Horace E. Blake, Jr.
Horace Edward Balke, Jr., “Buster,” 38, of Little Rock, died April 7, 2005.
He is survived by his father, Horace Blake Sr. of Little Rock; brother, Keith Blake of Sherwood; sisters, Lisa Blake of Cordova, TN, Ingrid Blake of Sherwood; and grandmother, Vida Thompson of Cotton Plant. Graveside services were April 14, at Elmlawn cemetery, Little Rock.

Alfie C. Langston
Alfie Christabell Sherwood Langston, 84, of Calico Rock, died April 8, 2005.
Christabell worked at a number of jobs in Calico Rock: at the White River Current, the Hillbilly Cafe, Abe’s Plumbing, and the White River Convalescent Home. She was a member of the Calico Rock United Methodist Church. Her survivors include sons, William Langston of Batesville, Nathan Langston of Searcy, Jimmy Langston of Sherwood, and Charles Langston of Little Rock; daughter, Christa Lee Langston of Calico Rock; sisters, Mildred Carpenter of Kan., and Mabel Callaway of Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held April 10 at the Calico Rock United Methodist Church. Burial was at Spring Creek cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wild Cherry or Calico Rock United Methodist Church or to the Spring Creek cemetery Fund.

Arkie G. Sheppard
Arkie Garrett Sheppard, 86, of North Little Rock, died on April 9, 2005.
She is survived by daughters: Betty Keathley Goodson of Sherwood, and Carolyn Keathley Hobbs of Estill Springs, TN; 6 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held April 12, at the Roller McNutt Funeral Home Chapel in Conway with burial in Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Plumerville.

Richard Timmerman
Richard Henry Timmerman, 75, of Sherwood, died April 10, 2005.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sherwood. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Timmerman; son, William Timmerman; two granddaughters; one great-grandson; and brother Charlie Pumphrey. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. April 13 at the First Baptist Church of Sherwood. Interment was at the Philadelphia cemetery in Prattsville. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Sherwood Building Fund.

Bob Copeland
Bobby Gene “Bob” Copeland, 60, of Oxford, died April 9, 2005.
He was a member of Horseshoe Bend Volunteer Emergency Medical Services. He is survived by his wife, Jane Copeland of Oxford; son, Darryl L. Copeland of North Little Rock; stepsons, Ronald Strader of Oxford and Tommy Smith of Pine Bluff; brother, Willie Copeland of Sherwood; sister, Velma Thomas of Cleveland, AR; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held April 12 at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Harmony cemetery.

Carolyn L. Dodson
Carolyn Louise Stacks Dodson, 53, of Sherwood died April 11, 2005.
She was a member of Sylvan Hills Community Church in Sherwood. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Dodson, and sister, Deanna “Dee” Stacks both of Little Rock. Memorial donations may be made to he American Cancer Society in her honor. Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. on Fri., April 15, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills in North Little Rock. A memorial service will be held Sat., April 16, 2 p.m., at the Sylvan Hills Community Church in Sherwood.

Carroll L. Klutts
Carroll L. Klutts, 73, of Sherwood, died April 12, 2005.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and retired from Roadway Trucking. He is survived by his companion, Lilia McColpin of Sherwood; her daughter, Edith Raggio of Cabot; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Little Rock. Funeral services will be held Fri., April 15, at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Calvary cemetery. A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Thurs., April 14, at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Sartain

Elizabeth Minnie Osterloh Sartain, age 95, died Aug. 22, 2005 at the home of her son. She was a long-time member of First Christian Church in Little Rock and retired from National Old Line Insurance Co. after 25 years of service. She played high school and independent basketball until 1945. She played with Hazel Walker for the Louis and Norwood Flyers. Their team brought the first National AAU Championship to Arkansas in 1937, and also won the Championship in 1940 and 1941. She played with the Hazel Walker Redheads softball team. She bowled for 35 years and was treasurer of the Arkansas Women’s Bowling Association for 25 years. She was known by many as “Coach Granny”.
She is survived by her son, Edwin Carl Sartain; grandson; three granddaughters; a step-daughter, Wilma Ruth Sartain Post, five granchildren, and seven great-grandchildren of Houston, TX; a step-son, Loran Sartain, Jr., two children and three grandchildren of Dallas, TX; two brothers, Carl Osterloh of Malvern and Fritz Osterloh of McNeil, MS; three nephews, Henry Joe Osterloh of Little Rock, Steve Osterloh of Springdale, and Ricky Osterloh of Manchester, MO; and one niece, Anne Osterloh Tippett of Fort Worth. Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005 at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock, AR (501) 661-9111. Reverend Steve Wallace and the Rev. Dr. Steve Irby will officiate. Burial will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 24 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 5600 West 12th Street, Little Rock, AR 72204.

