Lisa Anne Sullivan

Lisa Anne Sullivan (Childers), 47, of Sherwood, died.
She is survived by her children, Scott, 14, and Whitney Hicks, 16, both of Sherwood, and Amber Hamilton Henson, 27, of Little Rock; two granddaughters; brothers, Mark and Michael Sullivan; and sister, Paula Driver.

She graduated from Little Rock’s Central High School class of 1976. She continued her education at the University of Arkansas. She was a Registered Nurse working in Little Rock and El Dorado.

Services will be held Fri., Sept. 30, 10 a.m., at Pulaski Heights Presbyterian, following a family visitation.

Burial will be in the Cooper cemetery in Malvern.Services were entrusted to Hardy Funeral Home.

Walter Lee Wilson

Walter Lee Wilson, 61, of Conway, died Sept. 25, 2005.
Survivors include his wife, Earnestine; sons, Zavier McFerguson of Little Rock, Lee and Rodney Wilson, both of Conway; daughter, Vickie Parker of Sherwood; brothers, James and Tollie Wilson, both of Little Rock; and sister, Betty Mitchell of Little Rock.

Funeral service will be held Fri., Sept. 30, 10 a.m., at the New Hope Baptist Church, 1851 Howard Street in Little Rock. Interment will be in the Arkansas State Veterans’ cemetery.

Mary R. Fox

Mary R. Fox, 81, of Sherwood, died Sept. 28, 2005.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann Sandmann; a son, Thomas Silcox; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Fri., Sept. 30, at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Jacksonville. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Terry Soth

Terry Soth, 61, of Cherokee Village, died Sept. 26, 2005.
He was employed as a Fiber optics cable splicer for Fibertel Contractors Inc. of Midway.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Soth; sisters Sandy Soth of Henderson, NV, Donna Manning of Fort Mojave, AZ, and Lisa Thomas of Saffell; brother, Bob Soth of Blacksburg, SC; step-children: Greg Floyd of Vilonia, Susan Davis of Panama City Beach, FL, and Brad Floyd of Sherwood; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial services were Thurs., Sept. 29 at the Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway.

Altie Bell Smith
Altie Bell Smith, 78, of Flippin, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Aug. 31, at the Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home.

Born in Newport, she was the daughter of Michael James and Rosie Pippenger. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Smith; a daughter; two sons; two granddaughters; a grandson; and two great-grandsons.

Survivors include six sons, Mark Smith, Jonesboro, Michael Smith and Danny Smith, both of Pocahontas, James Smith, Walnut Ridge, Terry Smith, Weiner, and Ricky Smith, Flippin; a daughter, Pauline Larson, Everett, Wash.; a brother, Mike Pippenger, Moses Lake, Wash.; 26 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Friday at 10 a.m. at Oak Grove cemetery with E. Winston Burton officiating. Langford-Bookout Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Diabetic Resources of Arkansas, 720 South Main St., Jonesboro, AR 72401.

Dorothy Marylee Black
Dorothy Marylee Black, 76, of Pocahontas, died Sept. 18, 2004, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born in Greene County, she was a homemaker and a member of the Northside Free Will Baptist Church in Pocahontas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.L. Black; a son, Joe Black; her mother, Bulen Allen Ozzley; and a brother, L.O. Chadwick.

Survivors include a son, Larry Black, Hoxie; three grandchildren, Wayne Black, Kim Black-Dakins and Margarett Black Jordan; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Monday at 1 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel in Paragould.

Joanetta S. Nichols

Joanetta Steppe Nichols was called home on Monday, September 26, 2005. She met Carlene at the Pearly Gates for the reunion that she awaited. This sweet, loving, and thoughtful daughter, mother, grandmother and friend to so many will be greatly missed by all. Joan’s hugs, kisses and keen sense of humor will keep everyone thinking of her always. She is one of the shining stars that have been called to serve with the Lord. Joanetta was born in Madisonville, Kentucky to Mattie and John Steppe on December 21, 1934.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Steppe; stepfather, Melvin Larkin; and her husband and childhood sweetheart Carlene C. Nichols. She is survived by her mother, Mattie I. Larkin; children, Kimala J. Forrest, Carletta (Jerry) Wilson, all of Jacksonville, Arkansas; Rochone (Cathy) Nichols of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Aramy and Qualenta Forrest, Cortessa, Jerica and Jeremy Wilson, and Ashley and Adreanna Nichols; an aunt, Lillian Lyles; uncle,Billy (Nita) Malone; and a half sister, Rosemarie Crenshaw as well as a host of cousins, many relatives and friends. Joan cherished her long friendships with Grace & Samuel Mills and Mary & Roland Corporal. A very special friend and confidante, Micheal Forrest was cherished by Joan for his dedication and love for she and Carlene.
Joan was baptized at Zion Temple, AME in Madisonville, Kentucky where she sang in the choir and served in Christ until she left for college. She graduated from Rosenwald High School and continued her education attending college at Tennessee State A & I, presently, Tennessee State University, where she graduated in 1955 with a BSE in Business Education. Joanetta was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She and Carlene were married in 1956 and raised a family together for 47 years. Joan worked for civil service for many years teaching pre-kindergarten on Tachikawa Air Force Base in Japan. After returning to the United States, Joan taught in North Carolina before moving to Arkansas in 1973, where she received a MSE in Educational Administration in 1984. She began her career with PCSSD in 1972 at Sylvan Hills Junior High as a typing teacher and dean of students; Jacksonville High School as Assistant Principal and Sylvan Hills School as Assistant Principal, until retiring in 2002. She loved working with children and certainly touched so many lives. She has earned her wings from God and will wear them proudly. Her genuine sincerity, honesty and love will be missed by her family, friends and acquaintances.

