PARIS — Mary L. Finney, 59, of Paris died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, in Paris. She was a home health aide with the Logan County Health Department.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Lighthouse Worship Center in Paris with burial at Gray Rock cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary and Beverly Finney, and Marie Ellingburg, all of Paris; three sons, Stanley Bates of Fayetteville, Leon Cummins of Atkins and Anthony Cummins of Charleston; 10 sisters, Lois Thompson and Carolyn Lewis, both of Gray Rock, Glenda Bates, Vanessa Ellingburg, Ester and Joanna Bates, all of Paris, Peggy Howard of Finley, Ohio, Theresa Bates of Peoria, Ill., Veronica Galzalmez and Karen Bates, both of Fort Smith; two brothers, Robert and Timmy Bates, both of Gray Rock; and 14 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Robert and Shawn Bates, Jack Lewis, Freddie Thompson, Jason Ellingburg and Rob Poole.
Billy Ellis
Billy J. Ellis, 77, of Fort Smith died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was retired from Dixie Cup and was in the Navy.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Cliff Baptist Church in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; two daughters, Melissa Sweeney of Alma and Susan Johnson of Baton Rouge, La.; two sisters, Mary Hillhouse of Fort Smith and Catherine Beauchamp of California; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Darrel Taylor, Jimmy Cox, Larry Scheer, Troy Douglas, Gerald Geren and Bill Inkelbarger.

LAMAR — Gayland Cecil McCarley, 76, of Lamar died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, in Clarksville. He was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Lamar.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Minnow Creek cemetery in Lamar.
Pallbearers will be Threon Rowbotham, Joe and Keith McCarley, Luke Leeds, Steven Williams and Shawn Hughes.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

VANDERVOORT — Dale Dewayne Rhodes, 54, of Vandervoort died Wednesday, Nov. 24. 2004, in Mena. He was born April 11, 1950, in Vandervoort. He was a builder and of the Baptist faith.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Vandervoort First Baptist Church with burial at Witherspoon cemetery in Vandervoort under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Clausen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Dale Rhodes Jr. of Vandervoort; a sister, Betty Watkins of Vandervoort; two brothers, Buster and Billy Rhodes, both of Cove; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Nick Strother, Wes Wright, Kenneth Gortemiller, Larry McMillan, Randy Burgess and Tommy Lee.
Catherine Roger
Catherine Ann Roger, 82, of Fort Smith died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a retired finance clerk for the city of Rock Island, Ill., and a member of South Side Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery.
She is survived by a sister, Camilla Steelman of Fort Smith.
Billie Carter
MANSFIELD — Billie Jo Carter, 75, of Mansfield died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a homemaker, a retired farmer, a member of Mansfield First Baptist Church and founding member of the Belle Pointe Quilters Guild.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mansfield First Baptist Church with burial at Coop Prairie cemetery in Mansfield under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Mansfield.
She is survived by her husband, Earl; three sons, Jerry Carter of Mansfield, Gary Carter of Alexander, Va., and Burt Carter of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gary and Bobby Musgrove, Bruce Pyles, Brooks Godwin, Ken Boyd and Marion Mathis. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Mansfield First Baptist Church Senior Men’s Sunday school class.

Elva G. “Ray” Graham
Elva G. “Ray” Graham, 92, of Lavaca passed away on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at Peachtree Hospice in Fort Smith. She was born in Cornish (Fort Chaffee) on Sept. 7, 1912. She was raised in and spent most of her life in Lavaca. She was a faithful servant of God and a dedicated hard-working daughter, sister, wife, homemaker and mother of 12 children. She loved sewing (making clothes for her family, friends, neighbors and relatives), making quilts and growing a garden. She was an assisted care provider in the homes of people in Lavaca, Alma and Fort Smith for many years.
She was very much a virtuous woman, spelled out in the Holy Bible, Book of Proverbs, Chapter 31, and believed that a soft answer turned away wrath. She will be greatly missed by all who have had the opportunity to know her. She always loved all of her children and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Acie Graham; two sons, Rupert and Johnny Lee Graham; two grandsons, David and Jonathon Woglom; one great-granddaughter, Dawn Hoffert; her parents, John Henry Ray and Mary Bell Bassett Ray; two sisters, Lola Bell Ray and Nora House; and two brothers, Eugene and Raymond Ray.
She is survived by four daughters, Zeta Bell McLane and husband George of Shelby, Ala., Becky Ann Bonilla and husband David of Tyler, Texas, Linda Lucille Green of Muldrow and Rosetta Brandenburg of Van Buren; six sons, Eddie Gene Graham and wife Sheila of Lake Kiowa, Texas, Freddy Ray Graham, Franklin Pierce Graham and wife Patricia of Lavaca, Michael “Mickey” Graham and wife Coleen of Truxton, Mo., Harold Dewitt Graham of Greenwood and daughter-in-law Genell Graham of Lavaca and Ronnie Carl Graham and wife Kris of Olathe, Kan.; 30 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral will be at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Lavaca on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with burial at Lavaca City cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenneth E. Graham, Daniel G. Graham, Jonathan E. Graham, Harold M. Graham, David L. Graham, Mark A. Graham, Tommy G. Green, Richard Brandenburg and Brian Jones. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Raymond Lee “PaPa” Beecham
Raymond Lee “PaPa” Beecham, 85, of Greenwood died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in a local hospital. He was born March 23, 1919, in Lexington, Tenn. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II, a retired machinist and a member of the First Baptist Church in Greenwood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Miranda Beecham; one brother, George; and four sisters, Beulah Pendergraft, Eula Martin, Marie Gilliam and Alta Wagner.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Dawson cemetery in Milltown under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Derema Beecham of the home; two daughters, Darlene and husband Carl Grandstaff and Jeannine Walker of Greenwood; a brother, Ed Beecham of Eurich, Mo.; four grandchildren, Richy and T. Ray Grandstaff, Scott Walker and Karen Aspinwall; and seven great-grandchildren, Kristin and Will Grandstaff, Tanner, Molly, Maggy and Landry Grandstaff and Cody Smith. PaPa loved to walk and garden and took care of all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Helen S. Miller, age 83, of Fort Smith passed away Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, in Mankato, Minn. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith and worked at Arnolds Beauty Supply in Fort Smith for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Miller, and one son, Klaus William Miller.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by one daughter, Christine Giesler and her husband Duane of Mankato; one sister, Elfriede Geipel of Germany; three grandchildren, Carrie Quackenbush, Debbie Heuer and Mark Miller; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Larry Michael Smith
Mr. Larry Michael Smith, 51, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in a local hospital. He was a 32-year employee of Whirlpool Corp. in Fort Smith, had been a member of the 188th Tactical Fighter Wing in Fort Smith, and was preceded in death by his wife, Sheilla Jane Hurd Smith.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren. Mr. Smith will be cremated.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lynnetta and Travis Penson of Fort Smith; his mother and father, Nell and John D. Smith of Fort Smith; a sister, Betty Williams of Greenwood; two brothers, John Smith of Van Buren and Louis Smith of Central City; two grandchildren, Paige and Presley Penson, both of Fort Smith; his mother and father-in-law, Melba and James Hurd of Dyer; a sister-in-law, Alta Wilson of Alma; and five nieces, Jonella Graham, Tammy Burrow, Amy Goff, Penny Thompson and Tina Biggs.

