Susie Elmira Rix, 87, of Fort Smith died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, in her home. She was a caregiver and a member of Goddard United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Barling City cemetery.
She is survived by a sister, Opal Ruth of Fort Smith; and a half-sister, Hazel Eggleston of Tucumseh, Okla.
Pallbearers will be Dr. T.W. Brown, Wayland Jolley, Stanley Ball, Dan Dwyer and Marvin Morgan.

Lewis H. Renfro
Lewis H. Renfro, 84, of Mulberry died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, in Van Buren. He was a farmer and cattleman and a Protestant.
He is survived by his children, Josie Akins and husband John of Fort Smith, Barbara Lewallen and husband Tom of Mulberry, Larry Renfro and wife Gayle of Mulberry, and Alice Medlock of Van Buren; two sisters, Pauline McCollum of Mulberry and Aline Wyers of Mulberry; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Irene; his second wife, Velta; his mother and father, Ollie and Lee Renfro; brothers, George and Wallace Renfro; and a sister, Eva McChristian.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Shaffer Funeral Home Mulberry Chapel with interment at Piney cemetery, with the Rev. C.G. Fisher and Selva Edwards officiating. Pallbearers will be Billy Davis, Michael Davis, Clay Davis, Christopher Davis, Lee James Renfro and Dave Wilkinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Edgar Tweedy, Thel Morris, Mike Kimes, Bill Oldham, Steve Oliver and Steve Steinsick.
Alice Roberta Geren Clawson
Alice Roberta Geren Clawson was born April 26, 1915, and died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, in Springfield, Mo. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, John Andrew Jack Clawson, in 1975. She was second-to-youngest child of seven born to Beulah Van Cleave Geren and Andrew Jackson A.J. Geren. Two sisters survive her, Pauline Hoel of Fort Smith and Jackie Stapleton of Fort Smith. She was born and raised in the Fort Smith area and was a graduate of Fort Smith High School.
She is survived by a daughter, Jo Clawson Haliburton of Springfield, Mo., and a son, William Andrew Andy Clawson and his wife Mary of Mount Pleasant, S.C. She was grandmother to four children and great-grandmother to six. She was Aunt Alice to numerous nieces and nephews. Her great and good friends, Bill and Delores Shelby, their two daughters and two grandsons became a part of her extended family.
Alice was active in civic and community affairs from the time she was young matron to her final days of volunteer work with the St. Edwards Hospital Auxiliary. She was active in volunteer work in Ada, Okla., El Dorado, and Muskogee, Okla. She was a woman of spirit and compassion.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. today at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She will rest in the midst of her departed family and at the side of her dear husband. The casket will be closed. Alice loved flowers and considered them a fond tribute.

Linda Jane Cooper
Linda Jane Cooper, the third child of William Erwin and Loretta Schmitz Cooper, was born Oct. 19, 1946, in Fort Smith and died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, in Fort Smith.
After an early childhood of braces and casts, Linda was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and underwent her first heel-cord surgery in 1954.
Linda graduated from St. Boniface Catholic School in 1960, from St. Scholastica Academy in 1964, and from St. Edward School of X-ray in 1966. She worked in the X-ray department at St. Edward and at Parkview Hospital in Dallas.
n 1972 Linda returned to Fort Smith and was instrumental in organizing the Manic-Depressive Support Group. She volunteered at Kids World Childcare and later returned to work in the X-ray department at Sparks hospital.
Linda underwent surgery for brain cancer in 1993 and fought a hard battle for 11 years. She had many friends and helpers, including her family, Phyllis Weisenfels, Terry and Mary Fant, Deacon John and Mary Burns, Rosella Stephens, the sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery, members of the Heart of Jesus Prayer Group, members of her parish and the staff at the Fountain of Youth Adult Day Care Center.
Linda was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, an oblate of St. Scholastica Monastery and a member of Heart of Jesus Prayer Group and TOPS in Van Buren.
Mass will be 10 a.m. today at St. Boniface Catholic Church with burial at Holy Cross cemetery under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Linda was preceded in death by a infant brother, Peter, in 1956, her father in 1977 and her mother in 2002. She is survived by two sisters, Ann Childs of Fort Smith and Susie Koenigseder of Subiaco; a brother, Clark of Fort Smith; eight nieces, two nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews.

MENA Lila Eva Christopher Dees, 88, of Mena died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, in Mena. She was born April 29, 1916, in Estellene, Texas. She was a rancher, a member of the Ferry Command during war time and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Dees Family cemetery in Mena under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; two daughters, Roberta McMellon and Barbara Hoover, both of Mena; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bob Turner, Gary Thrailkeld, Mac Westmoreland, Shirley Simon, Russell and Dustin Beck and Dave Bunyard.

