Helen E. Jones
Helen E. Jones, 71, of Bella Vista, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Bates Medical Center in Bentonville. She was born Feb. 4, 1929, in Coon Rapids, Iowa, to Otis and Hazel Hufferd.
She married
Wayne Jones on May 10, 1946, in Glidden, Iowa. The couple farmed in Iowa for a number of years, then ran a boarding house in Savannah, Mo.
They later moved to Bella Vista. After the death of her husband, Wayne Jones, she worked for Wal-Mart.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, three sisters and a brother.
Survivors include nine nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Bella Vista Baptist Church.

John M. Mahan
John M. Mahan, 92, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, in Springdale. He was born Sept. 24, 1908, in Fayetteville to Charles Jackson and Mary E. Warren Mahan.
He worked as a foreman for the Washington County Road Department for 25 years. He was also a farmer.
Survivors include a daughter, Madge Kinsey of Fayetteville; two sons, Bill Mahan of Fayetteville and James K. Mahan of Bella Vista; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Gravesides funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Oakland cemetery in Fayetteville with Paul Eden officiating.
Arrangements are by Nelson 's Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
Helen Bushacher Mills
Helen Bushacher Mills, 84, of Fair Oaks, Calif., and formerly of Bella Vista, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, in Fair Oaks. She was born March 25, 1916, in Topeka, Kan., to Oscar L. and Mary Ward Bushacher.
She was a graduate of Topeka High School and Washburn University in Topeka, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority and the Nonoso Society. She married
Charles P. Mills on March 5, 1937.
She lived in Topeka until 1989, when she moved to Bella Vista. She moved to Fair Oaks in 1998 to be near her family.
She had been a member of First United Methodist Church of Topeka, where she sang in the church choir.
She was active in the P.E.O. sisterhood and was a member of Chapter DF in Topeka, Chapter BO in Bella Vista and Chapter LD in Sacramento, Calif.
She was a member of Three Arts Club, Minerva Club and Shawnee Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles P. Mills, on Aug. 3, 1988.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Schmitt of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Marty Shepherd of Fair Oaks; a son, Mark Mills of Gardnerville, Nev.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was at noon, Friday, Feb. 9, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel in Topeka. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Mount Hope Chapel in Topeka. Entombment was at the Mount Hope mausoleum.

Lawrence Theodore Moellers
Lawrence Theodore Moellers, 92, of Bella Vista, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at Bates Medical Center in Bentonville. He was born April 24, 1908, in Festina, Iowa, to August and Catherine Moellers.
He married
Geneva McCormick in 1943 in Minneapolis, Minn. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1932 and ended his career in 1954, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.
He worked as a government inspector until 1975, then worked for Hardware Hank 's until he and his wife moved to Bella Vista in 1987. He was a Crime Watch member for 10 years in Bella Vista.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Moellers, in 1998.
Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory, with Rosary said at 7 p.m. Burial was at Crystal Lake cemetery in Minneapolis, with arrangements by Crystal Lake Funeral Home of Minneapolis.
Benita Mossman Shields
Benita Mossman Shields, 91, of Bella Vista, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Concordia Care Center. She was born March 31, 1908, in Winfield, Kan., to Dr. Frank E. and Zoa Foster Mossman.
She graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1928, and was granted a master of arts degree in concert violin and musicology from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., in 1934.
She taught music in public schools in Kansas and Oklahoma, and at Morningside College. During World War II, she served in the American Red Cross as a program planner and director in Ceylon and Agra, India.
Following the war, she married
Frederick Shields of Spokane, Wash. The couple later divorced.
For many years, she was associated with Columbia Artists and Civic Music in New York City, traveling in New England and Canada. She retired to Greensboro, N.C. In 1994, she moved to Bella Vista.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dr. Mereb E. Mossman; a brother, Hobart F. Mossman; and a nephew, Stuart L. Mossman.
Survivors include a brother, Dr. Frank H. Mossman of Upland, Calif.; three nieces, Martha Smither of Dallas, Texas, Linda Gibson of Upland and Helen Battista of Memphis, Tenn.; and two grand-nieces.
Visitation was from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville. Private graveside funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at Hiland cemetery in Winfield, Kan., with arrangements by Swisher-Taylor-Morris Funeral Home of Winfield.
Local arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Service of Bentonville.
Leota Swindell
Leota Swindell, 82, of Rogers, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at her home. She was born May 16, 1918, in Bentonville, to Edgar Frank and Minnie Viola Perry Mason
She married
Condrey Swindell on June 16, 1940, in Pineville, Mo., and they lived in the Hiwasse area. She was a member of Hiwasse Home Extension Club, Temple Baptist Church of Rogers and the Mount Pleasant cemetery Association, serving as treasurer. She enjoyed quilting and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Condrey Swindell, in February 1999; a brother; and two sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Benny Swindell of Centerton and Dr. William Swindell of Rogers; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church of Hiwasse with the Rev. Ron Fields and the Rev. J.N. Farish officiating. Burial was at Mount Pleasant cemetery near Hiwasse.

