Bobbie Boelter
Bobbie Boelter, 74, passed away April 4, 2005 at Johnston Mercy Hospice in suburban Des Moines, Iowa. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
No more beloved woman ever walked this earth than Bobbie Boelter. A faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ, Bobbie was born February 24, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa to Arthur and Vergie Veach. She was the second oldest of seven siblings: William, Bobbie, Melvin, Betty, Wanda, Charles and David.
In 1948, she married
Harlan Red Long. They had three children, Christine, Larry and Linda. In 1964, Red passed away after he was transferred to Minneapolis, Minnesota by Hills Bros. Coffee. Bobbie was left to raise three children on her own.
She secured work at the University of Minnesota in the Law Department. Later at the First Bank Systems, she created a volunteer program for their employees. This program included community paint-a-thons and assisted Hmong refugees. President Reagan recognized her work with volunteers at a White House ceremony on June 10, 1988.
In 1968, she married
Dewey Boelter, a Minneapolis City Planner. On their retirement, the Boelters lived in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas then returned to Des Moines, Iowa. They loved to golf and spend time with their family and grandchildren, Jacob and Lura Rose Long. Bobbie and Dewey were happily married
for 37 years.
In addition to her parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her brothers, Melvin and Charles Veach, and sister Wanda Zemp. She is survived by her husband, Dewey; son Larry (Jacqueline) Long; grandchildren Jacob and Lura Rose Long and Alana Wynne; daughters Chris (Tim) Maloney and Linda Long (Ron Soderholm); brothers Bill (Opal) Veach and David (Mona) Veach; and sister Betty (Dick) O'Neall.

George Pierce Bliss
George Pierce Bliss, age 88, of Shirley, Arkansas, passed away Monday, April 11, 2005, at the Ozark Health Nursing Center in Clinton. Born in Amoret, Missouri, on February 6, 1917, he was the son of the late George Walker and Effie Alice (Pierce) Bliss. A lifetime resident of Van Buren County, Mr. Bliss was a farmer and a retired employee of Fairfield Bay Water Works. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army Air Corps. Mr. Bliss religious belief was Protestant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Cates Bliss, and by four brothers, Perry and Chester Bliss, Charles Coyne, and Hilton Richards; three sisters, Lucy Cates, Marcia Cox, and Mabel Bliss; and one niece, Lilly Cates Harmon.
He is survived by five nieces, Oleeta Goodnight McElroy of Clinton, Helen Blizzard Johnson and Virginia Cates, both of Little Rock, Marcia Girdler of Conway, and Jo Babbitt of Ft. Smith; and four nephews, David Cates and Robert Blizzard, both of Shirley, and Charles Bliss and Harold Bliss, both of Waldron. Mr. Bliss is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 12, from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Olmstead Woodland Chapel. Services will be held Wednesday, April 13, at 2:00 P.M. in the Shirley Community Church. Interment will follow in the Settlement cemetery. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. www.olmstead.com
Ellis Ward, 91 of Shirley, AR went to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at the Ozark Health Medical Center in Clinton, AR. He was born on November 8, 1913 in Bee Branch, AR to Jim and Frances Ward. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Bernice (Evans) Ward, his parents, 10 brothers and sisters, and a beloved son-in-law Willie Linn.
He is survived by his three children: Calla Linn of Shirley; Ronnie Ward and wife Jeane of Commerce, GA; and Glenda Keenihan and husband Rory of Beebe, AR. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was self-employed and was a member of General Baptist Church in Shirley since 1939. He will be missed by all.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton. Rev. Bobby Ward and Rev. Dean May will be officiating the funeral service on Sunday, April 17 at 2 p.m. at the Shirley Community Church. Active pallbearers include grandsons, Joshua Keenihan, Kenny Linn, Scott Linn, Jeff Caudill, Jason Skelton, and great grandson Joseph Linn.
Honorary pallbearers are his nieces and nephews from both sides of his family.

Roy Lee Wood
Roy Lee Wood, age 73, of Shirley, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 14, 2005. Born in White County, Arkansas, on December 24, 1931, he was the son of the late James W. and Ethel (Smith) Wood.
Mr. Wood was a retired inspector for Caterpillar Manufacturing. He served as a military policeman in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Wood was a member of the Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Shirley.
