Rose Wallace
ALMA — Rose E. Wallace, 99, of Alma died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, in a local nursing home. She was born July 14, 1905, in Winslow. She was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Alma, a homemaker and the widow of Reg Wallace.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at Pope cemetery in Mountainburg.
She is survived by a daughter, Garnett Chapman of Alma; a son, Jimmy Evans of Van Buren; two stepsons, Edward Evans of Clarksville and Bill Evans of Little Rock; 18 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Joe and Jackie Campbell, Keith Bright, Ronnie, Larry, Ricky, Johnny and Bobby Warnock.
Tubby Sampley
OZARK — Larry Richard “Tubby” Sampley, 55, of Ozark died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, in Waldron. He was born May 4, 1949, in Atlus. He was a dozer operator for Chrisman’s in Ozark.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Houston cemetery in Alix.
He is survived by a son, Chris Sampley of Ozark; three sisters, Patricia Smith and Reba Lloyd, both of Altus, and Gail Nunn of Boyd, Texas; four brothers, Ronnie Sampley of Van Buren, Dennis and Billy Sampley, both of Altus, and Jimmy Sampley of Ozark; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers will be J.C. Callahan, Mike Jordan, Bill Davis, Scott and Mike Chrisman and Steve Hurtt.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Tom Hart
Tom Hart, 63, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was a self-employed painter for Hart Painting and a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Gill cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; one daughter, Rebekah Robertson of Fort Smith; four sons, Michael, Christopher and Thomas Hart, and John Hook, all of Fort Smith; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Robertson, Mike, Chris and Tommy Hart, John Hook and Derek Caldwell.
Mary Martindale
Mary Martindale, 57, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and attended Community Bible Church in Fort Smith.
Funeral was Saturday at Community Bible Church with burial at White Bluff cemetery in Bonanza under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; a daughter, Mitzi Burkhart of Fort Smith; two sons, Dewayne McAlister of Austin, Texas, and Doug Martindale of Fort Smith; a sister, Jackie Towles of Fort Smith; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers were Ray Webb, Steve Roberts, Rob Peterson, Butch Hendrix, Ronnie Price and Gary Sanders.
Joe Carter Jr.
SUBIACO — Joe Wesley Carter Jr., 83, of Subiaco died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Paris, worked at the Wiggins Store, Triple A and Pioneer Broiler Co. in the poultry industry and was an agriculture teacher and a civil service chief clerk of operations.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Paris with burial at McKendree cemetery in Subiaco under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his wife, June; two sons, Dr. Brad Carter of Oakridge, Tenn., and John Carter of West Palm Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tim Henson, Kyle, Jimmy and Art Carter, William O. Carter Jr., J.C. Horn and Charles Cameron.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Pioneer Sunday school class.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

PARIS — Ada M. Cole, 97, of Paris died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, in Paris. She was self-employed in child care and was the widow of Cella Cole.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris with burial at Corley cemetery on Arkansas 309 in the Corley community.
She is survived by a sister, Mae Reames of Paris.
Pallbearers will be Ed Wolfe, Larry and Joshua Robberson, Bradley and Keith Reames and Jordan Byrd.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today.
Leon Cooper
Elbert Leon Cooper, 76, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, in a local hospital. He was born March 5, 1928, in Des Arc. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the American Legion; he was an Army and Navy veteran and served on the USS Pennsylvania Reunion Association.
Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; five daughters, Kathy Botti, Pam Kerby and Sandra Ritchie, all of Little Rock, Wendy Wiseman of Alma and Tammy Struble of Fort Smith; a son, Garry Cooper of Indiana; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

