Roy Burks
MENA — Roy Lee Burks, 62, of Mena died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, in Mena. He was born Jan. 7, 1942, in Colorado City, Texas. He worked in maintenance for Arkansas Log Homes.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date; the body will be cremated under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; three daughters, Angie Ham of Mena, Vickie Williams of Ocotillo, Calif., and Paula Bailey of Poteau; and six grandchildren.
Charlie Wait
Charlie R. Wait, 86, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, in a local hospital. He was a retired Army veteran of World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars, was of the Protestant faith and the widower of Pauline Wait.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with burial and full military honors at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by two sisters, Erma Rowe of Hope and Winnie Kight of Hot Springs; and three brothers, Fred, Thomas and William Wait, all of Hot Springs.
Pallbearers will be Brad Yearby, Glen Kight, David Allbritton, Roy Rowe, Robert Waite, Dr. Richard Hinkle and Stephanie Yearby.
Honorary pallbearers will be Beverly Healthcare employees of Van Buren.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Robert Sabin Jr.
Robert Ray Sabin Jr., 47, of Van Buren died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, in his home. He was a member of the Homestead Heights Community Church and a self-employed electrician.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Hall cemetery arbor near Natural Dam under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by one son, Dakota Sabin of Van Buren; his mother, Hazel Sabin of Van Buren; one sister, Sheila Sabin of Van Buren; one brother, David Sabin of Van Buren; one stepsister, Tenise Gardner of Roland; two stepbrothers, Greg Reynolds of Brushy, Okla., and David Davies of Little Rock; and one granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be Mike, Eric, Melvin, Willie and James Jones, Danny Garrett and Richard Philphott.
Buster Thompson
LITTLE ROCK — Buster B. Thompson, 95, of Little Rock died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004 in Springdale. He was born April 13, 1909, in Bunker, Mo. He is retired from Alcoa Aluminum and was the widower of Katie Thompson.
Funeral was held Wednesday at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Funeral Chapel in Little Rock with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
He is survived by one daughter, Martha Garner of Greenwood; one brother, Bill Thompson of California; two sisters, Mary Bradshaw of North Little Rock and Pauline Laurent of Kansas; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Vincent Mitchell
Vincent Keith Mitchell, 33, of Fort Smith, formerly of Saucier, Miss., died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was a graduate of Harrison Central High School in Lyman and the widower of Angela Mitchell.
A memorial service was held 3:30 p.m. Friday at Riemann Funeral Home in Gulfport, Miss.
He is survived by one daughter, Baylee Mitchell; one son, Conner Mitchell; his parents, Vincent and Pat Mitchell of Saucier; one brother, Tony Mitchell of Charlotte, N.C.; his grandparents, Mildred Tanner of Sacramento, Calif., and Barney Mitchell of Saucier.
An education trust fund has been established at Hancock Bank for his children.
Janet Kymer
Janet Lee Kymer, 51, of Fort Smith died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was born July 18, 1953, in Fort Smith. She was a retired nurse and of the Methodist faith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel with burial at Roselawn cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Chafin; her mother, Barbara Kymer of Fort Smith; one sister, Patti Kymer of Little Rock; and one brother, Rickey Kymer of Paris.
Pallbearers will be Steve Knight, Neal Hefner, David Whitt, B.J. Davis, Pierce Farris and Ron Cole.
Rudy Davis
MOUNTAINBURG - Rudy "Buster" Davis, 80, Mountainburg (Fern community) died Sunday, April 3, 2005, in his home. He was a member of Fern Assembly of God and a retired farmer and timberman.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fern Assembly of God with burial at Brewer cemetery in Franklin County under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
He is survived by his wife, Velma; four daughters, Karla Jones of Mulberry, Leadeena Nichols of Mountainburg, Polly Brammer of Alma, and Becky Sisk of Dyer; two sisters, Ruby Overbey of Fern community and Betty Huggins of Dyer; a brother, Curtis Davis of White Rock; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Wade and Phillip Jordan, DeWayne and Harold Davis, Ricky Ross and William Skadden.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
James Willis "Witty" Black
A gentle, loving and caring soul went home on Saturday, April 2, 2005. James Willis "Witty" Black passed away at the age of 63 at Sparks Hospital's Palliative Care Wing surrounded by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bob and Dora Mae Black of Hackett.