He is survived by his wife, Addie Mae (Johnson) Wood of Shirley; three sons, Larry Duane Wood of Shirley, James Albert Wood of South Pekin, Illinois, and Jason Harold Wood of Columbia, South Carolina; two daughters, Deborah Lee Veach of South Pekin, Illinois, and Doris Jean Zimmerman of Germantown Hills, Illinois; one sister, Velma Rexine Pearce of Toledo, Oregon; one half brother, Charles Stark of Louisiana; one half sister, Mary Woodard of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Wood is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 16, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Olmstead Woodland Chapel in Edgemont. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 17, at 2:00 P.M. in the Maranatha Assembly of God Church with Rev. Lee Brown and Rev. Jim Wooley officiating. Military honors were provided by V.F.W. Post #3543. Interment will follow in the Davis Special cemetery.

Marjorie Marion Thomas Wagner
Marge Wagner left this life on earth Friday, April 15, 2005 at 4:25 p.m. after a six-week battle with cancer. She joins her husband of 58 years, Cliff Wagner, who passed away November 1, 2004, and her family and friends who are waiting for her.
Marjorie Marion Thomas Wagner, the only child of Raymond G. and Margaret Thomas, was born February 4, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from the University of Minnesota where she majored in four languages and received her teaching degree. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi Sorority and a member of the UofM Women's Horseback Riding Club. She taught school (Spanish) in Wisconsin for several years during the school year and was a lifeguard at Wayzata Beach during the summers.
Marge was a star member of the Minneapolis Aquatennia Aqua Follies Aqua Belles and directed the Minneapolis Junior Miss Aqua Follies throughout the 1940s.
She met and married
the love of her life, Cliff Wagner, in 1947 and moved to Wayzata, MN and had two children (twins).
Marge taught her children to swim, water and snow ski, and horseback ride at an early age. She taught many others to swim, ski and ride throughout the 50s, 60s and 70s. She raised, trained and showed horses (along with her children) in Minnesota and the surrounding states. Marge also worked for the Minnesota Animal Rescue League in a traveling pet troupe giving lectures on the handling, care and feeding of various pets including dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, snakes, rats, birds, tarantulas, and hamsters.
Marge was also a member of the ski patrol at Moon Valley Ski Resort in Shakopee, MN. During her spare time she was an often-sought substitute teacher at surrounding schools.
Marge loved the outdoors, sports, animals and teaching. In her later life, she loved to swim, tan, play with her pets, and decorate her home (inside and out) for all holidays. She will be missed by all that knew her.
Marge is survived by her two children: Tom Wagner and wife Barbara of Fairfield Bay, along with their children Jennifer Wagner, Katie Riggs, Erin Born and Tracy Grier; and Suzie Wagner Miller and husband Steve of Big Fork, MT, along with their children Nick and C.W. Miller.
Memorial services will be held April 27 at 2 p.m. at the Fairfield Bay United Methodist Church. Reception to follow at the church.
Rev. Jack William Walker
Rev. Jack William Walker, age 72, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born March 19, 1933 at Rison, Arkansas he was the son of Pauline (Woods) Walker and the late Joe W. Walker.
A former resident of Memphis, Tennessee Rev. Walker had lived in Fairfield Bay since 1997, and he was pastor of the Greers Ferry Presbyterian Church. He retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel with twenty-two years of service as chaplain.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Kay (Callihan) Walker of Fairfield Bay; two sons, Jonathan William Walker and Melvin Jackson Walker; three daughters, Marsha Rawls of Conway, Jackie Farmer of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Jill Thomas of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; his mother, Pauline Walker of Heber Springs; one sister, Anita Oden of Heber Springs; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Rev. Walker is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Ruth Simms Long
Ruth Simms Long, age 92, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at the Ozark Health Medical Center in Clinton, Arkansas. Born in Summet Grove, Indiana, on September 27, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Otis A. and Laura A. (Ballard) Simms.
