Drusilla Harper
Drusilla Lucille Harper age 91 of North Little Rock died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002.

Survivors are two sons, George A. Harper, Jr., Clinton E. Harper; one daughter, Carolyn Weisner; sister Thelma Treadway; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Thursday, Jan. 7, Edgewood Memorial Park with Bro. Tony Bradford officiating. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice at Ft. Roots, 2200 Ft. Roots Drive, Building 66, Room 65, No. Little Rock, Ar. 72114.

Jimmy Adams

On Sunday, February 2, 2003, Jimmy D. Adams of Cabot, Arkansas, while surrounded by his family entered into his new life in heaven. He was born March 29, 1934, at Antioch, Arkansas, to Raymond and Lydia Adams. He lived in El Paso, Arkansas and attended school in Searcy. Jimmy was a businessman, having Adams Pest Control of North Little Rock and Adams Pest Control in White County. He was a member of North Little Rock Lions Club; a former member of the North Little Rock Rotary Club; Arkansas Pest Control and National Pest Control Associations. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Jimmy lived his life as a Christian man. The joy of his life was his family. He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Alice Thornton Adams of Cabot; one son, Tim Adams of Cabot; one daughter and her husband, Luann and Geoff Wiggins of Atlanta; two brothers, Elmo and his wife, Sue, of West Memphis and Glynn and his wife, Sylvia, of Bryant; his grandchildren, Esther Smith and her husband, Ben and Rachel Wiggins, all of Atlanta and Timothy and Jamie Adams of Cabot; one great-grandchild, Mary Alice Smith of Atlanta. Memorials may be made to Hebron United Methodist Church, Route 2, Box 194, Carlisle, AR 72024. Visitation will begin 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, with family receiving guests from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2003, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Cabot, with burial in Rest Hills Memorial Park at Sherwood.

Robert E. Hild

Robert E. Hild, age 62, of North Little Rock, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003. He was a master plumber and began performing music at 11 years old and was a local musician for years. He is survived by his mother, Hazel Hild; son, Robert S. Hild; two daughters, Jolynn Skelton, Sheila Abbott; two brothers, Richard Hild, Dan Hild; two sisters, Ann Hardcastle, Cindy Hild; and two grandchildren. Graveside service was held Feb. 7, at Edgewood Memorial Park cemetery. A memorial service and benefit were held Feb. 9, at Sherwood Forest. Memorials may be made to your local animal shelter.

James D. McElwee

James Dalton McElwee, 89, of Sherwood, died Feb. 6, 2003. He was a member of Parkers Chapel Baptist Church in El Dorado. He is survived by one daughter, Mildred Moore of Sherwood; son, James McElwee of Lake Charles, La.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Funeral was Saturday, Feb. 8, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Marie Temple

Marie Temple, 69, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003. She retired from GTE.

She belonged to the Eastern Star, was a member of the Little Rock Police Department CVIPS, Citizen Volunteers in Police Service and CPA, Citizens Police Academy. She is survived by her father, James Moran of Illinois; sister, Wanda Pitra of Illinois; sons, Michael E. Edwards of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Kenneth B. Temple of Sherwood; daughter, Earline McWhirter of Jacksonville; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were Feb. 11, at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home Chapel, followed by entombment in Chapel Hill Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Baptist Hospice, 11900 Colonel Glenn Road, Suite 2300, Little Rock, Ark., 72210-2827. Arrangements by Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home.

Howard Gates

Howard Warren Gates, age 88, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003. He was retired with 45 years of service from Georgia Pacific Paper Mill. He was a founding member of the First Church of God in Crossett. Survivors include one son, Charles Gates of Conway; two daughters, Dorothy Halter of Conway, Jerry Lawler of San Jose, Calif.; two step-children, Diane Garvin of Sherwood, Robert Reed of Searcy; two brothers, Herbert Gates of Mountain Home, Earl Gates of Crossett; four sisters, Lois Taunton, Jean Townsend, Betty Burchfield all of Crossett, and Irene Baden of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren ; 16 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services were Thursday, Feb. 6, at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. The family requests memorials be made to the First Church of God, 1501 Main Street, Crossett, Ark. 71635.

