Joel Robert Bek
Mr. Joel Robert Bek, age 45 died at his home in Seaboard on Saturday, October 1, 2005. Mr. Bek was born in Jones County Iowa. He moved to Roanoke, Virginia where he graduated from Northside High School. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1982. Following graduation he went to work with Vepco Power Company, now known as Dominion Power in Virginia Beach. He was transferred to Ahoskie in 1987 where he continued to work with the company as a Customer Project Cordinator. He was married
to Ruth Moss in 1987 and they moved to Seaboard in 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth M. Bek, two daughters, Marion Payne and Ruthann Payne both of Seaboard, one son, Michael Payne of Greenville, one brother, Jeff Bek and his wife Becky of Virginia Beach, VA, his mother, Joan M. Bek of Greensboro, his father, Ted Bek and his wife Sunni of Fairfield Bay, AK, both grandmothers, Mildred Bek of Winterset, IA and Laura Morgan of Hopkinton, IA. Surviving also is one grandson, Henry Finas Payne, two nieces, Morgan and Rachel Bek and one nephew Brian Bek.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, October 7, 2005 at 2 P.M. at the Chapel of Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square with the Rev. Stephen Trussell officiating.
The family will receive friends following the funeral on Friday at the home of Joel and Ruth Bek in Seaboard.

Lera Rae
Lera Rae passed away at her home Saturday, October 15. The daughter of the late J.E. Pipes and Lucy Kellie Bradford Pipes, born May 30, 1903 in Brumbield, Kentucky. Lera was a dancing teacher and writer. A member of AARP, Permanent Residents, Byliners and Peace Lutheran Church.
She is lovingly remembered by her special friend, Sondra Wood and many other friends at Fairfield Bay. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 18 at 1 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Sue Flemr officiating. Entombment will be in Woodland Mausoleum, Dayton, Ohio.

Mr. Curtis M. Kelley
Mr. Curt Kelley, age 97 passed away at Indian Hills Good Samaritan on Oct. 10, 2005. He was 97 years old and only four days short of his next birthday.
Curt and his wife Dottie of 62 years moved to Fairfield Bay in 1977 and enjoyed their home on Meadowcliff Circle for those many years. Curt was a Christian and as his health waned in his final years looked forward to being reunited with Dottie whom preceded him in death as well as all his dear friends whom had beat him to the gates of Heaven. He was a welder by trade and worked in the defense industry during Word War 2 because he was to old to join the military. He was too young to see service in World War 1 but he lived to remember the way crops were planted on the farm in his youth with mules and to see Americans land on the moon during midlife. Curt always said it was a wonderful thing to live a long life if your health was good and many marveled at how good his was. He was a chance taker in some ways though and only recently friends were distressed to find him working on his roof. 'You are not ninety anymore Curt, ' was the common advice given and advice he usually ignored.
Curt Kelley and Dottie came to Fairfield Bay after visiting his nephew Cleave Hewitt and his wife Barb in the mid seventies and falling in love with the community. He continued to work into his eighties, building wrought iron rails, gates and spiral staircases. His wife Dottie worked tirelessly for the Christian faith in child evangelism and her death in 1998 from a fall off the bluff at the end of Meadowcliff Circle was a shock to the community. She and Curt were very popular with many. Upon Dotties passing, a son from California came to stay with Curt and was there until the end. He is also survived by another son in California, four grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Gratitude must be expressed to those loyal friends that often watched out for him as well as his pastor, Larry Loggins, Ozark Health Hospital and the doctors and nurses that tended to him and also the kind nurses and caretakers at Good Samaritan. Ironically Curt had played his fiddle for the 'old folks' there for years, most younger than himself and he passed away only a few feet down the hall from his earlier performances. There will be a memorial service at Friendship Baptist Church, 1321 3rd St., Clinton, Ark. on Thursday Oct. 27 at 1 p.m.
Robert W. "Bob" Steffens
Robert W. "Bob" Steffens, 79 of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at his home.
Friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m Friday at the Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Edward R. Peterson officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Atlantic, IA. Memorials have been established to the American Heart Association and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Born December 26, 1925, in Atlantic, IA, he was the son of Harry and Mildred Rhinehart Steffens.He graduated from Atlantic High School. On May 10, 1947, he married
Iona A. Campen at Coon Rapids, IA. She survives.
Mr. Steffens began a long career with the Iowa Highway Patrol in 1947. He worked as a Driver's License Examiner Clerk for one year. For the next 32 years he served as a Highway Patrolman. He was stationed in Carroll, IA for 13 years and for 19 years at the Mt. Pleasant Post. He retired as sergeant in June of 1981.
The Steffens retired to Fairfield Bay, AR, where they purchased and operated Irene's Ice Cream Shop for 8 years. The couple had just moved back to Mt. Pleasant last Friday, October 21st.
Bob thoroughly enjoyed working with the public and visiting with friends down at the coffee shops. He was a very active member in the Lions Club, and volunteered many hours at the Recycling Center and working at polling places during elections. He especially enjoyed golfing. Bob was member of the Signet Lodge # 264 A.F. & A.M. of Carroll, IA, and was a 32nd degree Mason through the Des Moines Consistory.
He is survived by his wife Iona of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two sons, Greg (Deanne) Steffens of Winterset, IA, and Dave (Barb) Steffens of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one daughter, Becky (Joe) Salacki of Wildwood, MO. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Kim Pollard, Stefanie White, Matthew Steffens and Nicholas Steffens; three step-grandchildren, Laura Melzer, Claire Melzer and Trey Salacki; two great-grandchildren, Bailey Pollard and Carter White.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Ruth Cook.
Ricca Ann Liles
Ricca Ann Liles, 66 years old of Shirley, AR. Born in Marmaduke, AR on January 1st in 1939. She married
Foster Liles on August 31st 1956 of 49 years.
She was a homemaker for 49 years, a member of the ladies aux. of Fairfield Bay, a member of the Eastern Star of Quitman. A loving wife, mother and Nana.
She is survived by her husband Foster, children Charvelle and husband Juan of Fairfield Bay; Dennis and wife Beverly of Guy; and Darin and wife Kelly of Shirley; four grandsons and two granddaughters; two great grandsons and two great granddaughters. Sisters Caroline and husband Donald Faughn of Fairfield Bay; Rebecca and husband Ed of Swartz Creek, MI; and sister-in-law Geneva Swink of Linden, MI; brothers Hulon Swink and wife Karen of West Plains, MO; Leamon Swink and wife Katie Swartz Creek, MI; Gary Swink and wife Nelda of Inverness, FL; Gordon Swink and wife Evelyn of West Plains, MO; Ron Swink and wife Chris of Flint, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents Marlin and Madge Swink, one son Steven Foster; brother Gene Swink, one nephew Rodney Swink and great niece Paige Rutter.
Pallbearers are Patrick Liles, Steven Liles, Tye Newman, Scott Tessier, Matthew Swink, and Jason Swink with Steve Farris as honorary pallbearer.

