Joy Watson

CROSSETT -- Joy Watson, age 87, of Crossett died in the Medical Center of South Arkansas at El Dorado on Dec. 9, 2005.

She was born in Monticello on Jan. 12, 1918, to William A. and Louetta Kimbro Sommerville. Mrs. Watson was a homemaker, wonderful wife and mother. She was a former Girl Scout leader, special education aide and a longtime Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Crossett.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 67 years, Cecil Watson. She is survived by three daughters, Celia Lamb and husband Charles of El Dorado, Carolyn Sasser and husband Joe of Crossett, and Gay Jackson and husband Larry of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren, Debbie Sharp of Crossett, David Rice of Birmingham, Ala., Shelly Diestel of Middletown, R.I., Sharon Gunter of Austin, Texas, Chris Lamb of El Dorado, and Aaron and Zac Jackson of Jonesboro; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home Chapel with David Tholen and Eric Hodge officiating.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Interment will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Paul Sullins Public Library, 1700 Main St., Crossett 71635 or Build Your House on the Rock Ministries (Guatemala), P.O. Box 12764, Lake Charles, La.

Allison Gail Wells

PARAGOULD -- Allison Gail Wells, 26, of Paragould, died Friday at UAMS in Little Rock.

She had lived in Jonesboro since she was in the fifth grade.

Allison moved to Paragould last year following her marriage to Jim Wells. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

Allison was an honor graduate of Jonesboro High School and studied music/theater at Ouachita Baptist University. She was also a graduate of the ASU School of Cosmetology in Marked Tree.

Allison is survived by her husband, Jim Wells of Paragould. She is also survived by her parents Ric and Margaret Hunt, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Aaron Hunt, Houston, Texas; a sister, Mandy See, Dahlgren, Va.; her maternal grandfather, Bertell Jackson, Lubbock, Texas; and her paternal grandparents, Walter and Aline Hunt, Colorado Springs.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Bernice Jackson.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday in the Central Baptist Church at Jonesboro. Dr. Rodney Reeves and the Rev. Rex Holt will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brandon Emerson, Eric Brown, Glenn Jones, Mark Lewis, Steve Jones and Max Dacus. Burial will be private.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at Central Baptist Church.

Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Erwin Gilbert Wilday

MARKED TREE -- Erwin Gilbert Wilday, 83, of Marked Tree died Friday, Dec. 9, at NEA Medical Center.

Born at Delavin, Wis., he was a retired factory worker of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include two sisters, Shirley Cantwell of Marked Tree and Irene Sexton of St. John, Ind.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Wilson Funeral Home at Tyronza, with Gary Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Harris Chapel Cemetery at Wynne.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Louise Williams

RECTOR -- Funeral services for 80-year-old Louise Williams of Rector, who died Dec. 9 in Craighead Nursing Center at Jonesboro, will be at 2 p.m. today at Rector First Baptist Church, with Ardell Polk and Jerry Jolly officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Williams, Jan. 22, 1997; and her parents, Ben and Effie Little.

Mrs. Williams was a member of Rector First Baptist Church and the Eastern Star and was a cafeteria worker for the Rector school system.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald and Kathy Williams of Jonesboro and Danny Williams of Rector; a granddaughter, Heather Williams of Jonesboro; a brother, Bob Little of Rector; four sisters, Billie Parish of Jonesboro, Betty Baker of Mountain Home, Peggy Williams of Piggott and Shirley Shelton of Kennett, Mo.

Pallbearers will be Roger Little, Rick Baker, Barry Parish, Tony Parish, Jimmy Fielder and Wayne Stevenson.

Stella Mae Bryant

BATESVILLE -- Stella Mae Bryant, 99, died Monday, Dec. 12, in Batesville. She was born March 14, 1906, at Oxford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marshel Paul Bryant; two sisters, Nora Hamm and Eathel Beatrice; and a foster brother, Randall.

Survivors include two daughters, Paula Killian and Jo Cudd, both of Batesville; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville. Arrangements are by Qualls Funeral Service of Batesville.

No visitation is planned.

