SNELLVILLE, Ga. — Robert Dale Pruitt, 75, of Snellville, formerly of Raytown, Mo. and Fort Smith, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at his home. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of Raytown Christian Church and had been employed by A&P Food Stores.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Greenlawn cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, Tania; one son, Michael of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Cathy Simpson of Chillicothe, Mo.; one sister, Waneta Spear of Parsons, Kan.; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Erin Simpson.
The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Park Lawn Chapel in Kansas City, Mo.
Nellie Bearden
GREENWOOD — Nellie M. Bearden, 95, of Greenwood died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and member of the Armour Freewill Baptist Church. She was the widow of Roy Bearden.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Huntington City cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Christina McBride of Huntington and Fayren Etchison of Fort Smith; two sons, Clifford of Fort Smith and Lonnie of Barling; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mitchell, Anthony and Michael McBride, Brian Melton, Shawn Bearden and Joey Dagagliardi.
The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today.
The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
Paul Garner Jr.
Paul LaRue Garner, Jr., 47, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at his home. He was a Baptist.
Memorial service will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the U.S. National cemetery of Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith. The body was cremated.
He is survived by three daughters, Robyn Witcher of Van Buren and Jessica and Christina Garner, both of Lavaca; one son, Paul Jeremiah Garner of Van Buren; his parents, Paul “Bud” L. Garner Sr. and Ruth Garner of Fort Smith; one sister, Rhoda Sisk of Russellville; two brothers, James Patrick Garner and Allan Shane Garner, both of Fort Smith; and one grandchild, Kirsteen Witcher.
William Grimes
ALTUS — William “Bill” Eugene Grimes, 65, of Altus died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, in Van Buren. He retired as an Army Sergeant and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was the recipient of several commendation medals, was a member of the VFW and was a Pentecostal.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday in Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel of Ozark with burial at Liberty cemetery of Altus.
He is survived by two stepsons, Bo Holder and Marlen Holder, both of Altus; two sisters, Ruby Spencer of Ratcliff and Jane Gourley of Fort Smith; and two brothers, Ray and Jessie, both of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Tim, Chris and Kevin Grimes, Terry Masingale and David and Jerry Howe.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Nurses of Crawford Healthcare and Rehab Center.
The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Norma Sossamon
OZARK — Norma Sossamon, 75, of Ozark died Monday, Aug. 23, 1999, in Fort Smith. She retired from Arkansas Western Gas Company. She was a member of Ozark First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women’s Group, EH Club, Garden Club, Tri-T and Eastern Star. She was the widow of Lester Sossamon.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ozark United Methodist Church with burial at Highland cemetery of Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
She is survived by one daughter; Billie Kay Warrick of Greenwood; one stepdaughter, Gwen Perron of Lake Charles, La.; three stepsons, Bhurle of Joplin, Mo., Bruce of Conway and Dennis of Muldrow; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ozora “Little Sister” Embry, 92, of New Town, near Alma, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was a member of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church where she was superintendent of the Sunday school and communion steward. She was a member of Queen Esther Chapter No. 265, Order of the Eastern Star.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Beal cemetery of New Town under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two nieces, Myrtle Gilliam of Fort Smith and Mable Love of Compton, Calif.; sisters-in-law, great nieces and nephews.

Frank J. Goebel
Frank J. Goebel, 65, of Nashville, Tenn., died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, in Nashville. He was retired from GE after 40 years of service and a manager of international integration for GE Medical Systems, a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Nashville, a graduate of St. Anne’s Academy, St. Boniface Catholic School and the University of Arkansas, and a member of the GE Elfun Society.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. today in Immaculate Conception Church with burial at Calvary cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Roma; two sons, Paul Goebel of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Craig Goebel of Baltimore; parents Fred and Melina Goebel of Fort Smith; two sisters, Mary and Lorena Goebel of Fort Smith; two brothers, Fred Goebel Jr. and wife Ann of Fort Smith and Charles Goebel of Dallas; an aunt, Emily Donelson of Fort Smith; two cousins, Kruger Donelson and wife Arlene of Van Buren and Charlene Moorman of Fort Smith; and many nieces and nephews, friends and family.

Edyth E. Norman, 81, of Fort Smith passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Methodist Village Women’s Auxiliary, Women’s Cancer Support House, League of Women Voters and Pacesetter Group of First United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Fentress Mortuary Chapel with interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Fentress Mortuary. The family will receive friends after the service at 3709 Country Club Road in Fort Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Ridener of Fort Smith; a son, Howard Norman of Fort Smith; one brother, J.R. Pruett of Odessa, Texas; and five grandchildren, Josh and Zeke Norman and Jason and Adam Ridener, all of Fort Smith, and Aynsley Wells of Dayton, Ohio.

Jack Buddy Keeton
Jack Buddy Keeton, 70, of Van Buren passed away Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, in Van Buren. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Van Buren and founding member of The Old Fort Woodcarvers Association. He was retired from Tennessee Foods.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; two daughters, Dana Murray and her husband, Phillip, of Lonoke; and Landy Westphal and her husband, Bennie, of Greenwood; a sister, Betty Stabler of Fort Smith; and four grandchildren, Emily and Caroline Westphal and Hannah and Zack Murray.

Walter Hawkins
BOONEVILLE — Walter F. Hawkins, 89, of Booneville died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, in Booneville.
He was born Sept. 29, 1914, in Charleston.
He was a rancher and a farmer in California for 30 years and a maintenance employee for the Booneville State Sanitorium for 10 years.
He was a member of the Booneville First Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Potts cemetery south of Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys; two stepdaughters, Dixie Trowbridge and Lois Harbour, both of Bonneville; a son, Dale Hawkins of Corning, Calif.; a brother, Lealon Hawkins of Charleston; and a grandchild and two step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John Harbour, Bill Westmoreland, Richard Larimore, David Hawkins, John Thomson and Ron Metcalf.

Frank Rollins, 83, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at a local hospital. He was a retired plumber with local union No. 29, an Army veteran of World War II and the widower of Blanche Rollins.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Huntington cemetery in Huntington.

Candy Pond Ennis, 57, of Fort Smith died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Reynolds Cancer Support House.

Gladys Yowell
Gladys Yowell, 85, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at a local hospital. Born Dec. 9, 1918, in Lincoln, Neb., she was a Methodist.
The body was cremated. Graveside service will be held at a later date at the Wyuka cemetery in Lincoln, Neb. Local arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Parker of Fort Smith, and a step-daughter, Marilyn Logan of Lincoln, Neb.
