Josie Spencer Peters
Josie Spencer Peters, 92, of Montrose, Colo., died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, in Montrose. She attended school in Mountainburg. She was an expert seamstress, making dresses for daughters and later granddaughters. She particularly enjoyed making quilts of all types and giving them away to family members. She lived at various locations in Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico and Colorado, but always considered Arkansas to be her home. After her husband’s retirement from the Corps of Engineers, they worked with foster children in homes in Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. Her last years after her husband’s passing in 1997 were spent in Spring Creek Chalet in Montrose. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Adah Spencer; her husband, James S. Peters; a daughter, Neva Richard; and three brothers.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church in Alma with burial at Peters cemetery near Mountainburg under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by a daughter, Sue Smith of Hurst, Texas; a son, James Peters Jr. and his wife Sue of Montrose; a sister, Grace Peters of Fort Smith; a brother, Bert Spencer of Avella, Pa.; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402.

Abygail Olivia Scott Rhodes
Abygail Olivia Scott Rhodes, infant daughter of Jessica Scott of Fort Smith and Jeremy Rhodes of Fort Smith, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, in her home.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Kearagan Rhodes of Fort Smith; maternal grandparents, Marianne Steinbock of Fort Smith, Randy Scott of Tucson, Ariz.; paternal grandparents, Glenda Nunn of Fort Smith and Charles Nunn of Fort Smith; maternal great-grandparents, Bea and Donald Scott of Bakersfield, Calif.; paternal great-grandparents, Deana Scott of Pocola and Rex Scott of Muldrow.

Hilda Jean Watkins
Hilda Jean Watkins, 79, of Van Buren died Friday, May 28, 2004, in a local hospital. She went to be with her Lord May, 28, 2004. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She had numerous friends she enjoyed so much. She was a homemaker, a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the Van Buren Garden Gate Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Eugene Watkins.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Ocker Memorial Chapel with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Sparkman and her husband, Darral, of Van Buren; two sisters, Myra Rowe and Meryle Riggs, both of Van Buren; a brother, Jerry Williams and his wife, Donna, of Van Buren; a granddaughter, Tiffiny Marshall and her husband, Heath, of Van Buren; a great-grandson, Case Eugene Marshall of Van Buren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Gary Watkins, Terry Watkins, Mickey Watkins, Travis Watkins, Jay Williams and Terry Cockrum.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Red Hat Society and the Van Buren Garden Gate Club.
The family will visit with friends Sunday, May 30, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home, 700 Jefferson St. in Van Buren.

Ruby Rambur
ALTUS — Ruby E. Brown Rambur, 67, of Altus died Thursday, May 27, 2004, in Van Buren. She was a registered nurse and a Baptist.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Highland cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by two daughters, Gina Oberste of Clarksville and Lanesa Cordell of Altus; two sisters, Dorothy Rofkahr and Levonia Williamson, both of Altus; three brothers, Harold Brown of Altus, Charles and J.D. Brown, both of Ozark; and four grandchildren.

Ralph Gordon
Ralph H. Gordon, 76, of Van Buren died Friday, May 28, 2004, in his home.
There will be no service. Cremation under the direction of Ocker Funeral home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; a sister, Jean Blackwell of Tallahassee, Fla.; and a brother, Jeff Gordon of Tampa, Fla.

Worley Ellerbee
OZARK — Worley Wayne Ellerbee, 68, of Ozark died Thursday, May 27, 2004, in his home. He was born Dec. 29, 1935, in Kissimmee, Fla. He was a truck driver.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Freedom of Faith Tabernacle under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
He is survived by a companion, Jeanie Ellerbee of Ozark; a daughter, Cynthia Roberts of Ozark; a son, James Ellerbee of Ozark; a stepson, Bobby Purvis Jr. of Florida; a sister, Lillian Travis of Ozark; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Luster Myers
MAYFLOWER — Luster Richard Myers of Mayflower died Friday, May 28, 2004, in Ozark. He was born July 18, 1915, in Calico Rock. He was a Marine veteran of World War II.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda Jacobs of Clarksville; a son, Richard Myers of Little Rock; a brother, Raymond Myers of Springfield, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