William Richards
BARLING — William “Bill” Richards, 86, of Barling died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, in Tulsa. He was a retired major in the Army and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was retired as chapter manager of the Sebastian County Red Cross, a volunteer for St. Edward Hospice, a former volunteer for SCAN and a water safety instructor for the Red Cross. He was a member of the Fort Smith Noon Lions Club, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Little Rock Cursillo and served as a Eucharistic minister, commentator, lector and usher for Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was the widower of Louise Richards.
Rosary will be 6:30 p.m. Monday at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith. Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fort Smith with burial at Calvary cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by a daughter, Margery Metz of Tulsa; a son, Steven Richards of Booneville; a brother, Augie Woicekoski of North Hampton, Mass.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mary Turnbull
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — Mary Beth Webb Turnbull, 72, of Lake Havasu City died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, in Lake Havasu City. She was born Aug. 17, 1932, in Fort Smith. She moved to Lake Havasu City seven years ago from La Puente, Calif.
She is survived by her husband, Al; two daughters, Terri Wright of Upland, Calif., and Kathie Mize of Lake Havasu City; a son, Jonathan Wright of Little Rock; two sisters, Bette Hunley of Maumelle and Billye Swink of Fort Smith; a brother, Harry Webb of Chula Vista, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Joseph Werner
MULBERRY — Joseph Emil Werner, 74, of Mulberry, formerly of Fort Smith, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, in his home. He was a retired salesman for Sears, an Army veteran, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and president of the St. Joseph Society. He held offices in the Fort Smith Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Fort Smith.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. today at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Altus with burial at St. Mary’s cemetery in Altus.
He is survived by his wife, Darlynne; three stepdaughters, Nancy Hatchett of Mulberry, Julie Martin of Fort Smith and Lisa Townsend of Sarasota, Fla.; five stepsons, David Scribner of Uniontown, Don Scribner of Chester, Tom and Marty Denne, both of Fort Smith, and Scott Denne of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and 17 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David and Don Scribner and Tom, Marty, Scott and Ryan Denne.
Bonnie McAllister
Bonnie Lee McAllister, 83, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was a member of Cedarville Assembly of God and a homemaker. She was the widow of Doyle McAllister.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial will be at Gracelawn cemetery of Van Buren.
She is survived by a daughter, Wanda Alexander of Van Buren; two sons, Paul McAllister of Mountainburg and Norman McAllister of Van Buren; a brother, Ray Morgan of Alma; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Marvin Stout, Mark Kelly, Kevin McAllister, Michael and Joe Alexander Jr. and Dennis Osman.
The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mary Pope
POCAHONTAS — Mary Alice Pope, 86, of Pocahontas died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at a Hendersonville, Tenn., hospital. She was born in Van Buren, was a member of the O’Bryan pioneer family and a former teacher at Old Rena School. She was the widow of Charles Everett Pope.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas. Burial will be at Randolph Memorial Gardens in Pocahontas.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy Jenkins of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Donna Breen of Van Buren; a son, Earl Pope of River Ridge, La.; two sisters, Beatrice Coffinbarger of San Jose, Calif., and Wallace Harer of Susanville, Calif.; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Shaun Lusk, Rick Jenkins, Jim Black, Bob Whitney, Ray Snodgras and Jerry Sallee.
Odar Mays
PENCIL BLUFF — Odar Mays, 84, of Pencil Bluff died Friday, Aug. 24, 1999, in Eugene, Ore. He was born in Cherry Hill and worked for Weyerhaeuser Company as a dry-kiln stacker for 10 years. He was a poultry farmer.
Graveside service was held Sept. 1, 1999, at Cherry Hill cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by his wife, Rosebell Mays; a daughter, Frances Fair of Pencil Bluff; a son, David of Springfield, Ore.; a sister, Elsie Mae Wilhite of Mena; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Dale, Carl and Dugan Elder, Darrell Wilhite, Wayne Singleton and Dennis Garmon.

COVE — Thomas “Tommy” Brock, 21, of Cove died Thursday, Aug. 30, 1999, in Cove. He was born in DeQueen and worked for Ouachita Post as a post feeder. He was a Baptist.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Witherspoon cemetery in Vandervoort under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by his parents, Charlie and Faye Brock of Cove; a sister, Loretta Brock of Cove; six half sisters, Joyce Bullard, Edith McClard of Talihina, Okla., Debbie Hall of Hollis, Okla., Deanna Brock of Mena, Cathy Richey of Cove and Barbara Jean Walker of Oklahoma City; a brother, Chris Brock of Cove; four half brothers, Wayne Brock of Lamar, Doyle Brock and Roger Brock, both of Oklahoma City, and Johnny Brock of Hatfield; his maternal grandfather, John Lewis Collins of Idabel, Okla.; and his fiancee, Cindy Scheppmann of Cove.
Pallbearers will be Virgil Butler, James Gibbons, Todd Fair, Leroy Arthur, Virgil Henry and Jerry Wickel.
Khamsay Chanthavong
Khamsay Chanthavong, 55, of Fort Smith died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at his home. He was employed at OK Foods and was a Buddhist.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Renee Chanthavong; and two sons, Khaythong Chanthavong and Bobby Chanthavong, both of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Thongphanh Vichitvongsa, Khamxao Inthavong, Sengehanh Vongkhamchanh, Thao Sayakoummane, Vong Sihasombath and Khamphanh Phanphengdee.
