Virginia Vining

CHEROKEE VILLAGE -- Virginia Vining, 82, of Cherokee Village passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, in Hot Springs.

She was born Dec. 5, 1923, in Nevada, Iowa, daughter of the late Ed and Winnie Sketo Tillotson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Percy Vining; and one daughter, Joy Sanders.

She is survived by two sons, James and John Vining, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel, with burial following in Oaklawn Cemetery at Highland. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time.

Opal Faye Kuhn Wallace

SEARCY -- Opal Faye Kuhn Wallace, 75, died Dec. 27 at her home after a short battle with cancer.

She was born April 7, 1930, at Caraway to Hazel Hamilton Kuhn and Robert Walter Kuhn. In 1954, she married Lambert M. Wallace, who died in 1981. She was a graduate of Southern Baptist (now Williams) College at Walnut Ridge and had done graduate studies at Arkansas State University and the University of Central Arkansas. Mrs. Wallace had resided at Searcy five years, after living in Lincoln County 40 years, where her husband was a Farm Bureau Agency manager. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Prior to the birth of her children, she taught elementary school in Caraway, Wabbaseka and Stuttgart. As a stay-at-home mom, she was active in civil affairs, especially in garden clubs on both the local and state levels. She was known as a devoted, humble and selfless wife, mother and friend.

She is survived by a son, Mack, and his wife Vicki Wallace of Maumelle; two daughters, Madonna and her husband Jeff Smith of Calhoun, Ga.; and Rhonda and her husband Paul Chatham of Stuttgart; four grandsons, Clint Smith and Lambert Smith of Calhoun, and Reed Wallace and Wade Wallace of Maumelle; and two sisters, Eunice Ashabranner of Searcy and Hazel Whistle of Mountain Home.

She was preceded in death by a brother, J.W. Kuhn, and a sister, Martha Clark.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Powell Funeral Home at Searcy with burial at Smyers Cemetery in Aplin. Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today and prior to the service Friday morning.

The family has requested that memorials be made to Southern Christian Home in Morrilton, Harding University or Hospice Home Care.

Anthony Wayne Wooten

LAKE CITY -- Anthony Wayne Wooten, 14-month-old son of Ronald Wayne Wooten and Jennifer Harris of Lake City, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, in Arkansas Children's Hospital at Little Rock.

Other family include grandparents, Dennis and Tonia Grant of Walcott, and Maria Deason and Dale Harris of Lake City; great-grandparents, Gary and Wanda Beaty of Walcott, Mary Harris of Hayti, Mo., and Levana Glynn of Doniphan, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Emerson Chapel at Lake City.

Burial will follow in Cane Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Christian Romeo Cooper

JONESBORO -- Christian Romeo Cooper, infant son of Janis Story of Jonesboro and Chris Cooper of Monroe, Mich., died Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe.

Born Sept. 18, a resident of Jonesboro, he is survived by his parents; three brothers, Randall Jones Barton of Newport, Mich., and Frank and Christopher Cooper of Monroe; two sisters, Larissa and Karina Cooper of Monroe; grandparents, Roman and Kay Holladay of Jonesboro, and Ardith Goins of Monroe; and a great-great-aunt, Jeanette Sharp of Atkins.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery with Joyce Ann Nash officiating.

Memorial services may be made to the Benjamin Project, www.benjaminproject.org, and the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery Fund.

Mavis Evelyn Eaton

PARAGOULD -- Mavis Evelyn Eaton, 62, of Paragould died Thursday in St. Bernard's Medical Center at Jonesboro. She was owner and operator of M & M Upholstery.

She is survived by her son, Carlin Eaton; daughters and son-in-law, Kathy Kemmett and Shirley and Mike Jercinovic, all of Paragould; sisters, Thelma Rogers and Marie Goetz of St. Louis, and Rosa Mullins of Paragould; brothers, Robert Stevens of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Arthur Stevens of Troy, Mo.; grandchildren, Pamela Robinson, Christina Aubuchon, Amanda Jercinovic, Andrew Jercinovic and Donald Kemmett; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Jercinovic and Austin Hollingsworth; and many nieces and nephews.

Mavis is preceded in death by her husband, Travis Eaton; parents, George and Nellie Kissell Stevens; brothers, Luther and Virgil Stevens; and sister, Lucy Morrow.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Marc Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Heath Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Kenny Rogers, Michael Rogers, Curtis Eaton, Christopher Pannells, Jonathon Robinson and Michael Manuel. Honorary pallbearers are Andrew Jercinovic, David Eaton, Cloyce Eaton and Anthony Eaton.