John Tepfer
KEOTA, Okla. — John Glen Tepfer of Keota, Okla., died Friday, May 28, 2004, in Keota. He was an Army veteran and a member of Eastwood Assembly of God in Stigler.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Keota cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; three daughters, Shannon Floyd of Van Buren, Brandy Sweeten of Fort Smith and Brooke Patton of Keota; a son, Daniel Patton of Keota; his mother, Nita Tepfer of Midland; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Brown, Daniel Patton, Ernest Medley, Mitchell Gossett and Kevin VanMeter.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to noon today.

John Andrew “Andy” Hunt
John Andrew “Andy” Hunt, 29, born Jan. 2, 1975, in Oklahoma City, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, in Fort Smith. Andy attended schools in Midwest City, Okla. He graduated from high school and attended Westark College in Fort Smith. In his short life, Andy gave his loved ones a beautiful gift each day, a hug, a smile or using his knack to force a giggle from the mouth of a melancholy friend. His most beautiful gift, was his daughter, Rhianna. Andy lived for Rhianna; she was his heart, his soul, his world. Without her, his sun simply wouldn’t rise. Andy, we miss you with every ounce of our being, and love you more than we can express. Survivors include his mother, Carla Campbell; siblings, Amanda and Robert Hunt; grandmother, Linda Rosser; daughter, Rhianna Hunt; Rhianna’s mother, Rinda Hunt of Oklahoma City; fiancee, Amber Carter of Fort Smith; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends. Preceded in death by grandfather, Curtis E. Rosser; and uncles, Curtis A. Rosser and Larry D. Hunt. Services were held May 12 at Williams Memorial Nazarene Church in Bethany, Okla. Interment was Saturday, May 15, in Arkansas.

Helen L. Bridges
Helen L. Bridges departed this life on Saturday, May 29, 2004, to join in Christ her husband, Shanon, her sons, Timothy and Steven, her four brothers, three sisters, parents and other departed friends and relatives.
She left behind beautiful memories with her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanie and Evan Fleming; a granddaughter and her spouse, Shanna and Robert Esquivel, her grandson, David Fleming, and many nieces and nephews. She helped her husband in their real estate and building business and spent many years working as an interior decorator. Faith in God’s goodness guided her life. She had been a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church since 1930. While her husband was alive, she enjoyed entertaining in their home, her flowers and cooking. She belonged to Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi, Altar Guild, and Junior Service League. She was known as an elegant lady and a gracious hostess. She recently was spending time with new friends at Butterfield Place. Burial service will be Thursday, June 3 at 10 a.m. at Roselawn cemetery with a memorial service following at St. Luke Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church in Fort Smith.

Sarah Jane Bissell
Sarah Jane Bissell, 91, of Fort Smith died Sunday, May 30, 2004, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Schiller Bissell.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Roselawn cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home..
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Ballard of Fort Smith; a grandson, Brandy Ballard and wife, Jana; two granddaughters, Kacie and Kylie Ballard, all of Fort Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ricardo Yelez, Michael Yelez, Gerald Tunnel, Eric Wald and Archie Nelson.

George Henry Fritsche
George Henry Fritsche, 73, passed away Friday, May 28, 2004, in Booneville. He was a member of the Our Lady Of Assumption Catholic Church in Booneville for 40 years, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco with burial at St. Scholastica cemetery near New Blaine under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marge Fritsche; and a sister, Marie Anhalt.
He is survived by two daughters, Audrey Leftwich of Greenwood and Elaine Jones of North Little Rock; three sons, Glen Fritsche and Kenneth Fritsche, both of Greenwood, and David Fritsche of Booneville; two brothers, Joe Fritsche of Scranton and Ben Frietsche of Fort Smith; one sister, Rose Koch of Paris; grandchildren, Erin, Matthew, Allison, Nicholas, Jacob, Lauren Fritsche, Joshua, Brittany Leftwich, Micah, Rachel, Daniel Fritsche, Anthony and John Michael Jones and Tanner and Chandler Fritsche.
Rosary at 6 p.m. and visitation will be held 6:30 p.m. today at the Our Lady Of Assumption Catholic Church in Booneville.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Jones, Joshua Leftwich, Micah Fritsche, Matthew Fritsche, Nicholas Fritsche, Jacob Fritsche, John Michael Jones, Daniel Fritsche and Tanner Fritsche.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to South Logan County Boys and Girls Club, P.O. Box 545, Booneville, AR 72927 or the Our Lady Of Assumption Catholic Church, P.O. Box 298, Booneville, AR 72927.

