Raymond Ray Johnson
Raymond Ray Johnson, age 42, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2004. He was born August 18, 1962 to Robert Johnson, Sr., and Eva mae Washington Johnson. He was a 1981 graduate of Stamps High School and he worked as a laborer at Tyson's Foods in Hope, AR for the past eleven years. He spent many years as a member of the Starks Hill Baptist Church in Mandeville, AR where he was a faithful member until his death.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Robert Johnson, Sr.,; his maternal grandfather, John Washington; his paternal grandparents, Harvey and Ethel Johnson; and one brother, Alga Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife, Wanda Johnson of Texarkana, AR; one son, Raymon Johnson of Texarkana; his mother, Eva Mae Johnson of Stamps, AR; three brothers, Robert Johnson, Jr. and Terry Johnson, both of Stamps and Otis Johnson of Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Lena mae (Leon) Rose of Stamps and Linda Lewis of Texarkana; his grandmother, Vester Washington of Stamps; several uncles, aunts, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 23, 2004 at Starks Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Mandeville, AR with Reverend William Haynes officiating.
Lorene Grimmett
Lorene Grimmett, age 96, of Stamps, Arkansas died Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at The Homestead Manor Nursing Home in Stamps. She was born January 29, 1908 in Lafayette County, Arkansas. Mrs. Grimmett was the daughter of the late E.E. & Cora Rhodes, a member of the Liberty Baptist Church for 80 years and was preceded in death by her husband, Smead Grimmett, Sr. and a son, Bill Grimmett.
She is survived by: one son & daughter-in-law, Smead Grimmett, Jr. & wife, Carolyn of Stamps; daughter-in-law Gay Grimmett of Buckner, AR; six grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 12, 2004 at The Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps with Bro. W.D. Smith officiating, assisted by Bro. Jimmy Clyde House and burial in the Oak Grove cemetery south of Stamps under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, AR.
Cecil Ervin Spivey, Sr.
Cecil Ervin Spivey, Sr., age 71, of Buckner, Arkansas died Saturday, September 18, 2004 at St. Michael's Hospital in Texarkana, Texas. He was born April 23, 1933 in Buckner. Mr. Spivey had retired from Alumax in Magnolia, AR.
He is survived by: his wife, Erma Spivey of Buckner; daughter, Carolyn Leslie of Humnoke, AR; son, Cecil Spivey, Jr. of Buckner; brother, Huey Spivey of Buckner; sister, Ina Ruth Fox of Virginia; grandchildren, Charles Leslie, Jr., Charity Noblitt, Benjamin Spivey and Garrett Spivey; five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 20, 2004 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps officiated by Rev. Charles Warren with burial in the Buckner cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
Murry Cox
Murry Cox, age 88, of Lewisville, Arkansas died Saturday, September 18, 2004 at the V.A. Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. Mr. Cox was born in Lafayette County on December 20, 1915. He was a farmer and drove a school bus for the Lewisville Public Schools for 30 years. Mr. Cox was a member of the Lewisville Church of Christ and a World War II Veteran.
Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Helen Cox of Lewisville; two sons, Jerry & Mary Cox of Buckner, AR and Gary Cox of Lewisville; one brother, Lon Cox, Jr. of Dallas, TX; four sisters, Francis Shipp, Doretta Foresight and Cora Ponish, all of Texarkana, TX, and Elvira Fain of Stamps, AR; two granddaughters, Camille & Jeff Barton of Buckner and Stacy & Terry Vansickle of Village, AR; four great grandchildren, Brittany & Jonathon Barton of Buckner and Ashley & Cole Scott of Village.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 20, 2004 at the Wilson cemetery in Lewisville with Mickey May officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.
Audrey L. Barnett
Audrey L. Barnett, age 88, of Bradley, AR died Saturday, September 18, 2004 in Texarkana, Texas. She was born February 4, 1916 in Ida, LA.