"Wid," as his family and friends called him, proudly served his country in the Air Force and served during the Vietnam War at the air base in Thailand. He was the crew chief for military planes and continued his love for those planes and the service they required by preserving them in the pictures he painted. Following his military service, Wid worked for Dixie Cup and for the J.B. Automotive Products Co. As his health began to fail, he retired to the home to enjoy his family and his grandkids and his passion for collecting die-cast cars.
Wid is survived by his wife, Pat of the home in Hackett; one son, Darin Black of Hackett; one daughter and son-in-law, Tracie and Mike Opolka of Hackett; six grandchildren, Marine Lance Cpl. J.J. Sweeten, currently serving in Okinawa, Japan, Sarah Sue Ann Black of Charleston, Megan and Brandon Black of Greenwood, Chase and Sydnie Opolka of Hackett. Wid is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma and Gary Carter of Hackett and their children, Pam and John Bloemhof of Stephensville, Texas, and their children, Shea, Lindsay and Tanner, Brad and Lisa Smith of Hackett and their children, Erica and Derek Hodges, Jacob Smith, Brian and Angie Smith and their children, Matthew, Kristina and William, and Buffy and Wade Bennett of Hackett and their two boys, Garrett and Logan, and Wayne Carter. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Johnny James of Fayetteville, and their son, John Dell and granddaughter Alexa James. Wid has many loving extended family members as well. He was beloved by his mother and father-in-law, Herman and Patsy Stout of Fort Smith; his sister-n-law, Terry Priest and her daughter Katie of Fort Smith and her daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Thom Krag, currently serving in Germany. There are many many loving friends who are considered family as well.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family visiting from 6 to 8 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood. Please join us in fellowship and the rejoicing of the life of this extraordinary man at a service to be held on April 6 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Hackett under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home. The Rev. Bart Baker, the Rev. Danny Owenby, and the Rev. Lester Black will officiate. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill cemetery, where Wid will be placed next to his beloved mother and father.
Pallbearers will be David Hamilton, John Bloemhof, Brad Smith, Wade Bennett, Derek Hodges and Brian Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Farrar, Leon Wiley, Jimmy Dale Black, Paul Irvin, Gary Carter, Johnny James and William McBride.

Raymond Jiles Sr.
Raymond Jiles Sr., 72, of Van Buren died Sunday, April 3, 2005, in his home. He was a retired grinder at U.S. Forgecraft in Fort Smith, he served in the Army during the Korean War and he was a member of the United Auto Workers for 23 years.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Jiles.
He is survived by his wife, Frances of the home; five daughters, Sarah Johnson of Muldrow, Dolores Mader of Hackett, Brenda Barnes of Roland, Wanda Benning of Roland, and Kay Geisbauer of Fort Smith; one son, Raymond Jiles Jr. of Muldrow; one sister, Dorothy Roskoski of Tulsa; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Gill cemetery Arbor under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway in Van Buren.
Thelma L. Wilcox
Thelma L. Wilcox, 89, of Fort Smith died Saturday, April 2, 2005, in a local hospital. She was born March 5, 1916, in Crawford County and was a retired seamstress, a member of Bluff Avenue Baptist Church and the widow of Robert E. Wilcox.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Lewis Funeral Chapel with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by four sons, Lee Wilcox and wife Kay of Fort Smith, Harold Wilcox of Jackson, Miss., Ronald Wilcox and wife Barbara of Van Buren, and Virgil Wilcox of Barling; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family will visit with friends 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Hot Springs - Cheryl G. Good Fowler, 62, of Hot Springs Village, Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away Friday, May 18, 2007.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, May 23 at Faith Lutheran Church of Hot Springs Village with Pastor Mark Carnahan officiating.
