Mr. Jonathan Busby

Jonathan Christian Busby was born January 27, 1983 in Newport, Arkansas to Rev. Rick Busby and Gail Renee Brown Busby and passed from this life April 29, 2010 in Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 27. Jonathan spent much of his childhood growing up in Georgia. While in high school he proudly participated in Junior ROTC. As a young man he was married and through this union he was blessed with two beautiful girls, Abigail and Olivia. He had worked much of his adult life as a painter on various construction sites. He was very artistic and enjoyed drawing, sketching, and painting. When seeing his work his talent was very evident. Jonathan was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Rev. Lonnie Busby and his maternal grandparents, Bill and Jane Brown. Survivors include: his daughters Abigail and Olivia of Heber Springs, Arkansas; his father Rev. Rick Busby and wife Cyndi of Martinez, Georgia; his mother Gail Renee Johnson and husband Randy of Greeley, Kansas; a brother Brandon Busby and wife Kimberly of Evans, Georgia; paternal grandmother Fannie Busby of Oil Trough, Arkansas; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m. at the Jackson Funeral Home in Newport, Arkansas with Rev. Don Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in the Hindman Cemetery
in Oil Trough, Arkansas.
Miss. Theobeth Beckett
August 24, 1943 - May 04, 2010
Mrs. Theobeth Beckett, 66, of Newport died Tuesday. She was born August 24, 1943 at Newport, the daughter of Abraham and Irene (Lewellen) Jones. She was a accountant for the Waco Cable System until her retirement, and a Methodist. She enjoyed gardening and reading. Mrs. Beckett was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Harold Ray Jones. She is survived by her husband, George L. Beckett; two sons, James Beckett and wife Donna of Katy, Texas and George R. Beckett and wife Laura of North Little Rock; two brothers, Lewis Jones of Newport, Dorsey Jones of Devers, Texas; a cousin who was raised as a brother to her, W.F. “Dub” Sullivan; and her grandchildren, Brandy, Aaron, Nickey, Tayler, Joy, Jordyn, Bailey, and Benson.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Maple Springs Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Mr. Virgil D. Hutchinson

Mr. Virgil D. Hutchinson, 79, of Newport died Sunday, May 9, 2010. He was born July 14, 1930 at Newport, the son of Porter Lee and Zelma Ruth (Rhoads) Hutchinson. Mr. Hutchinson was a retired farmer, and a member of the First Free Will Baptist church of Newport. He was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict as a tank commander and attaining rank of Sergeant. He enjoyed hunting and collecting, guns, arrowheads, marbles, and coins, and loved looking at old homesteads. Mr. Hutchinson was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Mary Katherine Hutchinson. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Belva Hutchinson of Newport; one son, Todd David Hutchinson and wife Tonia of Newport; one daughter, Beth (Hutchinson) Bright and husband Larry of Newport; two brothers, James “Sonny” Hutchinson of Newport and Jerry Hutchinson of Pitt’s Community at Cash; two sisters, Ima Nell Doyle of Newport and Carol Jean Wagner of Grubbs; four grandchildren, Amber (Hutchinson) Taylor and husband Joel, Derek Bright, Summer Bright, and Kaelin Hutchinson; and two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Asher Taylor.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m .Wednesday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Watson Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Mrs. Minnie Little

Mrs. Minnie Little, 66, of Beedeville died Sunday. She was born October 29, 1943 at Woodruff County, the daughter of J.Q. and Alice (Smith) Taylor. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Northside Church of Christ. She was a member of the Beedeville City Counsel, and was instrumental in building the park at Beedeville. Mrs. Little was a very outgoing, friendly person. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, swimming, and playing softball. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Little is survived by her husband of fifty years, Henry K. Little; one son, Henry Scott Little of Beedeville; one daughter, Suzanne Brown and husband Hoyt of Phoenix, Arizona; three brothers, Buddy Taylor of Conway, Eddie Taylor of Woodruff County, and Johnny Taylor of Woodruff County; three sisters, Janet Hess of McCrory, Ann White of Cefner, and Mary McCullouch of Patterson; four grandchildren, Jessica McClendon, Charm McClendon, Tracy Wells, and Genie Wells; and two great-grandchildren, Kobie Huckebee and Jaiden Huckebee.
Pallbearers will be Greg Polston, Danny Hicks, David Coleman, Jody Breckenridge, William Little, Johnny Wayne Taylor, and Roger Handy.
Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Fakes Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Mrs. Brenda Adcox

