Carl Richmond Jr.
LUFKIN, Texas — Carl G. Richmond Jr., 76, of Lufkin, Texas, died Thursday, July 22, 2004.
He was born Oct. 17, 1927, in Van Buren.
He was retired from Champion International Paper Co. after 19 years as a maintenance supervisor in the Woodlands Division, a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a bachelor of arts degree and attended Oklahoma A&M.
He was a member of Lufkin Masonic Lodge No. 669 A.F. & A.M., the York Rite Bodies, a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner, the Red Cross of Constantine and the Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, and the Lufkin First Baptist Church.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Funeral was held Sunday at Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin, Texas, with burial at Garden of Memories with Masonic rites of Lufkin Masonic Lodge No. 669 A.F. & A.M.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; a son, Mike Richmond of Magnolia; two sisters, Judy Longley of Fort Smith and Linda James of Van Buren; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers were members of Lufkin Masonic Lodge No. 669 A.F. & A.M.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lufkin’s First Baptist Scholarship Fund, 106 E. Bremond, Lufkin, TX 75901.

Leon May
MENA — Leon William May, 79, of Mena died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in his home.
He was born Dec. 20, 1924, in Broken Arrow, Okla.
He worked in a sawmill and was a member of Cherry Hill Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Cherry Hill cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Millie; two daughters, July Rhodes of Cove and Wilma Whisenhunt of Mena; a sister, Wilma Farmer of Mena; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Saxon Siffing
MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Saxon Fink Siffing, 86, of Muskogee, Okla., died Thursday, July 22, 2004, in Tulsa.
She was born March 19, 1918, in Blackgum community.
She was a retired music teacher, taught in Bartlesville, Okla., for 18 years, Oceanside, Calif., for one year, and Salinas, Calif., for 10 years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Gibson, Okla., the Old Fort Club, New Friends Club.
She was a graduate of Vian High School, received an associate degree at Connors State College, a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University, and a master’s from University of Wyoming.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Garden of Memories cemetery in Vian.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon; a son, Terry Siffing of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two sisters, Brookie Maycher of Muskogee, Okla., and Betty Serrot of Houston; a brother, Talmadge Fink of Muskogee, Okla.; and a grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Norman Siffing, Herb Dennis, Keith Stewart, Dave Pyle, John and Colin Fink.

Joan Moore
MENA — Joan Walston Moore, 89, of Mena died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, in her home. She was born April 28, 1915, in Shady.
She was a homemaker and a member of Polk County Humane Society Retired Officers Association and the First Church of Christ Scientist of Boston.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
She is survived by a brother, Iley Walston of Lubec, Maine.
Memorial contributions may be made to Polk County Humane Society.

Linda Cecil
Linda Marlette Cecil, 43, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, in her home.
She was born Feb. 27, 1961, in Steelville, Mo.
A former employee of St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, Health South and Crawford Memorial.
Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Friday at 3629 Macarthur in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Mark; two sons, Timm Palmer and Jesse Goodman III, both of Fort Smith; her parents, Glenn and Faye Palmer of Hartford; two sisters, Kelly Bell of Van Buren and Susan Anderson of Fort Smith; two brothers, Rick Palmer of Greenwood and Allen Palmer of Hartford; and one grandchild.

Wanda Gammell
POTEAU — Wanda Jewel Gammell, 79, of Poteau died Sunday, July 25, 2004, in Poteau. She was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Panama.
She was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, was retired from teaching after 44 years, retired from Pocola Schools in 1989, was a past president of Alpha Delta Kappa Honor Society, and was the first registrar at Poteau Junior College.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Evans & Miller Funeral Chapel of Memories in Poteau.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon McMurray of Poteau; a son, Charles Gammell of Disney, Okla.; a sister, Wilma Lee of Poteau; a brother, Dr. Clay Costner of Fontana, Calif.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

James North
WARRENSBURG, Mo. — James A. “Junior” North, 84, of Warrensburg, Mo., formerly of Kansas City, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004.
He was born Sept. 23, 1919, in Lamar.
He was in the Coast Guard serving during World War II, was an instructor for the Builders & Association Trade, a former president of Local No. 518 Cement Finishers, a member of Lions Club in Claycomo, a Boy Scout leader for Troop No. 360 and a Mason. He was the widower of Ruth North.
Graveside service with military honors will be 2 p.m. Friday at Minnow Creek cemetery in Lamar.
Local arrangements under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
He is survived by his wife, Vera; a daughter, Rita North; two sons, Wesley and Toni; a sister, Doris Brotherton; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at D.W. Newcomer’s & Sons White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone, Mo.
Memorial contributions may be made to Missouri Veterans Home of Warrensburg, 1300 Veterans Road, Warrensburg, MO 64093.

JoAnn Loyd
JoAnn Loyd, 69, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in Fort Smith.
She was a beautician at JoAnn’s Cut and Curl in Cotton Center, Texas, and a member of First Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with graveside service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Abernathy cemetery in Abernathy, Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Don; a daughter, Janet Rhinehart of Fort Smith; a son, Michael Loyd of Lubbock, Texas; and a sister, JoAnna Hoover of Fort Smith.

Ervin Snodgrass
CEDARVILLE — Ervin Snodgrass, 84, of Cedarville died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, in Westville, Okla.
He was a truck driver and the widower of Thelma Snodgrass.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hall cemetery Arbor in Natural Dam under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by three daughters, Lou Cranford of Westville, Okla., Eunice Freeman of Cedarville and Brenda Swaim of Fayetteville; a brother, Eugene Snodgrass of Redding, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Roach, Kyle and Chris Roller and Ronald Snodgrass II.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Teresa Howard
Teresa Jean Howard, 50, of Van Buren died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in a local hospital.
She was a case worker for Department of Human Services.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Rankin cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
She is survived by a daughter, Leah Waters of Ozark; her father, Richard Webb of Booneville; a sister, Joy Terry of Booneville; three brothers, Stewart Webb of Ozark, Steve Webb of Booneville, and Clay Webb of North Carolina; a stepsister, Erda Rainey of Booneville; and two grandchildren.

Grace Thomas
Grace Thomas, 90, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in a local nursing home.
She was a member of Armour Freewill Baptist Church, a retired employee of Levines Department Store and Jones Grocery Store, and the widow of Arl Thomas.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
She is survived by a daugther, Arlene Casey of Clarksville; three sons, Gerald and Charles Thomas, both of Mountainburg, and Wallace Thomas of Alma; a sister, Beulah Rozell of Van Buren; two brothers, Jackie and Jimmy Scott, both of Van Buren; 11 grandchildren; 19 grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Wayne, Chuck, Bryan and Gerald Thomas, Kelly and Billy Casey, Robert Thibault and Harold Walters.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Duane Berryman
VIAN — Duane Berryman, 56, of Vian died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, in Fort Smith.
He was born Jan. 6, 1948, in Greeley, Colo.
He was a retired barber and attended Apostolic Faith Church in Sallisaw.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Akins cemetery northeast of Sallisaw.
He is survived by a daughter, Lindsey; a son, Chance; his mother, Gladys Berryman of Vian; a sister, Normalene Brake of Wichita, Kan.; and a brother, Gary Berryman of Dallas.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The body may be viewed from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Michael Young
Michael Joseph Young, 23, of Van Buren died Monday, July 26, 2004, in a local hospital.
He was a student at University of Arkansas and attended First Assembly of God in Van Buren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by his parents, Michael and Kathy Young of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Richard Smith, Chris Hamilton, Ray Moore, Shane McKinney, Chris Anderson, Casey Estepp, Chad Ewald and Jarod Muck.