Mr. Frank Kenneth Barry
Frank Kenneth Barry, 86, died on 11 November 2005 at the Good Samaritan Indian Rock Village (IRV); this day was most appropriate because he was a veteran of WWII. He was born on 16 June 1919 in Gage, OK, although he later grew up and graduated from high school in Mercedes, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Billie M. Barry of Fairfield Bay, two sons, Bill F. and G. Roy Barry of Edgemont, and one daughter Judy Ann Strangfeld of Canon City, CO. He also had nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
After working in an ice-cream parlor prior to volunteering for service in the U.S Army, he later attended college and became an accountant. He quickly rose to the position of Director of Finance and Administration for Thiokol Chemical Corporation, makers of the Minute Man Missile in the salt flats of Utah. His hobbies were fishing, reading, collecting elephant figurines, and listening to music from the 1940s.
A private service was held at IRV, and no formal funeral services will be conducted. At his request, he will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered over the Flanary family ranch in Iredell, TX. His final care was provided by the IRV staff and by Hospice Home Care of Conway, AR. Arrangements were handled by Olmstead Funeral Home of Heber Springs, AR.
Judith Lorraine Donaldson
Judith Lorraine Donaldson, 45 of Shirley died Thursday, October 27, 2005. She was born November 23, 1959 in Olean, NY. The daughter of Micklas Kohut and Kathleen Cricks Kohut Humphrey. She was a homemaker and a Christian.
She was preceded in death by her father Micklas Kohut, grandfather Walter Cricks and grandmother Vivian Kohut.
Survivors include her grandfather Mickie A. Kohut of Apple Valley, CA, grandmother Anna Belle Cricks of Salamanca, NY, mother Kathleen Cricks Kohut Humphrey, stepfather Bruce Humphrey both of Fairfield Bay, three daughters; Rachel Ramsey, Renee Donaldson, and Regina Donaldson all of Marshall; two sisters: Susan Caminiti of Fairfield Bay and Donna Daunch of Victorville, California; her aunt and uncle, Gail and Lyn Hoard of Apple Valley, CA, Phyllis and Dan Baker of Salamanca, NY, Robert and Judy Cricks of Murrieta, CA; seven grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Monday, October 31 at Roller-McNutt Chapel in Clinton with Rev. Bill Klahn officiating.
Mr. Nicholas N. Kovacevich
Nicholas N. Kovacevich, age 86 passed away Friday, November 25, 2005 at his home in Fairfield Bay. He was born on November 19, 1919 in Dekalb, IL. Nicholas was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, American Legion and VFW. He was an army veteran of World War II. Nicholas was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marian.
Survivors are his son, Michael Kovacevich and his wife, Deborah of Elburn, IL and granddaughters, Oliva and Kelsey. Funeral mass is Monday, November 28, 2005 at 9 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Internment, St. Francis Colubarium with Rev. Bill Elser officiating. Thomas J. Clark
Thomas J. Clark SCPO, USN (Ret.) of Shirley, AR passed away on December 3, 2005. He was born on 24 September 1925 in Shirley, AR to Thomas E. Clark and Rosa Ann (Bradford) Clark. Survivors are wife Fredda, daughters Deborah J. Ward and Michelle G. Bruce, one grandson, three granddaughters and two great-grandchildren. Deborah and husband live in San Dimas, CA and Michelle and husband live in Conway, AR. Tom and Fredda were united in marriage on 3 February 1951 in Reno, Nevada and enjoyed a long and happy marriage. Education included Shirley High School, and the Armed Forces Institute. He entered the U.S. Navy in April 1944, graduating from boot camp at Farragut, Idaho. Serving in the Pacific and Far East his entire career that spanned 27 years and three wars - WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He was accompanied by his wife and daughters on tours of duty in Hawaii and Taipei, Taiwan. The daughters enjoyed attending the Department of Defense sponsored school in Taipei. A tour of duty at CINCPAC Headquarters in Honolulu, Hawaii in the Foreign Military Aid Branch from 8 Aug 1967 to 8 Aug 1970 provided military aid to Taiwan, the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam was a challenge. Senior Chief Clark retired from the Navy on 26 October 1970 after a four-year tour of duty at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit in Idaho Falls, Idaho, returned to Arkansas with wife Fredda and daughter Michelle, built a house on the old homestead where he lived the remainder of his life. Also survived by brother Hurbert Clark and sister Connie Ward.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the United Methodist Church of Fairfield Bay Arkansas or the Fairfield Bay Rescue Unit. Visitations Monday, December 5, 2005 from 5-7 pm and funeral services are 2pm Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at the Fairfield Bay Methodist Church with internment in the Bradford cemetery. Doris C. Love
Doris C. Love, 77, of Fairfield Bay, Ark., died at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Love was retired personnel coordinator for the Veterans Administration in Gulfport, Miss. She was a member of Fairfield Bay Country Club.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday Nov. 10, at Fairfield Bay Baptist Church. Calling will be from 1 p.m. Saturday. Private inurnment will be later.

