Sondra S. Wood
Sondra S. Wood, 67 of Fairfield Bay, formerly of Kettering, Ohio, passed away Monday, March 13, 2006 at Conway Regional Hospital. She was born November 14, 1938 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Elmer E. Wood and Dorothy Wood.. She was a Residential Design Architect, a retired real estate broker and a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Sondra was a fun loving person who loved her God, enjoyed her time on the lake and her time with friends. Her dogs were her kids! She was a former member of the Peace Lutheran Church Council, she was a former member of the church choir and was a past vacation bible school instructor. Among the many "fun" things she did in life, Sondra was a High School Disc Jockey in Ohio. Sondra was preceded in death by her special friend Lera Rae. She is survived by many caring friends and her dedicated care givers. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 16th at Peace Lutheran Church, Edgemont, AR with Pastor Sue Flemr officiating. Entombment will be at Woodland Mausoleum in Ohio. Max Anthony Braunger
Max Anthony Braunger, husband of Sundae Braunger, passed away Monday, March 20, 2006 at his home in Fairfield Bay. Born July 2, 1918, in Sioux City, Iowa, Max, the son of Anthony Braunger and Josephine (Hensler) Braunger, was 87 years old. He had been the co-owner of A. Braunger Institutional Foods in Sioux City, a meat and grocery supply business for restaurants in a three state area. He retired in 1980 and moved down to Fairfield Bay.
Max served during World War II in the Air Force, training as a flight instructor and also flying various military planes around the United States and later, overseas into areas of India near the Burma Hump. After the war, he remained in the reserve and retired as a major.
He married
Mary Catherine Dyer in 1941. Mary died in 1967. He married
Sundae Robinson in 1971.
His passions in life were his family, bridge, golf, flying, and bowling.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, rising to 4th degree Knight, and a proud retired member of the Air Force Reserve and later, the VFW.
Survivors include eight children and their spouses: Tom and Lujean Braunger, John and Jane Braunger, Mark and Mary Kay Braunger, Mary Beth Braunger, Patty Braunger, Ed and Barbara Braunger, Mike Braunger, and Molli Braunger; one daughter-in-law, Pat Braunger; three stepchildren and their spouses: Karal (Robinson) and Dale Slate, Gene and Jane Chan, and Mike and Julie Chan; two sisters, Helen Jean Kelly and Margaret Neenan; and 43 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jim, two stepsons, Daniel Jay Robinson and Patrick Robinson; three brothers: John, Paul, and Francis; and five sisters: Anne Marie Kriege, Marie Braunger, Grace Braunger, Cecelia Melchiors, and Betty McCarthy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 25, at 10 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City, with Father Merlin Schrad officiating. The wake will be Friday at 7 PM at the Larkin Funeral Home North, also in Sioux City.
A memorial Mass service at 4 PM on Thursday, April 6, will be held at St. Francis of Assissi Catholic Church in Fairfield Bay, with Father William Elser officiating.
Shirley Miller
Born July 11, 1920 to Philip and Pearl (Bohnett) Mitchell in Chicago. She attended elementary and high school on the south side of Chicago. Attended Lawrence College (now Lawrence University) in Appleton, Wisconsin for one year. She planned to be a dance teacher but canceled her plans when she met her future husband. She went to work as a Service Representative for Illinois Bell. She married
on August 30, 1941, and quit work in 1942 to become a mother and homemaker. She moved to the suburbs of Chicago in December 1947. Her husband was transferred to Wisconsin in 1955 when they moved to Appleton and then to Menomonee Falls in 1962. She volunteered and then worked part time in the Physical Therapy Department at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls from 1968 to 1977. She moved to Fairfield Bay in December of 1980; taught aerobics from March 1982 to July 1985. She has traveled extensively. Shirley joined Hope (now Peace) Lutheran Church and became involved as an assistant minister, WELCA, as secretary, and in social events, mostly with food..
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; her brother, Phil, Jr.; and her sister, Dorothy. Shirley has six children: Barbara (Don) Carrig, Scott (Sharon) Miller, John (Patricia) Miller, Marcia (Wendall) Sage, Sara Michael, and Mark (Shannon) Miller. She has 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephew, and many friends.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Peace Lutheran Church of Edgemont at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Susan Flemr officiating.

