Charlicey M. Barton
Charlicey M. Barton, 84, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Luana Pershall.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with graveside service at 2 p.m. at Bethesda cemetery in Lincoln under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Barton of the home; two daughters, Gloria Shannon and husband Jim of Fort Smith and Faye Villines and husband Richard of Van Buren; a son, Gene Barton Jr. and wife Beverly of Shreveport, La.; one sister, Evelyn Doss of Stillwater, Okla.; and 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Van Buren.
Howard Doyle “Tincy” Laymon
Howard Doyle “Tincy” Laymon, 65, of Clarksville passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, in Clarksville. He was born June 4, 1939, in Moyers, Okla. Mr. Laymon was truck driver and a veteran of the Army. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas R. and Nancy E. (Williams) Laymon; two brothers, Jerry and Waymon Laymon.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at Old Bokoshe cemetery in Bokoshe under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau. Officiating will be the Rev. Troy Conrad.
He is survived by a sister, Roberta Pearson of Lavaca; and two brothers, Thomas and Larry Laymon, both of Bokoshe; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and loved ones; many beloved friends.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Benny Spears
Mr. Benny Spears, 47, of Fayetteville passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, in Fayetteville. He was born Feb. 5, 1958, in Fort Smith to Benjamin Eugene and Virginia (Wycoff) Spears.
He attended Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville and was a member of Fayetteville-Springdale Elk’s Lodge No. 1987.
Benny was the owner of Herman’s Rib House in Fayetteville, as well as Outlaw Disco Production, where he was the DJ for many functions around Fayetteville. He also was lead singer and bongo player for the band The Dead Crows, where he said he had some of the best times of his life.
Benny will be greatly missed by many, many friends from all walks of life. Benny never met a stranger and was always the life of the party. There was never a boring moment when Benny was around, he was larger than life. He was truly a friend to all that met him and we are all suffering the loss of our best friend. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Caitlin Spears.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Conrow Spears; two daughters, Sarah and Hannah Spears of the home; one son, Matthew Spears of the home; three brothers, Mark Spears of Tulsa, and David Spears and Richard Spears, both of Fort Smith; one halfsister, Judy Luers of Downey, Calif.; one halfbrother, Dick Spears of Arlington, Va.; and a very special friend of the family, J.T. Crawley of the home.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville with the Rev. J. Anthony Holifield officiating. Private burial service will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heather Spears Foundation, P.O. Box 3057, Fayetteville, AR 72702. This was a foundation that Benny founded in memory of his daughter to benefit kids with scholarships.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home and Crematory of Fayetteville.
Walter “Jack” Earl Gaither
Walter “Jack” Earl Gaither, 89, a lifelong resident of Cameron, passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at his daughter’s home in Cameron. He was born Dec. 15, 1915, in Baxter County to Jerry and Dora Gaither.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lora Gaither; a granddaughter, Cathy Fox; his parents, Jerry and Dora Gaither; two sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Vida Russell of Cameron; sister, Ruth Miller of Hackett; one granddaughter, Jennifer Davidson of Witcherville; two grandsons, Ronald Fox of Cameron and Stacy Fox of Booneville; three great-granddaughters; three great-grandson; two stepgreat-granddaughters; one great-great-grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Cameron with the Rev. Barry Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhill cemetery in Cameron under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at McConnell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Dirk Gaither, Michael Archey, Dan Hutchison, Donald Johnson, John Fox and Levi Easton.
Frank L. Workman
Frank L. Workman of Natural Dam went home to be with the Lord on Sunday evening, Feb. 20, 2005, at the age of 87. He was a member of the Grandview Assembly of God in Natural Dam.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, May Workman, and six children. Four daughters, Rose Ann Goss of Alma, and Elanor Workman Keneipp, Jane Workman and June Workman Campbell, all of Tulsa; two sons, Grant Workman and Russ Workman, both of Natural Dam; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
There will be no funeral. His loving spirit that shined through his beautiful blue eyes remains a constant encouragement. We love and miss him and he will in our hearts forever. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection, and the life; he who believes in me will live even though he dies.” John 11:25.

Sylvia L. Hartsfield
Mrs. Sylvia L. Hartsfield, 83, of Fort Smith passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, in Fort Smith. She is retired from James River Dixie Products and a member of Goddard United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Circle 8 Women’s Group, and Women’s Board of Methodist Nursing Home. She is preceded in death by her husband, Orval Hartsfield.
Services will be Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Fentress Mortuary Chapel with burial at New cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
Mrs. Hartsfield is survived by her sons, John and wife Sheila Hartsfield of Hot Springs Village and Bruce Fred and wife Diane of Rogers; one sister, Betty Parker of Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren, Bob, John Jr., Faith and Jason Hartsfield; six great-grandchildren, Lauren, Alec, Shawn, Reid, Zachary and Haley Hartsfield.
Pallbearers will be Bob, John Jr., Faith, Jason, John and Bruce Fred Hartsfield.

