Robert Ray Miller

Robert Ray Miller of Sherwood, died May 1, 2004 at the age of 80.
He was commissioned as a Salvation Army Officer in 1947 and served as a faithful minister until his retirement in 1989 with the rank of Major.
Survivors include his son, Mike Miller of El Dorado; one granddaughter; his brother, Earnest Miller of Birmingham, Ala.
A celebration of his life was held May 5, at the Salvation Army Church of North Little Rock, with interment at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made in his honor to the Salvation Army Church of North Little Rock.

William B. Young Sr.

William B. Young Sr., 85, of Sherwood, formerly of Atkins, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004.
He was of the Methodist faith, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he made the Battle of the Bulge and the Normandy Invasion. He retired from Gulf Oil after 33 years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Ann Young; children - Donnie W. Young of Springfield, Mo., William B. Young, Jr., of Sherwood, Barbara Ann Grice of Cape Coral, Fla., and Robert Allen Young of Bigelow; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, 212 Natural Resources Drive, Little Rock, Ark. 72205.
A memorial service was held Saturday at Sherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 245 Indian Bay Drive, Sherwood. Arrangements by Cremation Association of Arkansas

Samuel Cummings Sr.

Samuel Dwight Cummings Sr., 87, of Sherwood, died on April 27, 2004.
He served in World War II as an Army supply officer for hospital ships and was stationed from the east coast to the west coast, including desert training with Gen. George Patton. He worked for Westinghouse for several years before building and operating Cummings Gulf station in Sylvan Hills until 1959. He was coowner with his brother of Sylvan Hills Home & Auto in Sherwood from 1959 until 1981. He was an active member of Sylvan Hills First Baptist Church. He was an active member and President of Sylvan Hills Optimist Club and was very involved in the baseball programs in every way, including sponsoring teams for several decades.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Juanita Mae Passmore Cummings; three sons - Sam D. Cummings, Jr., of North Little Rock, Michael Cummings of Prairie Grove and Wayne Cummings of Russellville; two daughters - Carole Mashburn of Ashdown and Joyce Hall of Knoxville, Tenn. several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, George Lewis Cummings; and two sisters, Mae Baucum of Jackson, Miss., and Clara Sprinkle of Roswell, N.M.
Funeral service was. Friday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Arkansas State Veterans cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Sylvan Hills First Baptist Church, 9008 Sylvan Hills Highway, Sherwood, Ark. 72120 or Baptist Health Hospice, 11900 Colonel Glenn Road, Suite 2300, Little Rock, Ark. 72210.

Kenneth S. Jordan

Kenneth S. Jordan of Sherwood died April 28, 2004, at the age of 78.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Bea Jordan; his sister, Margaret Bromund of Indianapolis, Ind.
Donations may be made in his honor to the American Heart Association, 909 W. 12th St., Little Rock, Ark. 72201.
Services provided by Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock,

Wanda Elliot Holt

Wanda Elliott Holt of Sherwood died May 1, 2004.
She is survived by her son, Danny Holt of Greenbrier; daughter, Melissa Mayernick of North Little Rock; four grandchildren.
Funeral services were May 4, in the chapel of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park.

Ellen Twitty Korfanty

Ellen Matthews Twitty Korfanty, 69, of Sherwood died April 14, 2004.
She is survived by two sisters, Carolyn Jacks of Sherwood and Rebecca Ann Price of Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, Larry Wayne Matthews of Yuma, Ariz., and Richard Leon Matthews of North Little Rock; two sons, Michael Twitty of Nashville, Tenn., and Christopher Korfanty of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Felicia Janine Patterson of Claremore, Okla.; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Indianhead Lake Baptist Church, 8601 Indianhead Dr., Sherwood, 72120.
Arrangements by Huson Funeral Home, Sherwood.

Gloria Marion Polk

Gloria Marion Polk, 82, of North Little Rock died.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Carol Wade, of North Little Rock, Sherry Johnson, of Sherwood and Lisa Simpson, of Edmond, Okla.; son, Skipper Polk, of North Little Rock; sister, Norma Jean Tompkins of North Little Rock; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 5600 W. 12th St., Little Rock, Arkansas, 72204.
Graveside services were Monday at Little Rock National cemetery with North Little Rock Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

James Buck Collins

James “Buck” Collins, 69, of Wrightsville, died April 30, 2004.
He was a retired roofer and welder.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Collins, one son, James Lyle Collins of Wrightsville; two stepsons, Jimmy Gill of Wrightsville and Tony Mathews of Fayetteville; five daughters, Angela Wheetley of Cabot, Tammy McGhee of Sherwood, Alesia Wilhite of Benton, Bridgette Tucker of Benton and Christie McCool of Little Rock; one stepdaughter, Tena Hancock of Wrightsville; 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, four brothers, Jimmy Collins of Mayflower, Ernie Collins of Fort Smith, Ervin Collins of Conway and Robert Collins of Bryant; two sisters, Gene Holland of Little Rock and Shirley Sisco of Fort Smith; three stepbrothers and one stepsister and stepmother, Mae Collins.
Funeral services were Tuesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Ivy Chapel cemetery, Little Rock.

Ruby Edwards

Ruby Edwards, 87, of Sherwood died Wednesday, May 5, 2004.
She was a member of Victory Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by four sisters, Perline Cullum, of Little Rock, Florene Stacks, of Sherwood, Evelyn Pope, of Houston, and Glenna Perry, of Bossier City, La.; three brothers, C.F. Edwards of Little Rock, Calvin Edwards of Benton and Benny Edwards of Bryant.
Funeral services were Saturday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Friendship cemetery in Solgohachia. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Linda Lerlene Cooley

Linda Lerlene Fite Cooley, age 46, of Bryant died May 8, 2004.
She had been a cosmetologist for Dillard’s and was a member of the Plainview Assembly of God Church.
Survivors: son, Erik Michael Whittaker, Bryant; parents, Bernie Fite, Bryant; Velma Oliver, Bauxite; stepmother, Carol Fite, Bryant; sister, Brenda Fite, Sherwood.
Services were held Tuesday at the Plainview Assembly of God Church with burial at Mt. Olive cemetery by Ashby Funeral Home.

Owen L. Hawk Sr.

Owen L. Hawk Sr., of Sherwood died May 6, 2004, at the age of 98.
He was a retired electrical engineer.
Cremation services provided by Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock.

Herman H. Hankins

Herman H. Hankins, age 91, of North Little Rock, former state director of the Farmers Home Administration, United States Department of Agriculture, died May 10, 2004.
He was a veteran of World War II and served as State Director from April 20, 1961 until his retirement on Feb. 28, 1969 concluding 34 years of service to the U.S.D.A. During his career, Hankins received numerous awards including a Distinguished Service Award in 1966.
Survivors are two sisters, Reba Stephens, of Fordyce and Hila Hankins, of Pine Bluff; one brother, Elton Hankins, of Eureka Springs; four children, Joada Hankins Huff of Denver, Colo., Charles Harrison Hankins of Sherwood, Gayle Hankins Anderson of North Little Rock and Stuart W. Hankins of North Little Rock; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were May 13, with interment at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to the Frances Greer and Herman Hankins Scholarship Fund, University of Arkansas, 405 Administration Building, Fayetteville, AR 72701.
