Roseltha Ford
Roseltha Ford, 82, of Walnut Ridge, died June 12, 2006, at Mission Regional Hospital in Mission, Texas.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Ford, in 1999.
Graveside services were Saturday at 10 a.m. at Hope cemetery in Imboden with Bro. Wilbur Griggs officiating. Higginbotham Funeral Service had charge of arrangements.
Carmel T. Foster
Carmel Theresa Paralee Sauls Foster, 92, of Hoxie, died June 14, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Born in Sharp County, she lived all of her adult life in Lawrence County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hoxie Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Leslie Foster Jr.; and two brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph L. Foster Sr.; a daughter, Nova Sue Dobbs, Hoxie; two sisters, Edna Sauls Bookout and Freida Sauls Lewallen; two brothers, Denver O. Sauls and James E. Sauls; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Saturday at 2 p.m. in the House-Gregg Chapel with Donald Layne officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Larry Dobbs, David Dobbs, Eddie Foster, Roger Foster, Trey Foster and Ben Dobbs. Honorary pallbearers were Lee Dobbs, Tillman Foster, Clayton Mays, Foster B. McVey and Sam Foster.
Elmo Foster
Elmo Foster, 80, of Walnut Ridge, died June 15, 2006.
Survivors include his wife, Estelle "Bea" Foster; three sons, William "Buck" Foster, Corning, Jimmy Don Foster, Troy, Mo., and Harold Sischo, Walnut Ridge; two daughters, Estelle Ladd, Corning, and Marlene Fudge, New Athens, Ill.; a brother, Lester Ray Foster, Corning; a sister, Roberta Ann Ladd, Corning; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas with Gerald Fears officiating. Burial was in Sharum cemetery with military honors provided by Promberger-Traw Post No. 4556.
Lacey Nicole Foster
Lacey Nicole Foster, 20, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died suddenly on June 17, 2006, in Rockford, Ill. Her good heart and loving spirit will be missed by so many.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Willis Shatsar.
Survivors include her parents, Donna and Donald Foster, Rockford; her aunt, Carolyn Shatsar, Walnut Ridge; her cousin, Ben Shatsar, Walnut Ridge; and her grandmother, Marjorie Shatsar, Hoxie.
Private services will be held in Rockford.
Gary Grooms Sr.
Gary Grooms Sr., 47, of Jonesboro, brother of Ralph Grooms of Hoxie, died June 13, 2006. Funeral was Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Rick Ethridge officiating. James M. Haynes
James M. Haynes, 43, of Black Rock, died June 12, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
Survivors include his wife Donna Lea Goff; a son, James Haynes; three daughters, Kristian Haynes, Kassandra Haynes and Kaitlyn Haynes, all of the home; and a brother, David Haynes, Albuquerque, N.M.
The body was cremated. Higginbotham Funeral Service had charge of arrangements.
Howard L. Jarrett
Howard L. Jarrett, 86, of Walnut Ridge, died June 13, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Born March 7, 1920, in Walnut Ridge, he was the son of Louis E. and Gussie Watson Jarrett. He was a farmer and a former member of the quartets, the Jordanairs and the Sunlighters. He was a member of United Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jewell Ann Mayberry Jarrett, whom he married
Feb. 4, 1942; a son, Terry Jarrett, Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Sandra Gipson, Pocahontas; a brother, Dwain Jarrett, Walnut Ridge; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Friday at 2 p.m. at United Free Will Baptist Church with Bros. Charles Hendrix and Dale Blackwell officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Gardens at Pocahontas under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Tom Jarrett, Ronald Mosier, Gregg Jarrett, Jeff O'Donald, Karl Schoeneman and Don Winfrey. Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Jarrett, Bill Carson and Larry Cook.
Luther M. Peace
Luther M. Peace, 90, of Proctor, formerly of Memphis, died June 18, 2006, at Broadway Healthcare in West Memphis.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Peace and was a former resident of the Black Rock and Powhatan area. He was a retired farmer for Peace Farms in Proctor. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and had been a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nadene Peace; and a brother, Gervase Peace.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Richard Underhill, Proctor, and Mrs. Richard McBryde, Memphis; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Oak Forest cemetery in Black Rock. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of West Memphis had charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

John Alden Rush
John Alden Rush, 83, of Portland, Ore., died June 6, 2006.
Born April 10, 1923, in Hardy, he lived his early life in Walnut Ridge. He served as a Navy fighter pilot during World War II and survived being shot down in the Pacific Ocean. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering and worked for DuPont Chemicals as a chemical engineer. He lived in Portland for the past five and a half years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Oldham Rush, in 1998, whom he married
in 1947.
