LCpl Richard Rees Penny 21, of Fayetteville, Arkansas was killed in action on May 6, 2010, in Afghanistan. He was born August 6, 1988 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the son of Merv and Sharon Easterly Messender.
LCpl Penny’s personal decorations include: The Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Star device, Combat Action Ribbon and Posthumously awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
He is survived by his parents of England (United Kingdom), his maternal grandmother Ann Easterly of Fayetteville, one brother Jon McCard of West Fork, Arkansas and one sister Jennifer Hall of Spain.
Services will be Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Fayetteville National cemetery, with Msgr. David LeSieur officiating under the direction of Beard's Chapel.
A memorial gathering will follow the service Saturday at Greenland High School Cafeteria.
Memorials may be made to the www.uso.org or to www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

Loretta Katherine Ponder

Loretta Katherine Ponder, 73 of Springdale died Monday, July 26, 2010 at her home.
She was born June 19, 1937 in Perrie, South Dakota the daughter of Calle Wakefield and Elsie George Wakefield.
She moved to the area in 1997 from Blythe, CA and was preceded in death by her husband. She was a member of Living Faith Church in Fayetteville.
Survivors include her daughter, Diana Moore of Fayetteville; son, Wayne Ponder of Eucha, OK; 2 brothers, Lewis and Mike Wakefield of Portland, OR; 2 sisters, Judy and husband, Ed Silverman of Phoenix, AZ, Betty Moe of San Jose, CA; sister-in-law, Joyce Ponder of Fayetteville; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 41 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 PM, Friday at Living Faith Church in Fayetteville with Dr. Buell Curtis officiating. Private burial will be at Combs Chapel cemetery under the direction of Beard's Chapel.
The family will receive friends at Living Faith Church on Friday from 12PM till service time.
Private burial will be in Combs Chapel cemetery.

Glen Riggins

Glen Riggins, 77, of Fayetteville died Tuesday August 17, 2010 in Fayetteville. He was born August 1, 1933 in Asher, Arkansas the son of Noah Daniel and Ollie Ledford Riggins.
He was a member of the Round Mountain Community Church for 55 years, where he served as Sunday School Teacher, deacon and Church Secretary and Treasurer.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He served as Chief of Police for Fayetteville Police Department and also served in Judge William Storey’s Court Room as Court Service Officer.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie McCawley Riggins of the home, to whom he married , Dec. 2, 1956; his son, Dale Riggins and wife, Yolanda of Fayetteville; his daughter, Becky Carter and husband, Larry of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Jennifer Minard and husband Brandon, Amber Mobbs and husband, T.J., Kari Cantrell and husband, Mark and Alyson Carter along with 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday at the Round Mountain Community Church with Rev. Tim Beers officiating. Burial will be in the Round Mountain cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 - 7 P.M. at Beard’s Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Round Mountain Community Church in c/o of Larry and Linda McCawley 2715 Wyman Road Fayetteville, AR 72701.

Wendi Dorothy Cusanelli Rohrich, 39, died in her sleep Sunday, May 2, 2010. She was born August 24, 1970, in Charleston, SC. Wendi was employed by the Her Clinic in Fayetteville and was a member of the Methodist Church.
Wendi is survived by her husband of 12 years, Jacob M. Rohrich III; her mother and step-father, Linda S. and Dr. Merle Allison Johnson; sister, Carrie L. Cusanelli; grandmother, Dorothy Cusanelli; aunt, Carol Jacob; uncles, James Jacob and Fred Cusanelli; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jake and Charlotte Rohrich; brother-in-law, Joshua Rohrich; grandmother, Olga Rohrich; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Hughes; step sisters, Marsha Goings (Mark), Karla Hilburn (Tommy), and Teresa Lemon; nieces, Brittany Goings and Holly Hilburn; and nephew, John Mark Goings. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas K. Cusanelli.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 7, at the Beard Funeral Home in Fayetteville, with Dr. Merle Allison Johnson presiding.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Wendi Rohrich's name to your local Animal Shelter.

Bobby Ray Romine

Bobby Ray Romine, 69 of West Fork died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at his home. He was born July 25, 1940 in Texas the son of Lonnie Romine and Pauline Yates.
He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Viola Romine of the home; 3 sons, Bobby Romine, Jr. of Troy, MO, Robert Romine of Summers, AR, Lonnie Romine of Pensacola, FL; 3 daughters, Lavinda Reynolds of Pensacola, FL, Rebecca Ann Woods of Pensacola, FL, Glory Romine of Clinton, MO; 3 step-children, Avery Padgett of Brentwood, Rose Beard of Fayetteville, Loretta Ramsfield of Brentwood; brother, James Romine of Mountainburg, AR; 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10AM on Friday till 12PM at Beard's Chapel.
Beard's Chapel to handle cremation arrangements following visitation.

