Hilda Shelby
Hilda Shelby, 79, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Prairie View. She was a homemaker and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Earl; a daughter, Sharon Johnson of Fort Smith; a son, Gary Shelby of Fort Smith; two sisters, Patsy Siebenmorgen of Prairie View and Freida Allen of Hackett; a brother, Bobby Fritschie of Oklahoma; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Rick and Mark Shelby, Ben Frietschie and Lawrence Kaelin.
The family will visit with friends after the rosary.
Margaret Dickson
Margaret Nora Dickson, 83, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was a member of Faith Assembly of God, a foster parent for the Department of Human Services and the widow of J.W. Dickson.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice Gosnell of Houston and Carolyn Tucking of Kearney, Mo.; two sons, Ronald Rathburn of Brinkley and Ken Rathburn of Fort Smith; a sister, Montie Rowland of Paragould; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Martha Ann Ree
Martha Ann Ree, 68, of Short, Okla., died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, in a local hospital. She was a native of Bidville and Locke communities. She attended Christian Life Ministries Church and was a homemaker.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Seabolt cemetery near Short under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Herman Ree of the home; a daughter, Anita Jones of Muldrow; two sons, Wayne Ree of Pocola and Thomas Ree of Muldrow; two sisters, Verna Camp of Newalla, Okla., and Faye Perryman of Rudy; a brother, Sam Sheperd of Luther, Okla.; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Vance Mooney, Eddie Armer, Buddy Koonce, Chris Armer, Justin Allen, Bruce Copeland, Rudy Suttles, Tony Garcia, Alvin Loomis and Justin Good.
Mary Auldean Turner
Mary Auldean Turner, age 84, of Glenwood went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005.
She was born on Feb. 29, 1920, in Kirby, the daughter of Cleo Anderson and Exie Sparks Anderson. On Oct. 4, 1936, she was married
to Moody D. Turner, who preceded her in death after 48 years of marriage, on Jan. 6, 1984; she was also preceded in death by her son, James Ronald Turner.
She is survived by her daughter and her son-in-law, Pat and John Geren of Fort Smith; four sons and four daughters-in-law, Jerry L. and Bonnie Turner, Michael R. and Donna Turner, Steve E. and Becky Turner, all of Glenwood, and David A. and Mary Turner of Diana, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 3 p.m. today at the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Turner and the Rev. Terrell Holland officiating. Interment will be at Lodi cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
Pallbearers will be Jeffery Horn, J.C. Harmon, Tim Parker, Kevin Parker, Matthew Turner and Russell Pedron.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kreston Willeford and Alex Jordan.

Sally B. Staed
Sally B. Staed, 88, of Fort Smith, formerly of Little Rock and Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at her residence in Fort Smith.
Mrs. Staed was born Oct. 6, 1915, in St. Joseph, Mo. She had retired as a dietitian and food service manager with the Poplar Bluff Missouri Public School System, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Poplar Bluff, where she was a member of the St. Ann Alter Society. She belonged to the PEO Chapter in Poplar Bluff and Little Rock and had received a 50-year membership pin. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and needlework.
On Aug. 18, 1941, she married
William R. Staed Jr. in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2003. Her parents, George and Doris Patterson Bancroft; a daughter, Ann Staed Lynn; and one brother, Bill Bancroft, also preceded her in death.
Other survivors include a daughter, Katie Staed Gill and husband Jack of Plant City, Fla.; two sons, Bill Staed and wife Janet of Fort Smith and Mike Staed and wife Ann of St. Louis; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Geff Lamprea officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery.

Sue Parker
Sue Parker, 72, of Fort Smith passed away Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a member of the First Church of Nazarene. She volunteered with the Seventh-day Adventist School, where the children call her “Grandma Sue.” She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene R. Parker, in 1986.
Graveside service will be held noon Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at the U.S. National cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
She is survived by her sons, Ray Parker and wife Margie of Wichita, Kan., and Joe Parker and wife Brenda of Fort Smith; brothers, Housei Nako, Houei Nako, both of Japan; four grandchildren, Michael Parker of Norman, Okla., Kimberley Easton of Tulsa, Austin Parker and Mark Parker of Fort Smith.

DeeRay Pitts
CLARKSVILLE — DeeRay Pitts, 87, of Clarksville died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005. She was born June 22, 1917, in Lehigh, Okla. She was a former employee of Ore Ida Products, a member of East Zion Baptist Church and the widow of Earl Pitts.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville.
She is survived by a daughter, Arneita Patton of Alma; five sons, Sidney Pitts of Millington, Tenn., Dean, Dennis, Earl and Don Pitts, all of Clarksville; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Kenneth Taylor
Kenneth Oneal Taylor, 71, of Van Buren, formerly of Harrisburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, in his home. He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired carpenter.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill cemetery in Kibler.
He is survived by 10 daughters, Delora Mitchell and Patricia Yocum, both of Van Buren, Willa Bank and Melinda Taylor, both of Flint, Mich., Domalee Taylor and Cozette Crump, both of Burton, Mich., Janice Smith of Grand Blanc, Mich., Sandra Geren of Fredrick, Mich., Jean Burdis of Clio, Mich., and Rose Gray of Mount Morris, Mich.; seven sons, Bryan Linton of Alma, Lloyd Taylor of Montrose, Mich., Leroy Linton of Osseo, Mich., Doyle and James Taylor, both of Flint, Mich., Tony Crump and Mack Vanlanduyt, both of Burton, Mich.; four sisters, Nelda Summers and Linda Johnson, both of Georgia, Gail Sheahan of Alabama and Maxine Geren of Michigan; three brothers, Charles, Orville and Glen Taylor, all of Alabama; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

