Mary Boone
Mary Boone, age 72, of Helena, MT, died of natural causes Thursday, December 4, 2003 in Helena. Mary was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, February 2, 1931 to Rhea Benham and Grace (O'Kelly) Myers. Mary received her grade school and high school education in Arkansas, continuing to receive a B.S. degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Mary and Thomas L. Boone were married
in Little Rock, Arkansas in October of 1958. She was a member of D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution), the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames, President of the Women's Auxiliary of Little Rock Boys Club, the Country Club of Little Rock and PSI Chapter Chi Omega.
Her parents and sister Susannah Carroll preceded her in death. Mary is survived by her husband Thomas of Helena, her son Thomas Jr. of Conway, Arkansas, daughters Grace B. Richardson of Helena, MT and Claiborne Barbaree of Little Rock Arkansas and six grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at the Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church in Little Rock. Burial will follow at Calvary cemetery in Little Rock. A reception will follow at the Holiday Inn, 201 S. Shackleford Rd., Little Rock. Local arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Chippewa-Cree Senior Citizens Center at Rocky Boy, Montana 59521 or to an organization of the donor's choice.
William Hastings Bransford Jr.
William Hastings Bransford, age 81 years, of Little Rock passed away Sunday, July 13, 2003. He was born November 12, 1921, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late William H. and Bessie Walt Bransford, Sr. Mr. Bransford grew up in Lonoke, Arkansas where he graduated from Lonoke High School. He spent two years at the University of Arkansas before transferring to Georgia Institute of Technology, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. After his graduation, he was employed by United Aircraft Corp., as a research engineer. During World War II Mr. Bransford was a naval officer. He served aboard a gunboat and rocket ship in the Pacific Theatre. After the war he was employed by Great Lakes Carbon Corp., as a division engineer in the buildings material division. In 1950 he returned to Lonoke to run the Bransford Gin Company. He and his family moved to Little Rock in the early 60's where he was involved in several enterprises, including an insurance company, farming, real estate development in Arkansas and Louisiana, and general investments. He was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, Kappa Sigma Fraternity, a 32 Degree Mason, and The Poets Club.
Mr. Bransford is predeceased by two brothers; Lee Walt Bransford and Dr. Robert Bransford, his wife Jane Cannaday Bransford, and his wife of twenty-seven years and the mother of his children, Frances Moses Bransford. He is survived by two daughters; Frances Beth Bransford and Mary Moses Sours and husband Don all of Chico, California, two sons William Hastings Bransford, III and Lawson W. Turner, III both of Little Rock, eight grandchildren, Susan, Caroline, and William Hastings Bransford, IV of Little Rock, Jane Ann Wagner of Sacramento, California, William Hamilton and Jacob Lawson Cooper of Chico, California, Mary Frances Isakov and husband Chris of Annapolis, Maryland, Withers Turner of Fayetteville, Arkansas and three great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm at Ruebel Funeral Home followed Thursday with graveside services at 11:00 am at Lonoke cemetery officiated by Reverend Dr. Jeff Hampton. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Theodore F. Brooks
Theodore F. “Buck” Brooks, Sr. 87, of Mabelvale, died Monday, February 17, 2003. He was born in Forney, TX to G.C. and Perna Milholland Brooks. He married
Edith Meddley and they were married
52 years before her death in 1988. He was employed by Sam Mitchell Interior Painting and Decorating before joining the Little Rock Police Department in 1941. He retired from the Department in 1972, and worked as a Security Guard at the then Worthen Bank . In the mid 1960’s he purchased and operated the Funeral Escort Service. Buck was a member of the Sixth and Izard Church of Christ and then later the Mabelvale Church of Christ. He is survived by his children, Ted Brooks, Jr. and his wife, Julia, Beth Butler and her husband Richard and Claudia Meeks and her husband, Larry, all of Mabelvale, a sister, Artie Mae Little of Morris, OK, a brother, Henry Brooks of Mabelvale, two grandchildren, Stephanie Percefull of Andover, MN and Darrin Meeks of Little Rock, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by a brother, J. C. Brooks. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Mabelvale Church of Christ or The Children’s Home in Paragould, AR.
Arthur Bruce Buck, Jr.