James K. "J.K." Harrell
J.K. Harrell, age 66, of Fairfield Bay, formerly of Germantown & Cardova, TN, born September 14, 1939, passed away March 22, 2006 in Conway, AR. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 49 years, Gayle P. Harrell, of Fairfield Bay; son, James Kenneth Harrell, Jr. (Kenny) of Fairfield Bay; daughter, Dena Hendren Lankford and husband, Russ of Cordova, TN; and son, Chad M. Harrell and wife, Deidra of Bartlett, TN; five grandchildren: Amanda Trantham of Pineville, LA, Kelly Harrell of Pineville, LA, Wesley Hendren of Cordova, TN, Lauren Michele Harrell of Bartlett, TN and Charlie Harrell of Bartlett, TN; four great-grandchildren: Brice Riggs, Levi Trantham, Abigail Trantham and Gracie Trantham. He also leaves two sisters, Irene Sanders of Crawfordville, FL and Grace Wells of GA and one brother, Melvin Harrell of Crawfordville, FL.
J.K. was a deacon at Fairfield Bay Baptist Church. He retired from Nationwide Insurance Company in 2001 as a District Sales Manager. He was President of the Grand Isle Property Owner's Association and served on many committees throughout the community.
He loved the Lord, he loved his wife and family and especially enjoyed having his children and their families visit Fairfield Bay. He was well loved by everyone he met, and was always willing to give a hand. He loved to hunt and fish and he enjoyed sitting on his back porch with his wife, Gayle, observing the birds and wildlife. He will be greatly missed.

Una Reed
Una Reed, wife of George Reed, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2006 at her home in Shirley, AR. She was born on Dec. 2, 1944, to Luther & Opal Leathers in Malvern, AR. Una graduated GlenRose High School and went on to become a journalist in the U.S. Navy. There she met and married
George Reed in 1966.
Formally from Lodi, California, she's been a longtime resident of the Shirley/Fairfield Bay area and was the supervisor for Hot Pads at Sunset Mountain Candle Factory in Shirley.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, George Reed of Shirley, April Haislip (daughter) of Shirley, Carl Reed (son) of Fairfield Bay, Tamay Braden (daughter) & Brad of California; Thomas Tyson (adopted son) of Shirley, 6 grandchildren; Chris Jr. & Amanda Reed of Shirley, and Heaven, Ghetti, Lillian & Quinlin of California. One sister Gerry Pelton of Conway, AR, one sister-in-law, Joann Matts (Duane); two brother-in-laws: Jim Reed (Rose) and Wayne Reed, all of California; two nephews: Terry Pelton (Patty) and Clyde Pelton (Laura); and two great nieces.
Memorial services will be held at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton, AR on April 8, 2006 at 10:00 am with Pastor Ronnie Waycaster presiding.
Erma L. Hanna
Erma Lillian Scott Hanna died Thursday, March 30, 2006 at the home of her daughter, Sharon Hanna Rappaport, in Fairfield Bay. Born November 12, 1914 in Traverse City, Michigan she was the daughter of Francis Alvin Scott and Edith Welsh Scott. Erma attended college in Traverse City and worked as a legal secretary and bookkeeper. On January 22, 1939 she married
Joseph W. Hanna in Traverse City. In 1946 they moved to Petoskey, Michigan and opened Hanna's Music, a long time retail fixture in Petoskey. Following their retirement in 1980 Erma and Joe made their home in Hudson, Florida until his death in 1999. She moved to Fairfield Bay to live with her daughter in 2000.
Erma and Joe are survived by three children, Douglas (Dorothy of Mystic, Connecticut, Sharon (Sheldon) Rappaport) of Fairfield Bay, and Marsha (Michael Moran) of Canton, Michigan, 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Frank, Donald and Wilford, and a sister, Marjorie, predeceased her. A memorial observance will be held this summer in northern Michigan at the convenience of the family. Donations in Erma's memory may be made to Hospice or to the Fairfield Bay Animal Shelter.
Dr. Henry H. Reed
Dr. Henry H. Reed died on April 15, 2006. He was born September 18, 1926 to Fred B. and Irma Charlotta Reed and was raised on a 'dust bowl farm' near Larned, Kansas. In 1944 he became an Aviation Cadet in the Army Air force. Following his military service, he attended the University of Kansas, graduating with an M.D. in 1953. Four years of post graduate training were split between University of Kansas Medical Center and University of Wisconsin School of Medicine. In 1957, he joined the pediatric department of the Duluth Clinic in Minnesota. He became a board certified pediatrician in 1959, and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics in 1960.
