Roy Clark Guess
Roy Clark Guess, age 91, of Fairfield Bay, AR, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Indian Rock Village in Fairfield Bay. Born May 22, 1913, in Salem, OH, he was the son of the late Roy C. Guess, Sr. and Ruth Ann Badger Guess.
Mr. Guess came to Arkansas in 1978 from Sarasota, FL. Prior to that, he resided in Canfield, OH, where he was active in church, scouting, and civic projects. He was a past president of the Canfield Rotary Club. Mr. Guess owned and operated several retail and wholesale businesses in OH. He was a member of the Fairfield Bay United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice on April 14, 1995.
He is survived by one sister, Charlotte Peterson of Redlands, CA; one half sister, Wanda Grimm of Alliance, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Interment of remains will be in Woodland Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
Charles Leo Dugger
Charles Leo Dugger, was born January 28, 1917, in Webb City, MO and died January 8, 2005, in Fairfield Bay, AR.
Leo attended Webb City, MO elementary and high schools. He continued his education at Kansas State College in Pittsburg, KS where he was awarded a tennis scholarship and majored in Chemistry. Leo was in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945, and was a Lieutenant JG. He was a Navy pilot and flew over the Aleutian Islands during World War II.
He married
Henrietta Louise Schumell in 1943, and to this union were born two sons, David L. and G.L. (Doug) Dugger. After the war he began working for Phillips Petroleum Company. Henrietta died in 1957.
Leo married
Ruby N. Geurian in 1966, and lived in Overland Park, KS. After he retired from Phillips, they moved to Hide-away Lake, TX, where they combined retirement with their passion for golf. There, Leo was active as a Shriner, driving children who were burn victims to the regional Burn Center and delivering 'Meals on Wheels'. They later moved to Fairfield Bay, AR and continued to enjoy golf. Here, Leo enjoyed his volunteer work with the Humane Society and the Recycling Center.
Leo spent the last eleven months in the Indian Rock Village Nursing Center, fighting liver cancer. His family thanks the IRV staff, his many close friends and his roommate for their never-ending support during his stay. Leo was a very giving man, who enjoyed helping others and was a friend to all. he will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to have met him.
Leo is survived by his wife Ruby N. (Betty) Dugger; sons David Dugger of Westwood, KS, Doug and wife Joyce of Overland Park, KS, and step-son William Gus Geurian and wife Meriam of Peducah, KY; 4 granddaughters; 1 great grandson; 2 great granddaughters; 3 step-granddaughters; and 2 step-grandsons.
Family graveside services were held Tuesday, January 11, at New Hope cemetery, Dardanelle, AR. There was a memorial service on Saturday, January 15, at Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church, Fairfield Bay, AR.

Ollie Mae Shelton
Ollie Mae Shelton, a resident of Fairfield Bay, AR, since 1973, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at Good Samaritan Indian Rock Village at the age of 85.
The daughter of the late James Bethel Scroggin and Ethel (Walker) Scroggin, she was born July 23, 1919, at Kiowa, OK.
Mrs. Shelton was retired from the United States Department of Defense in St. Louis, MO, U.S. Military Records and Administration. She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Fairfield Bay.
Preceded in death by her parents, a son, Gary Alan Shelton, and three brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Don W. Shelton of Fairfield Bay, AR, son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Leah Shelton of Independence, MO, two sisters, Josephine Conley and Dorine DuPree. She is also survived by other relatives and her friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, January 14, 2005, at Woodland Memorial Park Chapel, 4 - 6 P.M., followed with funeral services Saturday, January 15, 2005, at the Fairfield Bay First Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Ronnie Waycaster conducting the service. Interment will be at Miami, OK, in the G.A.R. cemetery Monday, January 17, 2005, at 11:00 A.M.
William Richard Roberts
William Richard Roberts of Fairfield Bay passed away at UAMS on Monday, December 27. He and his wife, Betty were members of the Faith Lutheran Church. He was born to Margaret & Ross on May 15, 1925, in Louisville, KY, and they preceded him in death along with his brother Donald. After graduating from Manuel High School, he was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles, but soon left to serve his country in the Navy as a Tail Gunner pilot. Upon returning, he graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in Juris Doctor and he spent most of his working years as an attorney for the Florida State Insurance Commissioners Office.