Born in Dubuque, Iowa, Nov. 26, 1928, Mrs. Love was the daughter of Chris and Ruth Lindenberg Donatsch. She married
Robert E. Love May 1, 1970, in Gulfport.
Survivors include her husband; sons, Mike Love of Jackson, Miss., and Richard Berzle of San Diego; daughters, Tammy Cagle of Monroe, La., Kimberly Humes of Columbus and Kerry Foster of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Helen Ditmer of Dubuque, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Lucille V. Herman
Lucille V. Herman died Monday, December 5, 2005. She was born April 6, 1924, in Malden, MO. She lived in Kansas City and Springfield, MO, and Oklahoma City, OK, before moving to Fairfield Bay, AR in February, 2004. She is survived by her husband Raymond, sons Douglas and Fred, and daughter Nan, seven grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 10, in Springfield, MO.
The family expresses gratitude to the staff at Indian Rock Village, Ozark Health Medical Center, and doctors Young, Gray, Coward, Zimmerman, & Murphy, and the Fairfield Bay Emergency Services volunteers.

Katherine Elizabeth Lott
Katherine Elizabeth Lott, age 74, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Friday, December 2, 2005. Born in Rock Island, Illinois, on October 7, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Harvey L. and Carrie A. (Spence) Lott.
A former resident of Riceville, Iowa, Miss Lott had lived in Fairfield Bay since 1980. She attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and she was a retired music teacher. Miss Lott enjoyed music and flowers. She attended the Fairfield Bay First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her friend, Hazel Clark and her caregiver, Yvone Ragland. Miss Lott is also survived by many other friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
Anna Mae O'Sullivan
Anna Mae O'Sullivan, age 82, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away at her home on Sunday, December 4, 2005. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 21, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Hugh J. and Annie W. (Hollerbach) Brennan.
A former resident of Montclair, New Jersey, Mrs. O'Sullivan had been a resident of Fairfield Bay since January of 1985. She was a mother and homemaker and a member of the Ladies 9 Hole Golfers, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, and the Church Altar Society.
She is survived by: her husband, Thomas F. O'Sullivan of Fairfield Bay; six sons, Timothy F. O'Sullivan of Bloomfield, New Jersey, Richard H. O'Sullivan of Newfoundland, New Jersey, Brian D. O'Sullivan of Forest Grove, Oregon, Dennis J. O'Sullivan of Tucson, Arizona, Sean T. O'Sullivan of Lynnwood, Washington, and Patrick G. O'Sullivan of Dillon, Colorado; one daughter, Phyllis A. Hamer of Tucson, Arizona; one brother, Francis J. Brennan of Dallas, Texas; her sister-in-law, Catherine Moroney of San Diego, California; thirteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. O'Sullivan is also survived by other relatives and her many friends. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Elser officiating. Internment will be in Woodland Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at Fairfield Bay or the Conway Hospice.