Family visitation will be held on Friday, September 30 from 6-8 p.m. at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home located at 1504 J.P. Wright Loop Road in Jacksonville. The funeral will be held on Saturday, October 1 at 11:00 a.m. St. Mark Community Church of Jacksonville on the corner of N. First and Martin Streets. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Joanetta Nichols Scholarship Fund at Arkansas Bank & Trust in Jacksonville that will be given to the Jacksonville and Sylvan Hills High campuses.

Pallbearers: Sammy Trantham, Rich Rodgers, Chris Dobbins, Michael Dobbins, Paul Twitty and Wayne Niles.

Honorary Pallbearers: Ezekiel Johnson, James C. Nichols, Jr., Johnny Nichols, Aramy Forrest, Jeremy Wilson, Eric Johnson, Jerry Wilson, Micheal Forrest.

Sharon Kay Cardin

Sharon Kay Cardin, 60, of Sherwood died March 24, 2003.

She is survived by her father, Ralph Elmer Clyde New of Quitman; three daughters, Karen Ann Cardin of Arlington, Texas, Patricia Sue Cardin and Deborah Kay Cardin, both of Sherwood; brother, Gerald New of Quitman; two sisters, Vernette Grizzelle and Annette Van Hoose, both of Little Rock.

Graveside services under the direction of Roller-Owens Funeral Home were March 26, at Rest Hills Memorial Park.

William H. Dawes Jr.

William Harvey Dawes Jr. of Sherwood died March 24, 2003, at the age of 76.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a Korean War veteran. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Mae; two sons, James Dawes of Clinton and Robert Dawes of Louisiana; two daughters, Alica Peters of Sherwood and Paula Uekman of Conway; his sister, Norma Ruth Dawes; his brother, Ed Dowdey; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at the Arkansas State Veterans cemetery in North Little Rock.

Peggy Jo Carpenter

Peggy Jo Carpenter, 65, of Crossett, died Sunday, March 23, 2003.

She was a member of the North Crossett Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Walter Carpenter; three children, George W. Carpenter of Ruston, La., Pamela J. Cravens of Bastrop, La., and Richard A. Carpenter of White Hall; a brother, Fred Wetzler of Pine Bluff; a sister, Mary Jane Fleming of Sherwood; and seven grandchildren.

A graveside service and interment were held Tuesday at the Portland cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105-1905.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home, Hamburg.

Elizabeth Jackson

Elizabeth Jackson, age 90, of Pine Bluff, formerly of Jacksonville, died March 16, 2003.

Survivors include four daughters, Leona Branum of Granbury, Texas, Patty Appleby of Dumas, Fonda Lamont and Bonnie Yeggy, both of Pine Bluff; one son, Alfred Jackson of Pine Bluff; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were March 19, in the chapel of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home.

Burial was in Flynn cemetery in Humnoke.

Lorene E. Fulbright

Lorene Elizabeth Fulbright, 67, of Sherwood died March 17, 2003.

She is survived by two daughters, Irene Rhodes of Sherwood and Marie Manton of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Robert Hendricks of Little Rock and David Hendricks of DeValls Bluff; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services were held Wednesday at Huson Funeral Home Chapel, Sherwood.

Roy Benjamin Heller

Roy Benjamin Heller, 71, of Sherwood died Monday, March 17, 2003.

He was a retired Air Force veteran and medical administrator for Veterans Hospital.
He is survived by three sons, Robert Heller of Texas, Ron Heller of Sherwood and Rick Heller of Hawaii; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from a previous marriage.

A graveside service was Thursday at Shady Grove cemetery in Lincoln County.
North Little Rock Funeral Home was in charge.

Phyllis Ann Smith

Phyllis Ann Smith of Little Rock, died March 18, 2003, at the age of 65.

She was a business educator for over 40 years. She was a member of the Business and Marketing Department at McClellan Magnet High School.

She won a Stephens Award for Outstanding High School Teachers in 1987. She was Arkansas Business Education Teacher of the Year, Arkansas Vocational Teacher of the Year, Southern Business Education Teacher of the Year, National Business Education Teacher of the Year, and National Economic Teacher of the Year.

She was also listed in the Who’s Who in American Teachers, and she was named to both the Wall Street Teacher Board and the National Economic Council in New York. She was added to the FBLA Wall of Fame in Washington, D.C., in 1998.
She was Arkansas FBLA Adviser of the Year in 1992, and won the State FBLA Coordinator’s Award in 1996.

She was also named to the Arkansas FBLA Foundation Board where she remained an active member.

She was the FBLA District VIII Coordinator for Arkansas, and she was the adviser for the McClellan FBLA Chapter.

She is survived by her husband, Harold “Hal” Smith; daughter, Stacy Smith Osborne; one granddaughter; two sisters, Barbara Cantrell of Jacksonville and Jean Harris of Little Rock; one brother, John Weaver of Sherwood.

A celebration of her life was held Thursday, March 20, at Bailey Street Church of Christ, Jacksonville with interment in Rest Hills Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements provided by Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills, North Little Rock.