Memorials may be made to The Children's Home of Paragould.

Geraldine Grissom

POCAHONTAS -- Geraldine Grissom, 91, died Thursday in Randolph Home. She is survived by a son, Doug Grissom of Warm Springs; two daughters, Lois Fluke and Glenna Grissom, both of Pocahontas; three brothers, Rector Williams of Pocahontas, and Robert and Eugene Williams, both of St. Louis; two sisters, Lucille Phillips of St. Louis and Betty Kimery of Memphis; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with interment following in Siloam Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at McNabb's.

Carter J. Holm

LYNN -- Carter J. Holm, 88, of Lynn died Friday in White River Medical Center at Batesville.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by House-Gregg Funeral Home of Lynn.

Virginia Lynn Sanders Hood

HOT SPRINGS -- Virginia Lynn Sanders Hood, 73, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, following a brief illness, in Hot Springs on Dec. 29. She was born in Camden on Jan. 13, 1932.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, W. L. Hood; one son, Robert Walter Hood; her parents, Robert and Mary Sanders; brothers, Gordon Sanders and Jack Sanders; and sisters, Sue Sanders Diffie and Bobbie Sanders Buckler.

She is survived by her son, John David Hood and wife Cathy Hood; stepgrandchildren, Chase Fowler and Misty Pickle of Weiner; daughter, Charlotte Hood Ryan and husband Jeff Ryan; and grandson, Robert Chance Ryan of Houston, Texas. Virginia is also survived by her grandsons, Brandon Hood of Conway and Matthew Hood of Bryant. She is also survived by brothers, Bill Sanders and wife Carolyn of Conway, Jerry Sanders and wife Jan of Pickles Gap, and John Sanders and wife Mary Ellen of Camden. Virginia is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends whom she loved dearly.

Virginia graduated from Camden High School and Providence School of Nursing in Mobile, Ala., where she received her R.N. degree. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was an excellent nurse and practiced in Mobile and Dallas, where she specialized in oncology nursing. After moving to Hot Springs Village eight years ago, she continued to serve her community by volunteering at the Charitable Christian Medical Center in Hot Springs, where she touched many lives.

Virginia was a dedicated member of Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church in Hot Springs Village. She was also a member of The Pathfinders. She was a member of the Village Genealogical Society and the Hot Springs Audubon Society. She enjoyed making dolls, sewing, gardening, reading, studying the Bible, cooking, genealogy research, and playing with her beloved dog, Bubba. She had many close friends in The Village who have been a joy during her time there and extremely supportive to her family during her illness.

Her family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the ICU nursing team at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital for their care of Virginia during her last days and also to Dr. Randy Hill and the many specialists and other hospital staff who took such wonderful care of Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing may donate in Virginia's name to the Charitable Christian Medical Clinic, 133 Arbor, Hot Springs 71901, or any charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Proctor Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Camden. Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. today at Proctor Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held in Hot Springs at a later date.

Joann Koons

BIGGERS -- Joann Koons, 64, died at St. Bernard's Medical Center Thursday.

She is survived by her husband, Floyd; two sons, Terry Meridith of Savannah, Ga., and Sammy Meridith of West Memphis; two daughters, Sherry Lansford of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Kelly Gifford of Fort Smith; three brothers, James Moore of Batesville, Larry Moore of Maynard, and Harrace Moore of Beaumont, Texas; two sisters, Martha Carter of Risco, Mo., and Jean Boyle of St. Louis; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home, with Roger Hovis and Loy Culver officiating. Interment will follow in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at McNabb's.

Barry Read

BIGGERS -- Barry Read, 51, of Biggers passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28.

His father, Charles, and two brothers preceded him in death.

Survivors include his mother, Letha Read of Biggers; wife, Tracy Parrish Read of Brighton, Mich.; three children, Raven and Cody of Brighton, and Rocky Hampton and wife Carrie of Reyno; two grandchildren, Allison and Seth; and three sisters, Janice Spruill, Gwen Bradshaw and Cindy Bolen.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hoggard & Sons Chapel at Piggott with Eldon Parrish officiating. Burial will be in the Piggott Cemetery.

Visitation is at 6 p.m. tonight.

Edna F. White

CHEROKEE VILLAGE -- Edna F. White, 85, of Cherokee Village died Friday at White River Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Emma Kolb; her husband, Medford White; and one grandson.

Survivors include daughters, Sheila Vowell and Iris Johnson; one stepdaughter, Rosemary Bradley; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Monday in Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel at Highland. Burial is at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Valhalla Gardens at Belleville, Ill.

Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Sunday.
