Lendel Dicks
Lendel L. Dicks, 77, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, in Fort Smith. He was born Nov. 19, 1923, in Ozark. He was a Army/Air Force veteran of World War II, a retired boilermaker with General American Tank Company, a member of 50th Street Church of Christ in Fort Smith.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Highland cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene; a son Don Dicks, of Port Orchid, Wash.; a sister, Lena Comeaux of St. Martinville, La.; a brother, Manuel Dicks of Ozark; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Larry Dougan
Larry Wayne Dougan, 50, of Fort Smith died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, in Fort Smith.
The body was cremated under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith. No services are planned.
He is survived by two daughters, Amanda Lynn Williams of Blytheville and Ammy Wilson of Centralia, Ill.; a son, Brian Wayne Dougan of Fort Smith; her mother and stepfather, Bob and Iva Johnson of Hamilton, Ohio; two sisters, Glenda Kremer of Hamilton, Ohio and Sherrie Babcock of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, Rick Dougan of Cabot; and five grandchildren.
Edward Haggard
ALMA — Edward Dale Haggard, 40, of Alma died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in a local hospital. He was a lumber salesman for National Lumber Company.
The body will be cremated under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his father, Rex Haggard of Sallisaw; two sisters, Penny Albritton of Mulberry and Deanna Kay Robertson of Sallisaw; three brothers, Gene Albritton of Haughton, La., Kenny Albritton of Abbott and Roger Dale Haggard of Sallisaw; his paternal grandmother, Beatrice Moore of Fort Smith.
The family will visit with friends from noon to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Simma Somphou
Simma Somphou, 66, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, in a local hospital. He was of the Buddhist faith.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Kang of the home; two children, Boun and Bounhom, both of Fort Smith; a sister, Chanh S. Phabmixay of California; a brother, Bounmy of California; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Boumy Somphou, Sai Vongvone, Moony Ountraseuth, Philaphong Seuasingnouane, Nikeone Ouanevanhtheng and Somsanouk Vilayvanh.
Dorothy Marie Kuykendall Bowman
Dorothy Marie Kuykendall Bowman, 77, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was the widow of Duane Bowman.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith with the Rev. Calvin Kirkendall officiating.
She is survived by a brother, R.V. Kuykendall and wife, Marilyn of Fort Smith; several nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Louise Kuykendall of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Dennis, Mark, Robert, Bobby Kuykendall, Butch Swenson and Nandor Balog.
William C. “Bill” White
William C. “Bill” White, 77, of Hot Springs died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, in a local hospital. He was born July 11, 1924, in Bucoda, Mo. to William Cleveland and Hattie Bell Allen White.
Bill received a Bronze Star after serving during World War II and the 
Korean War. He was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years and a member of Lakeview Assembly of God. Bill was also an instructor for Young American Bowling Alliance, a 2000 Gold Medal winner of Senior Olympics Bowling, an executive board member of Central Bowling Lanes and executive board member of Teen Challenge.
He was predeceased by his son, Billy Allen White, his parents, and two aunts.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ruth White; a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Don Brown; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Sherry White; a daughter-in-law, Sherlyn K. White, all of Hot Springs; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. today in Lakeview Assembly of God. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park with full military honors provided by Thaddeus H. Caraway VFW Post No. 2278 under the direction of Caruth-Hale Funeral Home of Hot Springs.
Pallbearers will be Jim Bates, Bert Botter Jr., Kenneth Nalls, Ted Noble, Wayne Plant and Tony Russell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Roy Puen and nursing staff, Dr. Kim Agee, Dr. Timothy Webb and staff, Sherry Allen, Dovie May, David Gilliam, Carl Herron, Sam Sanders Sunday school class, Advanced Care Nursing staff and Thursday night Mixed Bowling League.

Rebekah Dawn Thompson
Rebekah Dawn Thompson, 19, of Alma died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, in Dyer. She was a employee of Kiddie Kollege and a member of Apostolic Faith Church. She was expecting her first child.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Apostolic Faith Church in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawon cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Chad; her parents, Mark and Barbara McCarville of Fort Smith; three sisters, Kelly, Jessica and Shannon McCarville, all of Fort Smith; a brother, Matthew McCarville of Fort Smith; paternal grandparents, Larry and Wilma McCarville of Murphysboro, Ill.; maternal grandmother, Ethel Walls of Perryville, Mo.; maternal grandfather, Alan Matthews of Minneapolis.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Duff, Johnny Montgomery, Kenni Thompson, Michael McCarville, Justin Downey, Brian and Donald Fittin.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