He and his loving wife of 54 years, Betty, raised their four children, Marie (Bob) Pett, Donna (Jim) Logan, Jeanette Roberts, and William Jr., while pursuing his favorite pastimes of fishing and golfing. Upon retirement, they moved first to Sylamore on the White River and finally settling in Fairfield Bay in 1994.
Bill is survived by his sisters, Margaret Brown, Jean Ray and Jacqueline Sogaro, his grandchildren, Sara Scanio, Anthony Scanio and Joseph Roberts-Sala and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends, but leaves them with many treasured memories.
Martha L. Kapchinske
Martha L. Kapchinske of Fairfield Bay died January 15, 2005 at her home after a short illness. She had been an Arkansas resident for almost ten years and was a member of Fairfield Bay Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held January 21 in Kankakee, Illinois, where she was born and spent most of her life.
Born October 19, 1916, she was the oldest of the six daughters of William and Emma Stewig. After a brief career in retail and then art, she was married
to Edwin A. Kapchinske on July 8, 1942 in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. She is survived by Edwin (Kap), also of Fairfield Bay and in addition, five sons, four daughters-in-law, ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren who reside in Georgia, Hawaii, Oklahoma and Illinois. While preceded in death by her parents and one sister, four sisters survive, including Marianne Lueth of Fairfield Bay.
Martha was an exceptional artist, accomplished seamstress, and a self-studied nutritionalist that led her to the position of Assistant Supervisor with the Shaklee Corporation. She also served as church pianist, and was a born again Christian with a vast knowledge of the scriptures.

Dr. Glen Edward Minton
Dr. Glen Edward Minton took his final flight Friday, January 21, 2005. He was 83 years young. Glen was born on September 30, 1921, in Hennessey, OK to Harry and Rita Minton, who preceded him in death, along with his first wife Frances Merritt Minton; his sister, Louise Brown; his brother, Charles Minton, and his sister-in-law, Bonnie Minton.
Glen is survived by his wife, Grace and here children: Bruce and Lisa Bynum and their daughter Anna of Riverton, WY; Barbara and Larry Berkley and their children Megan, Kimberly, Justin and Tim of Little Rock, AR; Robert and Carla Bynum and their children Robb, Mikel, Katie and Cayla of Columbia/Sturgeon, MO; Betty and Dale Smith and their children Gretchen and Cooper of Buena Vista, CO. He is also survived by his brothers and their families: Harry and Mary Minton of Canton, TX; Max and Connie Minton of Ft. Worth, TX; Dick and Faye Minton of Mesquite, NV; Haden Minton of Midland, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Glen proudly served his country for five years during WWII in the 397th Bombardment Squadron. He was a B-17 pilot graduating from the 43e Gulf Coast Air Command of the 6th Air Force. He served not only as an instructor of new pilots but as personal pilot for General Jamison in the Canal Zone. He had the honor of flying Commanding Officers of all the Military Academies and the President of Peru. After an honorable discharge, he attended Oklahoma State University and graduated from the University of Missouri Dental School in Kansas City, MO. He established his private practice of 40 years in Richmond, MO.
He had been active in the American Dental Association, the K.C. Dental Association and the Ray-Layfette Dental Society. He was also a member and President of the Richmond Rotary Club; served on the Board of Directors of Shirkey Golf Course; and participated in his 43E Gulf Coast reunions. After retiring to Fairfield Bay, AR in 2000, he joined the Nine Hole Men's Golf Association and the Methodist Church.
Cremation will be with the Olmstead Funeral Home in Heber Springs, AR. A Memorial service will be held in Hennessey, OK at the Corday-Gritz Funeral Home on Saturday, February 12. An endowment has been established at the Central Wyoming College in honor of Dr. Glen E. Minton. Memorials in Glen's name may be made to CWCF Endowment Scholarship Fund, 2660 Peck Ave., Riverton, WY 82501, where the College will donate matching funds in his name.