Lyla Lea Turner
Lyla Lea Turner, 70, of Gravette, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at her home. She was born July 11, 1930, in Pampa, Texas, to Orville and Bertie Rogers.
She and her husband, Leland, moved to Gravette 23 years ago from Chicago, Ill. She was a lifelong member of First Church of Christ Scientist.
She traveled with her husband, who was in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years, and taught school in various areas. She graduated from Kansas State University at Manhattan and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.
She was the owner of Leland Gallery in Rogers, and enjoyed collecting art from around the world.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Turner, in 1976.
Survivors include her husband, Leland 'Lee ' Turner; a son, Michael Turner of Cambridge, Mass.; two daughters, Linda Egoshi of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Kathy Turner of Bentonville; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Bella Vista Funeral Home chapel in Bella Vista.

Verbie Juanita C. Valentine
Verbie Juanita C. Valentine, 81, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001. She was born in Calera, Ala. Formerly of Russell, Kan., and Bella Vista, Ark., she had recently relocated to Naples, Fla.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Maurice Valentine of Naples; sons, Gene (Mary) Valentine of Naples, Ken (Judy) Valentine of Douglass, Kan., and Lee (Janet) Valentine of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law Vivian Cole of Troy, Ala.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Bethel Baptist Church in Bentonville.

Ruth Van Every
Ruth Van Every, 85, of Rogers, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at a local nursing home. She was born Feb. 9, 1915, in Wardlaw, Ark. (now Bella Vista), to Charles Clarence and Mary Ellen McCool Wardlaw.
She married
Loy Van Every in 1941. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Rogers Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening and quilting.
Survivors include her husband, Loy Van Every; a son and daughter-in-law, Leslie Jack and Sharon Van Every of Norman, Okla.; two brothers, W.J. Wardlaw of Stella, Mo., and Ronnie Wardlaw of Pineville, Mo.; several nephews, nieces, great- and great-great-nephews and nieces.
Visitation was from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Wardlaw cemetery near Brightwater with elder George Panter officiating and music by Emily Combs.

Norman E. Welch
Norman E. Welch, 70, of Decatur, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born May 28, 1930, in Jackson County, Ark., to Raleigh and Alice Toddy Welch.
He had been a northwest Arkansas resident for 18 years, moving from California. He was a Korean War veteran.
He retired as a hatchery foreman from Peterson Industries in Decatur. He was a member of Colcord (Okla.) Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Clinton Welch of Bella Vista and Fabian Welch of Bentonville; a daughter, Anita Cordeiro of Gravette; two brothers, John Welch of Michigan and Jerry Welch of South Carolina; two sisters, Alice Joy Welch of South Carolina and Linda Welch of California; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs. Graveside funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday at the National cemetery in Fayetteville with the Rev. Hurley Holcomb officiating.