Gene Childers

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. -- Funeral services for Ernest Eugene "Gene" Childers, 75, of North Augusta, S.C., who died Dec. 12, will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at the Asbury United Methodist Church with the Revs. Randy Monk and W. Sherrell Dunn officiating. Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Gardens.

Childers was a native of Jonesboro, having made North Augusta his home for the past 43 years. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where he served as a former chairman of the Administrative Council, was a Sunday School teacher, and participated in the Heart to Hope Food Pantry. He was a Marine Corps veteran, retired district manager of Murphy Oil Corp., member of Gideons International North Augusta-Edgefield Chapter, and brother of the late Preston Childers.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Childers; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Martha Childers of North Augusta and Don and Nancy Childers of Evans; a daughter, Susie Childers of North Augusta; four grandchildren, Donnie Childers, Wes and Sarah Childers, Matthew Childers and Catherine Childers; a brother, Frank Childers of Brookland; and a sister, Maxine Hannah of Jonesboro.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sunshine Sunday School class and Gideons International North Augusta-Edgefield Chapter. Active pallbearers are Donnie Childers, Wes Childers, Matthew Childers, Russ Hannah, Scott Childers, Ramsom Rabun and Brandon Rabun.

Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1305 Troupe St., Augusta, Ga. 30904 or to the Gideons International North Augusta-Edgefield Chapter, P.O. Box 7444, North Augusta, S.C. 29861.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home of North Augusta is in charge of arrangements.

Shelby Mosley Cole

BLYTHEVILLE -- Shelby Mosley Cole, 70, of Blytheville died Tuesday at Great River Medical Center.

Survivors include her daughter, Denise Hitchcock and companion, Bruce Payne, of Pontotoc, Miss.; son, Benny Cochran of Blytheville; stepdaughter, Lola Gifford Bowen and her husband Ray of Blytheville; sister, Lois Huff of Gosnell; two brothers, Bill Mosley of St. Louis and Don Mosley of Blytheville; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Cobb Funeral Home in Blytheville with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bonetta 'Bonnie' Downing

JONESBORO -- Bonnetta "Bonnie" Downing, 85, of Jonesboro, formerly of Weiner, died Monday, Dec. 12, at her residence.

She was born in Jonesboro to Albert and Bonnie King Gray. Mrs. Downing was a retired office manager for Langford Funeral Services in Jonesboro, working for them for about 40 years. Mrs. Downing also owned and operated the International Harvester Farm Equipment Co. in Weiner with her late husband, Count Downing. She was active in the Eastern Star and Garden Club in Weiner and Elks Lodge in Jonesboro.

She was survived by a stepdaughter, Dianna Downing Nading of Arizona; a sister, Helen Earnhart of Batesville; three grandsons, Robert Boward of Weiner, Vincent "Gus" Descher of Asheville, N.C., and John Wofford of Weiner; four great-grandsons; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.L.V. "Count" Downing, in 1964.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Weiner.

Visitation will follow the service in the cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Weiner Cemetery Fund.

Charles 'Ron' Fuqua

ST. CHARLES. Mo. -- Charles "Ron" Fuqua, 71, of St. Charles, Mo., died Dec. 12 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Born April 8, 1934, in Jonesboro, he was an airplane mechanic and was employed by Ozark and TWA Airlines in St. Louis for 45 years. He served in the Air Force from May 5, 1953, to May 4, 1961. He was also a member of St. Charles Masonic Palestine Lodge #241 and Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Ray and DeLois Fuqua; and two brothers, Stephen and Gale Fuqua.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Fuqua of St. Charles; three daughters, Sherry Horrell and Sandra Therrien, both of St. Charles, and Stephanie Grothen of St. Peters, Mo.; two sons, Charles "Lee" Fuqua of St. Charles and Lance Fuqua of St. Peters; nine grandsons, Ryan Therrien, Matthew Phillips, Michael Phillips, Mark Phillips, Stephen Phillips, Alec Horrell, Derek Fuqua, Andrew Fuqua and Austin Fuqua; and three granddaughters, Sarah Phillips, Katie Grothen and Alyssa Fuqua.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 1402 First Capitol Drive, in St. Charles, with a visitation at 1 p.m. the church. Interment will take place in St. Charles Memorial Gardens, 3950 West Clay, at St. Charles.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Baue Funeral Home.