Survivors include two daughters, Lucinda R. Giorgetti and Anne A. Dean.
A private service with military honors will be held at a later date. His cremains will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean by the U.S. Navy.
George Anthony Studdie
George Anthony Studdie, 31, of Black Rock, died June 18, 2006.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Studdie.
Survivors include three daughters, Madi McCright, Lynn, and Courtney Green and Sandy Green, both of Black Rock; two sons, Jagger Studdie, Harrisburg, and Jeremy Green, Black Rock; his mother and stepfather, Bonnie (Watkins) and David Titus; a brother, Jerry Studdie, Memphis; a sister, Deanna Darden, Beebe; and his fiancˇ, Bennie Sue Green.
Funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Ballew's Chapel cemetery.
Billy Joe Walker
Billy Joe Walker, 69, of Ravenden, died June 13, 2006, at his home.
He had lived in Ravenden for 25 years. He was a carpenter and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Billy Mac Walker, Jefferson City, Mo.; three daughters, Bernadine Eubanks and Bronda Wilson, both of Washington, and Brenda Davis, Berryville; two sisters, Elean Woodard and Elsie Cohen, both of Missouri; a brother, Vernie Walker, Berryville; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and his caregiver, Lynn Walker.
Funeral was Friday at 2 p.m. in the House-Gregg Chapel with Max Davis and Gene Garner officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Bob Stallings, Larry Stallings, David "Omar" Bradley, John Belcher, Don Guilliams and Doyle Guilliams. Honorary pallbearers were Anthony Gann, Dwayne Camp and Cliff Johnson.
Peggy Webster
Peggy Webster, 76, of the Light community, died June 13, 2006, at her home.
Born March 21, 1930, in Jonesboro, she was the daughter of Alvin and Mabel McDonald.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Webster; and four brothers.
A rosary was said Friday at Higginbotham Chapel.
Funeral was Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paragould. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery at Walcott under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.
Loretta Mayo Beakley
Loretta Mayo Beakley, 86, of Jonesboro, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died July 11, 2006, at St. Elizabeth's Place in Jonesboro.
Born in Hoxie, she lived in Walnut Ridge most of her life and moved to Jonesboro seven years ago. She worked as a secretary for Ponder & Ponder Law Firm and was a former employee of The Times Dispatch. She was member of First United Methodist Church in Walnut Ridge, was a life member of the Women's Society of Christian Service and was an instructor in the Laubauch reading program.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Beakley; and her mother, Della Roxey Mayo.
Survivors include two daughters, Sarah Gore, Jonesboro, and Julia Beinhorn, Nevada City, Calif.; a grandson, Tony Gore; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at a later date. Arrangements will be announced by Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Gerald Davis Payne
Gerald Davis Payne, 81, formerly of Payneway, died Friday, June 2, at the V.A. Medical Center, Ft. Roots, North Little Rock. Payne was a farmer and a member of the Methodist Church. He graduated from Marked Tree High School in 1941. He was a WWII veteran in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 32 months in the South Pacific and was with the Marine Corps that stormed the beach in Saipan.
Payne is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Vela Kelso Payne of Sherwood; two sons, Mike Payne of Sherwood and Jerry Payne of Birmingham, Ala.; one brother, Neal Payne, Sr., of Paneway; and one sister, Ellnor Le Vise of Alpine, Tex.; three grandchildren, Dr. Michael Payne, Jarrod Payne and Dr. Jason Payne; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 5, at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel in Marked Tree with Patrick Tucker officiating. Interment was held in the Marked Tree cemetery with cousins as pallbearers.
Mary Elizabeth Akin
Mary Elizabeth Akin, 91, of North Little Rock, AR, passed away Mon., June 5, 2006. Mary was born April 25, 1915, to the late Eagle Walker and Alice Marie (Baker) Walker.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her husband James K. Akin and her son James W. Akin.
She is survived by her son, William (Billy) Akin, of Jacksonville, AR; grandsons, James H. (Kathy) Akin, and Chris Akin of Antioch, AR; nieces, Jimmie Lou (Harry) Hulett, of North Little Rock, AR, and Dianne Wilson of Sherwood, AR; and nephew Tom (Susan) Wilson of Tucson, AZ.
The family appreciates the care provided by the nursing staff at Woodland Hills in Jacksonville, and the Arkansas Hospice.
The family requests no visitation.
