Elnora R. Bickell

WALNUT RIDGE -- Elnora R. Bickell, 74, of Walnut Ridge died Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born at Kansas City, Mo., she was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include three nieces; two nephews; several great nieces and nephews, including Lisa Fisher and Jeremy Fisher, both of Walnut Ridge; and several great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bickell.

A private memorial service may be held later by the family in Topeka, Kan. Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie is in charge of local arrangements.

Melvin Hildred Caples

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Melvin Hildred Caples, 78, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., formerly of Bono, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, at his residence.

Born at Bono, he was retired from National Vendors in St. Louis and was of the Baptist faith. He married Lelmer Henson at Bono.

Survivors include his wife, Lelmer Henley; two daughters, Wanda Taylor of St. Charles, Mo., and Barbara Gilton of Poplar Bluff; a brother, Raymond Caples of Elkville, Ill.; five sisters, Louise Hildabrant of New Jersey, Jane Boeckstiegel of Fenton, Mo., Rita Cressey of Ava, Ill., Glenda Lane of Ash Flat and Sharon Walton of Florissant, Mo.; and six grandchildren, Ray Gilton Jr., Sherrie Anderson, James Taylor, Brian Taylor, Stacey Taylor and Jason Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mattie Sims Caples; a brother; and a sister.

Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 22, at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff with the Rev. Eddie Conover officiating. Burial was in Sparkman Cemetery at Butler County, Mo.

Donald Edward Chaffin

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. -- Donald Edward Chaffin, 63, of Redondo Beach, formerly of Trumann, died Monday, Oct. 24, at NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born at Trumann, he lived in Redondo Beach since 1963. He was a retired maintenance supervisor at Chevron Oil Company in El Segundo, Calif., where he worked for 30 years. He was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Chaffin of the home; a daughter, Donna Faye Heltsley of Redondo Beach; a son, Michael Wayne Chaffin of Torrance, Calif.; a sister, Mona Jean Forbes of Roseburg, Ore.; a brother, Charles Chaffin of Roseburg; and two grandchildren, Spencer Heltsley and Emily Heltsley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanford and Mildred Lowery Chaffin.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Gregg Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Harrison officiating. Burial will be private with Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge.

Andrew William "Drew" Crawford

PARAGOULD -- Andrew William "Drew" Crawford, 25, of Paragould died Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Born at Paragould, he was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his parents, Dr. Alan and Beverly Crawford of Paragould; his grandmothers, Billye Crawford of Tuckerman and Zela Rhoads of Glencoe.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Alfred William Crawford and R. G. Rhoads.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Mitchell Funeral Home at Paragould with Scott Neathery officiating. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Tuckerman.

Pallbearers will be Brent Seay, Bryan Seay, Jonathan Seay, Keith Adams, Norman Smith and Chris Patterson.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Mental Health Association.

Allie Viola Draffen

CARDWELL, Mo. -- Allie Viola Draffen, 90, of Cardwell died Tuesday, Oct. 25, at her residence.

Born at Bertig, she was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Full Gospel Church in Cardwell.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Dodd of Memphis and Nettie Pennington of Cardwell; four sons, Dallas Draffen of Kennett, Mo., William Ray Draffen of Montgomery, Ala., Thomas Draffen of Ozark, Mo., and Roy Draffen of Paragould; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Draffen; her parents, Edgar and Nettie Sorrell Grady; a brother; a sister; a granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Leland DeMent officiating. Burial will follow at Cardwell Cemetery under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Sandra Kay Gray

MONETTE -- Sandra Kay Gray, 54, of Monette died Tuesday, Oct. 25, in Monette.

Born at St. Louis, Mo., she lived in Monette for the past 15 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Jessica Gray of Monette; her parents, Bill and Deloris Fleetwood of Monette; and a sister, Vickey Fleetwood of Nashville, Tenn.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette with the Rev. Earnest Cornish and the Rev. Clarence Cornish officiating. Burial will follow in Monette Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Connie Cason, Scott McLaughlin, Shelby Cleghorn, Billy Joe Walls, Darrell Reed and Lloyd Bibb.

Honorary pallbearers will include Dr. Dennis Parten, Dr. Richard Fraiser and Kenny Lomax.

Gregg Funeral Home of Monette is in charge of arrangements.

Cherrie Lee Kercheval

POCAHONTAS -- Cherrie Lee Kercheval, 66, of Pocahontas died Tuesday, Oct. 25, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born at Billings, Mont., she served her country in the Navy. She was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church in Pocahontas.

Survivors include her husband, John Kercheval of the home; two daughters, Trinka Brooks of Maynard and Cheryl Kercheval of Pocahontas; a son, James Kercheval of Hannibal, Mo.; a brother, James DeLashmutt of Monroe City, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Lee and Marjorie Bowers West.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Cox-Waymon Funeral Home of Pocahontas with Glenn Pettus officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery at Pocahontas.

Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Carolyn J. Settlemoir

PIGGOTT -- Carolyn J. Settlemoir, 57, of Piggott died Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Northeast Arkansas Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born at Pollard.

Survivors include a daughter, Melanie LaDawn Midkiff of McCook, Neb.; a son, Anthony Boyd Settlemoir of Campbell, Mo.; her mother, Blanche Russell of Piggott; five sisters, Pearl Frederick of Ash Flat, and Rosie Smith, Lucille Moore, Clara Estep and Helen Gilmore, all of St. Louis, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Jessica Lauren Midkiff and William Chase Midkiff.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Settlemoir; and a brother.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Gravel Hill Cemetery in St. Francis with Loy Culver officiating. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today.

Leo F. Smith

HORSESHOE BEND -- Leo F. Smith, 85, of Horseshoe Bend died Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.

Born at Danvers, Ill., he was a veteran of the Army, having served during World War II. He was a retired farmer, a former member of the Lions Club and a member of the AARP and the Illinois Club. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Horseshoe Bend.

Survivors include his wife, Neva O. Smith of the home; two sons, Larry Smith of Gridley, Ill., and Terry Smith of Batesville; three stepsons, Bob Renfro of Baton Rouge, La., David Renfro of Lubbock, Texas, and Dick Renfro of Clovis, N.M.; two stepdaughters, Sue Gallagher of Wheeler, Texas, and Mary Huckert of Sapulpa, Okla.; a brother, Duane Smith of Normal, Ill.; a sister, Dorothy McClure of Bloomington, Ill.; a grandchild; 12 stepgrandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hudson Cemetery in Hudson, Ill., with William Vandevoort officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Horsehoe Bend Memorial Chapel of Horsehoe Bend.
