on the track team and debate team at Hendrix and won the state debate championship in 1942, graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville in 1948 with L.L.B. degree with honors, and was editor of the Arkansas Law Review 1947-48.
He served in the Army from 1943 until 1946, including 27 months in the European Theater of Operations in World War II and was commissioned second lieutenant, Infantry in Europe; recalled to active service during the Korean War and served 21 months as a legal officer (First Lieutenant JAGC, USAR) from 1950-52.
He was continuously engaged in the private practice of law in Fort Smith since 1948 with the exception of serving as a special assistant, U.S. attorney in 1950. He was a partner in the firm of Shaw, Jones & Shaw, Fort Smith from 1952-70 and since 1970 has been senior partner in the law firm of Jones, Jackson & Moll PLC (formerly Jones, Gilbreath & Jones).
Bob was a member of the National Conference of Bar Presidents, Fellow, American College of Trial Lawyers. He was past president of the Sebastian County Bar Association, past Arkansas Bar Foundation and past president of Arkansas Bar Association. He served as a member of the Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on Jury Instructions from its creation in 1962-99, served as special associate justice, Arkansas Supreme Court, in 1970, awarded the Arkansas Bar Association’s Outstanding Lawyer of the Year Award in 1978, the Arkansas Association of Defense Counsel, Outstanding Defense Attorney Award in 1992. He was listed in the publication “Best Lawyers in America” in civil trial practice in every issue of the publication since its inception; 1999 American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the 8th Judicial Circuit. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith, taught Builders Sunday school class for more than 55 years, served on the administrative board of First United Methodist Church for many years and as chairman from 1968-70.
Bob was currently a life member of the advisory board of the Salvation Army in Fort Smith, having been a member for approximately 30 years and served as chairman in 1973; has been active in scouting as Cubmaster, Assistant Scout Master, Institutional Representative and Merit Badge Counselor, and as a member of the board of Westark Area Council of Boy Scouts of America; past president of the Girl’s Shelter; president of Alumni Association of Hendrix College 1968-69; president of Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith 1980-81; in 1997 he was awarded the Salvation Army’s “Others” award in recognition of community service.
Services will be held 11 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith with interment at Roselawn cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Todd Kooi, David Jones, Danny Jones, Robert Jones, Arvid Bean, Ryan Bean, Randy Jackson and Mark Moll. Honorary pallbearers will be the Builders Sunday school class, Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, Sebastian County Bar Association and Arkansas Bar Association, Sebastian County Bar Association and Arkansas Bar Association.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 N. 15th St., Fort Smith AR 72901, or the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 292, Fort Smith, AR 72902.

Mary Kathryn Pile
Mary Kathryn Pile, 87, of Peter Pender died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in Paris. She was born Sept. 26, 1916, in Charleston to Luther Powell and Nellie Fleming Powell. She retired after 36 years teaching school at Branch and County line and was a member of Branch First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cline C. Pile.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Branch First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Hobbs officiating. Burial will be at Garden of Memories cemetery in Charleston under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen Pile of Granville, Ohio, and Philip Pile of Patchoque, N.Y.; two sisters, Virginia Holt of Ozark and Frances Schilling of Jackson, Miss.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James, Michael, Christopher, Taylor and Seldon Pile and Kevin Larsen.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Judy Gay Sudduth
Judy Gay Sudduth, 55, of Fort Smith died Friday, April 2, 2004, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren.
She is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Morris of Arkoma and Sheila Psikal of Van Buren; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Juanita Katherine Davis Wright
Juanita Katherine Davis Wright, 75, of Paris died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Perry Davis and Bessie Alvaro Phillips Davis. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Paris, loved her kids and grandkids, gardening, athletic events and of course, Bingo.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. today at First Christian Church in Paris with burial at 1 p.m. at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by her husband, William J. “Popeye” Wright of Paris; a daughter, Joy Wright of Greenwood; two sons, Bill Wright of Paris and Jim Wright of Sheridan; a sister, Mellonee Bennett of Ozark; a brother, Gene Davis of Overton, Texas; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Phillip Wright, Charlie Wright, Rayfield Wright, Cody Wright, McKenzie Wright and Josh Martine.

Alene Brewer
Alene Brewer, 73, of Mulberry died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in Van Buren. She was born July 18, 1930, in Clayton, Okla., to Carl Crandell and Velma Chronister. She was a homemaker and preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Jody Brewer.
Graveside service was held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Brewer cemetery in Fern under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Mulberry. Officiating the service was the Rev. Marion Wood.
She is survived by a daughter, Velma Williams of Mountainburg; four sons, Larry Brewer of Mulberry, Joe David Brewer of Mountainburg, Carl Brewer of Mulberry, and Thomas Brewer of Mountainburg; her mother, Velma Chronister; four sisters, Shirley Wyers of Mulberry, Eular Bell Langley of Mulberry, Mary Sue Bascue of Ozark, and Roxie Ann Mayner of Mulberry; four brothers, Carl Edward Crandell of Broken Arrow, Okla., Earl Dale Crandel of Mulberry, Arthur Ray Crandell of Van Buren and Robert Lee Crandell of Mulberry; 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Brewer, David Brewer, Roy Joe Williams, Jason Davis, William Brewer and Joseph E. “Bud” Brewer.