Betty Jean Shipley

INTERMENT: Private at Fayetteville National cemetery
Betty Jean Shipley, 82, of Springdale entered heaven peacefully surrounded by family, following a short but valiant battle with cancer, on Monday, May 24th, 2010 at the Circle of Life Hospice Home in Springdale. Betty Jean was born on October 23, 1928 to Garland and Zealia Burke Pearce in Magnolia, AR.
She is survived by, Daughter Frances Wells, and husband Paul of Springdale, Daughter Janice Hurtado and Joe Hurtado of Aurora, CO, Daughter, Terri Rose and husband Bryan of Springdale, and Son Dan Parrish and wife Cindy of Houston, TX. She is also survived by 14 Grand children, 34 Great Grand Children, and 13 Great-Great Grand Children, many loving nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.
She was the matriarch of the family and our hearts will ache without her sense of humor, wisdom and stubborn nature. She was Mom, Grandma, Gomer, Gram, Mimi, and Mam to all her family. She was a devout Christian, and enjoyed reading the bible and spending time with her daughter Frances in fellowship at their church, Westside Freewill Baptist. She also enjoyed fishing & the outdoors, cooking, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family anytime she could. She was loving and giving and always enjoyed maintaining an open home for anyone that needed a meal or a hug.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John H. Shipley who died 3 years and 17 days prior to her. She had missed him dearly, and we know that he was waiting with open arms and a big kiss for her at the gates of heaven. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Annie Laurie Lumpkins, two brothers, Richard & Levi Pearce. There were also many dear life long friends that were in attendance of her welcoming party in heaven.
Betty Jean was devoted, strong willed and independent woman that loved her children fiercely, and worked very hard to provide for them her entire life. She began her career in the nursing field working for various Dr.’s in Illinois and Arkansas. She also worked as an EMT/Paramedic in Gravette, AR. During the times that she did not work, was spent raising her children, or spending uncountable hours with her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Westside Freewill Baptist in Springdale. The family will receive friends at Beard’s Chapel from 5-7 P.M. on Wednesday. Her final resting place will be along side her late husband at the Fayetteville National cemetery under the direction of Beard’s Chapel.

Kenneth "Pappy" Stanfill

Kenneth 'Pappy' Stanfill, 89, of Springdale died Sunday May 9, 2010 in Fayetteville.
He was born February 4, 1921 in Huntington, AR the son of E.O. and Ethel Parker Stanfill.
He served in the United States Army; worked as a Truck Driver for many years and was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Springdale. He also had served as a deacon, Sunday School Supernatant in different churches over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Gracie Stanfill of the home to whom he married , August 31, 1940; 2-sons, Jerry Stanfill and wife, Phyllis of Springdale and Rick Stanfill and wife, Judy of Fort Smith; 1-daughter, Donna Farris and husband, Bob of Springdale; 2-brothers, Jimmy Joe Stanfill of Fort Smith and Delbert Stanfill of Troy, Ohio; 6-grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at First Assembly of God Church in Springdale with Reverends Bob Fant, Hoyt Ming and Don Nye officiating. Burial will be in Bluff cemetery in Springdale.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 PM - 7 PM at Beard’s Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville.

Valerie Ann Stackhouse

Valerie Ann Stackhouse, 72, of Fayetteville died Friday September 10, 2010 in Fayetteville.
She was born February 15, 1938 in Summit, New Jersey, the daughter of Peter and Veronica Deats McCourt.
She was a retired Insurance Agent for AAA Insurance.
She is survived by her daughter, Diana Lynn Stackhouse of Fayetteville.
A memorial gathering will be from 2-4 PM Sunday September 12, 2010 at Beard’s Funeral Chapel.

Ozzie J. Stewart

Ozzie J. Stewart, 75, of Tulsa, Oklahoma died Friday, August 27, 2010. He was born April 29, 1935 in Korea. He was the son of L.J 'Buster' and Juliann Woods Stewart. He was a retired computer technician.
He is survived by his mother of Elkins, Arkansas, two brothers John and Michael Stewart, one sister Pat Whitmire all of Elkins, Arkansas.
Graveside services will be Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 10:00 AM at McCord cemetery in Elkins, AR. Services are under the direction of Beard’s Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends at Beard's Chapel from 5 to 7PM on Wednesday.

Charles Roe Stokenbury
February 4, 1924 - August 7, 2010

INTERMENT: Hester cemetery
Charles Roe Stokenbury, 86, of Elkins, Arkansas, passed away at his home Saturday August 7, 2010. Charles was born February 4, 1924 in Elkins to Roe Dolph and Anna Oakley Buck Stokenbury.
Charles lived his lifetime in Elkins except for serving in the Army in Italy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a farmer at heart and by vocation, a substitute rural mail carrier, a TV and radio repairman, and a staunch supporter of the Elkins Community Center. He has blessed many lives by his service to others.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bennie Ralph, his parents, three brothers; infant, Lloyd, Norman and Bill.
Survivors include his wife of 62 plus years, Mary Moore Stokenbury; daughter, Ruby and son-in-law, Barry Wells of Rogers, AR. He left a great legacy for his six grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren. His grandchildren are Christopher and Rebekah Wells of Centerville, Utah, Jamie and Casey Loerts of Tahlequah, OK, Rachel and Blair Martin of Madison, Wisconsin, Stacey and Ephraim Sloan of Elkins, AR, Sarah and Tim Skoch of Prairie Grove, AR and Jacob Wells of Milan, Italy. His great-grandchildren are, Matthew, Caleb, and Isaac Wells, Christian Loerts. Olivia Martin, Cora Sloan, Peter and Catherine Skoch plus expected Baby Sloan and Baby Skoch. His living sisters are: Grace Lawson of Springdale, AR, Mary Ann and Doyle Duckett of Ozark, AR and Sonja and Wade Blevins of Elkins, AR; sister-in-law, Ann Stokenbury of Elkins, AR; He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and a host of very good friends. He will be sorely missed.
Graveside Services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Hester cemetery in Fayetteville with Rev. Lynville Eaton officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 - 7 at Beard’s Funeral Chapel.
