Donnamarie Fox
Donnamarie Fox, 55, of Jonesboro, died Nov. 26, 2003, at Three Rivers Nursing Center in Marked Tree.

Born in Walnut Ridge, she was a longtime resident of Chicago and a graduate of the University of Illinois. She had worked as a corporate manager and was a member of Southwest Church of Christ in Jonesboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Gladys Caraway; and a sister.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Fox; a brother, Ernest Caraway, Jonesboro; and a sister, Patsy Caraway, Lafayette, Colo.

A memorial service was Saturday at 11 a.m. at Southwest Church of Christ.

Memorials may be made to the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society.

Velda Louise Hoggard
Velda Louise Hoggard, 69, of Moline, Ill., died Nov. 19, 2003, at her home.

Born Feb. 17, 1934, at Saffell, she was a member of Calvary Church of the Quad Cities and was involved with the Active Daily Prayer Circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Azro and Dovie Irene Edwards Whitmire; a sister, Betty Ann Williams; and two brothers, Grant Whitmire and Millard Whitmire.

Survivors include her husband, Howard E. Hoggard, whom she married April 18, 1953, in Walnut Ridge; three daughters, Gwendolyn Millikan, Viola, Ill., and Jennifer Laud and Kimberly Thiessen, both of Moline; a son, Howard V. Hoggard, Mission Viejo, Calif.; a sister, Pauline Livingston, Batesville; four brothers, Alfred Whitmire, Clover Bend, Melvin Whitmire, Hoxie, John Whitmire, Colona, Ill., and James Whitmire, East Moline, Ill.; and five grandchildren, Austin Laud, Ashley Laud, Sara Henniger, Ryan Hoggard and Nicole Thiessen.

Funeral was Monday, Nov. 24, at Esterdahl Mortuary in Moline. Burial was in Moline Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Church of the Quad Cities or Bethany Home.

Vera Mae Howard
Vera Mae Howard, 84, of Newport, died Nov. 28, 2003, in Newport.

Born May 16, 1919, in Swifton, she was the daughter of O.D. and Ethel Mae Hatfield Mitts. She retired in 1975 after working for 21 years as a machine operator for the General Motors Corporation in Flint, Mich. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Newport.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lula Bell Jones; and a stepbrother, Ernest Kendricks. Survivors include two brothers, Coy Mitts, Strawberry, and Leslie Mitts, Monticello; two stepbrothers, Bobby Joe Ferrell and Gene Kendricks, both of Monticello; and two half-sisters, Flo Ella Bonds, Hamilton, Mich., and Fay Roseman, Tennessee.

Funeral was Monday at 2 p.m. at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Bros. Thom Stapleton and Ricky Jones officiating. Burial was in Balch-Johnston cemetery at Balch.

Jackie Lady
Jackie (Jolley) Lady, 80, of Albertville, Ala., formerly of Lauratown, died Nov. 23, 203, at her home.

She was an executive with First National Bank in Walnut Ridge, serving as a vice-president and cashier when she retired in 1987.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob J. Lady; and her parents, Forrest Furman Jolley and Anna Maude Vinyard.

Survivors include three sons, Don Livingston, Montgomery, Ala., Jeff Livingston, Lubbock, Texas, and Dick Livingston, Jasper, Ala.; a brother, Furman (Bill) Jolley Jr., Albertville, Ala.; and five grandchildren, Shane Livingston, Richard Livingston, Stephen Livingston, Holly Livingston and Kenitra Reaser.

Graveside service was Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Marshall Memorial Gardens. Adams Brown Service Funeral Home of Albertville, Ala., had charge of arrangements.

Myrtle Cordelia Maples
Myrtle Cordelia Maples, 89, of Jonesboro, died Nov. 27, 2003, at her home.

Born in the Lauratown community, she was the daughter of Jesse and Julia Cartwright Riley. She had lived in Jonesboro for 22 years after moving from the Oak Grove community near Egypt. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, a brother and a grandson.

