Richard V. Stauffer

Richard Vernon Stauffer, age 76, of Sherwood, died May 28, 2003.

He was a retired Regional Purchasing Agent for Union Pacific. He served as a Marine in the Military.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Thomasene Scott Stauffer; a daughter, Karen Wheeler of Russellville; two grandsons; a brother, Willard Stauffer of Ft. Smith; three sisters, Sarah Dickerson of Lonoke, Snooks Tibbs and Tootsie Dempsey both of Gurdon.

Funeral services were Saturday, at the First Baptist Church with burial in Decipher cemetery.

Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of Gurdon or to Decipher cemetery.

Ned Mazzanti

Ned Thomas Mazzanti, 87, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003.

He was a Communicant of Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church. He worked 35 years at Holloway’s Drug Store as an employee and partner. He served as an officer, First Grand Knight in Lake Village and state officer one year as officer in Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club. Served as director of Bank of Lake Village since 1964 and served as first vice president and vice chairman and secretary of Chicot Water Association.

He is survived by his wife, Neva Mayfield Mazzanti, Lake Village; son, Don MacFarlane, Sherwood; daughter, Patricia Foster, Texas; seven brothers, Al Mazzanti, Fiore Mazzanti, Joe B. Mazzanti, Henry Mazzanti, all of Lake Village, Gene Mazzanti, Little Rock, Frank Mazzanti, Crossett, and Paul Mazzanti of Memphis; two sisters, Gloria Morora and Catherine Talbot of Lake Village.

Rosary was Friday at Griffin-Steele Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass was May 31, at Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary’s cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Griffin-Steele Funeral Service, Lake Village.

William C. Dye

William C. Dye of Lonoke died Monday, May 26, 2003.

He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired from the United States Air Force as SMSgt after 20 years of service.

He was a member of the Concord Methodist Church in Furlow and the Jacinto Lodge in Jacksonville.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; four daughters ; two sons; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services were May 30, at the Concord Methodist Church followed by interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Jacksonville.

Memorials may be made to the Concord Methodist Church Building Fund, 150 Concord Church Road, Lonoke, Ark. 72086.

Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Tressie Phillips

Tressie “Beall” Phillips, 88, of Sherwood, died Friday, May 30, 2003.

She was a member of Cherrywood Baptist Church and retired from Westinghouse Inc.
She is survived by her son, Jimmy Phillips of Sherwood; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Monday at Arkansas Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Brenda Temple

Brenda Akins Temple, 59, of North Little Rock died June 2, 2003.

She taught school in the Pulaski County Special School District.

Survivors are her husband, Dale Edgar Temple; daughters, Rae Warren Millerd of Marion and Kelly Warren Chandler of Sherwood; sisters, Olivia Bokker of Forrest City and Susan Vest of Wynne; five grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral was June 5 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Little Rock, with graveside service at Cogbill cemetery in Wynne.

Roller-Owens Funeral Home was in charge.

Memorials may be made to Baptist Hospice, 11900 Col. Glenn Rd., Little Rock, 72210, or to the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University Ave., Little Rock, 72203.

Gathalou Arrington

Gathalou “Gus” Arrington, 64, of Sherwood, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Bill; two daughters, Kim Hearne and Kelli Pena; and four grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Hart officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main, North Little Rock.

Brenda Temple

Brenda Akins Temple, age 59, of North Little Rock, died Monday, June 2, 2003 after an 11-year battle with cancer. She was a teacher from 1967 to 1979 for the Forrest City School District. She taught at Sylvan Hills Elementary from 1979 to 1997 for the Pulaski County Special School district.

She is survived by her husband, Dale Edgar Temple; two daughters, Rae Warren Millerd of Marion and Kelly Warren Chandler of Sherwood; two sisters, Olivia Bokker of Forrest City and Susan Vest of Wynne; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren.

Services were held Thursday, June 5, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Little Rock. Graveside was held at Cogbill cemetery in Wynne.

Memorials may be made to Bap[tist Hospice, 11900 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72210, or The American Cancer Society, 901 N. University Ave., Little Rock, Ark. 72203.

Debbie Leigh McNutt

Debbie Leigh McNutt, 39, of North Little Rock died July 19, 2003.
She is survived by her father, J.W. McNutt of Tuckerman; her mother, Patsy Herring of North Little Rock; a brother, Tommy McNutt of East End; and a stepbrother, Ronnie Herring of Sherwood.

