John Buffington
John A. Buffington, 79, of Lamar died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at his home.
He was born Aug. 9, 1932, in Booneville to the late David Elijah and Julie Ann Emberson Buffington. He was a retired Johnson County Road Department employee.
He was preceeded in death by eight brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Lemons Buffington; two sons, Danny Buffington and wife Linda of Benton and Neal Buffington and wife Anna of Bryant; two daughters, Beverley Hanley and husband John of Lamar and Rita Dorney and husband John of Hartman; one brother, David Edgar Buffington; nine grandchildren, Ronnie Ritchie, Lynard Buffington, Delenah Curtis, Jeffrey Riley, Larry Riley, Michael Riley, Gleeann Buffington, Dakota Cates and William Dorney; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Don Carey officiating.
Pallbearers are Ronnie Ritchie, Lynard Buffington, Jeffrey Riley, Michael Riley, Larry Riley and Danny Rigsby Sr. Honorary pallbearers are William Dorney, J.C. Poole, Larry Griffen, John Hull and J.D. Callahan.
Burial will be at Lamar cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel in Clarksville.

Vincent Lazzorotto
Vincent Manny Lazzorotto died Sept. 21, 2011.
He was born Sept. 21, 2011, at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center. He weighed 9.2 ounces and was 91/2 inches long.
He is survived by his parents, Kelsey Rook and Vincent Lazzorotto of Hector; brothers, Karter Rook and Hayden Lazzorotto of Hector; grandma, Linda Rook of Hector; great-grandmother “GG” of Russellville; aunts and uncles, Alan and Alicia Alderson, Kasey Rook, Karena Rook and Clint Rook, David and Charlene Spencer and Michelle Dowdell; and cousins, James Rudder, Jacelynn Alderson and Jody Cook.
Graveside service and burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Walnut Grove cemetery officiated by Bro. Shane Williams.
Arrangements are by Lemley Funeral Service in Atkins.

Robert Russell
Robert “Bob” Melvin Russell, 81, of Russellville died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Brookridge Cove Nursing Home in Morrilton.
The son of William and Hattie Mae Reynolds Russell, he was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Pope County. He was a retired U.S. Army Veteran having served in England, Germany, Korea and Vietnam. He was a member and bus driver of the DAV Chapter 27 for several years and a longstanding member of the VFW No. 2283 while serving on the honor squad. Also he was a member of the American Legion Post 20 and Masonic Lodge No. 596. Bob was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying carpentry, gardening and fishing, but especially spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Bill, Charles, James and Cletus Russell; and three sisters, Ruby Roberts, Elaine Stone and Ruth Daniels.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 14 years, Louise Russell of Russellville; four children, Roger Russell and wife Gail of Phoenix, Ariz., Robin Russell of Phoenix, Ariz., Steven Hansell and wife Christie of Hot Springs and Regina Hansell of Havana; eight grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Russell of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two sisters, Jean Roach of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Sue Byrd of Pineville, La.; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Humphrey Chapel. Rev. Roger Pierce will officiate. Full military honors will be provided by Rogers-Rye VFW Post No. 2283.
Visitation was Thursday at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

Mary Scott
Mary Frances Scott, 68, of Ola died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at her home.
She was born March 25, 1943, in Sheridan to Willis and Normie Robinson. She enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Willis C. Robinson. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Charles Scott of Ola; one son and daughter-in-law, Scotty and Angela Scott of Bryant; two daughters and one son-in-law, Rhonda and Mark Walker of Lowell and Veronica Lynn Scott of Russellville; and two granddaughters, Amanda and Morgan.
The family will conduct a celebration of life at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Ola with Pastor Brian Rose officiating.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Broussard Funeral Home in Russellville.

J.W. ‘Dub’ Ferguson
J.W. “Dub” Ferguson, 76, of Hartman died Sept. 20, 2011, at Clarksville Health and Rehab.
He was born Nov. 10, 1934, in Chatfield, Texas. He was a retired pest control owner and operator. He was a member of Fernwood Assembly of God Church and a U.S. Marine veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Winnie Ethel (Layton) Ferguson; brothers, Sanford and Joe Ferguson; and sister, Marie Cox.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma (Yeager) Ferguson of the home; daughters, Dianne Bell of Hartman, Sandy Mahan and Norma Ladkins, both of Texas; a son, Steve Ferguson; sisters, Winnie Lyman of Fort Payne, Ala., Leta Bell of Bonham, Texas and Fran Pannell of Powell, Texas; seven grandchildren; Chad (Deborah) Phillips of Wisconsin and Kim (Eddie) Lindsey of Clarksville; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with the Rev. Eddie Birdsong officiating.
Burial will be at Hartman cemetery in Hartman.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Roller-Cox Funeral Home in Clarksville.
Arrangements are by Roller-Cox Funeral Home in Clarksville.

Marjorie E. ‘Midge’ Bott
Marjorie E. “Midge” Bott, 84, a resident of Legacy Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
She was born Sept. 24, 1926, in the Bronx, N.Y., to the Rev. Oscar Charles and May Cyriaks Mees.
Her childhood was spent in Canton, Ohio, where she graduated from McKinley High School in 1944. She graduated in 1948 with a B.S. degree from Capital University in Bexley, Ohio. After teaching in the Whitehall School district, she received her M.A. degree in 1967 from Ohio State University and became a guidance counselor at Mifflin High School. She retired in 1988 as an administrator with the Columbus School System. She and her husband moved to Fort Myers, Fla., for the next 20 years, until moving to Russellville. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Fort Myers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, George F. Bott Sr.; two brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, George F. Bott Jr. of Peralta, N.M., and Dr. Andrew Charles and Dr. Manju Vachher Bott of Brookline, Mass.; a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen Louise and William Parton of Russellville; a brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Gladys Mees of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will conduct a memorial service at a later date. Cremation arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service in Russellville.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Legacy Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their kindness and loving care for both their parents over the past 3 1/2 years.