B. Owen Oslin
After a lengthy illness, B. Owen Oslin of Springdale entered into heavenly rest on Nov. 14. He was born May 1, 1924 to parents, William and Elizabeth Corbel Oslin in Hominy, Okla., where he grew up. He graduated from Hominy High School as valedictorian and Senior Class president. He attended college at Southwestern Bible College, Phillips University and Dallas Theological Seminary where he earned his Doctor of Theology degree. He preached his first sermon in 1939. In 1948, B. Oslin accepted the invitation to pastor Evangel Temple in Fort Smith where he faithfully ministered for twenty years and the church grew to be one of the largest in the state. A loving pastor/shepard in the truest sense, he tenderly held his parishioners in his arms at their request, as they lay dying. Bertie, his housekeeper for 20 years, whispered in his ear on her deathbed, “Brother Oslin, you lit a flame in my heart long ago and that flame has never gone out”. He pioneered Christian Television in 1952 on local Channel 5 with live weekly telecast until 1968. He was very active in many civic, governmental and religious organizations in Fort Smith, as well as the state of Arkansas. He was guest lecturer at a great number of colleges and universities in the United States. B. Oslin was in demand as speaker at camp meetings, denominational churches, conferences and crusades, both in America and in foreign countries. He also served as chairman and member of various secular and ministry boards, giving strong leadership. From a tender age, throughout a life of service, always compassionate to the needy friend or stranger wherever they met, defended, clothed and sheltered them, gave food and slipped money into their hands. He mentored many young ministers and musicians in their careers. B. Oslin founded Christian Centers International in 1968, a Ministerial Fellowship for ministers, churches and organizations. He served as president until June 2000, when he was permanently honored as Founder/President Emeritus. During the last 20 years, B. Oslin and Barbara, his wife who survives him, traveled together in Missionary Evangelism in 42 states and 15 foreign countries, logging thousands of air and cross-country miles. Their last major project was establishing churches and ministries in Russia. He leave five children, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one sister, Fran Johnson of Sacramento, Calif., a host of loyal friends throughout the land.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in Christian Life Cathedral in Fayetteville. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oak cemetery in Fort Smith. Public visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Nelson’s Funeral Home in Fayetteville and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.

MENA — Jessie M. Tudor, 89, of Mena died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, in Mena. She was born May 8, 1912, in Bokohomo, Okla. She was a homemaker and a member of Primitive Baptist Church in Cove.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Hall Funeral Service Memorial Chapel in Mena with burial at Board Camp cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Ella B. Weast of Ruskin, Fla.; three sons, Marion Franklin Tudor of Orr City, Texas, Noah Ray Tudor of Memphis, Tenn., and Gary Lee Tudor of Mena; a sister, Lidie Stockton of Santa Paula, Calif.; two brothers, Goldie Reynolds of Santa Paula, Calif., and Lester Reynolds of Norman, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Martha Knapp
ROGERS — Martha Doris Neislar Knapp, 81, of Rogers, formerly of Springfield, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, in her home. She was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Fort Smith. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Rogers and Order of the Eastern Star.
Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Hands of Springfield, Mo.; three sons, William Knapp of Rogers, Ernest Knapp of Fort Smith, and Dennis Knapp of Stillwell, Okla.; several grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

MENA — Joyce L. Kelton, 66, of Mena, formerly of Forney, Texas, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, in her home. She was born Feb. 17, 1935, in Blum, Texas. She was retired from Sears where she worked in retail sales and attended the Church of Christ.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in Hall Funeral Service Memorial Chapel in Mena with burial at Concord cemetery.
She is survived by two sons, Butch Kelton of Waco, Texas, and Tim Kelton of Mena; three sisters, Wilma Jones of Seattle, Pat Howard of Las Vegas, and Gwen Jones of Alabama; four brothers, Wayne and Gene Seiber, both of Gun Barrell City, Texas, James Seiber of San Antonio and Dean Seiber of Fort Worth, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Eugene Snow
DENNING — Eugene Snow, 75, of Denning died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, in his home. He was born Sept. 11, 1925, in Lamar. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and real estate salesman.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Greenwood cemetery in Altus under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
He is survived by three sons, David Snow of Seal Beach, Calif., Larry Snow of Anaheim, Calif., and Tom Snow of Lakewood, Calif.; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
James Swimmer Sr.
GORE — James Edward Swimmer Sr., 56, of Gore died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, in Sallisaw. He was a 1963 graduate of Gore High School, an Air Force veteran of the Vietname War, a school bus driver for Gum Springs School for 28 years and two years at Gore Schools, and was a Baptist.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Gore High School Gymnasium with burial at Swimmer Family cemetery in Gum Springs under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Gore.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; three daughters, Kathy Laymon, Karen Cantrell, and Jennifer Pennington, all of Gore; a son, James Edward Swimmer Jr. of Gore; two brothers, Vergial Swimmer of Gore, and Danny Swimmer of LeGrange, Ga.; and 10 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Paul Byrd, Justin Mullens, Chris and Casey Laymon, Richard Mosley and Townsil Lane.

Vola Brison
LAKE CHARLES, La. — Vola Brison, 71, of Lake Charles, La., formerly of Ozark, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, in Lake Charles. She was the widow of William Bill Brison.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel of Ozark with burial at Mount View cemetery in Ozark.
She is survived by two brothers, Robert Don and George Nichols, both of Ozark.
Cleatous Johnston
SCRANTON — Cleatous T. Johnston, 85, of Scranton died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, in Paris. He was a coal miner, owner and operator of a gas station, and a farmer. He was the widower of Lorene Mabry Johnston.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris with burial at McKendree cemetery in Subiaco.
He is survived by two daughters, Ann Newton of Fort Smith, and Wanda Hensley of West Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Tommy Johnston of Scranton, and Roger Johnston of Lake Jackson, Texas; a sister, Robie Permenter of Vilonia; seven brothers, Robert, Alfred, Aaron, Charles and Bob Johnson, all of Elaine, Hollis Johnston of West Helena, and Curtis Johnston of Bastrop, La.; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Scott, William, Roger and Tommy Johnston, Mel Hensley and John Newton.