BOONEVILLE James David Ritchie Sr., 51, of Booneville died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, in Fort Smith.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Sugar Grove cemetery near Booneville under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.
He is survived by three daughters, Samantha Ritchie and Karen Downs, both of Booneville, and Mae Franklin of Van Buren; a son, James Ritchie Jr. of Booneville; a brother, Ray Ritchie of New York; and a special friend, Lois Adair.
Leon Edwards
MENA Leon Joseph Edwards, 83, of Mena died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, in his home. He was born May 6, 1921, in Sweet Water, Texas. He was an Army veteran, a professional rodeo bronco rider, worked in the construction business for the Labor Union as a tunnel worker for several years.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Pleasant Grove cemetery in Big Fork under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
He is survived by a daughter, Ruby Edwards of Chula Vista, Calif.; two sons, Brent Edwards of Sonora, Calif., and Jerry Edwards of Chula Vista, Calif.; a brother, Slim Edwards of Sonora, Calif.; and several grandchildren.
Robert Quantz
MENA Robert Louis Quantz, 27, of Mena died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004. He was born Feb. 17, 1977, in Great Falls, Mont. He was a machinist and of the Protestant faith.
The body was sent for cremation. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.
He is survived by his wife, Monique Quantz of Rosenberg, Texas; a daughter, Haley Quantz of Rosenburg, Texas; mother and stepfather, Virginia and Dennis Lunger of Mena; two sisters, Lisa Pochmara and Linda Nodes, both of Mena; a brother, William Quantz of Mena; four stepsisters, Shannon Lunger of Michigan, Carol Lunger of Norfolk, Va., Tammy and Denise Lunger, both of Erie, Pa.; a stepbrother, Dennis Lunger of Corey, Pa.; and paternal grandmother, Edna Helini of Skandia, Mich.
Earl Roberts
ALDER SPRINGS Earl Jackson Jack Roberts, 80, of Alder Springs died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, in Hot Springs. He was born Dec. 16, 1923, in Oklahoma City. He was a member of the armed forces and served in Europe during World War II. He was a surgical technician sergeant in the 453rd Bombardment Group and the 568th Army Air Force Unit, which supported operations in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a member of the American Legion, the Hatfield Masonic Lodge and the Mena Elks Lodge, and worked as a drilling superintendent for Exxon Corp. for 20 years in South America, Asia and Europe.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Mollie Gann cemetery in New Potter under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by his wife, Vera; two daughters, Jacqulin Hook and Bobbie Davis, both of Alder Springs; a son, Earl Roberts of Alder Springs; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brian, Earl and Todd Roberts, Greg and Dalton Nelson, Rueben, Felix and Earl Davis.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The family wishes that his friends remember him with a special thought or deed for a hospitalized veteran.
Edwin Wixom
WHITEFIELD, Okla. Edwin Henry Wixom, 81, of Whitefield died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, in Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Whitefield Baptist Church with burial at Hoyt cemetery in Hoyt, Okla., under the direction the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler, Okla.
He is survived by his wife, Callie; four daughters, Mary Stillwell of Fort Gibson, Okla., Jaunita Sawyer of Tahlequah, Okla., Linda Campbell of Muskogee, Okla., and Carolyn Stout of Stigler; five sons, Carl, Henry, Jim and Danny Wixom, all of Whitefield, and Roger Wixom of Cherokee, Okla.; 29 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Justin Wixom, Ron and Stacy Cole, Donnie Sloan, Shane Coplen, Brian Reading, Jame Stillwell Jr. and Danny Sawyer.
The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday.
Monta Terry
SCHULTER, Okla. Monta Ray Buddy Terry, 90, of Schulter, Okla., died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, in Van Buren. He was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Branch. He was a truck driver and a member of Church of Christ in Henryetta, Okla., VFW in Fort Smith, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Fort Smith American Legion Post No. 31. He was the widower of Verla Terry.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Shurden Funeral Home Chapel in Henryetta with burial at Westlawn cemetery.
He is survived by two sons, Tom Terry of Van Buren and Roy Walker of Schulter, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Lonnie Chambers
CHARLESTON Lonnie Ray Chambers, 62, of Charleston died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, in Charleston. He was born Nov. 2, 1941, in Lavaca. He was a welder for Schmudo Inc. and Bolin & Co., a Protestant and the widower of Janice Chambers.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Measles cemetery in Lavaca.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Chambers of Van Buren; two sons, Steve Chambers of Oregon and Billy Chambers of Van Buren; three sisters, Betty Buckner of Charleston, Joyce Lishbrook in Fort Smith, and Sara Quick of Van Buren; two brothers, Johnny Chambers of Hackett and Bobby Chambers of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be nephews.

ALMA Lois LaVerne Ramsey, 56, of Alma died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, in her home. She was born June 23, 1948, in Springdale. She was of the Pentecostal faith and the widow of Jimmy Ramsey Sr.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at Hall cemetery in Natural Dam.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Wilson of Kaiser, Mo., and Berna Hulzey of Arkoma; two sons, Jimmy Ramsey Jr. of Muldrow and Guy Ramsey of Van Buren; five sisters, Betty Thomas, Jean Williams, Brenda Smith and Sharion Chumbley, all of California, and Mary Frazier of Alma; three brothers, Claud McGowan of Nevada, Bill McGowan of California, and Stilman McGowan of Alma; and 11 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Buddy, Bobby and Paul Huff, Rick Wester, Chris Wilson and Zack Thomas.

FAIRLAND, Okla. Corina Kraft, 93, of Fairland died Friday, Oct. 22, 2003, in Fairland. She was of the Baptist faith and was the widow of Albert Kraft.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by three grandchildren.
