Milus William Bullington
Milus William Bullington, husband of 62 years to Maurene Florence Bullington, father to five sons and five daughters-in-law, grandfather to 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many other “family” members, died Friday, April 16, 2004.
He was born Oct. 17, 1913, in Charleston where he and Maurene grew up and lived.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Charleston. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Smith Mortuary on Wednesday, April 21, 2004.
He and Maurene raised five boys — Bill, Bob, Ed, Dan and John — by whom they finally got five daughters (in-law) — Evelyn, Jackie, Karen, Jane and Lenora.
Although Dad was offered a scholarship to play “pulling guard” at the University of Arkansas, he and Mother started their family and Dad started a work career that included farming, dairy, trucking, retail lumber yard, carpentry, remodeling and repair, and ended as a United Mine worker in the coal mines northeast of Charleston. He and Mother were not able to earn college degrees but both highly valued education and were very proud of their children’s and other family members’ educational successes. Although Dad worked hard, long hours, he always had time for his family and friends and was ever ready with a funny story or joke to make them laugh and feel better. You could not feel “down” around the mischievous grin and blue eyes that reflected the pure loving spirit that filled Dad, Grandpop, the most precious father-in-law, and truest of friends. Being in his presence and in his home was the most secure, comforting feeling imaginable. He will be very missed.
Dad was active in Charleston’s First Baptist Church where he served as deacon, chairman of deacons, choir member, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, BTU director; custodian, etc. He and Mother helped support several kids at the Arkansas Baptist Children’s Home in Monticello. Also, they both contributed to the civic community by working numerous elections.
Dad’s earthly riches included those listed above along with the many extended family and friends he enjoyed and treasured, including a trail of friends wherever life’s experiences took him. Dad especially enjoyed family gatherings, sharing memories, reminiscing, telling stories and jokes, Mother’s piano playing and family and friends singing, his work, church and community friends.

George Conley
George Conley, 77, of Fort Smith, passed away April 18, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was born May 22, 1926, in Long, Okla. He was a retired service station owner and independent truck driver. He worked for Mercury Motors and he was a dump truck driver. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, past commander and member of the Sebastian County Mounted Patrol, and member of First Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Esther Gothard Conley; his parents, W.E. Conley and Thenia Stewart Conley; four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randall Ray and Bro. Bill Sagely officiating with burial at Speegle cemetery in Bloomer under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He is survived by one daughter, Robin Byars and husband Mark of Fulton, Ky.; two sons, Mike Conley and wife Pauline of Van Buren, and Joseph Conley of Fort Smith; a sister, Rosie Moon and husband Jim of Tulsa; three grandchildren, Nathan, Jacque and Mikayla Conley, all of Van Buren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tim and Tommy Bufkin, Billy George Conley, Dale Conley, Tom Gamble and Robert Jones.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Billy Shropshire
Billy Shropshire, 56, of Fort Smith died Saturday, April 17, 2004, in Oklahoma City. He was born July 3, 1947, in Sallisaw and was a mill worker for Whirlpool Corp. for 27 years. He was a member of the Assembly of God faith and a Vietname War veteran of the Air Force. He was a 1965 graduate of Sallisaw High School and received his associate’s degree at Connors State College. He was a private pilot and motorcycle enthusiast.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Brushy cemetery in Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa; two sons, Jefferey Shropshire and wife Carolyn of Fort Smith, and Jaren Shropshire of Missouri; two stepsons, Robbie Dampier and Chass Ward, both of Fort Smith; four grandchildren; his mother, Audrey Blankenship of Sallisaw; three brothers, Jimmy and Randy Shropshire, both of Sallisaw, and Tommy Shropshire of Gore; a sister, Sandy Kay Lowe of Sallisaw; an aunt, Cletis Rape of Sallisaw; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Gonzales, Jack Armstrong, Joe Parsons, Ed Jones, Jim Gaston and Bob Koenig.
Honorary pallbearers will be co-workers from Whirlpool.
The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Berniece Puffer
Berniece Puffer, 94, of Fort Smith died Monday, April 19, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker and a Protestant.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Williamson of Fort Smith; a son, Richard Charles Puffer of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Harline Bullington
BARLING — Harline Bullington, 85, of Barling died Saturday, April 17, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a retired employee of J.C. Penney Co. and a member of the First Baptist Church of Barling.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Barling with burial at Steephill cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a stepbrother, Elmer Nye of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Alan and Kenny Wray, Donnie, Justin and Brandon Kramer and Russell Jones.

