Mavis Sturch Story
Mavis Sturch Story, 81, of Little Rock, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008. She was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Hazen, Ark., the daughter of Adrin D. and Joyce E. Minton Sturch. She retired from Rebsamen Insurance, a member of the Eastern Star, member and past president of the Business andProfessional Women’s Club. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her children, Linda Kay Chandler of Seattle, Wash., David Montgomery of Mahomet, Ill., and Beverly Guinee of Little Rock; grandchildren, Elizabeth Weintraub, Emily Chandler, Ryan Guinee, Anna Guinee, John Newman and Adrin Montgomery; and three great-grandchildren.
Ms. Story was preceded in death by her parents, Adrin D. Sturch and Joyce E. Minton-Latner; brothers, Leon Sturch, Calvin Sturch and Billy Sturch; and her beloved son, Stephen B. Newman, Jr.
Services were held on Monday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct., (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock, officiated by Rev. Pamela Morgan, followed by interment in Forest Hills Memorial Park in Alexander. Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, (501)224-2200.

Charles A. Huffer
Charles A. Huffer of Tontitown died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at the age of 70, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Hazen, Ark., on Sept. 28, 1938, to the late Lloyd and Dora Grace (Toll) Huffer.
He was educated in both Hazen and England schools graduating from England High School in 1956. He attended Arkansas State College in Jonesboro on a music scholarship (1956-1959) where he played solo clarinet in the college band and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. While in Jonesboro, Charles joined the Arkansas National Guard. The school year of 1959-1960 was spent in Oberlin, Ohio, attending Oberlin College.
Charles then joined the U.S. Army in order to become a member of the Army Security Agency and attended the Army Language School at the Presidio of Monterey, Calif., receiving his diploma in German in June 1961. He was transferred to Berlin where he served in the 78th USASA Special Operations Unit. His time in the 78th in Berlin from July 22, 1961, to Aug. 3, 1963, was regarded by Charles as the finest years of his life. While serving in the 78th he attended the Berlin Freie Universitalt in the summer of 1963.
Upon completion of his duty in Berlin, Charles returned to Arkansas and attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville (1963-1964) and was awarded a B.A. Degree in Mathematics. He taught high school math in Plattsburg, Mo. (1964-1965). He then returned to the University of Arkansas as a graduate assistant and obtained a M.S. in Mathematics. Charles taught one year at Northwestern State College in Alva, Okla. In 1968 he returned to Berlin and obtained a math teaching position at the Berlin American High School, a U.S. Department of Defense School. While in Germany, he was accepted as a member of American Mensa Limited and retained membership for several years. Charles was primarily the principal clarinetist in both the Britzer Blas-Orchester and the Berliner Arzte Orchestra. He remained in Berlin 19 years before returning to the United States, where he settled in Northwest Arkansas.
Charles had a variety of interests, including reading, research, and amateur radio, where he held an Amateur Extra License (call sign NY2X). He was a member of MUFON (Mutual UFO network) and was for many years State Section Director of Northwest Arkansas. Charles did extensive research on his army unit, contacting and interviewing witnesses concerning the history of the U.S. Army in Berlin. This research was carried out on behalf of the Allied Museum in Berlin. His latest research has been on the life of screen star Irene Dunne; however, death prevented him from completing this research.
Charles is survived by his sister, Kay Price and husband, Roger of Conway; brother Bill Huffer of Tennessee, and his long-time girlfriend, Ute Hoefig of Berlin, Germany. He leaves behind four special aunts, Lynne Toll of Tollville, Maxine Toll of Minco, Okla., Martha Huffer of Hazen and Joyce Huffer of Hot Springs; nieces, Jodi Kennedy of Australia and Mona ElGomayel of Atlanta, Georgia; one nephew, Brad Huffer of Lonoke and many cousins, friends and former students.
A private family burial with military honors was held on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at the Carlisle cemetery in Carlisle, Ark.
Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.

Goldie H. (Parker) Mason
Goldie H. (Parker) Mason of Biscoe, Ark., passed away on January 2, 2009. She was born on January 28, 1912, one of five daughters to the late Benjamin and Judy (Prince) Parker of Center Ridge, Arkansas.
Goldie was married to the late Harry C. Mason Sr. in January of 1931. They were married for 71 years. She was a retired self-employed business woman in Biscoe. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Biscoe and loved to hunt, fish and work in her flowers. Her sons remember her as a very loving and caring mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry C. Mason Sr.; four sisters: Cyretha Bradley of Venice, CA and Princess A. Summers, Syrena P. Green and Creta Smith, all of Biscoe. Survivors also include two sons, Harry C. (Patsy) Mason Jr. and Billy Dick Mason of Biscoe. Grandchildren: Tammy (Phillip) Nail of Biscoe and Archie (Angie) Mason of Jonesboro and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral was held at First Baptist Church, Biscoe at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2009, with Archie Mason presiding. Pallbearers included Tyler Mason, Taylor Mason, Phillip Nail, Eric Nail, Terry Singleterry and Rex Williams. Honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Goldie’s Sunday School class. Interment followed the Sunday service at Biscoe cemetery.

Hazel Lucille Crouch
Hazel Lucille Crouch, 86, of Des Arc died Friday. Survivors include five daughters; five sons; 30 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were 2 p.m. Thursday at Lakeside cemetery by Garth Funeral Home.