Earl Franklin Selph

Earl Franklin Selph, 74, of Tulsa, OK, formerly of Little Rock, Aug. 13, 2005.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and an employee of Braniff Airways for over 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Irene Selph of Tulsa; daughters, Deborah White of Sherwood, Donna Cook of Oklahoma City, OK, and Denise Rhodes of Little Rock; four grandchildren; step-daughter, Carol Dixon of Kansas City; and step-son, Brian Cox of Tulsa. Graveside service was Aug. 22 at Fort Gibson National cemetery in Oklahoma. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Francis Hospital Dialysis Unit (6161 South Yale Avenue, Tulsa, Okla. 74136) or the National Kidney Foundation.

Mary Jo Freeman

Mary Jo Strickland Freeman, 79, of North Little Rock, died Aug. 17, 2005.
She was a charter member of North Little Rock Women’s Golf Association and retired from the North Little Rock Times as circulation manager in 1991.
Survivors are her husband, Charles Van Freeman, Sr., of the home; son, Charles Van Freeman, Jr.; sisters, Pat Nichols of Dallas, TX, and Francis William of Sherwood; and two grandchildren. The body will be cremated and visitation and viewing will be at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 JFK Blvd., North Little Rock from 3-5 p.m., Sat., Aug. 20.

Vera V. Carson

Vera V. Carson, 86, of North Little Rock, Aug. 19, 2005. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Aubrey Carson of North Little Rock; daughters, Betty George of Sherwood and Sharon Ledrick of North Little Rock; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Graveside service was Aug. 23 at Rest Hills Memorial Park in North Little Rock.

Barbara McArthur

Barbara Ann Orr McArthur, 63, of Sherwood, died Aug. 19, 2005. She is survived her sons, Tim Simpson, of Cabot, and Travis Simpson, of Columbia, NC; stepson James McArthur of North Little Rock; stepdaughter, Deborah Henderson, of Birmingham, AL; sister, Opal Daffron of Piggott; brothers, Kenneth Orr of Gulf Port, MS, Jerry Orr of Bentonville; and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Sylvan Hills Community Church, 8019 Hwy 107, Sherwood, Ark. 72120. Funeral services were held Aug. 22 at Sylvan Hills Community Church. Entombment followed at Rest Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements were by Griffin Leggett Rest Hills

Beulah Marie Harris

Beulah Marie Harris, 72, of Sherwood, died Aug. 18, 2005. She retired as a telephone operator after 32 years with Southwestern Bell. She is survived by her daughter, Dana Huey of Overland Park, KS; brother, Arthur H. Harris of Atlanta, GA; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Aug. 22 at Huson Funeral Home Chapel, 7700 Hwy. 107, Sherwood, with interment in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Michael Robertson

Michael Charles Robertson, 38, of North Little Rock, died Aug. 17, 2005.
He was a graduate of North Little Rock Ole Main High, graduated from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 1998, served in the Army National Guard for eight years, worked at United Parcel Service for 11 years and at present he was working as an account manager in Houston, TX. He is survived by his daughter, Myka Robertson of Millington, IN; mother, Arlean Mc-Craw Ford of Sherwood; brother, Dr. Nathaniel R. Robertson,Jr.; sister and, Dr. Michelle Bullard, both of Houston, TX; step-brothers, Dr. Clark Morton of Virginia, Billy Ford of Michigan, Jessie E. Ford Jr. of Michigan, Robert Hearne of Delaware, and Roy Sipho of North Pole, AK. Funeral services will be held Sat., Aug. 27, at 2 p.m. at Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2400 S. Maple Street, Little Rock, with Pastor Terrell McCoy Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Haven of Rest cemetery in Little Rock. Family visitation will be held Aug. 26 from 6-7 p.m. at Ruffin & Jarrett Chapel, 1220 Chester Street in Little Rock (501) 372-1305.

