John L. Neely
John L. Neely, age 78, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Born in the state of Arkansas, on November 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Jim and Jettie (Runsick) Neely.
Mr. Neely had lived at Fairfield Bay for two years and was a former resident of Grubbs. He was retired from Victor Metals in Newport and enjoyed fishing and baseball.
Mr. Neely was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jim Neely, Jr.
Survivors include: his wife, Bernice (Cloud) Neely of Fairfield Bay; three sons, Wayne Neely of Manchester, Tennessee, David Neely of Batesville, and Keith Neely of Smyrna, Tennessee; one daughter, Nanette Crotts of Fairfield Bay; two brothers, Paul Neely of Pleasant Plains and Joe Neely of Tunica, Mississippi; one sister, Jan Edwards of Sulphur Springs, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jonathan Neely of Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany, Shannon Neely of Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, Kayland Neely of Amagon, Jamie Mosher of Dayton, Ohio, Kyle Neely of Batesville, Jason Crotts and Micah Crotts of Lexington, Kentucky, and Carina Crotts of Washington, D.C., and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Neely is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 17, at the Eglane Church of Christ at 1 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Emmit Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Memorial Park. Jason Crotts, Jonathan Neely, Shannon Neely, Kyle Neely, Kayland Neely, Gary Cloud, and Danny Cloud will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Lillian A. Hanson
Lillian A. Hanson, age 85, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Monday, June 19, 2006, at the Indian Rock Village in Fairfield Bay. Born in Auronzo Cadore, Italy, on February 6, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Corte Bai) Vecellio.
At age seven Lillian came from Italy with her parents to the United States through Ellis Island. She worked in accounting for Kaiser Engineering. A former resident of Riverdale, Illinois, Mrs. Hanson had lived in Fairfield Bay for twenty-two years and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry S. Hanson, on March 14, 2000.
She is survived by one son, Thomas Atwood of Homewood, Illinois; and one daughter, Jean Anderson and her husband, Albert, of Garland, Texas. Mrs. Hanson is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. The funeral mass will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Tom Keller officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Memorial Park. Tom Atwood, Al Anderson, Tom Lang, Rollie Winters, Bob Tubbs, and Norb Rumps will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Lois Elaine Hazel Thomas
On June 24, 2006 God took Lois Elaine Hazel Thomas home with Him. Lois Elaine was 77 years young when she passed. Married to Gary Lee Thomas on April 17, 1994, they enjoyed their life in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, President of the Auxiliary Oklahoma City Lions Club, a member of the Toast Masters Club, a participant of the Little Theater, and one of the four founders of BERL Industries, the creator of the board game Aggravation'. The daughter of Minnie May and Hilton Clay Hazel of Monroe, Louisiana, Lois Elaine was born on August 11, 1928, as the second child of four children. Her death was preceded by two sisters, Sarah Hattie Delgado and Joyce Anita Grayson, and two husbands, Rudolph Clement Malchar, the father of her children, and Robert C. O'Kelley.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Lee Thomas; her brother, Hilton C. Hazel, Jr.; five children including Sharon Elaine and Mitchell Easley of Plano, TX, Pamela Kathryn and Sid Stell of Norman, OK, Randolph Leon and LeDawn Malchar of Shawnee, OK, Kathleen Suzanne and Charles Laster of Shawnee, OK, and Martha Jenice O'Kelley of Batesville, AR; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
During her amazing life, she always found time for all. She will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her and had the pleasure of enjoying her love and zest for life.
Visitation will be held at the Olmstead Woodland Chapel on Tuesday from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Woodland Memorial Park. Arrangements: Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Ruth Elaine Strickland
Ruth Elaine Strickland, 69, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at Baptist Health Care in Little Rock, Arkansas. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS, 913-856-7111. Cremation will follow with inurnment at a later date. Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2006, at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner. Memorial Contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
Ruth was born July 7, 1936 in Lawrence, KS to James and Bonnie (Willis) Tatham. She graduated from Lawrence High School. She married Marion C. Strickland on September 3, 1955 in Lawrence. They lived in Kansas City, KS, Atlanta, GA, Memphis, TN, Washington D.C., Ottawa, KS and then retired to Arkansas in 1993. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence, and the Sweet Adelines in Washington and Ottawa.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Marion of Fairfield Bay, AR; sons James Lee Strickland, Lawrence, KS, Terry Allen Strickland, Key West, FL; sister Patricia Disque, Baldwin City, KS; brother Clifford Tatham, Olathe, KS; and an extended family of nieces and nephews. She was a devoted wife, mother and aunt, and will be dearly missed by her family.

Lois Rose
Lois Helen Rose of Fairfield Bay passed away June 25, 2006 at the age of 80.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dudley Rose of Fairfield Bay; son, Stuart Rose and wife Alice of Bedminster, New Jersey; daughter, Janice Petro and husband Dan of Lakewood, Colorado; two grandchildren, Gareth Leighton Rose and Kailey Rose Petro.
A memorial service will be held on July 3 at 10:30 a.m., at the Fairfield Bay United Methodist Church.

