Clinton Rea Downing
Clinton Rea Downing, 87, of Pea Ridge, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at a local health-care facility. He was born Dec. 5, 1915, in Buffalo, Okla., to Clinton and Maude Rea Downing.
He served in the U.S. Navy before World War II and was part of the search team that looked for Amelia Earhart. He retired after 34 years with Continental Airlines, where he supervised aircraft mechanics and painters.
He moved to the area from Oceanside, Calif., in March 2000. He had volunteered at a food bank in Oceanside.
He was a member of Bella Vista Christian Church. He enjoyed restoring automobiles, and was involved with several Hollywood movies.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Margery Downing, in 1977; a brother; and a sister.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Mavis Downing of Pea Ridge, Jerry and Sue Downing of Windsor Locks, Conn.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Kathy Jo Elliott
Kathy Jo Elliott, 49, of Bella Vista, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, in Bella Vista. She was born April 1, 1954, in Redmond, Ore., to Harlan Elliott and Norma DalBianco.
She was raised and educated in California, and later moved to Iowa. She moved to Bella Vista in 2003 from Iowa.
She enjoyed fishing, pets and other animals.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harlan Elliott; a brother, Harlan Elliott; and a son, Brian Elliott.
Survivors include her mother, Norma DalBianco of Bella Vista; a sister, Patsey Elliott of Aberdeen, S.D.; a grandson, Devon Elliott; and two nephews.
No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.
Cynthia Elaine Muniz Garst
Cynthia Elaine Muniz Garst, 37, of Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash., died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, in Spokane, Wash. She was born Oct. 1, 1965, in Denver, Colo., to Paul and Connie Bravo Muniz.
She was a member of the Catholic Church and the Fairchild Air Force Base Officers' Wives Club.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the U.S. Air Force Academy Chapel in Colorado Springs, Colo. Burial was at the Air Force cemetery in Colorado Springs.
Arrangements are by Riplinger Funeral Home of Spokane, Wash.

Floyd J. Herbert Greenley
Floyd J. Herbert Greenley, 95, of Bella Vista, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rogers. He was born July 23, 1908, in Barton, N.D., to Olof C. and Ida M. Halvorson Greenley.
He was raised and educated in the Viking and Warren, Minn., area. He graduated from Warren High School.
He started his career in 1928 with the State Bank of Viking, and retired in 1973 as regional manager in the mortgage department of Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in a Signal Service Battalion.
He married
Alyce Styrlund in 1932. After she died in 1959, he later married
Carol Olson.
He and Carol moved to Bella Vista from Urbandale, Iowa, in 1978. He had been a member of the Gideons since 1935. He was also a member of American Legion, Lions Club and Methodist Men.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alyce; and his sister, Doris Wulff.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry R. Williams and the Rev. Wayne L. Bartruff officiating.

Mars Ellis Jones
Mars Ellis Jones, 86, of Bella Vista, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. He was born June 12, 1917, in Morrilton, to Richard B. and Bessie M. Rockwell Jones.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in Europe, where he received four Bronze Stars. He also served in Korea and retired in May 1962. He was a member of the American Legion for 28 years.
He moved to Bella Vista in October 1997 from Fort Smith. He was a member of Bella Vista Community Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Jones; five brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews, including Neva Harvey of Bella Vista.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory. Graveside funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the National cemetery in Fort Smith, with the Rev. Richard Lindman officiating.

Robert Clay Mankins
He spent the past eight years in Bella Vista, Arkansas. He was operations manager of ChemStation of the Ozarks in Springdale.
He just recently moved to California to start up a new ChemStation of Northern California in Stockton, Ca.
He is survived by his wife, Deanna Mankins; two children, Angela Mankins-Dufour and Chris Mankins; one grandson, Jamison Witcher; two brothers, Gerald Mankins and Charles Mankins; and a sister, Elaine Mittler.
A remembrance gathering will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at 4029 Hancock Drive, Sacramento, Calif. (95821).