Henry was very active in the medical leadership, government, growth and medical educational areas. He was president of the St. Louis County Medical Society, a delegate to the Minnesota State Medical Society for 16 years, and chief of pediatrics at St. Mary's and St. Luke's Hospitals in Duluth, Minnesota. He was on the board of directors of Minnesota Blue Cross/Blue Shield, the Duluth Minnesota Mental Hygiene Clinic, Family Service of greater Duluth and the Eddy Foundation, which supported furtherance of higher education for the communicationally impaired in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. He also belonged to the Northwest Pediatric Society, and the American Medical Association. He served on the Duluth Clinic Board of Directors for six years, two as their Vice President. He was a delegate to the American Group Practice Society and served for several years on the Governmental Relations Committee with annual meetings in Washington D.C. In 1988, Henry was promoted to Full Clinical Professor at the University of Minnesota-Duluth School of Medicine.
In 1989, after 32 years in the practice of pediatrics, Henry and wife, Claudia, retired to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, where he continued his volunteerism. For many years he was the medical director of 'Outreach in the Hills' in Fairfield Bay and served on several committees for the welfare of children in Van Buren County, including the immunization program. Henry was a Paul Harris Fellow in the Fairfield Bay Rotary Club and chairman of their 'career days' program for several years. He was President of the Van Buren County Master Gardener program, the area Ambassador's Club and a member of the Fairfield Bay Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills.
Preceded in death was his brother, J. Brice Reed. He is survived by his wife, Claudia; a son, Matthew DuMont Reed of St. Louis, Missouri; a daughter, Kerri Michelle Green of Poplar, Wisconsin and a daughter, Tracey McDaniel of Washington, D.C. There are five granddaughters. There will be a memorial service at the Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills in Fairfield Bay on Saturday, April 22nd, at 2:30 p.m. Henry was a loving and supportive husband and father, neighbor and physician. We give thanks for the blessings of his life among us.
Joseph Champion Krimm
Joseph Champion Krimm, age 85, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away at his home on April 16, 2006. He was born to Myra Paulhamus Krimm and Joseph Anthony Krimm on April 23, 1920 in Muncy, Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Louise Krimm; brother, Gerald Grantham Krimm; and a grandson, Byran Lee Krimm.
He leaves his wife, Ruby Griff Krimm to whom he was married
for over sixty-two years. He also leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph G. and Linda Krimm of Dallas, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Tomm Lochmann of Houston, Texas; two grandsons, Joseph W. Krimm and Scott T. Lochmann; one granddaughter and her husband, Kristin S. and Thomas Schulze; and three great-granddaughters, Britney K. Krimm, Brooklyn L. Krimm, and Kassandra E. Schultze.
While growing up in Muncy, Joe listened and played big band music, and during high school he was the drummer in his own band. He was inspired by Gene Krupa and the Benny Goodman Orchestra who played at his high school prom. He really loved chocolate and would buy, then sell, chocolate bars to earn more money so he could buy and eat more chocolate.
He attended Bucknell University in Pennsylvania until he was drafted into the Army during World War II. He received OCS training in Florida and graduated as an Air Force 2nd Lt. In January, 1943. He was then stationed with the Air Force Reserves at Wendover Field, UT, where he met and married
Ruby. He was a member of the 825th Bomb Squadron and received many ribbons for his squadron's campaigns into France and Germany. He served until December, 1945.
During the time he was stationed in Italy, he was fortunate to meet Padre Pio, who is now Saint Pio. He regularly attended Padre Pio's masses and was invited to have dinner at the San Giavonni Rotondo Monastery with Padre Pio. He always felt honored to have met and talked with Padre Pio.
He was recalled into active duty in September, 1951 and retired as a Major in September, 1961. He then worked Civil Service as a Supervisor Budget Analyst and retired from Civil Service in 1977. His duties took he and his family to several state side bases and to the Philippines. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from University of the Philippines.
Joseph and Ruby moved to Fairfield Bay from Greenwood, MO, in November, 1987. While in Greenwood he served on the City Council and was a member of the Kansas City Toast Masters. He and Ruby enjoyed many hours of cruising and entertaining friends on Greers Ferry Lake on their 'Y-Knot' pontoon boat. As a couple they often went square and round dancing. He especially enjoyed waltzing, the foxtrot, and the polka.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Community and a 3rd and 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.