Arthur Bruce (A.B.) Buck, Jr. age 86, of Little Rock, died on Wednesday, July 30th. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia Davidson Buck. Mr. Buck was born in Memphis, TN, the son of Arthur Bruce Buck, Sr. and Lola Richardson Buck. He graduated from Little Rock High School, where he was drum major and played trombone with a popular dance band. He served with valor in the Navy in World War II, and participated in the invasions of Guadalcanal, Okinawa, Southern France and Sicily. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 43 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a long time member of First United Methodist Church in Forrest City.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Bruce Buck (Fran) of Hope and Brantly Buck (Kate) of Little Rock, a sister, Cordelia Buck Stumberg, of St. Charles, MO, and 4 grandchildren, Philip, David, Jenny and James Buck.
Services will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Walter Smith and Rev. Louann Murphy, followed by a family graveside service at Roselawn cemetery.
The family requests that memorials be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Mississippi and Evergreen, Little Rock, AR 72207, Central Arkansas Library System, 100 Rock St. Little Rock, AR 72201 or a favorite charity. The family extends its thanks to the staff of Pleasant Valley Living Center.

Ted E. Bueter
Ted E. Bueter, 71, of Little Rock and Hot Springs passed away April 12, 2003 surrounded by his family. Born October 22, 1931 in Quincy, Illinois. His early years were in Danville, Illinois. From 1951 to 1955 he served in the United States Air Force. Ted attended the University of Illinois, then began his career in the commercial baking business. In 1961 Meyer's Bakery brought him to Little Rock as sales manager. In 1967 he changed his profession to the real estate business joining Rector Phillips Morse as a salesman. He opened his own firm beginning with Hughes, Vroman Bueter, then Bueter-Gibson which became Bueter Realty and served on the board of directors of the Little Rock board of Realtors. His retirement found him enjoying Lake Hamilton.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Barbara Pearson, also of Danville, Illinois, their son Randy Bueter, married
to the former Patricia McMath and three grand-daughters, Sydney Anne Blackmon, wife of Bentley Blackmon, Bonnie Kate Bueter and Jennifer Tia Bueter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic High School for Boys.

Emma Louise French Ford Byrd
Emma Louise French Ford Byrd, age 89, of Little Rock, died January 11, 2003. She was born in Perry, Arkansas. She was a graduate of City Business College, the Draughon Business School and became a stenographer for the United State Government. She was active with the St. Vincent Ladies Auxiliary, a member of Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church where she was a member the Ladies Alter Society. She was also a member of the Little Rock Scripture Study Group, the Abby Retreat League, Coury House at Subiaco, a member of Cursillo #22 and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
She is preceded in death by her husband William Frank Byrd who died in 1976, two stepsons; William F. Byrd, Jr., and Charles Robert Byrd, and her son Elbert Hugh Ford. She is survived by one daughter-in-law Joan Ford Collierville, Tennessee, two sisters Mary Elizabeth Roberts of Lexington, South Carolina, Helen Hayes of Mabelvale, one brother, Elder T. French and wife Billie of Benton, 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchild.
There will be a visitation Monday from 5 to 7p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7 P.M. There will a Mass of Christian burial Tuesday at 11 A.M. at Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Roselawn cemetery. Arrangements are under he direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.
Rhode B. Causey
Rhode B. Causey, 99, of North Little Rock, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2003. He was born on Feb. 6, 1904, in Ruston, La. where he grew up. After graduation in 1927 from Louisiana Tech in Ruston, he worked in sales for several major firms in Pine Bluff and Little Rock. He was regional manager for Marchant Calculator Company until 1953 when he formed the R. B. Causey Company. This 50-year-old office machine distributor continues in business today with his son, Blanchard Causey, as president. Mr. Causey remained active in his business long after normal retirement age, continuing to go the office daily until just a few weeks ago. In 2000, the Prime Time Program honored him as Arkansas' oldest living active full time worker. In that capacity, he joined other older active workers from all 50 states in a special meeting in Washington where their accomplishments were recognized in both Houses of Congress and they appeared before a Joint Committee on Employment of the Senior Worker. Mr. Causey was recognized as one of the oldest living alumni of Louisiana Tech at the school's 2001 Homecoming celebration.
He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Little Rock and the Baraca Sunday School Class for many years. Prior to that, he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Baring Cross Baptist Church in North Little Rock and Ohio Street Baptist Church in Pine Bluff. He has been a Mason for nearly 60 years.
An energetic sportsman, he was a long time member of Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed fishing as well. He spent many hours supervising and working on his rice and soybean farm in Prairie County. Another hobby was beekeeping and, until recently, he maintained a number of hives on his farm. He was often called upon to "rescue" swarms of bees that collected in public places in Little Rock.
