Gracie Standridge
CLARKSVILLE, Ind. — Gracie Mae Standridge, 84, of Clarksville, Ind., formerly of Clarksville, Ark., died Saturday, March 19, 2005, in Jeffersonville, Ind. She was a homemaker and the widow of Homer Standridge.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Minnow Creek cemetery.
She is survived by four daughters, Susan Hoose of California, Mildred Hedger of Charlotte, N.C., Wilma Pottenger of Indiana and Bertha Meeks of Clarksville, Ind.; two sisters, Edith Rose of Maine and Sarah Buchanna of Missouri; a brother, Hoyt Minney of Hot Springs; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Eric Hartzel, Dan Rowe, Clint Melton, Keith Brown, Brent Mason and Travis Rutledge.
The body may be viewed 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Marie Fant
Marie Fant, 88, of Fort Smith died Sunday, March 20, 2005, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker, a member of Assembly of God, was Miss Fort Smith and won Miss District 2.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren.
She is survived by five daughters, Wanda Wright of Weiner, Bertha George of Van Buren, Helen Vanbrunt, Sherry Crabtree and Juanita Voelkel, all of Fort Smith; three sons, Al Jones of Mountain View, Willie Jones of Fort Smith and J.D. Jones of Little Rock; 29 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be J.C., Leon and Bill Green, Terry Tuck, Keith Schyneder and Kenneth Voelkel.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren.

Elsie Johnson
MENA — Elsie Cooper Johnson, 95, of Mena died Monday, March 21, 2005, in Mena. She was born Jan. 11, 1910, in Patmos. She was a nurse at Polk County Memorial Hospital, a homemaker, a member of First United Methodist Church and the widow of William Johnson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be members of First United Methodist Church.

Richard Steele
WALDRON — Richard Steele, 85, of Waldron died Monday, March 21, 2005, in Waldron. He was a 101st Airborne Army veteran of World War II and retired from the City of Lawton, Okla.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hon cemetery in Hon under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
He is survived by two sisters, Keren Lewelling of Lawton, Okla., and Loretta Tobias of Apple Valley, Calif.
The body may be viewed 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mason Hollifield
BURLINGTON, W.Va. — Mason Luke Berton Hollifield, infant son of O’Shea and Shannan Puckett of Burlington, W.Va., died Sunday, March 20, 2005, in Keyser, W.Va. He was born March 16, 2005, in Petersburg, W.Va.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith Funeral Home Burlington Chapel with burial at Burlington cemetery.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Brenda and Windy Hollifield, both of the home; three brothers, Brandon, Wesley and Morgan Hollifield, all of the home; paternal grandparents, Berton and Ursula Baltzer of Front Royal, Va., and Brenda Hartman of Manassas, Va.; maternal grandparents, Richard Hollifield of Charlottesville, Va., Sherry Hollifield of Harrisonburg, Va., and Joey and Betsy Kopcinski of Hartford; maternal great-grandmother, Shelby McWilliams of Harrisonburg; and maternal great-great-grandmother, Frances Malley of Bridgewater, Va.
The family will visit with friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Susanna Wurst
Susanna Pulliam Wurst, 84, of Fort Smith died Monday, March 21, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and First Baptist Church in Delaware.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Delaware with burial at Graves cemetery in Delaware under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Huston; two daughters, Betty Cassady of Fort Smith and Katy Avlos of Birmingham, Ala.; two sons, Dennis Wurst of Dardanelle and Steve Wurst of Spiro; two sisters, Rosella Wright of Waldorf, Md., and Louise Byczek of Woodward, Okla; two brothers, Franklin and Donovan Pulliam of Fort Smith; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandhcildren.
Pallbearers are Reuben, Jason and Matthew Avlos, David Cassady, Ardon Wurst and Steven Wurst Jr.
The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 70, Delaware, AR 72835.

Lola Fain
Lola B. Fain, 79, of Van Buren died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, in a local hospital. She was of the Pentecostal faith, a homemaker and the widow of J.C. Fain.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Hall cemetery near Natural Dam under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Oliver of Van Buren; two sisters, Lizzie Shellers of Wyoming and Margie Sperly of Colorado; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jackie, Michael, Kiefer, Kevin and Joshea Neal and Wade Oliver.