Orland Thompson

Orland William Thompson, age 84, of Sherwood died Feb. 3, 2003.
He was a member of Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. He was a member of Garthwaite Sunday School Class and the McCain Mall in-step-walking club. He had served in the U.S. Army Air Force from September 1940 to September 1945 with overseas duty for three years from 1942 until 1945, in which he fought in five major battles.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lavaun Thompson; one son, Richard Thompson of Sherwood; two daughters, Sue Weege of Van Buren and Virginia James of Tyler, Texas; seven grandchildren ; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Rex Thompson of Texas; one sister, Katherine Marshall of Bryant.

A celebration of his life was held Thursday, Feb. 6, at Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church with interment at Arkansas State Veterans cemetery on West Maryland Avenue, Sherwood.

Memorials may be made in his honor to the Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church.

Brenda Blackburn

Brenda Kay Blackburn, 49, of Sherwood, died Feb. 9, 2003.
She graduated from the University of Arkansas with an associate’s degree in nursing specializing in psychiatric care.

Survivors include two daughters, Jolie Parker of Maumelle, and Deidre Bishop of Judsonia; one brother, Benny Hargrove of Heber Springs; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the Griffin Leggett Rest Hills chapel, North Little Rock, Ark.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University, Little Rock, Ark. 72203.

Elizabeth J. Garry

Elizabeth “Cookie” Jackson Garry, 44, of Sherwood, died Feb. 9, 2003.
She worked at the Molex Corporation for 15 years as a Quality Control Specialist.

She is survived by her husband, Dwight Steven Garry; daughter, Brittany Elizabeth Garry; father, Rev. Isaac Jackson Sr.; three brothers, Iverson C,. Isaac, David Jackson; nine sisters, Wanda J. Jackson, Brenda A. Jackson-Nelson, Annette Jackson, Denise J. Steen, Melinda L. Jackson, Priscilla A. Jackson, Jacqueline L. Riley, Linda M. Holmes, Lois Hansberry.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Holy Temple Cathedral Church of God in Christ, 14th and Pulaski, Little Rock. Funeral services entrusted to Gunn Funeral Home.

Wanda Kelley

Wanda LaHoma Kelley of Sherwood, died Feb. 9, 2003, at the age of 66.

She was an active member of the Somers Avenue Church of Christ and a retired mail carrier.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Boyd Kelley; two sons, Greg Kelley of Sherwood and Paul Kelley of Newburg, N.Y.; two grandchildren.

A celebration of her life was held Thursday, Feb. 13, at Somers Avenue Church of Christ with interment in Rest Hills Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the AR Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1100 N. University, Little Rock, Ark. 72207.

James D. Thomas

James D. Thomas, 84, of Harrison died recently. He was an active member of the Woodland Heights Baptist Church, the Missouri Fox Trotters Association, was a 32nd degree Mason, past master and past grand master of the Euclid Lodge of Prosser, Wash., a security patrolman (retired), a member of the Kiwanis International and once served as a police specialist for the Arkansas State Crime Commission.
Survivors include his children, Jim Thomas of Sherwood, Jeanie Engelland of Fox Island, Wash., and Linda Richardson of Bergman; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Feb. 6 at Holt Memorial Chapel, with burial in Maplewood cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the building fund at Woodland Heights Baptist Church.

Oris Wesley Harris
Oris Wesley Harris, 82, of Sherwood, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002.
He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Sherwood, a veteran of WWII, stationed in the Hawaiian Islands and Christmas Island. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee; sons, Gary of Sherwood and Thomas of Lowell; daughter, Lisa Dodd of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Idis, Herman and John Harris; and sister, Opal Taylor.

Funeral services were Feb. 1, at Victory Baptist Church in Sherwood. Burial was in Hardin cemetery in Pine Bluff.

Myrtle Jackson
Myrtle Jackson, age 85 of North Little Rock, died Tuesday, Jan. 29.
She was a member of Park Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors are her husband, Othar; brother, Otis Knight of Sherwood; son, Marion Jackson of Tulsa; sister, Blanche Hanes of Oklahoma City; half sister, Joy Smith; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was Feb. l, at Edgewood Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Westlake Living Center.

