Galen Wilson Rockett
Tuesday, February 27, 1951 - Monday, October 29, 2007
Funeral services for Galen Wilson Rockett, 56, of Ruston, were held Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Cook Baptist Church in Ruston. Dr. Mike Holloway officiated the
service and Interment followed in Dubach, at Fellowship Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.
Galen was born on Feb. 27, 1951, to Don and Eleanor Rockett and passed away at home on Monday, Oct. 29, 2007.
Galen enjoyed a lifetime loyalty to Louisiana Tech University where as a young child he attended the lab school and later completed his bachelor's and master's degrees.
He was employed as Director of Judicial Affairs with 30 years of service with Louisiana Tech at the time of his death.
In 2006, he closed out 25 years of service as a game official in charge of scoreboard operations at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Madden Rockett; sons, Don Rockett and wife Danika, of Baltimore, MD, and Will Rockett, of Simsboro; step-son, Glenn Broughton and step-grandson, Alex, of Bedford, Texas; brothers, Robin Rockett and wife Sandra, of Dyersburg, TN, and Brian Rockett, of Ruston; nieces, Randa and Holly Rockett, of TN; nephew, Russell Rockett and wife, Ginger, of TN; and several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Nurses Barbara, Kathy and Jennifer of Agape Hospice of Ruston provided many hours of loving care for Galen during his lengthy battle with cancer.
Pallbearers were Jim King, Dickie Crawford, John Price, Gary Stokley, Wayne Brooks, and Rick Emerson.
Honorary pallbearers were Mickey Murphy, Jim Spaulding and Dan Erickson.

Charles Edward Turner
Friday, September 17, 1926 - Tuesday, March 04, 2008
Charles Edward Turner, 81, of Fairfield Bay, formerly of Glen Ellyn, IL, passed away Tuesday, March 4, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock.
Born September 17, 1926, to the late George and Nadine (Scurrah) Turner, he was a member of the Fairfield Bay Methodist, the VFW, Treasurer of the Fairfield Bay Rotary Club, an avid Golfer and member of the Fairfield Bay Country Club, a wonderful father, and beloved friend.
Survivors include four daughters; Christine Sullivan (John), Sue Huyser (Phillip), Wendy Golec (Ken), and Melissa Worthing (Mike), ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Janice (Christianson) Turner.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 7 at 2:pm at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton.

Edith Mae Shanstrom-Beatty
Sunday, March 04, 1917 - Wednesday, February 20, 2008
Edith Mae Shanstrom-Beatty, 90, passed away at 1:00 a.m., February 20 in Waconia, Minnesota after complications from Pneumonia-respiratory flu. She was born March 4, 1917 at St. Mary's Hospital to Harvey and Pearl Shanstrom.
She married John Brooks Beatty August 1, 1943, who proceeded her in death February 14, 2000.
During World War II she was a red cross volunteer, and helped her parents and Grandfather run Opp's Barber and Beauty Supply, a company her grandfather had founded.
Her sister Helen passed away in March with strokes and her brother Harvey M. Shanstrom died June 15, 1987 from a heart attack.
As a young girl, she also did some work for a newspaper and was very active in Eastern Star.
She and Brooks raised their children in Des Moines, Iowa, 3 years in Ames, Iowa.
Edith worked for the Register and Tribune paper during the 60's and 70's, winning recognition for her attendance.
Faithful to Grace Methodist Church, they retired to Fairfield Bay with other couples from the church in 1979.
They were both active in the Methodist church in the Bay, DAR, Lions and Audubon, just to name a few.
She and Brooks loved to square, and made the rounds to drive and visit their children all summer.
They were fortunate to travel to many countries-Peru, Venezuela, Russia, France, Japan, China, Ireland and Germany to name a few.
She continued her sewing, quilting (also teaching it), built doll houses, toll painted and loved to SHOP, COLLECT and GARDEN!
Active until she entered a nursing home 5 years ago, first partial, then full care near her son Jon, in Minnesota, she leaves behind: 5 children, Becky Sue Cordova, White Rock, New Mexico; Pearl Ann Siroospour-Confer, Colorado; Jon Patrick Beatty-Minnetonka, Minnesota; David Brooks Beatty-Chicago, IL; Harvey George Beatty-Dallas, TX; 10 grandchildren and 3, soon to be 4, great-grandsons.
Willing her body to the University Medical School in Minnesota, when her ashes return there will be a private memorial with her children.