Mrs. Long was a former resident of Terre Haute, Indiana, where she was employed as a teacher. She graduated from Indiana State University with a major in home economics, and she was a sorority sister. Mrs. Long had been a resident of Fairfield Bay since 1972. She enjoyed sewing, making quilts, and antiquing. She was a member of Questors, the Little Red River Chapter of the DAR, and the Indiana State University Retirement Association. Mrs. Long was an active member of the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church, and she was a former member of the Terre Haute Baptist Church. Her husband, Lester Marvin Long, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Jo Grenda of Jacksonville, Illinois, and Patricia Rae Titus of Orangevale, California; two sisters, Elizabeth H. Simms of Fairfield Bay and Ellen T. Hall of Carbondale, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Diana Ross, Robert Michael Grenda, Debbie Ruth Grenda, Jon Patrick Grenda, Brian Titus, Steven Titus, and Scott Titus; eight great-grandchildren, Lindsey Titus, Brittany DeBennediti, Alec DeBennediti, Jason Ross, Randy Ross, Arwen Linnea Handel, Carolyn Grenda, and Tyler Grenda; and one great-great-grandchild, Abagail Marie Ross. Mrs. Long is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 2, at the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church with funeral services beginning at 11:00 A.M. Dr. Wayne Smith and Rev. Ronnie Waycaster will be officiating. Special music will be provided by Kristie Lester. Interment will follow in Woodland Memorial Park with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Hyram Bankston, "H.B." Slaughter, Jr.
Hyram Bankston, "H.B." Slaughter, Jr., 81, of Fairfield Bay went to be with our Lord on April 26, 2005 after a long illness at Arkansas Hospice in North Little Rock. He was born on September 27, 1923 in Breckenridge, Texas. After graduation, he joined the Navy. After WWII, H.B. returned to Texas to fulfill his dream of being a Texas State Highway Patrolman. During his many years in Texas and later in Malvern, Arkansas he served in many leadership positions of the Jaycees, Lions, Chamber of Commerce, Church and others. Between 1983 and 1991, he was employed as sales manager of Odom Antennas in Bebee, Arkansas. During this time, he was active in the First Baptist Church, Antioch Community Church and the Lions Club. In 1991, the Slaughters moved to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas where H.B. continued service to his community. He was an E.M.T. for the Fairfield Bay Rescue Squad for a period of 10 years. He also served as a tutor for the Van Buren County Adult Literacy Program and Shirley School.
He is a former member of the Southern Baptist Disaster Team. He also served on the Board of Wear & Share.
At the time of his death, he was a member of the Fairfield Bay American Legion, 32 Degree Mason and the Fairfield Bay Shriners. He was a member of the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church where he was a former deacon.
His passions included coin collection, animals, dancing, helping others and family, which included his cherished grandkids.
H.B. is survived by his wife of 22 years, Joyce; five daughters: Brenda Huffman of Hot Springs, Marla Bridges of Benton, Machelle Johnson and Raquenta Garrett of Cabot and Bridget Murray of Shirley; twelve grandchildren: Damien, Lucas, Patrick, Stacey, Hunter, Chase, Gabrielle, Megan, Derek, Ben, Alex and Faith; one great granddaughter Olivia, and a host of other relatives and special friends.
Preceding him in death were his former wife, daughter, mother, father, sister, brother and a granddaughter.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2005 at the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church in Fairfield Bay, with Brother Hilton Lane and Ronny Waycaster officiating. Interment will follow at the Arkansas Veteran's cemetery located at 1501 West Maryland in North Little Rock at 2 p.m. with full military honors.
The family requests that flowers should not arrive at the Church before Friday morning just before the services. Memorials may be sent to Arkansas Hospice at 5600 West 12th Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72204. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home in Heber Springs.
Vivian Clara Ashline Bowlin
Vivian Clara Ashline Bowlin, age 91, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas died peacefully on Friday May 13, 2005 at the Ozark Health Medical Center in Clinton, Arkansas. Born in Chicago, Illinois on May 4, 1914, she was the daughter of George L. and Nina (Versailles) Ashline.
Vivian graduated from Morgan Park High School in Chicago. She attended Crane Junior College in Chicago and the University of Iowa. She worked as a secretary for Montgomery Ward.
On August 21, 1937 she married
Richard Henderson Bowlin in Chicago. After their marriage, Vivian served as secretary to the University of Iowa Athletic Director, and also to Head Football Coach Dr. Eddie Anderson. Following her husband's graduation from dental school in 1940, the couple moved to Keokuk, Iowa where Dr. Bowlin began his dental practice.