MENA — Quinton Dale Cogburn Cowell, infant son of Jason and Amy Cowell of Mena, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, in Mena.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Shady cemetery in Shady under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by paternal grandparents, John and Lynn Cowell and Harold and Cindy Geels, all of Clarksville; maternal grandparents, Loretta and Dale Cogburn of Mena; paternal great-grandparents, David and Bernice Higby of Clarksville; maternal great-grandmother, Wanda Cogburn of Mena; and maternal great-great-grandfather, Rooster Cogburn of Mena.
Dennis Kanady
RATCLIFF — Dennis L. Kanady, 58, of Ratcliff died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Jan. 22, 1946, in Madera, Calif. He attended the Caulksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Caulksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial at Garden of Memories cemetery in Charleston under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by a daughter, Jamie Morse of Cherry, Ill.; two sons, James Kanady of California and Dennis Kanady of Macon, Ga.; his mother, Mable Kanady of Ratcliff; two sisters, Eulema O’Neal and MaryAnn Hawk, both of Ratcliff; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Stubblefield, Alan Guise, Mike Core, David Ryles, Melvin O’Neal and James Hawkins.
The body may be viewed beginning noon today.

Bernice Gillespie
Bernice Gillespie, 90, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, in her home. She was a member of the Aldersgate Sunday school class and member of First United Methodist Church, and attended Randolph Macon College in Virginia, where she was a member of Chi Omega.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Roebuck Chapel at First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith with burial at Oak cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
She is survived by her husband, Pat; six sons, Patrick Gillespie of Raleigh, N.C., Michael Gillespie of Bonita Springs, Fla., Steve Gillespie of Clearwater, Fla., Dr. Edward Gillespie of Ardmore, Okla., Lee Gillespie of Little Rock and James Gillespie of Atlanta; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

William Huey Jr.
William E. “Bill” Huey Jr., 85, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Fort Smith and a retired building inspector for the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Flocine; a daughter, Marie Canaday of Fort Smith; and a son, Steve Huey of Russellville.

Kenneth Larry King Sr.
Kenneth Larry King Sr., 52, passed away of natural causes in his home on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, in Mulberry. He was born Nov. 12, 1952, in Fort Smith to Thelma and Orville King. He worked for Riverside Furniture and other plants in the Fort Smith area. Kenneth graduated from Northside High School and was a member of the Army National Guard. He was a devout Christian and a charter member of Windsor Park Baptist Church.
Kenneth enjoyed all outdoor and sporting activities. Most of all he was proud of his four children and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gwen King, mother Thelma Truelove and stepmother Iva King.
He is survived by his father, Orville King of Fort Smith; a daughter, Elizabeth King of Fort Smith; three sons, Kenneth King Jr. and Daniel King, both of Fort Smith, and Joshua King of Fayetteville; two sisters, Nancy Vandergriff of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Beverly Stallings of Fort Smith; two brothers, Jim King of Fort Smith and Virgil Maynard of Sand Springs, Okla.; three grandchildren, Skyler, Jada and Amara King, all of Fort Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. today at South Pointe Baptist Church at Windsor Drive and Albert Pike with burial at Pleasant Grove cemetery in Abbott under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

Bradley Eugene Haren
Bradley Eugene Haren, 52, of Fort Smith, beloved husband and father, passed away on Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was born Jan. 31, 1952, in Corona, Calif. He graduated from the Edgewood High School in West Cavina, Calif., in 1971. Brad worked in lumber in Johnsdale, Calif., and Salt Lake City. He married
Sandra Lynn Phillips of Fort Smith in June 1976, and they moved back to Fort Smith in 1978.
Brad was a former employee of the Okla Homer Smith Co., Fort Smith Table and Chair, and MacSteel Corp. He has been an employee of the Whirlpool Corp. in Fort Smith for the past 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra of the home; three children, Samuel Eugene, Phillip Charles, and Victoria Lynn Haren, all of the home; his mother, Eleanor Haren, and a sister, Sandra Hall, both of Tavares, Fla.; and his father and mother-in-law, Howard and Patricia Phillips of Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles William Haren, who passed away on April 4, 2001.
Funeral services will be graveside at noon Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at the New Hope cemetery in Spiro under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home and officiated by the Rev. Charles Rogers. The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Thursday morning from 9 to 11 a.m.