Survivors include daughter, Wanda Pearl Steed of Texarkana; son, Jerry Glen Barnett & daughter-in-law of Austin, TX; three sisters, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, numerous other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at the Red River Baptist Church in Bradley officiated by Bro. Gerald Cheney with burial in the Walnut Hill cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps, AR.
Richard Nix
Richard Nix, age 58, of Lewisville, Arkansas died Friday, September 17, 2004 in St. Michaels Hospital in Texarkana, Texas. He was born November 5, 1945 in Texarkana, Texas. Mr. Nix was a member of The Garland United Methodist Church, a retired public school teacher and retired from the Lewisville Public Schools after thirty years of dedicated service. He also taught at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope, Arkansas for five additional years.
He is survived by: his wife, Beverly Nix of Lewisville; mother, Sarah Pauline Nix of Lewisville; brother & sister-in-law, James & Lucille Nix of Lonoke, AR; four sisters & two brothers-in-law, Inez & Lloyd Bariola of Tontitown, AR, Helen Brown of Hope, AR, Joyce Jordan of Hope, and Dorothy & Shorty Cutchall of Lewisville; a host of nieces and nephews.

Nodie Conelia (Jackie) Johnston, age 82, of Stamps, Arkansas died Friday, September 17, 2004 in Ashdown, Arkansas. She was born April 9, 1922 in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. Mrs. Johnston had retired from the Lafayette County Hospital in Lewisville, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Johnston.
Survivors include: daughter & son-in-law, Debra & Jimmy Downs of Stamps, AR; step-daughter, Peggy Smith of Rockvale, TN; brothers, Calvin May of Spartanburg, SC, J.T. Jonathan Ky Koehn, age 25, of Bradley, Arkansas died Monday, September 13, 2004 at his residence. He was born July 10, 1979 in Greenville, Mississippi. Mr. Koehn was a cattle farmer and a member of The Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church.
He is survived by: his parents, Charles & Elizabeth Koehn of Bradley; brother & sister-in-law, Gregg & Kishea Koehn of Lake Providence, LA; sister & brother-in-law, Melissa & Tyson Deiset of Bradley; maternal grandmother, Bernice Nightengale of Ingalls, KS; one nephew and two nieces.

Mary Eliza Darner
Mary Eliza Darner, age 95, of Orlando, Florida formerly of Bradley, Arkansas died Monday, September 13, 2004 in Orlando. She was born June 11, 1909 in Bradley and was a member of the Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Charles L. Darner; brother, John Glen McDonald; sister, Margaret Thomas; and a nephew, Don Thomas.
She is survived by: four nephews, Charles Glen of Las Cruces, NM, Tommy Thomas of Beaumont, TX, Donald Darner and Harry Darner; three nieces, Patricia Cardon of Austin, TX, Margaret Gaither of Austin, and Barbara Donaldson of San Diego, CA; a sister-in-law, Ann Darner of Bradley, AR.

Howard Leon Sorrels
Howard Leon Sorrels, age 81, of Stamps, Arkansas died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Health South Rehab Hospital in Texarkana, Texas. He was born October 13, 1922 in Mississippi. Mr. Sorrels was retired from the United States Air Force and a member of The First Baptist Church in Lewisville and was preceded in death by his wife, Iva Mae Sorrels.
He is survived by: one son, Jackie Sorrels of Omaha, NE; two sisters, Jean Gardner of Lewisville, AR and Patsy Williams of Yazoo City, MS; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 5, 2004 at The First Baptist Church of Lewisville with Bro. Clint Miller officiating and burial in Wilson cemetery.
John Walter "Jack" Meek, Jr.
A service celebrating the life of John Walter "Jack" Meek, Jr. (Pops), of Bradley, Arkansas, was held at The Bradley Methodist Church at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 1, 2004 under the direction of Smith Funeral Home with the Reverend Spencer Plumly officiating. Burial followed at Walnut Hill cemetery. Jack passed awy June 28, 2004 at Grace Home in Shreveport, Louisiana following a lengthy illness.