During World War II while her husband served in the Navy overseas, Vivian worked as a nursing assistant at Graham Hospital in Keokuk and volunteered with the Red Cross. Later she served the community as a director of the YMCA Board and the Friendly House board. She was active in the Graham Hospital Guild, the Keokuk Athletics Booster Club, and was a member of P.E.O. for 57 years. For 12 years, she and her husband were co-directors of the Lee County, Iowa Bloodmobile. Vivian was also the founder of the Little Feathers Drill Team at Keokuk High School.
Vivian and Richard celebrated a joyful and fruitful life together, carrying on a love affair of more than 67 years.
Vivian is survived by her husband Dr. Richard H. Bowlin; three children Robert (Ellen) Bowlin of Moline, Illinois, George (Catherine) Bowlin of Falcon Heights, Minnesota, and JoEllen Bowlin Cornell of Fairfield Bay; five grandchildren David Bowlin, Paul Bowlin, Holly Cornell, Sarah Bowlin, and Rachel (Bryan) Bowlin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dr. George Ashline, and her son-in-law Warren Cornell.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 26 at 10 a.m. at the Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills Church in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas.
A visitation will be held from 9 - 9:45 a.m. at the church prior to the memorial service. Interment will follow at the National cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa. Memorial gifts may be made to the Church or to a charity of your choice.
Mrs. Virginia (Fratellio) Cain
Mrs. Virginia (Fratellio) Cain, 79 of Fairfield Bay, Ark. died Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at Jonesboro. She was born June 2, 1925 in Richmond, Ind., the daughter of John and Marta Fratellio.
Mrs. Cain was the owner and operator of the Newport Bakery from 1969 through the 1980s. She was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed painting, knitting, crocheting, sewing and crafts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse W. Cain on April 14, 2003 and her parents.
Mrs. Cain is survived by one son, Mike Cain and wife Mary Beth (Vickers) Cain of Albany, Georgia; one daughter, Priscilla Tennyson of Grubbs, Ark.; two sisters, Angie Paddock of Richmond, Ind. and Jeanette Simms of Cleveland, Ohio; three grandchildren, Allen Tennyson, Jessica Sykes and Anthony Tennyson; four great grandchildren, Sam Tennyson, Emily Tennyson, William Sykes and Caleb Sykes.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glen Hoselton and Rev. James Cornett, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Clark cemetery in Uno. Visitation will be Friday, 5 - 8 p.m.

Fred Louis McAllister
Fred Louis McAllister, 91, died May 31, 2005 in his home. He was born August 9, 1913 in Howell County, Missouri. He was the son of Edward M. and Lila Winton McAllister. In 1934 he married
Cleo B. Wharton. In 1967 he married
Donna Seymour who survives. Other survivors include: Fred (Carolyn) McAllister, Alexander, AR; Rowena (Wayne) Axton and Ann (Dennis) Hall, Oak Grove, MO; Julie (Patrick) McCabe, Memphis, TN; Gerald Louis McAllister, West Plains, MO; James McAllister, Fairfield Bay, AR; Sue Johnson, Kahoka, MO; Douglas (Pam) McAllister, Columbia, MO; one stepson David (Karen) Fuller, Linton, IN; 28 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Roy McAllister, Hot Springs, AR; and a sister, Ethel Barnett, Tipton, MO; plus several nieces and nephews. His parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, held public office in Henry County, Missouri, and then entered the banking business. In September of 1985, after retirement from the Kahoka State Bank, in Kahoka, MO, he and Donna moved to Fairfield Bay, AR. He was active in the Methodist Church, Lions Club, Outreach-in-the-Hills, a member of the Sam Williams Masonic Lodge at Edgemont and a volunteer at the Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed the life in Fairfield Bay, especially golfing. he also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
A memorial serve was held at the Fairfield Bay United Methodist Church on Friday June 3, 2005.

Mrs. Opal A. McKinley, age 89, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas passed away Sunday, May 29, 2005 at Ozark Health Medical Center in Clinton, Arkansas. Born in Stone County, Arkansas on April 27, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Basha (Berry) Duncan.
Mrs. McKinley was a homemaker, and she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph McKinley. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law DeLynn and Becky Byrd of Fairfield Bay; one brother Willie Duncan; three sisters Betty Goss, Joy Green and Elvy Holland; three grandchildren Christopher, Lori and Jennifer; and many great-grandchildren. Mrs. McKinley is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