Survivors include three daughters, Freida Williams and Mary Jo Maples, both of Jonesboro, and Linda Fort, Bono; a son, Bill Maples, Winter Haven, Fla.; a sister, Opal Jones, North Little Rock; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Graveside service was Saturday at 10 a.m. at Strangers Home cemetery near Alicia. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Verlin E. Prater
Verlin E. Prater, 71, of Jonesboro, died Nov. 29, 2003, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born at Egypt, he moved to Jonesboro in 1962.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Emma Prince Prater.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Ann Carter, Florence, Ala., and Diane Hollingsworth, Jonesboro; and a brother, Bill Prater, Jonesboro.

Graveside service was Sunday at 3 p.m. at Markham cemetery near Egypt under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home.

Marvin E. Smith
Marvin E. Smith, 76, of Swifton, died Nov. 24, 2003, at Swifton.

Born Aug. 24, 1927, in Swifton, he was the son of Homer P. and Vena Wilcox Smith. He worked as a computer technician for The Federal Aviation Commission. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Swifton Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Monie Reeves Smith; and two brothers, J.P. Smith and Jerry Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Mary K. Smith; two daughters, Mary Casoli and Donna Hammons, both of Southhaven, Miss.; two stepsons, Robert Templeton, Swifton, and David Templeton, St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, Ben Smith, Jonesboro, and Shelby Smith, Houston, Texas; a sister, Ann James, Swifton; 10 grandchildren, Chad Hammons, Caleb Hammons, Michael Casoli, Kim Ambroceni, Chelsea Hammons, Adam King, Brian Templeton, Nicholas Templeton, Clint Foster and Kristen Thielemier; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Friday at 10 a.m. at the Swifton Church of Christ with Darrell Douglas and Todd Rabalais officiating. Burial was in Arnold cemetery under the direction of Jackson's Newport Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Chad Hammons, Caleb Hammons, Michael Casoli, Brian Templeton, Nicholas Templeton, Clint Foster, Adam King and Kevin Thielemier.

Ruth Albright Stringer
Ruth Albright Stringer, 94, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Hoxie, died Nov. 24, 2003.

She was the daughter of A.G. and Annie Albright. She was an educator for 39 years, retiring in 1976. She was a recipient of the Nevada State Education Association Distinguished Service Award and the State Legislation Award. She was a past president of Delta Kappa Gamma and a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the American Association of University Women, Kappa Delta Pi, and PTA. She was a charter member of Teachers in Politics, League of Women Voters, Women's Democratic Club of Clark County, the Association of Childhood Education International and was named Clark County Educator Mom of The Year 1987. She was a former Girl Scout leader and was a member of First Southern Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.O. Stringer; a daughter, Sue Stringer; four brothers, Homer Albright, Shannon Albright Billy Albright and Woodrow Albright; and a sister, Variana Glidden.

Survivors include two brothers, Elmo Albright, Jackson, Miss., and Gus Albright, Little Rock; two sisters, Virginia Mesich and Rosemary Hamed, both of Akron, Ohio; and a grandson, Kevin Manley.

Graveside memorial services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park with Rev. Gerald Drope officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Alice Bernice Wooldridge
Alice Bernice Wooldridge, 60, of Bono, died Nov. 28, 2003, at St. Bernard's in Jonesboro, following a short illness.

Born Oct. 26, 1943, at Bono, she had lived in Rockford, Ill., for 30 years and moved to Bono six years ago. She was a member of the Bells Chapel Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Ella Hudson Hancock; two brothers, L.C. Hancock and James Hancock; and a sister, Pauline Jones.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry J. Wooldridge, whom she married Aug. 20, 1965; two sons, Jeff Wooldridge, Rockford, and Bruce Wooldridge, Wisconsin Dells, Wisc.; five brothers, Joe Hancock, Hoxie, Lester Hancock, Hartford, Ill., Tom Hancock, Kearney, Mo., and David Hancock and Paul Hancock, both of St. Louis; five sisters, Vaudine Hanks, Water Valley, Ky., Betty Brown, Sedgwick, Joyce Chapman, Bono, Linda Hancock, Kansas City, Mo., and Tina Lim, San Jose, Calif.; and a grandson, Jedidiah Wooldridge.

Funeral was Monday at 2 p.m. in Bryan Chapel with Bro. Byron Griffey officiating. Burial was in the Old Military cemetery at Sedgwick under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Frank Mullins, Dave Jones, Glen Swindle, Billy Wayne Brown, Ronnie Bales and Mikey Hancock.