She worked at Wright, Lindsey and Jennings Law Firm for several years and worked for Coulson Oil Company.

Funeral services were July 22, at Huson Funeral Home, in Sherwood. A graveside service was held at the Gracelawn cemetery in Tuckerman.

Edward Eason

Edward Emmerson Eason, 92, of Arkadelphia died Friday, July 18, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Desarea Eason; three sons, Willie Eason, Sherwood, Charles Eason, Hot Springs Village, Michael Eason, Hot Springs; three daughters, Lillie Eason and Frances Nelson, Arkadelphia, Hazel Eason Jefferson, Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Charlie Eason, Arkadelphia; one sister, Roberta Alexander, Richmond, Calif.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were July 21, at Mount Morriah Missionary Baptist Church, Arkadelphia. Services entrusted to Hubble Funeral Home, North Little Rock.

Beryl I. Sherer

Beryl I. Sherer of Sherwood died Friday, July 18, 2003, at the age of 82.
She was a retired seamstress. She was a member of the Church of Christ and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by one daughter, Cheri Ann Dunlap, of Sherwood; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Chleo Mitchell of Pangburn; and one sister, Pauline Finley of Smyrna, Ga.

Funeral services were July 21, at Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home Chapel, North Little Rock, with interment at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Truth for Today World Mission School or Arkansas Hospice.

Eddie Don Higgins

Eddie Don Higgins, age 58, of Benton died Saturday.
He was a retired Farmers Insurance Agent, a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, a member of the First Baptist in Benton.

Survivors: wife, Mary Lee “Mimi” Higgins, Benton; daughters, Pennie Schleiff, Cabot, Jennie Tombrello, Bryant; stepmother, Jean Higgins, Mabelvale; stepbrother, Stanley Gillespie, Little Rock; stepsister, Linda Bird, Sherwood.
Services were Tuesday at the Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Forest Hills cemetery.

Clay A. Ellison Jr.
Clay A. Ellison Jr., 73, of Memphis, died Sept. 16, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.

He was born Dec. 16, 1931, in Portia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay A. and Fannie Stoner Ellison; two sisters, Jane Riles and Mary Holobaugh; and two brothers, John C. Ellison and Matthew Ellison.

Survivors include his wife, Anne McKnight Ellison; a son, William Arnold Ellison, of the home; two brothers, W.F. Ellison, Olivet, Ky., and Dan Ellison, Walnut Ridge; and three sisters, Opal Santi, Indialantic, Fla., Geneve Little, Memphis, and Johnnie Holder, Rockford, Ill.

Funeral was Saturday at 10 a.m. at Canale Funeral Chapel in Memphis. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park, with Bro. Bill Cook officiating.

Ann Wicker

Ann Wicker of Searcy, formerly of North Little Rock, died July 31, 2003, at the age of 79.

She was a member of West Race Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ernie Wicker; one son, Dennis Wicker of Sherwood; one daughter, Beverly Wilkinson of North Little Rock; six grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Green of Malden, Mo., Jean Ward of Punta Gorda, Fla.; and one brother, Carl Bridgforth of New Baden, Ill.
A celebration of her life was held Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Chapel, North Little Rock, with burial in Rest Hills Memorial Park.

Robert Wheeler Jr.

Robert Leonard Wheeler Jr., 70, of North Little Rock, died Aug. 2, 2003.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sherwood and a veteran of the United States Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; two sons, Rob of Cibolo, Texas, and Scot of Rio Rancho, N.M.; three sisters, Mary Aquino, Margaret Slavin and Martha Lay; and a granddaughter.

Funeral services were Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Sherwood, with interment in Gravel Ridge cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Music Ministry of First Baptist Church of Sherwood, 835-3154.

James Alfred Willard

James Alfred Willard, 72, of Sherwood died Aug. 1, 2003.
He was retired president of Datamatic, and was an Air Force veteran.
Survivors are his wife, Carlene Dodd Willard; mother, Kara Willard; son, James Alfred Willard Jr.; daughters, Cathy Norton, Karen Scott, Beth Bird and Susan Brown; and 12 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Aug. 11, at the First United Methodist Church of North Little Rock, with arrangements by Roller-Owens Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or Arkansas Hospice.