Winona Porter
Winona M. Porter, 92, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Lutheran Church, and the widow of Earl Porter.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Fort Smith with burial to follow at Oak cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Earline Dahlem of Fort Smith and Francie Mann of Huntington; one son, Sandy Porter of Fort Smith; one sister, Mildred Gillilan of Fort Smith; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Scott and Mark Porter, Stuart and Dan Britting, Jason Patillo and Bill Mann.

CHARLESTON — Callie Sue Harris, 90, of Charleston died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born July 26, 1914, in Havana. She was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church in Charleston, and the widow of Bascom Harris.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Charleston with burial Havana cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Hall of Mena; two sons, Mike Harris of Fort Smith and Donny Harris of Gainesville, Fla.; a sister, Johnnie Still of Branch; a brother, Jim Frazier of Havana; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Clay Harris, Larry Goddard, and Bruce, Mark, Scott and Anthony Hall.
Ora Shatwell
CLARKSVILLE — Ora Shatwell, 93, of Clarksville died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, in Clarksville. She was born March 11, 1911, in Hagarville. She was the widow of Clyde Shatwell and a Baptist.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Holman cemetery in Clarksville.
She is survived by two daughters, Wanda White and Marie Lindsey, both of Clarksville; six sons, Dean, Freddie and Kenneth Shatwell, all of Clarksville, Delman Shatwell of Hagarville, Leroy Shatwell of Independence, Mo., and Redell Shatwell of Knoxville; 30 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Eddie and Freddie Lindsey, Roger, Dickey and Randall Shatwell and Matthew Brown.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Cleo Trussell
PARIS — Cleo Ramsey Trussell, 97, of Paris died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, in Paris. She had a master’s degree, was a retired schoolteacher and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Paris, and was the widow of Benjamin Trussell.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris with burial at Ware’s Chapel cemetery (Dublin) in Scranton.
She is survived by two sisters, Doris Walker of Little Rock and Blanche Dobbs of Brevard, N.C.
Pallbearers will be R.L. and Dan Gray, John and Ramsey Walker, Steve Brown and Larry Collier.
Elizabeth Bowman
WICHITA, Kan. — Elizabeth Audell Gant Bowman, 82, of Wichita, formerly of Fort Smith, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005. She was retired from Beech Aircraft Manufacturing as a support employee and the widow of John Bowman.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita.
She is survived by two daughters, Jan Schultz and Tracey McAdam, both of Wichita; a son, Mike of Benton; a brother, Dennis Gant of Metarie, La.; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Vern Doose
Vern Doose, 87, of Pueblo, Colo., formerly of Fort Smith, was born Oct. 20, 1917, and passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005. He was preceded in death by his wives, Carmen Doose and Dorothy Doose; a daughter, Patricia Martin; his parents; and a granddaughter, Stacie Law.
Survived by his children, Michael and wife Linda Standley, Ronald Standley, Jack and wife Lucille Doose, Russell and wife Martha Doose, and Carol and husband Ray Zupancic; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives; special friends; and his cat, Hobo. Vern loved gardening, playing golf and spending time with his children.
Viewing will be held 4 to 8 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Lewis Funeral Chapel with interment at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pauline Beecham
Pauline Beecham, 83, of Greenwood died Saturday, March 5, 2005, in Greenwood. She worked at Farmers Bank, Greenwood Industries, Dunn’s Flower Garden, and Elmore’s Five and Ten. She was a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Order of the Eastern Star and was chosen by the church as “Valentines Sweetheart, 2004.” Her husband, George Beecham, preceded her in death.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, at the Greenwood United Methodist Church with burial at Dawson cemetery in Milltown under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Survivors are one son, Royce Beecham of Fort Smith; one daughter, Linda Phillips of Diamond Head, Miss.; two brothers, Jerry Nichols of Greenwood and Paul Nichols of Woodland Hills, Calif.; one sister, Geraldine Collier of Rock Island, Ill.; three grandchildren, Deanna Hampton, Kelly Layman and Tim Beecham; two step-grandchildren, Glenna Moss and Greg Chamblee; seven great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Sam Martin, Tim Layman, Stanley Roe, Larry Rodgers, Steve Floyd and Steve Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Williams, Charlie McGowan and Terrall Jones.