Jack was born on January 26, 1908 in Fordyce, Arkansas. He attended Bradley Schools, graduating from Texas High in Texarkana. He attended Hendrix College. He worked for The Arkansas Highway Department around Hope before joining his parents in the Bank of Bradley. In Bradley, his home, his family and he owned and operated the Bank of Bradley until his retirement in 1975. Jack was always willing to help people and to become personally involved with customers - always going the extra mile. He will be remembered for his kindness, gentleness, generosity, optimistic spirit and belief in people. Few lives in Lafayette County were untouched.
The town of Bradley was one of Jack's great loves and he never left except "temporarily" when he moved to Live Oak Retirement Center in Shreveport during his last year. He was a charter member of The Bradley Rotary Club in which he served in many offices including President. He served on the School Board and actively supported the school in numerous ways, receiving the FFA Farmer of The Year Award from this group. He was instrumental in bringing natural gas to Bradley in the 30's. He was the recipient of The Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen Award.
Jack's relationship with the Bradley Methodist Church was lifelong. His passion and love for the church was evident through his involvement with the church, including Sunday School Superintendent, Church Secretary and Treasurer, and Chairman of The Boards of Stewards and Trustees. His last role, following his father's footsteps, was that of "Candy Man" trading candy to children for hugs. Jack's work was punctuated by his love of sports. He was an avid sportsman and in his younger years he could be found hunting and fishing in lakes and woods around Bradley. In later years, he kept up with all his favorite sports teams via television.
No description of Jack would be complete without some mention of his sense of humor. Like his father before him, he loved a good joke and story. He was quick to see the lighter side of any situation and is surely saying to us all no, "lighten up folks".
Preceding him in death were his parents, J. Walter and Margaret Rimes Meek, his beloved wife, Mary Lillian McRae Meek, his sister, Frances Meek Baucum, and his nephew, Ralph Baucum, Jr., who died six months short of their 60th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by: his daughter, Carolyn Meek Colvin and her husband John Lewis Colvin; grandchildren Jay Colvin & his wife Susan, Thomas Colvin & his wife Suzan Jean, and Mary Frances Koerner & her husband Paul; six great grandchildren, Katie and Lauren Colvin, John Tomas and Kelli Colvin and Cara and Andy Koerner; nephews Dr. Charles Baucum and Kenneth McRae; and a host of great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Serving as Pallbearers were Gerald Crabtree, Mickey Camp, Bill Murphy, Thomas McDonald, Ralph Hamner, John Bishop, John Thomas Colvin, Andy Koerner, Mark Goodson and Jay Peake.
Honorary Pallbearers were Dr. Seborn Woods, Dwight Tietjen, Dal Colvin, Dr. Charles Baucum, Kenneth McRae, Benny Hays, Travis Gore and Lane Pierce.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Bradley Methodist Church in Bradley, Arkansas.

Glynn Franklin Newton, age 72, of Lewisville, Arkansas died Saturday, June 26, 2004 at St. Michaels Hospital in Texarkana, Texas. He was born March 23, 1932 in Bradley, Arkansas. Mr. Newton was a machinist and a Veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by: his wife, Marie Newton of Centerville, TX; his mother, Jenna Lee Stidham of Bradley, AR; four sons, Rodney Newton and Richard Newton, both of Hope, AR, Robert Newton of Lewisville and Brandon Newton of Centerville, TX; one daughter, Nancy Fish of Sarepta, LA; two brothers, Joe Newton of Pinson, TN and Elbert Newton of McNary, TN; four sisters, Jessie Lee Caskey of Taylor, AR, Edith Jones of Bradley, Mary Dicus of Big Sandy, TN and Pat Garrott of Ardmore, AL; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 2 pm on Sunday, June 27, 2004 at the Walnut Hill cemetery in Bradley with Rev. Wayne Langston officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, AR.
