Mary Ann Mashek Whitbey

Mary Ann Mashek Whitbey, age 54, of Little Rock died Saturday February 24, 2001. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of the late Rudolph Mashek and her mother Anna Elizabeth Barborek Mashek who lives in Little Rock. Mrs. Whitbey was raised in Little Rock and after high school she attended cosmetology school. She later became a secretary for the Democrat Printing and Lithographing Company for over 15 years. She was also a patient care technician at the Bridgeway Hospital. Mrs. Whitbey was a volunteer with St. Vincent Auxiliary, and Regional AIDS Interfaith Network. She was member of Christ The King Catholic Church.

She is survived by one son Stanley G. Whitbey of Little Rock and partner Craig Murders, one daughter Amy E. Newsom of North Little Rock and husband Kevin, and one grandson, Jacob Newsom.

There will be a Vigil 7:00 P.M. Monday at Ruebel Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass at Christ The King Catholic Church at 10 A.M. Tuesday, February 27th., officiated by Monsignor Gaston Hebert. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to St. Vincent Hospital Auxilliary.

Margaret Harris Whitehead

Margaret Harris Whitehead, age 88 of Little Rock, died Wednesday, September 12, 2001. She was born in Warren Arkansas the daughter of the late John Wesley and Maymie Farrell Harris. Margaret graduated from Mount Saint Mary Academy later marrying James Benjamin Whitehead who died in 1980. During her active years Margaret and her husband owned and operated the Whitehead Plumbing and Heating Company in Montgomery, Alabama.

She is survived by her daughter Jaylene Whitehead Butler and husband Frank of Little Rock, one grandson Jason Boodoian and wife Devon, and one great-granddaughter. Mrs. Whitehead was the niece of the late Mattie Lou Harris Wentz and Chick Harris of Warren.

There will be a formal visitation Friday from 5 to 7 P.M. at the Ruebel Funeral Home followed by a graveside service Saturday at 1 P.M. at the Oakland cemetery in Warren, Arkansas officiated by Reverend Wayman Mann. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to the Children's Hospital Foundation.

Frances A. Whitener

Frances A. Whitener, 96, of Little Rock died Thursday, March 29, 2001. She was born in Carthage, AR, one of thirteen children born to Walter and Mary Frances Williams. She was married to Robert Whitener who preceded her in death. Mrs. Whitener was a member of the Crystal Hill Baptist Church and loved the out-of-doors, especially hunting.

She is survived by two grandsons, Robert Elliott, of Nashville, TN and John Whitener and his wife Kristen of Little Rock and one great-granddaughter, Kaycie Whitener, one son-in-law Raymond Adams of Augusta, GA, a daughter-in-law, Brenda Whitener of Little Rock, two step-granddaughters, Kelly Mayhue of Ft. Smith and Carla Sanders of Rogers and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by two daughters, Fran Adams and Margie Elliott and a son, Russ Whitener.

A visitation will be held from 5-7p.m. Friday at the Ruebel Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at the Ruebel Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, officiated by Rev. Larry Ballard. Burial will be in the Pinecrest Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to "Our Vision" c/o Crystal Hill Baptist Church, 18823 Crystal Valley Rd. Little Rock, 72210. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Geneva Jones Winters

Geneva Jones Winters, age 84, of Little Rock, died Wednesday, August 15, 2001. She was born in Little Rock. She later graduated from Conway Baptist College receiving her Masters degree in education. She taught elementary school but enjoyed most the Kindergarten level of which she devoted most of her time, retiring after twenty five of service, in 1981. Geneva was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church, a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher's Sorority, Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, and a member of the Arkansas and Little Rock Retired Teacher's Association.

She is survived by her son Larry F. Winters and wife LeAnne of Maumelle, Arkansas, 2 grandchildren, Drew and Stacey Winters, 5 nieces Sue Bustion of Rolla, Missouri, Ann Clark of Toronto, Canada, Ellen Long of Fripp Island, South Carolina, Carol Holcomb of Little Rock, one nephew Paul Jolly of Bethesda, Maryland. and a longtime friend and caregiver Gladys Adair.

There will be a visitation with family Thursday from 5 to 7 P.M. at Ruebel Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service Friday at 10 A.M. at the funeral home chapel officiated by Dr. Rex Horne. Burial will be at Roselawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church or the Geneva Winters Scholarship Fund At the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Sirvetus "Si" Womack, Jr.

