Marlys King

Funeral services for Marlys Romunder Pugh King, 96, of Greenville, MS, were held Sept. 12, 2005 at the First Baptist Church Chapel, with burial at the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Pugh Laney of Greenville, Ms; sons, Robert Pugh of Sherwood, and James Pugh of Brinkley; step-daughter, Ann King of Lakeland, FL; three step-sons, Wayne King of Atlanta, GA, David King of Fort Myers, FL, and Fred King of Arizona; eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Shirley Lois Carr

Shirley Lois Carr, 69, of Hensley, died Sept. 9, 2005.
She was of the Pentecostal faith and a retired employee of Homer’s Restaurant.
She is survived by her husband, Gilles Justice; sons, Larry Cheatham of Searcy and Gary Cheatham of Little Rock; her daughter, Karen Waters of Hensley; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Joyce Lybrand of Sherwood.
The funeral service was held Sept. 13, at the Roller-Drummond Southwest Chapel. Interment was in the Landmark cemetery.

Colleen A. Brown

Colleen Armstrong Brown, 75, of Sherwood, died Sept. 6, 2005.
Survivors include her son, Charles Lewis of Florida; one brother; three sisters; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 12 at the United Baptist Church. Interment was in the United Baptist cemetery. Arrangements were by the Larry G. Acklin Funeral Home in Conway.

Joyce E. Stanton

Joyce Elaine “MeMe” Stanton, 77, of Mt. Pine, died Sept. 11, 2005. She was a member of the Church of God in Little Rock, co-owner of Baseline Day Nursery, Southwest City Mobile Home Park and Cozy Acres Resort.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, R.C. Stanton; daughter Rita Garner of Little Rock; sons, Jim and Stanton of Houston, TX, and Dale Stanton of Hot Springs; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother Paul of Sherwood; and sisters, Joann Estes of Hot Springs and Mary Allen of North Carolina.

Funeral services were Wed., Sept. 14, at the Gross Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joe Thompson and Bro. Curtis Stillwell officiating. Burial will be in the Ten Mile cemetery at Benton.

Aaron J. Bailey

Aaron J. Bailey, 79, of Sherwood, died Sept. 12, 2005.
He worked for the railroad for 38 years as a switchman with Missouri Pacific Railroad (later Union Pacific). He was an Army veteran of World War II and was of the Christian faith.

He is survived by his son, George Bailey of Sherwood; and sister, Constance Dowden of Lincoln, NE.

A graveside service will be held Fri., Sept. 16, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park with Rev. Tom Hart officiating.

Visitation will be held Thursday 6 until 8 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock.

Oscar Moragne, Jr.

Oscar Moragne, Jr., 55, died Sept. 9, 2005. He was employed by VA Hospital in Little Rock.

His survivors include his daughters, Alicesia Dancy of Sherwood, and Nakisha Sanders of North Little Rock; sisters, Rebecca Thomas, Patricia Shirlee of Jacksonville, Judiah McFee, Janith Sanders, Lola Moragne all of Little Rock, Annice Randle of North Little Rock; brothers, Jackie Moragne, Edwin Moragne of Jacksonville, Lavern Trotter of North Little Rock, and Calvin Moragne of North Carolina; four grandchildren and four stepchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thurs., Sept. 15, at Gunn Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Fri., Sept. 16, at 10 a.m. at Leach Chapel C.M.E. Church, 307 North Palm Street, North Little Rock.

Mary Alene Riggs
Mary Alene Riggs, 67, of Walnut Ridge, died Sept. 7, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born in Arkansas, she lived in Hoxie before moving to Walnut Ridge 23 years ago. She was a homemaker and worked at the Walnut Ridge Convalescent Center for 16 years. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Karnes; her parents, Louie and Dorothy Willfond; and two brothers, Melvin Willfond and Edgar Willfond.

Survivors include her husband, Maxie Riggs; two daughters, Debra Cline, Lafe, and Tammy Brown, Ravenden; a brother, Louie Willfond Jr., Hoxie; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Thursday at 10 a.m. at the House-Gregg Chapel with Junior Meeker officiating. Burial will be in Duty cemetery, near Walnut Ridge.

Pallbearers will be Jordan Brown, Steven Holsten, Christopher Holsten, Gary Patton, Chad Depew and Cloyce Davidson.

Visitation is today from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

James Dale Bryant

James Dale (Jim) Bryant, 53, of Sherwood, died April 26, 2005.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Ella; one brother and two sisters all of Little Rock.

At his request he was cremated. A memorial will be held at a later date.

Christopher Honey

Christopher “Chris” O. Honey, 41, Sherwood, (formerly of Prescott) died May 2, 2005. He was a 1982 graduate of Prescott High School and a 1986 graduate of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He was owner/operator of Arkansas Corporation Research Co., and a life-long member of Central Baptist Church in Prescott.