Miss Brenda Adcox, 66, of Newport died Monday. She was born December 22, 1943 at Searcy, the daughter of David Adcox, Sr., and Lois (Nance) Adcox. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newport, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. As a youth, she was active in GA at the Baptist Church and was a Girl Scout. She especially enjoyed bowling. She is survived by two brothers, David Adcox, Jr., of Brinkley and Jimmy Adcox of Newport; one sister, Beverly Lindsey and husband Thomas of Arlington, Texas; and nieces and nephews, David Adcox, III, Lori Paulsen, and Brian Erickson. Pallbearers will be Dr. Mike Brown, Tommy Messer, Bill Keedy, David Adcox III, Bobby Massey, Jimmy Jones, and Odell Burks.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Friday at Newport First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Eightmile Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Geneva Belle McDonald, 92, of Newport died Tuesday, May 11, 2010. She was born October 29, 1917 at Bald Knob. Mrs. McDonald was a homemaker, and a member of the Lakeside Baptist Church. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for over fifty years, and enjoyed taking care of other people. Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by her first husband, John Hipp; her second husband, Otis McDonald; two sisters, Elsie Smith and Audry LaMar; her father, Herman Altom; and her mother, Lula (Hall) Altom Irons. She is survived by two sons, John S. Hipp of Schwertz, Texas and Roy Hipp and wife Lynn of Kingsport, Tennessee; one daughter, Martha Roberts and husband Danny of Southaven, Mississippi; seven grandchildren, Angela Roberts, Stacy Sanders and husband Louie, John Hipp and wife Reena, Mark Hipp and wife Brandy, Allison Smith and husband Larry, Jonathan Hipp and wife Ashley, and Kalyn Settles and husband Stephen; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mary F. Mulvaney

Mrs. Mary Flora Mulvaney, 89, of Bradford died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Searcy. She was born September 18, 1920 at Bradford, the daughter of Frank and Oma (Boyce) Willis. Mrs. Mulvaney was an inspector with General Industries, and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed painting, needlework, latch hooking rugs, and quilting. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry W. Rice; her second husband, William Mulvaney; one son, Willis Rice; one brother, James Willis; and five sisters, Clara Black, Lucy Jackson, Nellie Donley, Ruby Flanigan, and Garna Hendricks. Mrs. Mulvaney is survived by one daughter, Birdie Johnson of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Kirk Johnson, Kim Hartin, Melissa Rice, Patricia Rice, and Keith Rice; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Heard Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Mr. Alfred "Slim" Slagley

Mr. Alfred David “Slim” Slagley, 86, of Swifton died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at his residence. He was born March 30, 1924 at Swifton, the son of Wiley and Mary Ann (Williford) Slagley. Mr. Slagley was a retired farmer, and a member of the Swifton Assembly of God. He was a World War II Army veteran, earning a Purple Heart during his service. He was a member of the VFW and DAV, and loved baseball. Mr. Slagley was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (Fortenberry) Slagley; two brothers, Johnie William Slagley and Shelby Dee Slagley. He is survived by two brothers, Woodrow Tillman Slagley of Swifton, and Wylie Devurn Slagley of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Swifton Assembly of God. Interment will be in Swifton Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Mrs. Dorothy M. (Addington) Tirey, 77, of Batesville died Wednesday. She was born September 27, 1932 at Amagon, the daughter of Eugene and Nona (Honey) Addington. Mrs. Tirey was a homemaker, and a member of the Believers Community Outreach at Batesville. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, watching soap operas, and spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Tirey was preceded in death by her first husband, Clay Self; her second husband, Charles E. Tirey; one son, Eddie Tirey; one brother, Willie Joe Addington; and her parents. She is survived by one son, Ronnie Self and wife Anita of Blytheville; two daughters, Cindy D. Smith and husband Mike of Batesville and Gail White of Illinois; two brothers, Leroy Addington of Newport and Jerry Addington of Amagon; three sisters, Joyce Newby of Newport, Linda Eskew of Amagon and Betty Collins of Amagon; three grandchildren, Ashlee Wooten, Bradley Self and Ron Self and six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Gladys Creswell

Miss Gladys Creswell, 93, of Batesville died Friday, May 21, 2010. She was born October 26, 1916 at Mt. Olive, Arkansas, the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Wallace) Creswell. As a young woman, Miss Creswell was a school teacher, and later worked for the FBI in Washington, DC and worked for the Department of the Air Force. She was a secretary for the State of Arkansas, retiring in November of 1981, after twenty-two years of service. She was a member of the Church of Christ, and enjoyed reading and sewing. Miss Creswell was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Wallace and William Creswell; and one sister, Lola Creswell. She is survived by one sister, Grace Treadway of Batesville; two sisters-in-law, Merle Creswell of Newark and Louise Creswell of Cabot; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Monday at Jackson’s Newark Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Blue Springs Cemetery. Visitation is Monday, 1:30 p.m.