Dr. Laurence Patrick McCain
Dr. Laurence Patrick McCain, age 88, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Indian Rock Village in Fairfield Bay. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 19, 1918, he was the son of the late Earl and Alice (McCoy) McCain.
Dr. McCain was a retired veterinarian and had worked for the United States Department of Agriculture. A resident of Fairfield Bay for eighteen years, he was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Dr. McCain was preceded in death by his wife, Elline (McQuain) McCain, on March 5, 1994.
He is survived by eleven sons and two daughters: James McCain of Colorado, Thomas McCain of Missouri, Karen Ledgerwood of Virginia, Michael McCain of Kentucky, Joseph McCain of Colorado, Gary McCain of Virginia, David McCain of Colorado, Jonathan McCain of Arkansas, Dennis McCain of New York, Dr. Patrick McCain of Wisconsin, Dr. Terrence McCain of Kentucky, Janet Mehler of Virginia, and Dr. Gerald McCain of Oregon; twenty-seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Wilson Schollman of Nebraska, and his sister-in-law and husband, Lola and Bob Hagen of North Dakota.
Dr. McCain is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
A rosary will be held Wednesday, July 12, at 7 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be officiated by Father William Elser on Thursday, July 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fairfield Bay. Burial will be held at Woodland Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Kayla Nicole Shawl
Kayla Nicole Shawl of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Friday, August 18, 2006, at Drasco, Arkansas. Born in Searcy, Arkansas, on November 30, 1988, she was 17 years of age.
Kayla enjoyed shopping, being with her friends, and animals. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church. Kayla was preceded in death by her grandparents, Louis and Darlene Dykstra and Butch Lawson. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Lisa and Dan Dykstra; her father, Steve Shawl; one sister, Jaime Shawl; her grandmother, Donna Lawson; her aunts and uncles, Jeff and Carol Lawson, John Lawson, and Jeff and Melinda Dykstra; and her many cousins. Kayla is also survived by other relatives and her many friends. Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 22, from 12:30-2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church. Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sue Flemr officiating.
Interment was in Woodland Memorial Park. Jacob Swenson, Corey Murray, Cole Gardner, William Doubleday, Hunter Tynes, and Tyler Delk served as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church Pastors Discretionary Fund or the Fairfield Bay Animal Shelter.

VAN STEELANDT, Ron R.
VAN STEELANDT, Ron R., Age 47, was called Home to walk again with the Lord September 7, 2006. Loving son of Arthur & Rosemary Van Steelandt, beloved brother of Julie (Mark) Frentrup, Anne (Gary) Brown, Arthur (Raenu) Van Steelandt, Beth (Kevin Roach) Mapes, Sue (John) Furry and Russ (Mary) Van Steelandt. Dear uncle of nine nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 pm on Monday, September 11, 2006, at AJ Desmond & Sons Funeral Home at 32515 Woodward Avenue (between 13 & 14 Mile) in Royal Oak, Michigan. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at 11 am at St. Hugo of the Hills Catholic Church at 2215 Opdyke Road in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Memorial tributes to the American Diabetes Association.

Edward Carl Hippe
Edward Carl Hippe, age 70, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 26, 2006. Born in Janesville, Wisconsin, on July 28, 1936, he was the son of Sigrid (Utterberg) Hippe and the late Harold Hippe. Mr. Hippe was an electrical engineer. He received his bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, and his master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania Moore School of Engineering. of Electrical Engineers. He was a veteran of the United States Marines. A resident of Fairfield Bay for the past four years, Mr. Hippe served as a member of the Fairfield Bay Library Board, an EMT with the Fairfield Bay Rescue Squad, and was a member and past president of American Association of Retired Persons. He was a member of Fairfield Bay First United Methodist Church and the church choir Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Loree Hippe of Bremerton, Washington, and John and DesAnne Hippe of Waukesha, Wisconsin his mother, Sigrid Hippe of Indian Rock Village in Fairfield Bayone brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Nancy Hippe of Wausau, Wisconsin two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol Lee and David Logan of Elizabethton, Tennessee; and Debra and George Rowe of Nashotah, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Joshua Hippe, Jason Hippe, and Hannah Hippe;three nephews, Steve Logan, Matthew Hippe, and Matthew Logan; and three nieces, Jenny McKinney, Laina Rowe, and Krista Rai Greene.Mr. Hippe is also survived by other relatives and his many friends. A memorial service for Mr. Hippe will be held Saturday, September 30, at 10:00 a.m. in the Fairfield Bay First United Methodist Church. A reception will follow the service. Memorials may be made to the Fairfield Bay First United Methodist Church, the Fairfield Bay Rescue Squad, or Fairfield Bay Library. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Billy 'Bid' Eastwood
Billy 'Bid' Eastwood passed away on September 20 at Arkansas Hospice, North Little Rock, of complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Bid and his wife, Sally, moved to Fairfield Bay two years ago from Northern California. Bid was a Barber by trade and was preceded in death by two daughters, Simone and Jill Eastwood. His body was donated to UAMS for study. Donations may be made in his name to Arkansas Hospice Center, 3h, 2200 Fort Roots Dr. North Little Rock, AR. 72114-1709 Bid was a sweet, kind, gentle soul.

Stanley Charles Herren
Stanley Charles Herren, veteran and retired optometrist from Oswego, Illinois died Friday, October 13th. Stanley was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte Herren and is survived by his present wife, Marti Herren and his children Ruth Ann Seney (Brock), Linda Annand (Sam), David Herren (Jan), Paul Herren (Kim), Martha Reed (Ron), and 8 grandchildren.
He was a long time member of the Lions Club and the American Legion, a Shriner and a Rotarian.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 21 at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills in Fairfield Bay.
The family will receive friends after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills Church.