Sirvetus "Si" Womack, Jr. of Quitman, AR passed away Thursday, March 8, 2001. Si was born September 29, 1926 in Murfreesboro, AR. Si graduated from Murfreesboro High School. He and his family moved to Little Rock in 1942. He served in the U. S. Navy from October 1944 to April 1946, attended Little Rock Junior College and was employed with American Air Lines, Ralston Purina Co., and Coopers Communities at Cherokee Village. He left Cherokee Village for Fairfield Bay in it's infancy. Si started as a salesman and was elevated to Vice President of sales. He retired from Fairfield Bay as Director of Public Relations. Si was a Charter member of Fairfield Bay Rotary Club, former Vice President of the Russellville Jaycees and a member of the Lions Club. Si was a big Razorback fan, volunteering to work with the Razorback Foundation, and Booster Club for several years supporting the hogs enthusiastically, attending most of the bowl games.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Belle Womack, a sister and brother-in-law, Benny Sue and Paul Galsendo of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by his only child Susan Gail Womack Tunnison. Si was a member of the Greenbrier Church of Christ and was a Sunday School teacher, . Visitation will be held from 3-5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2001 at the Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham in Little Rock followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Greenbrier Church of Christ with Mr. Bob Turner officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

James Clark Wood

James Clark (Button) Wood, 89, of Washington, D.C., died April 17, 2001 at Sibley Hospital, Washington, D.C. Mr. Wood was born in Mariana, Arkansas and moved to Little Rock as a child. He moved to Washington, D.C. in 1992 following the death of his wife, Frances Kirten Wood, to be near his son James Wood, Jr., and his son's family. Mr. Wood was an active, long time member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Parish, and a supporter of youth athletic programs in Pulaski County. He attended the University of the South at Sewanee in Tennessee.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday May 6th at 2:30 P.M. at the columbarium at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, officiated by The Very Reverend Henry Hudson. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

James William "Bill" Wood

James William "Bill" Wood, age 87 of Little Rock, died Sunday, August 11, 2001. He was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia. His family moved to Texas in 1920 and resided in Fort Worth. Bill Wood moved to Little Rock in 1941. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects, retiring after 37 years with Wittenberg, Delony and Davidson Architect firm. He was a past president of the Mid Southern Watercolorist Association and his paintings are represented in numerous corporate and private collections. Mr. Wood was an avid golfer until age 80 and served two terms as president of the local Bi-Weekly Golfer's Association. During World War II he served in the 880th Battalion of the Air Born Engineers from 1942 to 1946. Staff Sergeant Wood saw duty in Asia, Pacific, New Guinea Theatres and was involved with the Philippine Liberation. He was a longtime member of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Wood is predeceased by his wife Mary Davidson Wood who died in 1990. He is survived by two daughters Melissa Ann Wood and husband Stephen Coffeen of Davis, California, Paula W. Highfill of Little Rock, brother John Paul Wood and wife Elizabeth of Fort Worth, Texas, sister-in-law Irene Davidson, nephew Randy Davidson of Rogers, Arkansas, one grandchild Robert Todd Highfill and one great-grandchild Robert Todd Wood, Jr.

A graveside service will be held on August 27, at 10:00 a.m. at Roselawn cemetery. Arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Westover Hills Presbyterian Church.

John Todd Henry McCann

John Todd Henry McCann, age 55, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died Tuesday, April 1st, 2003. He was born in England, Arkansas later becoming an 18 wheeler cross country and local driver. He loved hunting, fishing and being with his family.

John is survived by his wife Tommie Jones McCann of Little Rock, four sons, John Wayne McCann of Little Rock, Jimmy Lee McCann and wife Kimberly of Alexander, Thomas Clarence McCann and wife Melanie of Mabelvale, Christopher Patrick McCann of Little Rock, 6 brothers, Omer McCann of Albany, Georgia, Curtis McCann of Cave Springs, Arkansas, Ronald McCann of Plumberville, Arkansas, Donnie McCann of Oklahoma, Charles McCann of Little Rock, Joe McCann of Little Rock, three sisters, Peggy Fryar of Little Rock, Bobbie Jean Morgan of Little Rock, Judy Fowler of Hensley, Arkansas, and 8 grandchildren.

There will be a visitation Thursday, April 3, from 6 to 8pm at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham Street, followed Friday by a graveside service at 2 pm at Woodson cemetery officiated by Reverend Gerald Wyles. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home

Rosemary Arendt McCormick

Rosemary Arendt McCormick, 87, of Little Rock died Thursday, March 13, 2003. She was born in Little Rock to John C. and Georgie Amer Arendt. She was predeceased by her husbands, Travis E. Cowart and James I. McCormick. After retiring as an Administrative Assistant from International Graphics she was employed by Trinity United Methodist Church in their nursery program. Mrs. McCormick was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and greatly enjoyed gardening. She is survived by her daughter, Georgiana Soderberg and her husband, Lee of Little Rock, a son, Trent Cowart and his wife Jan of Glen Rock, PA, a brother, David O. Arendt of Little Rock, and four granddaughters, Laura and Emily Soderberg of Little Rock and Tracy and Trisha Cowart of Washington, D.C. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1101 N. Mississippi, Little Rock, 72207.