A rosary will be held on Tuesday, April 18, at 7 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 19, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Elser officiating. Knights of Columbus will serve as pallbearers. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joseph C. Geneva Evelyn Carr
Geneva Evelyn Carr, 96 went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 14th, 2006. She was born in Long, Oklahoma, on July 26-1909.
She is survived by one daughter, Rita J. Godsey, of Shirley, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Everett Carr, daughter Alice Diane Carr and her parents.
Mrs. Carr resided at Lefler Apartments for many years and was in Ozark Health Nursing Home at the time of her death. Mrs. Carr was a homemaker.
She is survived by a host of friends, a special friend who cared for her many years, Mrs. Naomi Skaggs.
Graveside Services were held Tuesday, May 16, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Carlos Trapp officiating, held at Settlement cemetery of Shirley, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Shirley First Baptist Church building fund.

Arthur Edward Jensby
Arthur Edward Jensby, age 79, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Friday, May 19, 2006. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 13, 1927, he was the son of the late Clifford LaDew and Marie Jensby.
Mr. Jensby served as a police officer for the city of Lombard, Illinois, and as a security guard in Belvedere, Illinois. In 1991, he and his wife Barbara moved to Fairfield Bay. Mr. Jensby was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army. He was a member and former Commander of the Fairfield Bay V.F.W. Post 4513, and he was in charge of the Honor Guard. Mr. Jensby's religious belief was Protestant.
He is survived by: his wife, Barbara Mae (Peavey) Jensby of Fairfield Bay; one son, Robert Jensby of St. Charles, Illinois; three daughters, Susanne Kuras of Woodstock, Illinois, Cathy Quirk of South Elgin, Illinois, and Mary Buchanan of St. Charles, Illinois; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Jensby is also survived by other relatives and his many friends. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
Theresa 'Terry' Hapke
Theresa 'Terry' Hapke, age 84, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away at home on Sunday, May 21, 2006. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Zokalt) Butara.
A former resident of Decatur, Illinois, and Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. Hapke had been a resident of Fairfield Bay since 1987. She enjoyed serving as a volunteer and worked with several organizations including Food for Life, Fairfield Bay Library, Meals on Wheels, and as a tutor at Shirley Elementary School. Mrs. Hapke was a member of the Fairfield Bay Literary Club and Fairfield Bay United Methodist Church.
She is survived by: her husband, Art Hapke; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gretchen and Lee Sherk and Martha and Mike Flaherty; and three grandsons, Kyle Sherk and his wife, Vanessa, Christopher and Patrick Arthur-Flaherty.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2006 at the Fairfield Bay United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Fairfield Bay United Methodist Church. Arrangements: Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.
Victor W. 'Butch' Enochs, Jr.
Victor W. 'Butch' Enochs, Jr., former resident of Fairfield Bay, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2006 in his current hometown of Wichita, Kansas. He had been employed by the lumberyard, worked with the fire dept. and Fairfield Bay Area VFW. Butch was employed by Raytheon Aircraft as a sheet metal worker in Wichita. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., services are Friday, 10:30 a.m. both at Hillside Funeral Home West Chapel, 2929 W. 13th St., Wichita, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Ruth Anne Enochs and his brother James V. Enochs. Survivors include his sister Carolyn A. Walker of Sabina, Ohio; aunt, Glendene Miller of Wichita; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorials are suggested to Make A Wish Foundation, 2016 N. Amidon, Wichita, KS, 67203.
Donald Godwin Thompson
On June 1st, 2006, Donald Godwin Thompson, 84, passed away at this home and went to his new home which Jesus had prepared for him. Don was the son of William and Lily Thompson of Garden Grove, Iowa, one of twelve brothers and sisters. He was a farmer and carpenter in Iowa for 31 years before retiring to Fairfield Bay in 1977 where he was a builder and an avid boater and fisherman. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy in Anti-Submarine Operations off the Atlantic Seaboard. He was a member of Fairfield Bay United Methodist Church and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Wanda, children Sandra and Dr. Bill Robson, Norma Thompson-Pomerleau, Richard and Mii Thompson; brother, Carl and sister Helen; grandchildren Nathaniel and wife Alicia, Rachael and Robert, Amber and Ashley Pomerleau, Cathleen Smith, Christine Hashim; and great-grandchildren Tanner, Carson, Hunter, Spencer and Parker. Don was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters Victor, Archie, Carrie, Winnie, Lura, Tom, Wayne, Billie and Harriet, and a son, Ronald James.