Mrs. Patsy Dianne (Adams) Hartsell, 47, of Tuckerman died Friday, May 21, 2010 at her home. She was born March 25, 1963, at Trumann, the daughter of Loyd and Mary (Neal) Adams. Mrs. Hartsell was a homemaker, and a member of the Tuckerman Family Worship Center. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her nephew Kadin. Mrs. Hartsell also enjoyed listening to gospel music and quilting. She was preceded in death by her parents; Loyd and Mary Adams; and one grandson, Tristian Tims. Mrs. Hartsell is survived by her husband, David Hartsell, Sr. of the home; one son, David Hartsell, “DJ”, Jr. of Tuckerman; one daughter, Heather (Hartsell) Tims and husband Jason of Tuckerman; five brothers, Loyd Adams, Jr. and wife Janie of Bay, Donnie Adams and wife Mary of Bay, Terry Adams and wife Roma of Jonesboro, Wesley Adams and wife Zelda of Sedgwick, Arkansas, and David Adams and wife Vickie of Tuckerman; three sisters, Mary Jane Whitlock and husband R. H. of Bay, Janet Cain and husband Ralph of Harrisburg, and Tressia Emerson of Bay; and four grandchildren, Christian Tims, Aidian Tims, Noah Tims, and Jayden Tims.

Mrs. Nola Mae (Burge) Gardner, 95, of Sulphur Rock, Arkansas died Friday, May 21, 2010 at Batesville. She was born January 6, 1915 at the Walnut Grove Community of Cord, Arkansas,the daughter of Lawson and Laura (King) Burge. Mrs. Gardner was a homemaker, and a member of the Newark Church of Christ. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, outside work, and cooking for everyone at family gatherings. Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Oness Gardner; one son, Gary Gardner; an infant daughter, Karen Gail Gardner; two brothers, Clyde Burge and Coy Burge; four sisters, Agnes Hensley, Nora Marshall, Effie Zuber, and Beulah Marshall; one grandson, Greg Brooks; and one great-granddaughter, Lauren Wheeler. She is survived by three sons, Neill Gardner and wife Carol of Andover, Kansas, Kennie Gardner and wife Pat of Newark, Arkansas, and Obbie Gardner and wife Coleda of Newark, Arkansas; two daughters, Willeen Brooks and husband Bud of Newark, and Linda Stephens of Sulphur Rock, Arkansas; one daughter-in-law, Neva Gardner; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Kathryn Watson, 71, of Batesville, formerly of Tuckerman, died Saturday, May 22, 2010. She was born June 10, 1938 at Newport, Arkansas, the daughter of Richard and Hattie Mae (Starkey) Barnes. She was a retired LPN, having worked at Newport Hospital, and was a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crafts. Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus “Bill” Watson; her parents, Richard and Hattie Mae (Starkey) Barnes; her step-mother, Mable Barnes; an infant son, Jimmy Don Clayton; and one sister, Mary Ann Rosenthal. She is survived by two sons, Tony Carl Watson of Batesville and Billy Harold Watson of Wichita, Kansas; two daughters, Velma Mae Clayton Martin of DIberville, Mississippi and Jackie Lynna Watson Weddington of Brasstown, North Carolina; one brother, Ricky Barnes of Springdale, Arkansas; one step-brother, Roger Faust of Newport; one brother-in-law, Freddy Harold Watson of Bartlett, Tennessee; four sisters, Betty Stewart of Cabot, Martha Ann Stewart of Tontitown, Arkansas, Lois Cox of Little Rock, and Allie Mae Kirker of Diaz; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Billie Ann (Cole) Stewart, 74, of Tuckerman died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at McCrory. She was born March 22, 1936 at Jackson County, the daughter of Abe H. and Gladys M. (Ussery) Cole. Mrs. Stewart was retired from American Lantern, and was a member of the Tuckerman First Baptist Church. She was active in the Tuckerman community, and was a former Tuckerman City Council Member. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.N. “Stu” Stewart, Jr.; and her parents. Mrs. Stewart is survived by two sons, Terry Hembrey and Greg Hembrey, both of Tuckerman; one step-daughter, Terri Stewart Onstott of El Dorado; two brothers, Jimmy Cole and wife Shirley and Jerry Cole and wife Libby, all of Tuckerman; two grandchildren, Heather Hembrey Penix and husband Joey of Tuckerman and Whitney Hembrey of Newark; one great-grandchild, Karlee Penix; two step-grandchildren, Elita and Stewart Tubbs; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, 5:00-7:00 p.m.