Charles “Tom” Bader
Charles “Tom” Bader, 71, of Greenwood died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was born in Wichita, Kan., April 10, 1933. He was the owner of Bader Auto Electric in Fort Smith, a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association, bred and raced horses most of his adult life and was a veteran of the Air Force.
Graveside service and interment will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 3, at Liberty cemetery in Greenwood under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sherri Bader of the home; one daughter, Terri Smith and husband, Rusty of Greenwood; two sons, David Bader and wife, Debbie of Greenwood, and Greg Bader and wife, Penny of Fort Smith; eight grandchildren, Chris Bader, Jennifer Bader, Bradley Bader, Cody Bader, Sara Bader, Colt Rogers, Hayden Smith and Garrett Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Paige Bader and Peyton Bader. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles “Randy” Bader; and one grandson, John Thomas Bader.
Stateroom hours will be 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Reeder, Bill Heck, Hershel Cole, Rex Brooks, Clint Crawford, Ken Crawford and Leon Richardson.

Ramona Thomas
Ramona L. Thomas, 72, of Van Buren died Sunday, May 30, 2004, in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 31, 1931, in Mansfield. She was a retired employee of Ward’s Furniture, a former employee of Fondren Construction and a member of Living Word Church in Van Buren.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Hacker of Van Buren; a son, Larry McDaniel of Greenwood; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Living Word Church, 1445 Clyde Cate Road, Van Buren, AR 72956.

Velma Howard
WALDRON — Velma B. Holman Howard, 84, of Waldron died Saturday, May 29, 2004, in Memphis. She was born July 3, 1919, in Idabel, Okla. She graduated from Idabel High School in 1937, was a former employee of the McCurtain County Hospital and was a clerk for the U.S. Forest Service. She organized and taught the first Vacation Bible school at Forest Hill Baptist Church, was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Waldron, was a member and served as an officer in the Waldron Chapter of National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Waldron and the Golden Rule Sunday school class. She was the widow of Alvin Howard.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Forest Hill Baptist Church in Forest Grove community with burial at Forest Hill cemetery under the direction of Norwood-Coffey-Leonard Funeral Home of Idabel, Okla.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Rogers of Memphis; two sons, Marty Howard of Clarksville and Glen Howard of Warwick, R.I.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International or the Forest Hill cemetery Fund, c/o Wayne Clardy, Route 3, Idabel, OK 74745.

Eben Kirkland
CALHOUN, Okla. — Eben Lindsey Kirkland, 83, of Calhoun died Tuesday, June 1, 2004. He was born Aug. 28, 1920, in Shady Point. He served in the Army for 30 years and obtained the highest rank for an enlisted person, command sergeant major. He fought in three wars, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Silver Star for valor, two Bronze Stars, several Purple Hearts, two Combat Infantryman Badges, Airborne Ranger, Jumpmaster, Special Forces, Pathfinder and numerous Foreign Campaign awards. He was a farmer and rancher and was active with Panama Schools.
A service will be for family only, burial of cremains will be at New Hope cemetery in Spiro under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by his wife, Ik; two daughters, Sandy and Vivian of Oklahoma; five sons, Lindsey, Edward and Mike, all of Oklahoma, James and Harry, both of California; a brother, Raymond Kirkland of Calhoun, Okla.; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