Mr. Causey was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Reed Causey of Pine Bluff in 1963 and by several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Gaylia Causey Fortson and her husband D. Eugene Fortson of Little Rock; his son, Blanchard Causey and his wife Lynn of North Little Rock; a brother, M.L. Causey of Monroe, La.; and a sister, Lucille Smith of Ruston, La. In addition to the above, six grandchildren survive him; Gregory Hoyt Fortson of Little Rock; Daria Causey Aldridge of Memphis; Gigi Fortson Bailey of Little Rock; Grant Eugene Fortson of Little Rock; Vicki Causey Steadman of North little Rock; and Alyssa Causey Burke of Lewisville, Texas. 13 great-grandchildren also survive him.
Funeral services will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home in Little Rock at 11 a.m. on Tuesday with Dr. Rex Horne officiating. Family and friends burial services will be at Graceland cemetery in Pine Bluff at 3 p.m. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham in Little Rock.

Brigadier General Edwin S. Chickering
Brigadier General Edwin S. Chickering, fondly known as “Chick”, died Friday, February 14, 2003 in Little Rock. He was born September 21, 1912, the third of four children of James and Helen Chickering of Oil City, Pennsylvania, where his father was with the Oil Well Supply Company. He grew up in Oil City, attended the University School in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated with an engineering degree from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1935 where he was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity as were his father and older brother before him. During his boyhood, Chick developed a passion for flight, leading him to build and then fly his own glider which hung in the engineering lab at Lehigh for many years. Following graduation from Lehigh he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and attended flight school at Randolph and Kelly Fields in San Antonio, Texas. After winning his wings he applied for and was awarded a regular commission as a Second Lieutenant and was assigned to Kelly Field as an instructor. During this time he met and married
Mary Jim Lane of Little Rock, Arkansas.
When the U. S. entered World War II, Chick was appointed Commander of the 357th Fighter Group which he led in combat from England. In June of 1944 he went into Normandy on D-Day Plus Two with advance elements of the Ninth Tactical Air Force to establish airfields which would be used by the Allies. Subsequently he was named Commander of the 367th Fighter group which he led until the war ended. During the war he was promoted to Colonel.
Following World War II, Colonel Chickering became an instructor at the Air Command and Staff School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. He attended the Air War College, graduating in 1950. In November of 1950 the Chickerings’ son James was born.
During the Korean conflict, Colonel Chickering served as Deputy Commander of the Air Force Fighter Weapons School, Las Vegas, Nevada, and later commanded the 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing at Kimpo, Korea.
Upon his return to the U. S. from Korea, Colonel Chickering became Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations of the Ninth Air Force and was based at Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina. In 1954 he was promoted to Brigadier General and assigned as Commander of the 405th Fighter Bomber Wing and Commander of Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. These organizations were merged into the 836th Air Division in 1957 which General Chickering commanded. During his tour of duty at Langley, General Chickering was awarded a commendation from the community of Hampton Roads for exceptional community service that raised the prestige of the military and greatly improved the relations between the military personnel of Langley and the surrounding area.
In 1958 General Chickering was assigned as Chief of Staff for Operations of the Pacific Air Forces, Hickam Air Force Base, Honolulu, Hawaii. In August of the following year he took command of the Pacific Air Forces Base Command, the Hawaiian Air Defense Division, and Hickam Air Force Base. During his tour of duty, statehood brought many exciting changes to Hawaii.
Returning to the mainland in 1961, General Chickering was assigned to the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force and later to the Office of the Secretary of Defense on a special project with the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. His last military assignment followed as Chief of Staff to the U. S. Representative to the NATO Military Committee and Standing Group. General Chickering retired in November of 1967 in Alexandria, Virginia.
Active as always in his retirement, Chick worked several years for a Baltimore, Maryland engineering firm. He also was a founding member of the Clan Hamilton Society at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in Linville, North Carolina and served as its Arkansas Commissioner after moving to Little Rock. Chick was an active Rotarian and held several offices including President.
General Chickering always encouraged youth and education, and in addition to the schools which he attended, he supported The Episcopal High School of Alexandria, Virginia, The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, and The College School of Webster Groves, Missouri, among others. He also generously supported the construction of the new Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, North Carolina.
Chick is survived by his wife Mary Jim Chickering, his son Jim Chickering and daughter-in-law Robin Chickering of St. Louis, Missouri, his grandchildren Allison Christine Chickering and Edwin Shepard Chickering II, also of St. Louis, his older brother Kenton Chickering of Houston, Texas, nephews, Kenton Chickering III of Houston, Texas, Scott Chickering of The Woodlands, Texas, Benjamin Hamilton Chickering of Canton Georgia, a niece, Mrs. Carolyn Moore of Hilton Head, South Carolina, a nephew, Col. Champlin F. Buck III of Alexandria, Virginia, many cousins, and a host of admiring friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Easter Seals of Arkansas (3920 Woodland Heights Rd, Little Rock, AR 72212), All Saints Episcopal Mission (P. O. Box 117, Linville, NC 28646), The Friends of the Air Force Academy Library (P. O. Box 188, U. S. Air Force Academy, Colorado, 80840), or to another worthy cause.