Libby Perkins
MENA — Libby Heavener Perkins, 84, of Mena died Monday, April 19, 2004, in Mena.
Born Jan. 13, 1920 in Mansfield, she retired after 25 years as a secretary to the superintendent of Sylvan Union School in Modesto, Calif. She was a member of the Modesto Orangeburg Avenue Freewill Baptist Church in Modesto.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Liberty cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Lynda Alatorre of Texarkana; a son, Larry Perkins of Phoenix; a sister, Pat Hendricks of Mena; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Marshall Price
CLARKSVILLE — Marshall Arden Price, 87, of Clarksville died Friday, April 16, 2004, in Clarksville. He was retired from British Petroleum, He was an Episcopalian, attended Church of the Advent and was a decorated World War II Army veteran.
Memorial service will be 4 p.m. today in the Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville.
He is survived by his wife, Jerry; two sons, Eric Price of Waco, Texas, and Michael Price of Honolulu; and a brother, Les Price of Cape Coral, Fla.

Guy Lee Haralson, 34, of Fort Smith died Sunday, April 18, 2004, in a local hospital. He was employed by Moll Plastic.

He is survived by his mother, Sharon Haralson of Fort Smith.

Swannie Ingram
MENA — Swannie Lenora Ingram, 69, of Mena, formerly of Sawyer, Okla., died Sunday, April 18, 2004, in Hot Springs.
Born Dec. 8, 1934 in Fort Towson, Okla., she was a seamstress for the Wells Lamont Glove Factory in Hugo, Okla. She attended Concord Baptist Church in Ink and was a member of the Sawyer Baptist Church in Sawyer.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Fort Towson cemetery in Fort Towson.
She is survived by her husband, B.H. Ingram; two sons, Johnny Palmer of Mena and Paddy Palmer of Caddo Gap; a sister, Mary Francis French of Hugo; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marie Bernard
Marie Bernard, 89, of Van Buren died Sunday, April 18, 2004, in a local hospital. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church, Uniontown Extension Homemakers Club and a former member of the Bible Study Fellowship. She was the retired postmaster of the Uniontown Post Office after 30 years of service and was the widow of M.H. “Manie” Bernard.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy Oliver of Van Buren, Marlene Denny of Collinsville, Okla., and Peggy Baker of Conroe, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Robert Tilghman
HUNTINGTON — Robert Miles Tilghman, 82, of Huntington died Saturday, April 17, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a retired brake repairman.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Mansfield.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; two daughters, Shannon Jachera of Huntington and Dorothy Zohalla of Mansfield; a brother, Bill Clark of Mansfield; and six grandchildren.
Tish Rogers
BOLES — Tish Rogers, 91, of Boles died Monday, April 19, 2004, in a Waldron nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of Boles Freewill Baptist Church. She was the widow of Elmer Rogers.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Boles Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Chant cemetery in Y City under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
She is survived by two sons, Max Rogers of Midlothian, Texas, and Gordon Rogers of Arlington, Texas; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

TULSA — Maxine Tabor Parrish, 79, of Tulsa died Monday, April 19, 2004, in a local nursing home. She was a retired executive secretary for American Oil Company in Tulsa.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Shores, Chuck and Barry Tabor, Tommy and Jay Thompson and Dave Schumaker.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Maggie Ellis
Maggie Ellis, 81, of Fort Smith died Sunday, April 18, 2004, in Van Buren. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Roland City cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Sidney; four daughters, Charlotte Gant of Arkoma, Jackie Spier of Roland and Judy Altstatt and Wynema Hice, both of Van Buren; two sons, Gary Ellis of Alma and David Ellis of Roland; a brother, Leroy English of Roland; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tim Aldridge, Robert Speir Jr., Jessie Alstatt Jr., David McKinney, Stonny Lenginton, Jeff Johnson and James Looper.
The family will visit with friends following the burial at the Waylon Jones Complex on Ranger Boulevard in Roland.