Eva ‘Geraldine’ Owens Hall
Eva “Geraldine” Owens Hall of Blue Ball died Oct. 4, 2011, at Mitchell’s Nursing Home in Danville, where she has resided since 1990.
She was born Feb. 11, 1926, in Tate Town to John and Erah L. Brantley Owens. She was a wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of Spring Creek Freewill Baptist Church and was a servant of the Lord. She loved gospel music and enjoyed playing her guitar and singing “specials” up to her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents and stepdad, Ted Pollard; husband, Harold Harding Hall; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Hall Millard and husband Otis Ray Millard; brothers, Larry Don Pollard, Ottis Pollard, Troy Defoor and twin brother, Eugene Owens; and sisters, Lillian Owens Garner and Melba Pollard Miller.
Survivors include sons, Harold Gene and wife Peggy James Hall of Pottsville and William Curtis and wife Linda Collier Hall of Russellville; grandchildren, Michelle Millard (Terry) Solley, Lisa Millard (Stacy) Fowler and Shane (Sheila) Millard, all of Blue Ball, Jennifer Hall (Tony) Buffington of Springdale, Dustin (Britt) Hall of Austin, Chris (Erika) Hall of Fayetteville and Aaron (Shelly) Hall of Dover; great-grandchildren, Cody and Dalton Solley, Paige and Cole Fowler, Samuel and Robert Ray Millard, Devan, Katelyn, Julia and Tristan Buffington and Logan Hall, Andrew and Madeline Hall, Blake and Delaney Hammons, and Ashlynn, Megann and Will Hall; sisters-in-law, Catherine Pollard, Jetty Pollard and Shirley Defoor James; and brother-in-law, Herb Miller. She also counted among her special friends, James, Agnes, Robert Mitchell and Sarah Mitchell Sanders of Mitchell’s Nursing Home.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Egypt Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Haralson officiating. Burial will be at Egypt cemetery in Blue Ball. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home in Danville.
Pallbearers are Dustin Hall, Chris Hall, Aaron Hall, Shane Millard, James Mitchell and Robert Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers are Agnes Mitchell, Kent Dennis, Ed David, Tuff Dixon, Bart Heard, Randall Havner and Tracy Pool.
Arrangements are by Cornwell Funeral Home in Danville.

Teresa Lynn Cothren
Teresa Lynn Cothren, 61, of Atkins died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at her home. She was born May 28, 1950, in Brazil, Ind., to James and Marie Raab Johnson. Arrangements are currently pending with Lemley Funeral Service in Atkins.

William Hambright
William O. Hambright, 90, of Lamar died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at Countryside Manor Nursing Center. He was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Casa, the son of Walter and Mary Alice Douglas Hambright. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mitchell Hambright; three brothers, Frank Hambright, L.B. Hambright and Wesley Gibson; three sisters, Marie Hoag, Gladys Ellis and Ethel Mae Mitchell; and a great-grandson, Justin.

Donna Uptagrafft
Donna Jean Carmack Uptagrafft, 59, of Russellville died suddenly and unexpectedly at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, of an acute illness. She was born on Oct. 9, 1952, in Huntsville, Ala., to Glenn and Billie Carmack. Donna worked for Winrock International as a senior program officer. She developed and managed large international and domestic projects. She was well loved and highly respected.

Barbara Cossey
Barbara Cossey, 78, of Delaware died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at her home in Delaware. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Assembly of God Church in Delaware. Burial will be in Graves cemetery, Delaware. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at Cornwell Chapel, Dardanelle. A complete obituary will be published in Tuesday’s edition of The Courier. Arrangements are by Cornwell Funeral Home, Dardanelle.

Dortha Kinder Kinslow
Dortha Kinder Kinslow, 86, of Caglesville, the widow of Rev. Clyde Kinslow, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at the Russellville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Oct. 23, 1925, at Moreland to James Dewey and Nona Avis Cagle Kinder. She was a math teacher for more than 20 years, teaching in Atkins, Russellville and Dover before retiring in 1985, and a faithful pastor’s wife. In 1943 and 1944, she and her husband moved to Wichita, Kansas.

Lowell Sloan
ATKINS — Lowell Sloan, 94, of Russellville, went to be with the Lord Thursday, October 27, 2011 at his home. He was born May 18, 1917 in Havana the son of S.A. and Lucy Harger Sloan. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He attended the New Beginnings Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jewell Sloan; sister, Vida Hamilton; son-in-law, Royce Laseter; daughter, Clara Mae Scheppmann; and son, Lowell Mason Sloan, Jr.
He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Laseter of Russellville and Connie Willis and husband Marvin of Cleveland, TN; 8 grandchildren, Carey Hilburn Jr., Rebecca Cooper, Karen Brodin, Jamie Hilburn, Marvin Willis, Pamela Bock, Kevin Willis and Darin Willis; 15 great-grandchildren, Andrea Hilburn, Olivia Hilburn, Emma Cooper, Sara Shirley, Briana Roeck, Bradley Brodin, Mya Wornick, Trent Wornick, Janessa Willis, Macy Hays, Connie Willis, Ben Bock, Molly Bock, Westin Willis and Nolan Willis; sister, Stella Sloan Forrester Able; and a nephew and two nieces, Gene Forrester, Sr., Marie Forrester Almond and Bettye Joe Smith.
Funeral services are 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 1 at Lemley Chapel with Rev. Robert O’Bryant officiating. Burial is in Pisgah cemetery by Lemley Funeral of Atkins. Visitation is from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday at Lemley Chapel.