Robert 'Bob' Noah
Robert Eugene "Bob" Noah, 74, of Bentonville, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at his home. He was born March 28, 1929, in Wichita, Kan., to William and Loretta Kansier Noah.
He and his wife, Peggy, moved to Bentonville in 1990 from Omaha, Neb. He retired from the U.S. Air Force and the Nebraska state Department of Labor.
He also worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in Omaha, was coordinator for Disabled American Veterans Transportation at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha, and volunteered at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was also an instructor for AARP 55-Alive classes in Benton County.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Noah, who died May 17, 2003; one daughter, Nancy Scott, who died Dec. 16, 2002; and one brother, Jack.
He is survived by five daughters and two sons-in-law, Margaret and Mike McCall of Papillion, Neb., Shirley and Michael Carlson of Omaha, Theresa Noah of Ralston, Neb., Roberta Noah of Ralston and Susan Vasquez of Dodge City, Kan.; one son-in-law, Randal Scott of Omaha; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers with the Revs. Jane Mar and Erik Boye officiating. Military honors were performed by the Rogers American Legion Post 100.
Burial was in Westlawn-Hillcrest cemetery in Omaha.

Clifford 'Cliff' L. Schroeder
Clifford "Cliff" L. Schroeder, 77, of Bella Vista, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at his home. He was born April 21, 1926, in Headrick, Okla., to Gustav and Gertrude Van Cleave Schroeder.
He was raised and educated in Headrick. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He attended the University of Oklahoma and the Aviation Academy in Oklahoma City. He was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Richmond.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Schroeder; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bradley and Denise Schroeder of Wichita, Kan., and Christopher Lane Schroeder of Tyler, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Doug Friesen of Rogers; a brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Jean Schroeder of Ardmore, Okla.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista with the Rev. James E. Still and the Rev. Tracy Evans officiating. Burial was at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 at Hill City cemetery in Hill City, Kan.

Jessie Jewell Singleton
Jessie Jewell Singleton, 72, of Bentonville, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rogers. He was born May 14, 1931, in Healing Springs, to George and Goldie Asher Singleton.
He was a member of Bentonville Freewill Baptist Church, and had worked for the Sunkist Co. in California for many years. He served in the U.S. Army, and was a prisoner of war in the Korean War.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, playing and singing gospel music.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Singleton; and two brothers, Burel Singleton and Lee Roy Singleton.
Visitation was from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Memorial Funeral Home of Springdale, with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Bentonville Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Ellis Doyle and the Rev. Anthony Lane officiating. Burial was at Douglas cemetery in Highfill, with military honors provided by the Northwest Arkansas Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Greg Singleton, Gary Penny, Dennis Singleton, Stanley Penny, Jimmy Singleton and Terry Singleton. Honorary pallbearers were J.D. Singleton, Clay Galbavi, Roger Jones and Ty Yell.
Robert Joseph Turek
Robert Joseph Turek, 82, of Bella Vista, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. He was born Jan. 30, 1921, in New Prague, Minn., to Joseph J. and Mary Ann Budin Turek.
He graduated from Bethlehem Academy in Faribault, Minn., and St. John's University in Collegeville, Minn., majoring in economics and English. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He attended Officer's Training School at the University of Notre Dame and Northwestern University. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific war zones on an Eagle boat and destroyer escorts until 1946.
After being discharged from the service, he married
Shirley Weber on March 2, 1946. He was affiliated with Northern Trust Co. in Chicago for 37 years, and earned a master of business administration degree at the University of Chicago during that time.
He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Betterment Committee, and served on several Bella Vista Property Owners Association committees.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Turek; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Neu of Racine, Wis., Ann and Jack Bertch of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. and Lynn Turek of Adrian, Mich.; two brothers, Arthur Turek of Winterhaven, Fla., and Richard Turek of Bay Village, Ohio; four grandchildren, Katy Bertch Page, Christopher Bertch, Ashley Turek and Bradley Turek; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory, with a rosary said at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at St. Bernard Catholic Church of Bella Vista with the Rev. Father Joseph J. Enderlin officiating.