Ruby Jane Carter
Friday, March 24, 1916 - Tuesday, February 19, 2008
Ruby Jane Carter, 91, died February 19, 2008 at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis.
She was born March 24, 1916, in Tennessee, the daughter of Bertha and Robert Stanfill. She retired from Southwest Bank in St. Louis, relocated to Fairfield Bay, AR, and again to Punta Gorda, FL, before finally returning to St. Louis 3 years ago. She was a lifelong member of the General Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter; William Hoyt Crawford of Fairfield Bay, AR, Wendall Forrest Crawford of South Haven, MS and Sandra Stinnett (caregiver) of St. Louis, MO; seven grandchildren, Mike Crawford of Coldwater, MS, Stacy (Dan) Wegmann of Crystal City, MO, Ana (Jim) Coplin of Lake Ozark, MO, Brandon Crawford of Iraq, Tony (Dorenda) Crawford of Lakeland, TN and Jessica (Kyle) Gahagan of Jacksonville, FL; six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her second husband, James Carter; her first husband, William Crawford; her sister Ruth Smith and her parents.

Thomas Lee Armstrong 29 of Shirley, Arkansas died Tuesday February 5, 2008. He was born September 17, 1978 in Bossier City, Louisiana to Lee and Kathleen Armstrong.
He was a welder at the River Trail Boat Factory in Clinton. He is survived by his daughter, Layla Armstrong of Shirley and his grandmother, Eileen Lorey of Clinton.Memorial services will be 1 p.m.Wednesday

Tonia Lynn Selken

Tonia Lynn Selken 37 of Shirley died Tuesday February 5, 2008. She was born July 26, 1970 in Clinton to Jerry and Judith Huggins Simpkins. She was a Rural Letter Carrier and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond Paul Selken, two sons, Andy and Donovan Selken, two daughters, Corina and Ellise Selken of Shirley, Her parents, Jerry and Judy Simpkins, grandmother, Merle Huggins of Shirley, two sisters, Marlana Dollar of Maumelle and Carmon Lagunes of Shirley.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Clinton, with burial in Eglantine cemetery with Bro. Alan Rolen officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Terry and Sammy Hoyle, Dustin Cooley, Travis Simpkins, Leland Huggins and Cody Overturff. James Dale Simpkins and Mames Goodnight Alternates.

Dr. Sophia P. McCay

Dr. Sophia P. McCay, MD, died after a brief illness on Jan. 1, 2008.
She was born 84 years ago in Budapest, Hungary to Geza Gabor Pinter and Otillia Pikler Pinter.
She is survived by her children, Rick McCay and wife Diane of Mt. Grove, Mo. And Cecelia McCay Killough and husband Kyle, of Wynne, AR.
She had 5 loving grandsons, Jonathan, Ryan and Richard of Mt. Grove, Mo., and Ian and Oliver Killough of Wynne.
Sophia moved to the United States during World War 2, obtained her medical degree from the University of Colorado and practiced psychiatry at a variety of settings during her life.
Remember her love of others by donating to her favorite cause, Heifer Project International.

Dorothy (Dottie) Posten Gallagher
Sunday, July 25, 1915 - Monday, December 31, 2007
Dorothy (Dottie) Posten Gallangher age 92, formerly a resident of Fairfield Bay, AR, died December 31, 2007 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dorothy was born July 25, 1915 in Gravity, IA to Stella and Oliver Posten. She was a graduate of Drake University where she majored in music. While attending Drake, she sang in a trio performing on the WHO Saturday Night Barn Dance. She also formed and sang in a Barbershop quartet called The Chord Queens. Music was her passion and she was instrumental in the establishment of the bell choir at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Des Moines. She was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority.
Dorothy married Leonard W. Gallagher in 1935. They both were active in Drake Relays, as Leonard and his brother Roland both ran track for Drake University. In 1978 Len and Dorothy retired to Fairfield Bay, where she played flute in the Fairfield Bay Trio, was active in Ladies Golf, Questers, and was minister of music at the Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church, she was also a member of PEO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and in 1987 her husband, Leonard.
Survivors include her son, Jeff (Jane) Gallagher, Des Moines, IA, and daughter Debby (Denny) Battrick of Folsom, CA. Also included are four grandchildren: Kathleen Gallagher, Chicago, IL, Jeff (Trisha) Battrick, Scott (Krista) Battrick, Bothell, WA and Jason Battrick, Snohomish, WA; six great-grandchildren; Brianna, Tyler, Ashley, Hanna, Kayleigh, and Taylor Battrick of Bothell, WA. Additional survivors include her Sister-in-Law, Evelyn (Roland) Gallagher, Des Moines, IA, and neice Melinda Neumann, Des Moines and nephew, Tim Hallagher, Littleton, CO.
A family service will be held at Resthaven cemetery on January 18, 2008. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name for Alzheimer's Association of Iowa. We would also like to thank all of the staff t Trinity Center at Luther Park for the excellent cre, help and support that was given to Dorothy.