Clive G. Thorn
Clive G. Thorn, 79, of North Little Rock, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002. He is survived by a son, Gordon Thorn of Florida; three daughters, Kathleen Harris of Jacksonville, Mary Govett of Texas and Elizabeth Spigelmyer of North Carolina; sister, Dorothy Southern of Sherwood; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Monday at Chapel Hill Memorial Park cemetery in Jacksonville.

Richard Stockton

Richard Lee Stockton, U.S. Marine Corp Gunnery Sergeant, retired, of North Little Rock, died Feb. 1, 2003 at the age of 68.

Gunnery Sergeant Stockton became active duty retired in the Marine Corp in 1975 and received 30 years full retirement in January 1983. In 1976 he became a Sherwood police officer and retired from Wrightsville Department of Correction in 1997. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Pistol Expert Medal (12th Award), and the Rifle Expert Badge (20th Award). He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in North Little Rock.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Pat Stockton; three sons, Richard Jr. of Little Rock, David of Dover, Darryl of North Little Rock; one daughter Deborah Bouwknegt of Cabot; two sisters, Patsy Martin and Blanche Rose; and one brother, Jesse, all of Texarkana, Texas; 9 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life was held Wednesday Feb. 5, at Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Chapel, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, with interment at Arkansas State Veterans cemetery.

Haskell Fortson

Haskell “Hack” Fortson, 72, of North Little Rock died Jan. 29, 2003 in Lonoke.

He was a retired roofing contractor.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine McManus Fortson; mother, Lois Fortson; three sons, Gary Fortson, Steve Fortson and Michael Fortson; two daughters, Cyndie Van Portfliet and Judy Fortson Peterson; sister, Patricia Rebsamen; stepchildren, Gayle Kidd, Rory McManus, Dee Dee McManus Engle; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Feb. 1, at Huson Funeral Home, Sherwood, with burial following at Edgewood cemetery.

Delores Elaine Hunt

Delores Elaine Hunt, 72, of Jacksonville died Feb. 1, 2003.
She was a member of McArthur Assembly of God Church in Jacksonville.

Survivors include her daughter, Sheila F. Billson of Jacksonville; her son, Stacey M. Hunt of Sherwood; five grandchildren; eight great-grandsons; her sister Ethel Peterson of Vancouver, Wash.

A memorial service will be held in her honor at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at McArthur Assembly of God Church, 3501 John Hardin Drive, Jacksonville. Funeral arrangements provided by Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills funeral home, North Little Rock.

J.M. Lentz

J.M. “Jake” Lentz, 74, of Conway died Jan. 27, 2003.
He was a retired master plumber and retired from the railroad. He was a member of Southwest Christian Church in Little Rock.

Survivors include his wife, Jody Barton Lentz of Conway; daughters, Dianna Johnson of Sherwood and Brenda Guillet of Little Rock; a son, Jeff Lentz of Conway; a brother; three sisters; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A private service and a memorial service were held Wednesday at Roller-McNutt Chapel, Conway.

Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 821 Hogan Lane, Suite 300, Conway, 72034.

Orland W. Thompson

Orland William Thompson, 84, of Sherwood died Feb. 3, 2003.
He was a member of Sylvan Hills UMC for more than 60 years. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran and fought in five major battles.

Arthur L. Clay Jr.
Arthur L. Clay Jr., 74, of North Little Rock died Jan. 22, 2002.

Survivors include three sisters, Annie Wallace, Sue Finley and Katherine Moss; and a brother, Arvin Clay.

Graveside service was held at Kennerly cemetery in Roland. Huson Funeral Home of Sherwood was in charge.

Mary Virginia Jones
Mary Virginia Jones, 84, of Little Rock, died Tuesday, January 22, 2002.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Little Rock, past President of the 20th Century Club, past State President of the Arkansas Medical Auxiliary, a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Den Mother and Troop Leader.

She is survived by two sons; Erner Jones., of Sherwood and J. Phelps Jones, of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Marti Hampton, of Little Rock; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

A graveside gathering in remembrance of Mrs. Jones was held Jan. 25, in Oakland cemetery, Fordyce. Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Custom Funerals & Cremations, were in charge.