Margaret Schmitz, 92, of Charleston died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in Charleston. She was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Charleston and St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Schmitz; and one son, James Leo Schmitz.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. today at Roller Funeral Home in Paris.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Scranton with burial at St. Ignatius cemetery in Scranton under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by a daughter, Rose Anna and husband Lewis Dunn of Fort Smith; two sons, Wilfred George Schmitz of Charleston and Robert Joseph and wife Dorothy Schmitz of Stroud, Okla.; three sisters, Lucille Pfeiffer of Paris, Geneva Lasiter of Fort Smith and Dorothy Seville of Ballwin, Mo.; a brother, Johnny Spellins of Subiaco; nine grandchildren, Alan and Randy Schmitz of Tulsa, Okla., Debbye Johns of Moore, Okla., Patty Miller of Stroud, Susie Harrison of New Braunfels, Texas, Nancy Smith of Fort Smith and Dr. James, Gary and Scott Schmitz, all of Charleston; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Lloyd “Bug” Lovell, 83, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a retired machinist and did tree and yard work.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Old Union cemetery in Hackett.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Lovell of the home; a son, Victor Lovell of Warrensburg, Mo.; a daughter, Deena Fitzgerald of Fayetteville; four brothers, Harold Lovell of Pocola, Oren Junior Lovell of Murray Spur, Okla., Jimmy Franklin Lovell of Hackett and Kenneth Lovell of Phoenix; three sisters, Marie Higgins of Fort Smith, Bonnie Higgins of Pocola and Bobbie Carter of Spiro; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Glenn Lovell; one sister, Oneda Brandon; and three brothers, Odell, Vernie and Bill Lovell.

Pauline Farmer, 69, of Fort Smith died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a retired licensed practical nurse for St. Edward Mercy Medical Center and a member of Oak Cliff Baptist Church and ESA Sorority. She served as a Mary Kay beauty consultant for 23 years.
She is survived by her husband, Carl L. Vendel of the home; two daughters, Sonya Hiatt of Fort Smith and Zoe Hathaway of Barling; four stepdaughters, Linda Grebe of Van Buren, Gail Ann Sosa of Clinton, Ala., Betty Ruth Rogers of Kent, Wash., and Doris Lee Bilderback of Lowell; three stepsons, John and Alan Vendel, both of Charleston, and Kenneth Vendel of Clayton, N.C.; a brother, Owen Hopper of Ozark; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

BARLING — Captola Beam Bugg, 87, of Barling died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was born July 16, 1917, in Greenwood. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was the widow of Lon Hayes Bugg.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary Caviness and Joyce Lackey, both of Fort Smith, and Peggy Moon of Barling; two sons, Lon W. Bugg of Fort Smith and Leon Bugg of Prairie Village, Kan.; a sister, Bertha Weir of Hackett; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

MULBERRY — Edith Pointer Simmons, 92, of Mulberry died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker, had attended Oak Bower Baptist Church and was the last living member of Piney Regular Baptist Church in Mulberry. She was the widow of Robert Pointer and Roy Simmons.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Piney cemetery near Mulberry.
She is survived by a daughter, Mabel Millsap of Mulberry; two sons, James Pointer of Glenpool, Okla., and Harold Pointer of Alma; a sister, Lillie Powell of Ozark; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