Bettie L. Black Christeson
Bettie L. Black Christeson, of Little Rock, died on Thursday, March 6, 2003. She was the widow of Dr. William Watkins Christeson who preceded her in death on June 4, 1993. Mrs. Christeson was a communicant member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral for thirty years. Her memberships included The Little Rock DAR Centennial chapter, Past State President of the Arkansas Pioneers Association, founding member of the Old State House Museum Association where she served on the board of directors for eight years and a member of the Little Rock Departmental Club as well as being an active volunteer in several other organizations. She is survived by her children, Marcus E Black of Loveland, CO and Imelda N. Black of Austin, TX, her brother, John C. Lloyd, two sisters, Eleanor McCoy and Grace Bascope’. She is also survived by Dr. Christeson’s children, Michael Christeson, Diane Phillips, Carol Bulloch and family and several grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral by the Very Reverend Henry Hudson. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park.The family will receive friend from 6-8 pm on Sunday evening at the Funeral Home. Pallbearers will include Dr. Tom Roberts, Michael Christeson, Tyler Bulloch, Victor Bulloch III, Victor Bulloch IV, and Wesley Bulloch. Honorary pallbearers will be Hannah Christeson, and Cole Bulloch. In lieu of floral tributes, Mrs. Christeson asked that donations may be made to CARTI and/or Angels in the Attic. Hilda Cornish Coates
Hilda Cornish Coates, age 98, of Little Rock died Wednesday, February 12 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born in Little Rock on March 21, 1904, to Ed and Hilda Cornish. She was pre-deceased by her husband, James Mitchell Coates, in 1982. They had been married
for 57 years.
Hilda graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1925. She was active in the Planned Parenthood Movement in Arkansas in the 1930’s and volunteered for the Red Cross during World War II. She was a long-time member of the Junior League of Little Rock and the Country Club of Little Rock. When she was in her 80’s, she volunteered at the Fletcher Public Library for many years.
She is survived by two sons, James Mitchell Coates, Jr., of Tampa, Florida, and Edward Cornish Coates of Little Rock, and by one daughter, Mimi Coates Jones of Atlanta. She is also survived by six grandchildren, James Mitchell Coates, III, of Dallas, Texas, Cindy Coates Miller of Little Rock, Robin Coates Look of Dallas, Bentley Jones of Atlanta, Priscilla Jones McIntosh of Barrington, Illinois, Mimi Jones Stamper of Atlanta, and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family had a private memorial service in Atlanta on Thursday. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 17, at the Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel in Little Rock. Lucille Frances Colaianni
Lucille Frances Colaianni, 81, of Little Rock died Friday, March 21, 2003. She was born December 29, 1921 in Lorain, Ohio to Paul and Frances Colaianni. She received her baccalaureate and master's degrees in French and Spanish from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to coming to Little Rock she taught French and Spanish in Terre Haute, Indiana and at Notre Dame College in Cleveland. For more than a decade she was a member of the papal order of the Sisters of Notre Dame. She was Assistant Professor of Foreign Languages at Little Rock University and then the University of Arkansas at Little Rock from 1964 until her retirement.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers Gilbert P. Colaianni, Sr. and Arthur Colaianni. Survivors include Rosalie M. Cheatham, sisters-in-law Eleanor W. Colaianni and Betty Colaianni, nephew Don Colaianni and his wife Dana, god-daughter and niece Carol Allen and her husband Frank, nephew Gilbert P. Colaianni, Jr. and his wife Teri, niece Janelle Fureigh and her husband Dennis, niece Barbara Colaianni, nephew Arthur Colaianni and nephew Paul Colaianni, nine grand nieces and nephews, seven great grand nieces and nephews and several close friends. The family extends particular thanks to her faithful and loving caregiver, Alicea Gilliam.
Her life and witness will be celebrated in a memorial mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church Monday, March 24 at 2:00 p.m. by Father Gregory Luyet and the Rev. Howard Gordon, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Little Rock. Visitation at Ruebel Funeral Home will be Sunday, March 23 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Department of Foreign Languages, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, 2801 S. University, Little Rock, 72204.
