Norman B. Long
Norman B. Long, 92, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was a retired public accountant, a member of First United Methodist Church and the Aldersgate Sunday school class, and a member of both National and Arkansas Society of Public Accountants; he was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Infantry where he received the Purple Heart, and he was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Long is survived by a son, Charles N. Long of Fort Smith; a sister, Jeanette McElhanon of Hot Springs; two grandchildren, Chelsea and Jonathan Long; and one great-grandchild. He preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Long.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Roebuck Chapel of First United Methodist Church and burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Aldersgate Sunday school class of First United Methodist Church.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Ted Wayne Gill
Ted Wayne Gill, 68, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, in his home. He was a retired CPA-controller for Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas, an Army veteran and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Gill is preceded in death by his father, George; two brothers, Roger and Bob; and one son, John.
He is survived by his wife, Sally of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Dan Bates of Dallas; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Sarah Gill of Van Buren; his mother, Nadine Burdette of Corpus Christi, Texas; two grandchildren, Shayne Gill of Sallisaw and Brittany Cunningham of Van Buren.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward Mercy Hospice, P.O. Box 17000, Fort Smith, AR 72917.

Mrs. Margaret A. Wilson
Mrs. Margaret A. Wilson was born Oct. 15, 1902, near Clarksville, the daughter of Mr. Daniel Jordan Matthews and Mrs. Sarah Emmaline Roberts Matthews.
Mrs. Wilson graduated from Sallisaw High School in 1920 and received her bachelor of science degree and master’s degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla.
She was married to Mr. Fred B. Wilson on Aug. 23, 1923, in Sallisaw. He preceded her in death on March 13, 1976, in Sallisaw.
She was a teacher at Liberty Grade School for 46 years and was Teacher of the Year in Sequoyah County in 1960. She was a member of the O.E.A., N.E.A., and the Sequoyah County Retired Teachers Association and a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Sallisaw.
She passed this life on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, in Sallisaw after attaining the age of 102 years and 16 days.
She leaves to mourn her passing: a sister, Ruby Mitchell of Everett, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Matthews of Sallisaw; three nieces, Marilyn Matthews of Tulsa, Margaret Jo Snyder of Oklahoma City, and Linda Mann of Sun City West, Ariz.; six nephews, Mike Matthews of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Neal Agent of Sallisaw, Cooper Agent of Ponte Verde, Fla., Ed Mitchell of Hickory, N.C., John Mitchell of Milton-Freewater, Ore., and Jerry Wages of Mounds, Okla.; several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church in Sallisaw with Dr. Lee Woodard and the Rev. James O’Briant officiating. Burial will follow at Sallisaw City cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
Active pallbearers will be E.C. Stewart, Lloyd Jackson, Frank Roark, Bill Fisher, Claude Daniels and Bennie Kiger, with Ray Cramberg serving as alternate.
Viewing will be today from 1 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rosalie B. Stephens
Rosalie B. Stephens, 83, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was retired from the office staff of Shipley Baking Co. and was a member of the North 50th Street Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons, Ben Stephens and Mike Stephens along with his wife Janet, all of Fort Smith; four grandchildren, Michele Walker, Douglas Stephens, Paul Stephens, and Elizabeth Wilson; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Stephens.
Funeral service will Friday at 1 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Roselawn cemetery all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Bret Sparkman, Douglas Stephens, Paul Stephens, Bryant Walker, Bill Bateman and Bill Reather. Honorary pallbearers will be Hiland Dairy employees, the Fort Smith Police Department, Charles Stephens, Bill Pierce and Bill Robertson.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home today from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Doris Hamman
DENTON, Texas — Doris Aline Hamman, 84, of Denton died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, in Denton. She was born April 16, 1920, in Fort Smith. She graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1938 and from TWU with a bachelor of arts degree in child development in 1983, and was working on her doctorate. She was active in starting Child Development & Family Living, Minor Sociology at TWU. She was a foster parent in Fort Smith, Denton and Concerned Citizens of Dallas, and was a vendor for Day Care Association, Fort Worth and Tarrant County C.C.M.S. She owned and operated Hamman Registered Day Care for 25 years and was a member of the Eastern Star. She was the widow of Arlie Hamman.
Funeral will be 2 p.m.. Friday at DeBerry Funeral Chapel in Denton with burial at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Williams of Valley View, Texas, and Cecile Moore of Saint Jo, Texas; three sons, Ronnie Hamman of Bridgeport, Texas, John Hamman of Denton and Brian Hamman of Aubrey, Texas; two sisters, Madora Stouffer and Carolyn Theis, both of Fort Smith; two brothers, Marty and Junie Stouffer, both of Fort Smith; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pauline Campbell
Pauline Marie Campbell, 84, of Fort Smith died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, in a local hospital. She was born June 14, 1920, in Columbus, Ga. She was a retired cafeteria worker for Kimmons High School, a member of South 46th Street Church of Christ and the widow of A.G. Campbell.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Thompson of Stigler, Okla.; a son, Larry Campbell of Edmond, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Ernest Burns
BRANCH — Ernest Burns, 83, of Branch died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, in Charleston. He was a retired steel worker for Monarch Steel in Oakland, Calif., an Army veteran of World War II and the widower of Mildred Burns.
Funeral will be 9 a.m. Friday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by a daughter, Patsy Reagan of Ozark; a sister, Myrtle Graham of California; a brother, Jack Burns of Gold Beach, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Patricia Gibbs
MESA, Ariz. — Patricia Gibbs, 61, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Bonanza, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, Mesa. She was born June 2, 1943, in Wichita, Kan. She was a former employee of the city of Fort Smith and St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, attended Grace Community Church and was active in the American Cancer Society.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Grace Community Church in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Beaver of Bonanza; a son, Michael Harris of Gilbert, Ariz.; a sister, Donna Goodnight of Fort Smith; two brothers, Terry Chamberlain of Van Buren and Danny Chamberlain of Fort Smith; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Goodnight, Randy Bines, Roger and Wesley Beaver, Dallas Bryan and Jody Rogers.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Glafira Valdez
Glafira Valdez, 69, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, in Henryetta, Okla. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fort Smith.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in Chihuahua, Mexico.
She is survived by four daughters, Luisa King, Rita Rodriguez, Maria Franco and Conception Loera, all of Fort Smith; three sons, Martine, Ramon and Salvador Valdez, all of Fort Smith; a brother, Luerencio Valdez of Fort Smith; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

