Ira Francis Smith

MCCRORY -- Ira Francis Smith, 89, of McCrory died Monday, Dec. 26.

Born at Deere, he was the son of Thomas Frank and Mary Elizabeth Boone Smith.

He is survived by one brother, two sisters, and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services and interment will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Lewis Cemetery in Wynne.

Visitation will be from 1:30-2 p.m. at the cemetery.

Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of Wynne is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Watson

JONESBORO -- Charles Watson of Jonesboro died Dec. 16.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church and worked for the city sanitation department.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Watson, of the home; six sons, Reggie, Anthony, and Marcus Watson, all of Jonesboro, Nick Watson of Fresno, Calif., Charles Watson of Washington, D.C., and Calvin Jackson of Detroit; three daughters, Charlie Galloway of Atlanta, Kimberly Watson of Jonesboro and Michelle Jackson of Columbus, Ohio; eight brothers, Fred Watson of Little Rock, Joe Purdy of Albuquerque, N.M., Chester Watson of Los Angeles, Tommy Watson of Jonesboro, Jimmy Watson of Marked Tree, and Jerome, Stevie, and Bobby Watson, all of Trumann; three sisters, Elizabeth Dunn and Lottie Watson, both of Los Angeles, and Sheila Watson of Jonesboro; and 17 grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Central Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery under direction of Woodard Funeral Service.

Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Neva Catherine Wessner

HARRISBURG -- Neva Catherine Wessner, 85 of Harrisburg departed this life Monday afternoon, Dec. 26, at Skilcare Nursing Center in Jonesboro.

She was born Sept. 30, 1920, at Whitehall, the daughter of Wylie Grant and Mallie Greenwood Grant. She married Clifton Wessner on Feb. 3, 1937, and they enjoyed 62 years together before his passing on June 20, 1999. She retired from Johansen's Shoe Factory after 37 years of service and was a member of Harrisburg First Baptist Church, where she kept the nursery class for 15 years.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Eva Grant and Lucille Baker, and two brothers, Louis Grant and Wiley Grant.

She is survived by two sons, Tommie D. Wessner and Robert D. Wessner, both of Rockford, Ill.; four daughters, Lamar Purington of Rockford, Barbara Jones of Jonesboro, Donna Graves of Harrisburg and Patricia Golden of Ravenden; a brother, Ira Grant of Jonesboro; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Weston Funeral Service Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Captain Lovell officiating. Interment will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may visit at the funeral home tonight from 6-8.

Sherman S. Claude

ST. PETERS, Mo. -- Sherman S. Claude, 96, of St. Peters, Mo., former resident of Randolph County, died Monday.

He is survived by two sons, J.R. Claude of Almont, Ill. and Bill Claude of Port Richey, Fla.; two daughters, Edith Stewart of O'Fallon, Mo., and Freida Finnical of St. Peters; a sister, Lola Lumbardo of St. Louis; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at McNabb Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Janes Cemetery. Visitation is today from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Zelma Pearl Dees

PIGGOTT -- Zelma Pearl Dees, 91, of Piggott passed away Monday, Dec. 26, at Kennett, Mo. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on Nov. 12, 1983.

Her husband, Lloyd Dees, and four daughters preceded her in death.

Survivors include four daughters, Doris Erwin, Mickie Besserman, and JoAnn Oliver, all of Piggott, and Barbara Sutfin of Brookland; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gladys Redman.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Byron Griffey officiating.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Gene Durante

JONESBORO -- Dorothy Gene Jones Durante, age 80, of Jonesboro died in the Stuttgart Regional Medical Center at Stuttgart on Wednesday, Dec. 28. A daughter of the late Andy Jones and Lillian McDaniel Jones, Dorothy was born in Jonesboro on July 16, 1925.

She spent the major part of her life in the Jonesboro area, leaving for a brief time to serve in the Navy. Dorothy was a Catholic and worked over the years as a hairdresser, secretary and a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Vincent Durante of LaJolla, Calif., and one sister, Geraldine Lammers of Holly Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andy and Lillian Jones; her husband, Joseph Durante; and brothers, Odell Jones, Wayne Jones and Howard Jones.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the McDaniel Cemetery in Jonesboro with Danny Collins officiating. Arrangements are by Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home of Clarendon.

Memorials may be given to the Adult Development Center of Benton County, P.O. Box 908, Rogers 72757-0908.

Leon Hudson

BROOKLAND -- Leon Hudson, 81, of Brookland died Saturday at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Taby Hyde

PARAGOULD -- Taby Hyde, 84, of Paragould died Tuesday, Dec. 27, at her residence. She was born May 17, 1921, at Paragould to Harry and Goldie Day.

She retired from General Motors in Detroit and was a lifelong member of Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary R. and Sandra Kingston of Paragould, and Mike and Cyndy Kingston of Altamonte Springs, Fla. She is also survived by one brother, Gerald Day of Paragould; two sisters, Ruth Round of Paragould and Susie Wilmount of Cleveland, Ohio; five grandchildren, David Kingston, Mark Kingston, Stacie Clark, Justin Kingston and Tabatha Pelletier; four great-grandchildren, Lucas Clark, Mahala Kingston, Sklar Norris, and Rylan Pelletier; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Hyde; three brothers, Buck Day, Bill Day, and an infant brother; one sister, Helen Day Orlean; and two infant grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel at Paragould with Michael Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Kingston, Mark Kingston, Justin Kingston, Keith Clark, Jay Dollins and Lucas Clark.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Memorial donations to Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church would be appreciated.

Eddie Lee Martin

HELENA -- Eddie Lee Martin died Saturday, Dec. 24, at Helena Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Tina House, and one daughter, Tammie House.

Visitation is from 1-6 p.m Friday in Jackson-Highley Funeral Home Chapel at West Helena.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Saturday in Springlake Missionary Baptist Church at Southland, with interment following at Springlake Memorial Cemetery.

Pauline Kunkel Poor

SEARCY -- Pauline "Polly" Kunkel Poor, age 81, of Searcy, formerly of Evening Shade and Cuba, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 27, at a Searcy nursing home. She was born Sept. 16, 1924, at Ash Flat to Malford and Vernon Rush Hall.

Graveside services will begin at 3 p.m. Friday in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery at Sidney with Dean Fugett officiating. Arrangements are by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today.

Wilma Sneed

TULLAHOMA, Tenn. -- Wilma Sneed, 79, of Tullahoma, Tenn., died Dec. 27 at Tullahoma. She was born March 12, 1926, in Corning and was united in marriage to Jim Sneed on Nov. 6, 1981.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Marilyn Skeen of Birmingham, Ala.; four stepchildren, Jennifer, John, Rebekah and Charles, all of St. Louis; three grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday in the Ermert Funeral Home at Corning. Services will begin at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Corning Cemetery.