Mary Stewart McGehee

Mary Stewart McGehee of Little Rock, widow of Abner McGehee, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Harry C. Schmeisser of Memphis, TN, passed away at home on June 11, 2003, of natural causes. Known as "Stew" to her closest friends, she was born in Memphis, TN on May 3, 1926. Stew was educated at Hutchinson School, graduated Bennett Junior College, and earned her B.A. degree at Vanderbuilt University. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity. She was a past board member of the Junior League, Little Rock, a member of the Little Rock Country Club and a member and past Steward of First United Methodist Church. She was a past board member of the Boys Club and Children with Learning Disabilities, and a member of the American Red Cross.

She is survived by her two sons, Stewart B. McGehee of Little Rock and Abner "Chip" McGehee, Jr. of Irvine, California. Her daughter-in-law, Melanie McGehee and grandchildren Daniel Patrick McGehee, Chelsea Alexandra McGehee, and Emily Marie McGehee, all of Irvine, California also survive her.

Memorials should be sent to the Child Development Center of First United Methodist Church of Little Rock or American Red Cross.

The viewing will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home on 6313 Markham St. in Little Rock on Monday, June 16, 2003 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church on Center St. in Little Rock on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. Internment immediately following services at Roselawn cemetery in Little Rock. Arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home.

Patricia Louise Hays McGehee

Patricia Louise Hays McGehee, of Little Rock, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died on Wednesday, January 15, 2003. She was born in Little Rock to Patrick Hercules and Sallie Mae Sullenberger Hays. She was a graduate of Little Rock High School and attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Pat was a loan assistant for 16 years with the Veteran’s Administration in North Little Rock. She was a life-long member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church and a member of the Upper Room Sunday School Class. She was a member of AARP Chapter 34, where she enjoyed playing bridge, and the Leawood Garden Club. Pat was a gracious hostess to her many friends for whom she loved to cook and entertain. She loved to travel in the United States, especially to the beach and beautiful gardens.. She is survived by her husband of twenty-two years, Frank Thomas McGehee, her children, Steven R. Brown and his wife, Debbie of North Little Rock, Robin L. Boe and her husband Jeffrey of Aurora, CO, Gary W. Brown of North Little Rock and Shelley K. Brixey and her husband Jason of Mablevale, a sister, Katherine Treece and her husband Bob of Little Rock and three grandchildren, Laura and Katie Boe and Lauren Brixey. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, at the Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church.

Ernest Messer

Ernest Messer, a 25 year resident of Austin, TX died there of natural causes on February 9, 2003, at the age of 94. He was born in Tokio, AR on July 15, 1908 to Rev. C. F. and Anna Messer.

Mr. Messer had an extensive career as a mining and civil engineer. He got his academic training at the university of Michigan. His first job was with Mobil Oil Corp. of Texas. Among his Arkansas Connections, he helped build the Army-Navy Hospital in Hot Springs in the mid 1930’s, worked for Alcoa Aluminum Co. in Bauxite during WWII and headed their Oregon Exploration Operation from 1945-50. His subsequent work included the Bob McIlwaine Co. of Little Rock and the Utah Mining Co. of San Francisco. He ended his career with the Espey-Huston Company in Austin, TX from 1978 to the early 90’s.

He is survived by his loving wife, Josephine Weatherton Messer of Austin and formerly of Little Rock; son Paul Messer, daughters Martha Barker and Mary Messer; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Ossorio. Private burial arrangements at Roselawn Memorial Park are being made by Ruebel Funeral Home of Little Rock.

George Robert Miller

George Robert (Bob) Miller, 75, died September 23, 2003, at the Arkansas Veterans Home in Little Rock. He lived most of his life in Little Rock. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. Mr. Miller graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he was a member of SAE fraternity and Theta Tau engineering fraternity. He held positions with IBM and with Schlumberger Well Services before returning to Little Rock in 1968 when he opened Arkansas Rental Center.

Mr. Miller was a member of First United Methodist Church of Little Rock, a member of the Country Club of Little Rock, and a member of the Red, White and Blue Investment Club. In 1976 he suffered a severe stroke which limited his activities in future years. He became a resident of the Veterans Home in 1993. We are grateful for the kindness shown to him for all these years by the staff at the Home.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Witkowski of Washington, and Cindy Duggan of California; two grandchildren, Bradley Hamilton and Sara Hamilton; and one great-grandson, Nathaniel. He is also survived by a sister, Carol Becknell of Maryland.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at the Arkansas Veterans Home, 4701 W. 20th Street in Little Rock.

You may send flowers to the Home for the service. Donations may be sent to the Red Cross.

We will miss Daddy's wonderful sense of humor and his amazing ability to smile through life's trials and tribulations.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.