Peggy Stratton

Peggy Joyce Stratton, 85, of Fairfield Bay, AR died Friday, October 17, 2008.
She was born May 11, 1923 in Boyce, LA, to Henry D. Tores and Elsie Beatrice Barker Tores.
Peggy was Deputy County Clerk in Lewisville, AR, clerk at GAB Business Services Inc. in El Dorado, and a clerk at Thompson Holloway Agency.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, Charles Ralph Stratton and her son, Charles Ralph Stratton, Jr.
Survivors include three sons, Walter Neil Stratton of Houston, TX, Richard Dennis Stratton of Fairfield Bay, AR, Denzil Tores Stratton of Hot Springs, AR, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 20, 2008, in Young's Chapel with Rev. LaVonne Post officiating.
Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
Visitation will be held 6-8pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice.

Patrick Henry Hermesmyer
Sunday, May 29, 1927 - Thursday, October 02, 2008

Patrick Henry Hermesmeyer, 81, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Thursday,
October 2, 2008, at the Ozark Health Medical Center in Clinton, Arkansas. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on May 29, 1927, he was the son of the late Matthew Henry and Winnifred (Morgan)Hermesmeyer.
Mr. Hermesmeyer was a retired plant engineer for Kraft Dairy Group.
He was a former resident of Memphis, Tennessee, and had lived in Fairfield Bay for twenty years where he was a member of the Fairfield Bay Lions Club, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Hermesmeyer was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, on February 6, 2000.
He is survived by two sons, Matthew P. Hermesmeyer and wife, Susan, of Brighton, Michigan,
and Michael D. Hermesmeyer and wife, Lisa, of St. Clair, Michigan; one daughter, Katherine R. Ashford and husband, James, of Ferndale, Michigan; and seven grandchildren, Rachel Hermesmeyer, Jaclyn Hermesmeyer, Jennifer Ashford,
Matthew James Ashford, Eva Marie Hermesmeyer, Anna Morris Hermesmeyer, and Patrick Morris Hermesmeyer.
Mr. Hermesmeyer is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
A rosary will be held Sunday, Oct. 5, at 6:00 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Funeral Mass will be held Monday, Oct. 6, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Elser officiating.
Interment will be at Woodland Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

Duane Boelter
Tuesday, March 30, 1926 - Sunday, September 28, 2008
Duane 'Dewey' Boelter, 82, passed away on September 28, 2008 in Des. Moines, Iowa. Memorial services will be held on Oct. 30 at noon, Park Ave. Methodist Church (3400 Park Ave.) in Minneapolis, MN. Burial will follow at 2:00, Ft. Snelling Nat'l cemetery.
Dewey was born March 30, 1926 in Fountain, Minnesota. Dewey was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a teacher for several years and retired from the City of Minneapolis as a City Planner. Dewey and his wife Bobbie lived in Fairfield Bay for many years before moving to Des. Moines.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Roberta (Bobbie) Boelter; parents, Frank and Erna Boelter and his brother Harland.
Dewey is survived by his stepson Larry (Jacqueline) Long; stepdaughters Linda (Ron Soderholm) Long and Chris (Tim) Maloney; brother John (Delores Johnson) Boelter; sister Elaine Rogers; grandchildren Jacob Long, Lura Long and Alana Wynne; many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills Church, Fairfield Bay or the American Heart Association.

Robert Winesburg
Tuesday, September 20, 1921 - Saturday, September 20, 2008
Robert (Bob) Winesburg, 87, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, was born to life in Madison, S.D., and born to eternal life on Sept. 20, 2008. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 56 years, Lenore (Denning) Winesburg, one daughter, Tanya (John) LaCosse, one granddaughter, Meghan (Erik) Zentz, brother-in-law, Edward (Syl) Denning, Fred (Margaret) Meyer, one sister-in-law, Juanita Winesburg, nieces, nephews and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn W. and Gladys (Paige) Winesburg, his brother, Remer, & nephew, Bruce Winesburg. His early years were spent in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, where he attended Bethel Academy and LaCrosse Central He was employed as a car salesman in LaCrosse and in Milwaukee prior to owning and operating Milwaukee Auto Brokers, a wholesale auto business. In his younger days, Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman and a devoted Green Bay Packer fan. Now his pains are gone, may he rest in peace on that bench where his buddy, Dick Dietrich is waiting for him. Memorials May be made to F & B Animal Protection League. Cremation arrangements are by Roller McNutt Funeral Home of Clinton, Arkansas.