LaVerna Winborn
LaVerna Winborn, 87, of Alma entered into rest Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 17, 1917, in Alma, the daughter of the late William and Emily Basham. She was a former employee of Alma Day Care Center, a member of New Heights Baptist Church, the widow of the late Monroe Winborn and was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Norman Melton. Survivors include one son, Dwight Winborn of Buena Vista, Colo.; daughter, Louise Melton of Springdale; two sisters, Ann Morrell of Mulberry and Kathleen Wilkerson of Fort Smith; grandsons, Monroe, Hopkins and G.W. Winborn, all of Dallas, and Kerry Melton of Springdale; and three great-grandchildren, Victoria and Hayden Winborn and Jaylen Melton.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at New Heights Baptist Church in Alma with burial at Evergreen cemetery in Alma. Pallbearers will be Monroe, Hopkins, and G.W. Winborn, Kerry Melton, Carl Valentine and Roger Wilkerson. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul and James Winborn, Jim Byars, Sam Wilkerson and Terrell Morrell. Memorials may be sent to New Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 1003 Rudy Road, Alma, AR 72921. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.

Ms. Janet Kymer
Ms. Janet Kymer, 51, died peacefully in her home Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Fort Smith, she was the daughter of Mrs. Barbara Kymer and the late Bob Kymer.
Janet attended Kimmons Junior High School and graduated in 1971 from Northside High School. A cheerleader at Kimmons, she was active in the French Club and the Junior Council during her high school days.
After one year at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, she completed the nursing program at Westark Community College, now UA Fort Smith. A registered nurse for more than 30 years, she worked in offices of local physicians, both hospitals, the health department and nursing homes.
A nurturer and caregiver by nature, she was often generous to a fault. At nursing homes, she was particularly sensitive to those residents who did not have frequent visitors or needed items not otherwise provided. She loved people, her friends in particular; also reading, Mexican food, music and the color purple. She enjoyed fishing — so much that she always carried an inflatable boat and fishing gear with her. Her friends recall that she was the champion “hula hoopster” among them. A true Arkansan, she was an avid Razorback fan.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Steve Chafin; one sister, Patti Kymer of Little Rock; one brother, Ricky Kymer of Paris; and five nieces, Carly and Amy Kymer of Fort Smith and Emily, Abbi and Elle Kymer-Davis of Little Rock.
Funeral service is scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel, 4817 Kelley Highway, conducted by Chaplain Jane Kennedy. Burial will be at Roselawn cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Neal Hefner, Steve Knight, Pierce Farris, David Whitt, B.J. Davis and Ron Cole.
Following the service, friends are invited to visit with the family at the home of David and Jan Whitt, 9008 Copper Oaks, Fort Smith (Canterbury Cove).
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Sebastian County, P.O. Box 10953, Fort Smith. Janet loved cats, particularly the four she leaves behind.

Archie R. King
Archie R. King, 82, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, in a nursing home. He was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Charleston. He was the widower of Elaine King, who died Feb. 12, 2003. He was a graduate of Charleston High School in 1942 and a graduate of LaSalle University in Chicago. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8322 and retired from Continental Bank in Chicago. He was preceded in death by two sons, James and Michael; his parents, James and Lillie Ann; brothers, Clifton, Basil, Terrel, Charles, Audy, Oscar, Raymond, William and Harold.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by a daughter, Amy King; a son, James King of Naperville, Ill.; and three grandchildren, James Jr., Edmund and Leif.

Ben Schmitz
Ben Schmitz, 93, of Scranton died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, in Paris. He was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Scranton and the Catholic Knights of America. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and July Dillier Schmitz; his wife, Ageline Kern Schmitz; one son, Harold Bernard Schmitz; two brothers, Tony and Ed Schmitz; and one sister, Regina Becker.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Scranton. Mass and burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by three daughters, Jeanette Wade and Florence Frederick, both of Paris, and Anna Mullen of Jamestown, N.Y.; four sisters, Louise Geels of Morrison Bluff, Betty Becker of Barling, Freda Schmalz and Dorothy Schneider, both of Paris; a brother, Joe Schmitz of Conway; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Roy Smith
HACKETT — Roy W. Smith, 85, of Hackett, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a retired sales representative for Dana Corp. and a member of Hackett United Methodist Church. He was the widower of Geraldine Smith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hackett United Methodist Church with burial at Mountain View cemetery in Hackett under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by two sons, Richard Smith of Dallas and Dr. David Smith of White Hall; and four grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family will visit with friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marianna Lewis
Marianna Lewis, 85, of Fort Smith died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 14, 1919, in Berryville. She was retired as director of communications for Fort Chaffee, was a member and past national president of Chi Sigma Sorority and was a member of Central Christian Church, where she was a TLC member, and a member of PBX Club. She was the widow of Amel Lewis.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Dillard and Reba Woodard, both of Fort Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alpha XI Chapter and Chi Sigma Sorority.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church Building Refurbishing Project, 400 N. Waldron Road, Fort Smith, AR 72903.

Rose Clement
MENA — Rose Marie Clement, 49, of Mena died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, in an area hospital. She was born Dec. 27, 1954, in Grand Junction, Colo. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Lower Big Fork cemetery.
She is survived by a sister, Susan Dollarhyde of Mena; and a brother, Danny Clement of Grand Junction, Colo.