Juanita Bright

Juanita Bright, of Bryant, died Aug. 19, 2005. She is survived by her son, Paul Edward Bright of Sherwood; daughter, Cora McLaughlin of Bryant; four grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Foster, Georgetta Ramsay, Joan Rodgers, and Jean Simpson; and three brothers, Robert Burrow, Donald Burrow, and Leonard Burrow. Funeral services were held Aug. 22 at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Chapel in Little Rock. Burial followed at Forest Hills Memorial Park.

Marie B. Hayden

Marie B. Hayden, 81, of Hamburg, died Aug. 19, 2005. She was a native and life long resident of Hamburg. She was a homemaker and a member of the Gardner Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Mack Hayden of Hamburg; son, Rev. John Sammons of Sherwood; daughter, Diane Leonard of Crossett; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Aug. 22 in the chapel of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home in Hamburg.
Burial was in the Pinewood cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Gardner Baptist Church, PO Box 506, Hamburg, Ark. 71646.

Nina L. Wilkerson

Nina Lucille Wilkerson, 86, of Pine Bluff, died Aug. 19, 2005. She was a member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church and was employed for over 20 years as a timekeeper with Rebsamen Motors, now Franklin Electric before her retirement.
She is survived by her daughters; Rita Ann James of Pine Bluff and Billie Ruth Hill of Martinsburg, WV; sisters: Ruth Castleberry of Lonsdale, Jean Denton of Little Rock and Carolyn Duley of Rockville, MD; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Aug. 22 at the Watson Chapel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff. Interment followed in the Rest Hills cemetery in Sherwood. Memorial contributions may be to The Building Fund at Watson Chapel Baptist Church, 5514 Pinnacle Lane, Pine Bluff, Ark. 71603.
Arrangements were by Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home.

James C. Pigg

James “Jim” C. Pigg, 79, of North Little Rock, died Aug. 21, 2005. He was a WWII Navy veteran. He is survived by his son, James R. Pigg of North Little Rock; daughters, Susan Tomlinson of North Little Rock, Mary Connot of Blossom, TX, and Peggy Foley of Sherwood; five grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. A graveside service was conducted at the Old Baptist cemetery in Russellville Aug. 24. Memorial donations may be made to the National Diabetes Association or to the Little Rock Veterans Hospital.

Christy R. Hooks

Christy Russell Hooks, 35, of North Little Rock, died Aug. 22, 2005.
She was a graduate of Sylvan Hills High School and Baptist School of Nursing. She worked at Baptist Hospital in North Little Rock and St. Vincent Rehabilitation Hospital in Sherwood. She was a member of Levy Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband, Nathan Hooks, of North Little Rock; mother, Wilma Jean Russell; brother, Jeffrey Russell, both of Sherwood; sister, Susan James; and grandmother (Me-Maw), Rita Hooks of Conway.
Memorials may be made to Levy Church of Christ Mission Fund, 5124 Camp Robinson Rd, North Little Rock, AR 72118. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, at Levy Church of Christ. Burial will be in Edgewood Memorial Park. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Ernest L. Whitelaw

Ernest Lyndon “Sonny” Whitelaw, 78, of Little Rock, died Dec. 29, 2005.
He retired from Entergy, Inc., in 1997 where he served as manager for Community Development. He served on many boards, the American Indian Center of Arkansas, the Regional AIDS Interface Network, LeadAR Arkansas; the Industrial Developers of Arkansas; the Southern Industrial Development Council; and the Community Development Council. He was co-founder of the Community Development Institute at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, where he also served on the faculty. He did volunteer work with the Holy Souls RAIN Careteam at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Sue Benedetto Whitelaw; children, Martha Lyndon “Marty” Whitelaw Hendricks of Little Rock, Aldah Jean “Jeanie” Whitelaw of Clifton, NJ, Sam Whitelaw of Magnolia, Drew May of Conway, Dr. Steven Whitelaw of Fayetteville, Spencer May of Little Rock, and Erin Whitelaw McConnell of Sherwood; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial vigil was held Dec. 30 at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church. A memorial mass was held Dec. 31 at the church.

Interment followed in the Holy Souls Garden Columbarium.

Memorial donations be made to Our Lady of the Holy Souls Bell Tower Fund, The Pulaski County Humane Society or Arkansas Children’s Hospital Infant and Toddlers Unit.