Asa Ray Whittenburg
Asa Ray Whittenburg, age 42 of Lonoke, died at his home on Dec. 31, 2008. He was born in Brinkley, Arkansas on February 13, 1966, the son of Jaman and Patricia Treadway Whittenburg.
He is survived by his wife, Christy Whittenburg; daughter, Jessica Russell; son, Michael Whittenburg; sisters, Maurisa Whittenburg and Rachel White; brother, Phineas Whittenburg and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday Jan. 3, 2009 at Greenwood Baptist Church near Butlerville. Burial was in the Walters Chapel cemetery. Pallbearers were Chuck Walters, Randy Tucker, Rusty Tucker, Leander Red, Scotty Russell and John Nolen. Honorary pallbearers were Chad Sullivan, Lynn Carpenter, Cole Toone and Travis White.
Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen.

Lona Mae Good
Lona Mae Good, 68, died January 22, 2009. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 31, 2009, at Prairie Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 411 North Washington Street in Hazen, Ark. Funeral services entrusted to Richardson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 South College Street, Stuttgart, Ark. 870-672-8901.

Jonas Sidney Sparks
Jonas Sidney Sparks, 99, of Raleigh, TN, retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Company after 35 years, died January 26, 2009 in Murfreesboro, TN. Services were held at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel January 28. Burial was in Memphis Memory Gardens,
Mr. Sparks was a 33rd Degree Mason and past Master of Bartlett Masonic Lodge. He was a deacon at Raleigh Baptist Church. He and his wife, Nina, were volunteers at the Lewis Senior Citizens Center for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Sparks.
He leaves two daughters, Addie Sue Webb of Murfreesboro and Nina Jane Manley of Oakland; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorials may be sent to the Union Missions.

Ray Whitcomb
Ray Whitcomb, 58, of Sheridan, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009. He was a master plumber for Richardson Plumbing Company, former owner/operator of Ray Whitcomb Plumbing and plumbing code teacher at Pulaski Tech. Ray was a former member of the Little Rock Executive Association. Ray was a cowboy at heart, who loved his horses, deer hunting and spending time with his wife in their dream home.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Watkins) Whitcomb; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Amy Whitcomb of Benton; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Shane Stoops of Ico; step-son, Blake Rogers of Sherwood; step-daughter, Stephanie Rogers of Jacksonville; three brothers, Bill Whitcomb of North Little Rock, Donald Whitcomb (Doris) of DeValls Bluff and John Whitcomb of DeValls Bluff; three sisters, Faye Ellis (Dave) of Center Ridge, Macie O’Dwyer (Sean) of Milbridge, Maine and Debby Ellis of Little Rock; seven grandchildren, Hope, Sarah, Colton, Trye, Courtney, Johnathan and Paige; and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at North Little Rock Funeral Home. Burial was at 12:00 p.m. in Oakland cemetery, DeValls Bluff. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main, 758-1170.

Ronald Eugene Benson
September 13, 1934 - June 9, 2013
Ronald Eugene Benson passed away in Jacksonville, Arkansas on June 9, 2013 at the age of 78.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Benson.
Ronald Benson is survived by sons Curtis E. Benson, Rural Sweet Springs, MO and Keith P. Benson, Jacksonville, AR, and daughter, Dr. Ronda Benson Ford, Chattanooga, TN.
Ronald is lovingly remembered by sisters Dorothy Peterson of Marshall Town, Iowa, and Mary Kunkel from Davenport, Iowa, three grand children, Eric Benson of Concordia, MO, Kendra Benson Parente of Brooklyn, NY, and Nathan Benson of Concordia, MO, the great grand children, Kaleigh Benson and Garrett Benson of Concordia, MO, and several nieces and nephews.
Ronald Benson was born in Marshall Town, Iowa on September 13, 1934.
He served in the United States Air Force, served in the Vietnam War and he retired in 1974 as a Master Sergeant. He also worked for the Pulaski County School District for 15 years. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed Country and Western Music and dancing.
The visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3802 N. Olive Street, in North Little Rock, AR at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2013 with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Jacksonville.
A luncheon will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 13 following the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church and the Arkansas Hospice Foundation, 14 Parkstone Circle, North Little Rock, AR 72116.

Elizabeth Melton
Elizabeth Melton, age 88, born March 25, 1920 died January 28, 2009. She was a retired Major of the US Army Nurse Corp with 20 years service. She was veteran of WWII and Korea. She resided in Carlisle where she was an accountant with Smith/Melton accounting firm. She enjoyed her hobby as a woodcrafter, was a member of the craft guild, and participated in many art shows. Survivors include four great nieces, one great-nephew, their families, and adopted family, Bill and Bonnie Ferguson family of Carlisle. Graveside Services with full military honors were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 31 at Macedonia cemetery, Holly Grove. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.

Theodore Washington
Theodore “Buddy” Washington, 98, of Carlisle, Ark., departed this life Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009. He is survived by two sons, Emanuel (Jeanette) Washington, Rev. Oscar (Alma) Washington; two daughters, Sarah Cleveland of Pittsburgh, Pa., Shirley (Richard) Lindsey of North Little Rock, Ark. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Carlisle, Ark. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 from 1 till 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Services entrusted to Premier Funeral Home 1518 S. Battery St. Little Rock. David Lynn Treece
David Lynn Treece died at his home in DeValls Bluff.
He is survived by his grandmother, Hazel Randleas; sister, Linda Reeves; two uncles, Harold Randleas and Charles Randleas; two nephews, Heath Treece and Chris Treece; and one brother-in-law, Randy Reeves.
Services were Jan. 31, 2009, at Sandhill cemetery.