June Adler
June Louise Adler, 92, of Fort Smith, formerly of Deerfield Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004. She was born Aug. 22, 1912, in Lansing, Mich. She was of the Presbyterian faith and a homemaker.
A private memorial service will be held by the family. Arrangements under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband, Orville; two sons, Jerry Adler of Ponte Vedra, Fla., and Richard Adler of Fort Smith; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Blanche Galloway
Blanche “Sis” Galloway, 80, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, in a Fort Smith nursing home. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Aldersgate Sunday school class. She was the widow of Wayne B. Galloway and the former co-owner of Galloway Tire.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Edwards Funeral Home, Roebuck Chapel, in Fort Smith. Burial will be at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Lucile Coleman of Jacksonville, Texas; a son, Dave Galloway of Fort Smith; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Dawson, Ryan Galloway, Bill Sanders, Les Fellner, Ted Skokos and Ed Rauser.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 N. 15th St., Fort Smith AR 72901.

Carrol Chaney
SPRINGDALE — Carrol David Chaney, 65, of Springdale died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, in a Springdale hospital. He was a Navy veteran and an insurance salesman.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
Survivors include his mother; a daughter, Michelle Hoblitzell of Fort Smith; and three grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends at 11 a.m. Friday at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale.

Bate Somphounout
TUCSON, Ariz. — Bate (Lane) Somphounout, 29, of Tucson, Ariz., died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, in Tucson. He was a Buddhist and worked for Imation Manfacturing Co.
Funeral will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith. The body will be cremated.
He is survived by his wife, Dokeo (Karen) of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Starr of the home; a son, Tommy of the home; his mother, Chanh Keooseng of Fort Smith; his father, Khoune Somphounout of Orlando, Fla.; and two sisters, Somchith Thongkham of Springdale and Banhdith Somphounout of Orlando, Fla.

Phongsy Vatthanatham
Phongsy Vatthanatham, 64, of Fort Smith died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a meat cutter for Simmons Poultry and a Buddhist.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith. The body was cremated.
She is survived by three daughters, Sounnantha Keodara of Fort Smith, Souphavady Syhavouth of Woonsocket, R.I., and Phonesavanh Sivongxay of Springdale; four sons, Phaksavanh Vatthanatham and Sitthisak Vatthanatham, both of Fort Smith, Sounthone Vatthanatham of Rochester, N.Y., and Vilayvanh Vatthanatham of Milwaukee; and 17 grandchildren.

Herbert Jones
ALIX — Herbert Jones, 72, of Alix died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, in Clarksville. He was a truck driver, a carpenter and worked in law enforcement.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville. The body will be cremated.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Gillock Jones; two sisters, Roberta Taylor and Barbara Taylor, both of Illinois; a brother, Cecil Taylor of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; and his half brother, Jack Sheperd of Illinois.
