BOONEVILLE — Charlene Ethel Dempsey, 83, of Booneville died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was a beauty operator, a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Booneville. She served many years as a member of the Good Fellows in Booneville and was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Booneville.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Booneville with burial at Oak Hill cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; a daughter, Sharon Shellaburger of Little Rock; two sons, Garry Lee of Russellville and James Dempsey of Fort Smith; a brother, J.B. Traylor of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Layton and Chris Lee and Scott and Mark Shellaburger.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Almetta Laster
Almetta Embry Laster, 86, of Fort Smith died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Alma. She worked for Model Laundry, Howard Elementary School and the YWCA before she retired. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and the widow of Macy Laster.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park cemetery.
She is survived by three daughters, Alma Bridges and Betty St. Clair, both of Fort Smith, and Oleta Harris of Alexandria, La.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Donald Peer, Jim Edwards, Richard Longmate, Gilbert Quinalty, Terry Cambell and Randy Smith.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Ules Owens
UNION HILL — Ules “Pub” Owens, 83, of Union Hill died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, in a Waldron hospital. He was born February 17, 1921. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church and was retired from the timber industry.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Union Hill cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
He is survived by his wife, Willo; a daughter, Joyce Chrisman of Waldron; three sons, Royce Owens of Waldron, Ules “Jim” Owens of Harvey and Roger Owens of Union Hill; a sister, Elgin Dickens of Waldron; a brother, Boyd Owens of Modesto, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Clint House, Darren Hatton, David Chrisman, Greg Owens, Tim Cox and Phillip Sherrill.
The body may be viewed from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Hazel Trotter
MONTICELLO — Hazel Fleming Trotter, 89, formerly of Moticello, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, in Pine Bluff. She was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Drew County. She received a BSE in elementary education from A&M College, now the University of Arkansas at Monticello, and taught for 36 years at Enon, Drew Central and Monticello school systems. She was the widow of Clarence Trotter and a member of First Baptist Church of Monticello, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. today at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello with burial at Enon cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Durmon of Van Buren and Linda Chapman of Monticello; a son, Dr. Bob Tindall of Tyler, Texas; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Jean McKinney
CLARKSVILLE — Jean McKinney, 73, of Clarksville died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005. She was born Aug. 9, 1931, in Chicago. She was a graduate of Chicago High School, a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and a retired Wal-Mart employee.
Rosary will be 7 p.m today at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with cremation following under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by her husband, Dave; two daughters, Debbie Talley and Dorothea McKinney, both of Clarksville; four sons, David, Daniel and Dwayne McKinney, all of Clarksville, and Donald Mckinney of Fort Smith; two sisters, Judy Stack of Palos Park, Ill., and Barbara Stolnack of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

DUMAS, Texas — J.H. “Jude” Testerman, 86, of Dumas, Texas, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, in Dumas. He was born July 10, 1918, in Schaberg. He was a furnace foreman for American Zinc, worked at Cactus Feeders and was a member of the First Assembly of God of Dumas, Texas.

IONE — June Hall, 77, of Ione died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, in Booneville. She was a waitress and attended Ione Baptist Church.
Funeral was held Friday at Roberts Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Booneville with burial at French Prairie cemetery near Ione.
She is survived by a daughter, Candy Jones of Ione; two sons, Phillip Griffith of Phoenix and Paul Hall of Jenny Lind; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

MENA — Ila Mae Johnston, 89, of Mena died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, in Sherman, Texas. She was born May 6, 1915, in Baker Springs. She was a homemaker, of the Baptist faith and the widow of R.W. Johnston.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
She is survived by two daughters, Janell Townsend of Mena and Betty Rivers of Sherman, Texas; a son, Stan Johnston of Mena; a sister, Gladys Price of Mena; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Barbara Redding
Barbara June Standard Redding, 72, of Van Buren died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, in a local hospital. She was born June 19, 1932, in Crawford County. She was retired from Sparks Regional Medical Center as a library assistant.
A private family interment of cremains will be at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Inola; two daughters, Kathy Hairgrove and Karen Pharris; four sisters, Joyce Maddox, Mildred Breeden, Margarette O’Dell and Jane Travis; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Ronald Phillips
Ronald Gene Phillips, 58, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005. He was a fence builder.
Private family burial will be at Forest Park cemetery at a later date under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

Almetta Embry Laster, 87, of Fort Smith passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 27, 1917, in New Town, Alma, to the Rev. H.E. Embry and Henrietta Pharam Embry. Berlin Black
Berlin Black, 60 of Cadiz, Ky., died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in Cadiz. He was born Jan. 31, 1944, in Huntington, W.Va. Mr. Black was retired from the Army with 22 years of service and was also a retired Civil Service employee from Fort Campbell, Ky. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and AFGE in Fort Campbell. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Black; mother, Marcella Blower Black; and two brothers, Charles and Lloyd Black.
Service was held Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home in Huntington, W.Va., with burial and full military rites at Highland cemetery in Huntington.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Coville Black of Cadiz, Ky.; a daughter, Sabrina Lingle of Lawton, Okla.; two sons, Adam Lee Black and Jared Allen Black, both of Cadiz; four sisters, June Beach, Sue Bryant, Rose Smith and Lahoma Weekley, all of Huntington, W.Va.; two brothers, Gordon Black of Proctville, Ohio. and Mike Black of Huntington; and three grandchildren, Mikey Black of Cadiz, Allison Lingle and Chantell Lingle, both of Lawton.
Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz, Ky.; and Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home.

William “Bill” Pusch
William “Bill” Pusch, age 34, of Mountain Home, formerly of Russellville and Little Rock, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005. He was born March 8, 1970, at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Michigan to Jack Pusch and Retha Mae Winders Pusch. He married
Lisa Harwell on Sept. 5, 1992, in Russellville. Mr. Pusch was a member of Saddle Creek Baptist Church in Little Rock, attended the First Baptist Church in Mountain Home. He was a special asset manager at the Arvest Bank in Yellville. He was currently a captain in the Army Reserve, 90th Regional Readiness Command, serving in the JAG Corps. He was a graduate of Dover High School in Dover, Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, and the Arkansas Law School in Little Rock. He was a devoted husband and father. He was the life of any room he was in. He enjoyed writing, camping, hunting and was a den leader of the Tiger Cubs.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Pusch, a daughter, Alexa Rae Pusch, and a son, James “Ben” Pusch, all of the home; his father, Jack Pusch of Little Rock; mother, Retha Mae Pusch of Van Buren; and two brothers, Steven Kurt Pusch of Republic of Georgia, Russia, and Jack E. Pusch Jr. of Youngtown, Fla.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Second Baptist Church in Russellville with the Rev. Dr. John Gerlach officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven cemetery in Russellville.

Le Thi Hien, 85, of Soc Trang, Vietnam, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, in Soc Trang.
She is survived by her husband, Tam Nguyen of Vietnam, who is 89 years old; two daughters and two sons in Vietnam; two sons in the United States, Kinh Minh Nguyen of Van Buren and Chieu Minh Nguyen of Houston; 23 grandchildren, two in United States, Luan Minh Nguyen of Van Buren and Ann Thu Nguyen of Euless, Texas; and 16 great-grandchildren.
