Jerome R. Follas Jerome R. Follas, 79, of Bella Vista, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Sylvania, Ohio, to D.C. and Ethel Spillane Follas. He married Shirley Pearl Sloane of Davenport, Iowa, in 1945. He was a graduate of the former Burnham High School in Sylvania, and attended DeSalle College before joining the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After military service, he attended Ohio State University to get a degree in architecture. He worked as an architect in firms in Iowa and Nebraska. He was recalled into the military during the Korean War to do air surveillance in the South China Seas and Kodiak, Alaska. He later worked as a flight inspector with the Federal Aviation Administration in Hawaii, Europe, various NATO countries, New York and Kansas City. He retired in 1979. He then worked for the Saudi Arabian government, helping build its airline and airports. He retired to Arkansas in 1983. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John "Jack," Joseph and James; and two sisters, Gertrude and Sister Mary Amata. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Pearl Sloane Follas; three sons, Terrance Follas of Blue Springs, Mo., Thomas Follas of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Theadore Follas of Poway, Calif.; a brother, J.D. Follas of Iowa City, Iowa; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, with Rosary service at 7 p.m. at Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, in St. Bernard Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Joseph Enderlin officiating. Burial will be at Bella Vista cemetery with military honors by Bella Vista Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9063. Memorials may be made to the Naval Aviation Foundation Museum in Pensacola, Fla.; or to the Sisters of St. Francis in Sylvania, Ohio. Clarence 'Ed' Galloway Clarence "Ed" Galloway, 78, of Bella Vista, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at his home. He was born Oct. 24, 1922, in Geary, Okla., to Charles Edwin and Nancy Ruth Baker Galloway. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He worked for Rockwell McDonald Douglas from 1952 until 1980. He and his wife, Mary, moved to Bella Vista in April 1980 from Tulsa, Okla. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and American Legion Post 341, a lifetime member of Bella Vista Sportsmen's Club and a 32nd degree Mason. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Galloway; a brother, James B. O'Connor of Dover, Del.; a sister, Thersea McCracken of Mason, S.D.; several nieces and nephews. Visitation was from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Bella Vista Assembly of God. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Bella Vista Assembly of God with the Rev. Jack Glass officiating. Burial was at Bella Vista cemetery, with arrangements by Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Frances 'Fritz' Gill Frances "Fritz" Gill, 79, of Bella Vista, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. She was born March 11, 1922, in Zeigler, Ill., to John and Martha Repsis. She and her husband, James "Jim" Gill, moved to Bella Vista three years ago from Oak Lawn, Ill. She was a member of St. Gerald's Catholic Church of Oak Lawn, where she was active in the Mothers Club, and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a Cub Scout den mother and volunteered for various groups, clubs and charities. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, James "Jim" Gill; four sons, James J. Gill of Rosselle, Ill., Danial E. Gill of Fort Meyers, Fla., Thomas P. Gill of Libertyville, Ill., and Kenneth O. Gill of Bella Vista; and seven grandchildren. Visitation was from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation was held and Rosary said at Zimmerman and Sandeman Funeral Home of Oak Lawn. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Gerald's Catholic Church of Oak Lawn, Ill. Ernest LaVel Hanson Ernest LaVel Hanson, 81, of Belgrade, Minn., and Bella Vista, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Koronis Manor in Paynesville, Minn. He was born Jan. 22, 1920, in Canton S.D., to Elmer and Petra Peterson Hanson. He was baptized June 6, 1920, and confirmed as a Christian on May 20, 1934. He grew up near Canton, S.D., where he attended a country grade school and graduated from Canton High School in 1937. He married Leona Lawrence on Aug. 9, 1942, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., while he was in the U.S. Army. He served in the infantry division in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. After his discharge in January 1946, he and his wife farmed in Harrisburg, S.D. In 1955, he and his family moved to a farm near Belgrade. He worked as a psychiatric technician at the State Hospital in Willmar, Minn., for 17 years. He retired in 1982 and spent winters in Bella Vista the past 17 years. He was a member of Crow River Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade, where he sang with the men's chorus and served as treasurer on the church board. He also served on the Colfax Township Board and volunteered as a 4-H leader. He was a foster parent, caring for 23 children from 1963 to 1977. He was a member of Bonanza Stars Square Dance Club and Belgrade Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he had served as commander. He was preceded in death by a son, David Hanson, in 1971; and a brother. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Leona Hanson; two daughters, Jan Jiudice of Golden Valley, Minn., and Deb Klaassen of Willmar, Minn.; a son, John Hanson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister, Bernice Pike of San Lorenzo, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at Crow River Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade. Burial was at Crow River Lutheran Church cemetery. George Edward Harvey George Edward Harvey, 75, of Bella Vista, and formerly of Little York, died Saturday evening, June 16, 2001, at Bates Medical Center in Bentonville. He was born Sept. 3, 1925, in Warren County, Ill., to James and Pearl Young Harvey. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1944. He married Mary Godown on April 14, 1956, at Oquawka, Ill. He received a bachelor of arts degree in education in 1957, and a master of arts in 1964, both from Western Illinois University at Macomb. He coached and taught in Aledo, Ill., and New Boston, Ill., for several years, then moved to Muscatine, Iowa, in 1961, where he was an elementary school principal until retiring in 1981. He and his wife moved to Bella Vista in 1984, where he was a broker and part owner of Century 21 Ye Ole Realty for 10 years. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, and was a Mason for 42 years. He enjoyed all sports, especially golf, and working with youth. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mary Harvey of Bella Vista; two sisters, Marjorie Martin of Davenport, Iowa, and Mary Lawrence Anderson of Keithsburg, Ill.; several nieces and nephews. Visitation was from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel in Monmouth, Ill. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mark Schleeter of the First United Methodist Church of Monmouth officiating. Dorothy Alice Powers Dorothy Alice Powers, 83, of Rogers, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Beverly Health Care in Rogers. She was born March 25, 1918, in Kansas City, Mo., to Samuel F. and Alice Geruearers Lyon. She moved to the Rogers area 25 years ago from Kansas City, Mo. She was a Methodist. She enjoyed quilting, music and Indian folklore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred R. Powers, on March 19, 2001. Survivors include two sons, Chuck Powers of Rogers and Larry R. Powers of Bakersfield, Calif.; a daughter, Aileen E. Roether of Bakersfield; three brothers, Otis R. "Bud" Lyon of Belton, Mo., S. Robert Lyon of North Little Rock and David E. Lyon of Independence, Mo.; and a grandson. No local services are planned at this time. Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory. Stacey Lynn Taylor Stacey Lynn Taylor, 35, of Cave Springs, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at her home in Cave Springs. She was born Jan. 20, 1966, in Kansas City, Kan., to Roy and Wanda Martin Renfrow. She moved to northwest Arkansas in 1983, coming from Freeman, Mo. She played drums in the Pea Ridge Junior High Band and attended Pea Ridge High School in Pea Ridge. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Rogers, and was active in the bus ministry where she was known as "the cookie lady." Recently, she attended Shepard Fellowship Church in Bentonville. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents. Survivors include a son, Nathan "Nate" Taylor of Garfield; her parents, Roy and Wanda Renfrow of Cave Springs; and four sisters, Shelia Stadler of Fort Smith, Sherry Woodward of Pea Ridge, Sabrina Rodgers of Greenwood, Mo., and Shelly Loy of Rogers. There was no public visitation. Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, at Cave Springs cemetery with the Revs. Ken Stadler and Douglas Raines officiating. Arrangements are by Stockdale Funeral Services of Bentonville. Bernice Thorseth Bernice Thorseth, 96, of Bella Vista, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. She was born April 22, 1905, in Trondheim, Norway, to Lars and Eli Roen Groseth. She was a former member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hibbing, Minn., and a member of AARP. She moved to Bella Vista from Hibbing in 1992. She was a member of United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Thorseth; three brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by one son, Jay Thorseth of Bella Vista; one grandson, J.C. Thorseth of Cairo, Egypt; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Bella Vista at a later date, with interment in the Park Hill cemetery in Duluth, Minn., at a later date. Willoughby, 75, of Bella Vista, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at his home. He was born Jan. 15, 1926, in Trumann, to John B. and Neva May Willoughby. He moved to Bella Vista in 1997, coming from Atlanta. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Highland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bella Vista. He is survived by his wife, Colleen Willoughby; one daughter, Connie Baker of Trumann; one brother, C.H. "Pete" Willoughby of Ottumwa, Iowa; and one granddaughter, Audrea Baker of Trumann. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at Highland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bella Vista with arrangements by Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory.