His survivors include his mother, Betty Sue Campbell Honey, Hot Springs; and brother Marc Honey Hot Springs.

Funeral services were held May 6 at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel in Prescott. Burial was in Laneburg cemetery in Laneburg. Memorials may be made to Charity Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 1441 Emory St., Hot Springs, Ark. 71913.

Delbert Lee Pierce

Delbert Lee Pierce, 65, died May 7, 2005. He was a member of Military Road Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

Survivors include sisters, Lula Gautney of Lonoke, and Jean Holcomb of Sherwood.

Graveside services were held May 8, at Concord cemetery, Furlow.

Roger Powers

Roger Powers, 55, of North Little Rock, died May 7, 2005.
He was a member of Rock City Harvest Church of Sherwood.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Curt of St. John, IN, Michael of Indiana, and Tim of Scott; his father and mother, Jim and Ruby Powers of Clinton, TN; brothers, Robert of Mabelvale, Wayne of Clinton, TN; Herb of Morocco, IN, and Dwayne of Cedar Lake, IN; stepdaughters, Sandra Beshears of Loveland, CO, and Lynn of Wynne; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 10, 2005, at Rock City Harvest Church in Sherwood. Burial was at Gracelawn cemetery in Tuckerman.

Memorials may be made to UAMS Cancer Research, P.O. 55050, Little Rock, Ark. 72215 or Rock City Harvest Church, 10225 Hwy. 107 Sherwood, Ark. 72120.

Oral A. Smith

Oral A. Smith, 88, of Parsons, died May 5, 2005.
Funeral services were held May 9 at the First Baptist Church of Parsons.
Burial followed in the East Bethany cemetery near Parsons. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and may be sent to the funeral home, Box 942, Parsons, Kan. 67357.

He is survived by his wife, June Smith; a son and four daughters, including Orlena Neargarten, of Sherwood; 14 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a sister.

Leland Scott Robins
Leland Scott Robins, 51, of Strawberry, formerly of West Memphis, died Sept. 1, 2004, at the White River Medical Center in Batesville, following a lengthy illness.

Born Feb. 6, 1953, in Chicago, he was a computer programmer for the city of West Memphis and a member of the Strawberry Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Robins; and his grandparents, Ed and Lois Robins, and Melvin and Edith Ferguson.

Survivors include his parents, Charles Bernard and Martha Jo Ferguson Robins, Strawberry; a sister, Tammy Joe Barnett, Harrison; a niece, Lindsey Jones, Harrison, and a nephew, Lee Eric Jones, Harrison.

Memorial services will be announced later by Bryan Funeral Home.

Fannie B. Caldwell

Fannie Belle Caldwell, 86, of Hensley, died Sept. 25, 2005. She was a retired seamstress and a Baptist.

She is survived by her sons, Earl E. Caldwell of North Little Rock, and Garry T. Caldwell of Sherwood; sister, Louise Cranford of Redfield; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Sept. 28 at the Little Rock National cemetery. Arrangements were by Roller-Drummond Southwest.

Pamela Johns-McMinn

Pamela Ann Johns-McMinn, 49, of Sherwood, died Sept. 24, 2005. She worked at Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 30 years and was a member of the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Carmen and Ted Banks; husband, Junior Lee McMinn; step-sister, Renee Scott; half-brother, Billy Wayne Johns; daughter, Leisa McMinn-Carter; son, Chris McMinn; stepson, Norman McMinn; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Fri., Sept. 30, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Chapel, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock.Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 29, at Rest Hills. Memorial donations can be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (Pan-Can), 2141 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 7000, El Segundo, Calif. 90245.

Arthur Mason, Sr.

Arthur Ralph Mason, Sr., 88, of New Orleans, LA, formerly of Sherwood, died in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

He was the owner of Mason Electric in North Little Rock for many years. He was a 50-year member of Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge 754, serving as Master in 1962. He was also a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite Bodies. Arthur was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jacqueline Reed Mason; son, Arthur Ralph Mason, Jr., of McLean, VA; daughter, Joanne Mason Sealy of New Orleans; brother, Verlyn Mason of Bisbee, AZ; sisters, Opal Mason Andrews of Sherwood, and Hazel Mason Smith of Stuttgart; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted Thurs., Sept. 29, at Arkansas State Veterans cemetery, North Little Rock.

Arrangements were by Roller-Owens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Arkansas, 10411 West Markham, Little Rock 72205, or the Sylvan Hills Lodge 754 Scholarship Fund, Box 6221, Sherwood 72124.

Gene Robert Martin

Gene Robert Martin, 55, of Sherwood, died Sept. 26, 2005.
He was a salesman.

He is survived by his mother, Trudy Martin of Sherwood.
Arrangements by Cremation Association of Arkansas.
